Problem opening Logic projects

I've just done a fresh install and I'm no longer able to open projects with Logic Express 8. If I click File > Open... > Logic > (Example) > ... The project is greyed out, yet I can open them from Finder with no problems at all.
Does anybody know what may be causing this and how I can resolve it? It's not too worrying, but is quite a pain! Logic Express seems to become more inconvenient each time I do a fresh install of everything - I'm no longer able to access Nexus2 from Media > Library either...

If you open the project from Finder, then do a Save-As to a new project name, can you then open it in LE8? If this works, rename the Logic folder to something like LogicOld, then create a new Logic folder. Open each project from finder, then save as each project to a new project in the new Logic folder. When you are happy, delete the old folder (or back it up just in case). Does anyone else have a problem with this suggestion? It should work, don't you think?

  • Corrupt audio file prevents me from opening Logic project file

    Hello,
I've been running Logic 8 for a couple years off my MacBook and have never encountered any significant problems of file corruption until recently.
The issue I encountered is this:
I've been producing a lengthy track in an on-going Logic project file for some time and after completing a recording session I saved and started deleting excess track copies to clean up my arrange window. Upon doing so Logic unexpectedly crashed.
After attempting to reopen the project file, it started its normal process of loading its respective audio files, but now it hangs on one particular audio file indefinitely (I'll refer to it as 'audio file x' for ease of reference), freezing and crashing Logic as a result. All of this project file's auto backup files are also incapable of being opened without giving me the same result and crashing Logic.
I have no way of opening this project file and getting at my most recent saved sequence!
I've tried removing this corrupt 'audio file x' from the project's audio folder and dragging it to the desktop, but this had no effect and I still can't open any recent version of the project file.
Older saved copies of the current project file do still open though (most likely because they were saved prior to the corruption caused by this suspect 'audio file x.') When opening an earlier iteration of the project, I get a message '1 invalid audio region found' (I assume referring to the corrupt suspect 'audio file x' that I removed to the desktop) but the project file is still able to open.
I realize I could import the audio files from the most recent version of the crashed file to an older project version and reconstruct things back to the way they were, but it would take me a lot of time and I'm hoping there may be some way to recover the un-openable project file by getting it to stop looking for this corrupted 'audio file x' on startup.
When I click 'show package contents' of the Logic Project file, I notice two items labeled 'displayState' and 'documentData.' From my troubleshooting I've come to the basic understanding that the 'documentData' file contains all the sequence data and settings for its respective Logic Project file.
I think the 'document data' of the unopenable project file in question may be corrupt because whenever I replace it with the 'document data' from an earlier Project file version, the file is able to open. This doesn't do me much good though, because it's document data from an earlier iteration of the project and I need to be able to get at the current sequence I had right before my file crashed.
Is there anyway to open a project file without letting it load its audio files? Or is there anyway I could get inside the 'document data' file to delete the reference/pathway in its audio bin to the corrupt 'audio file x' its hanging on?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping there's some way I won't have to repeat a couple days worth of work. Thanks for your help!

After further troubleshooting I've realized that the suspicious audio file that prevents the project file from opening is actually not corrupted itself. I can still play the audio file in other media software like Quicktime, etc. with no problem.
This leads me to believe the problem opening the project file lies solely with the corrupted 'documentData' file.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I could somehow open this project file and delete the reference of the troublesome audio file from the project's audio bin?
Well... it really sounds like the project itself is corrupted, that's one of the reasons all project files won't load from a certain point on.
    Try this.
    Reboot the Mac.
Open the Applications folder and boot Logic from it's icon.
As soon as the Logic Logo/graphic window appears on the screen hold down the control key. You will see a message pop up that says something like "Launch the Core Audio Driver" there will be yes/no choice available... select NO.
Go to the File menu and selct "open" go find your project file and see if it will open. If it does.. delete the audio file in question... however.. I would also look at any plugins you recently installed and are possibly using in this project...this sounds more like a plugin problem rather than an audio file problem, but that's just a gut feeling.
Anyway, if it opens delete whatever you suspect and save under a different name.
Reboot Logic and see if it can load the project.

  • Problem opening logic 9 in Mountain Lion

    Hi there
Just bought a new 13" Pro and wondered if anyone else has had problems opening Logic in Mountain Lion.
The whole of Logic Studio has been successfully moved across with Migration asssistant, except Logic Pro itself whichwon't open because:
'You can't use this version of the application "Logic Pro 9.0.0.app" with this version of OS X.'
Problem is when I I try to install the update 9.1.7 I get the message:
An eligible Logic Pro version was not found in the Applications folder. This update requires Logic Pro version 9.0 or higher.
I also get this message when trying to install the 9.1.7 update on my old MacBook Pro, which has the original version of Logic 9.
    Any suggestions?

  • Problem opening a project after is saved

    Hi guys;
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here.
I record all my tracks (drums, bass, a few guitar tracks, etc...)
Then I'm done and I save it to a folder in logic. Great.
But when i re-open the project, only the drum track is in the arrange window. I have to go and hunt down the other tracks and drag and drop them into the window and sync it up again.
    Clearly I'm missing something here.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
    Drew

    Hi Drew,
Go to 'Save As' in Logic and Tick Include 'Assets…'
Click on the 'Disclosure Triangle' below that and 'Tick Any Boxes' that are relevant to your Project.

  • Big problems opening a project

    Hi all,
I've been working on an iMovie project which is about 1 hour long. Everything was going fine until yesterday, when iMovie froze inexplicably (actually, just after I had readjusted the audio levels for a soundtrack), and I had to force quit and start again. Now the project is really slow to open (it takes 10-15 minutes just to open), and even after then, it's unusable because I have the spinning wheel displayed almost all of the time. To get the project to where it is I put in many hours of work and am reluctant to just start again so I'm wondering if there is some way to still salvage this project.
I can open other projects in iMovie without any problem by the way. Any suggestions what I can do?
    thanks,
    David

    Thanks John.
+1. Try making a copy of the project (using Finder, not in iMovie) and opening the copy. Low probability of working, but you never know.+
Yeah, I don't hold out too much hope of that working either but I'll give it a go.
+2. If you can get into the project, try exporting it as a full quality .dv file. That will take quite a while, and when you are done, all of your transitions, titles, etc. will be incorporated into a single file. You can then drop that file into the Media folder of a new iMovie project and finish editing. Your new iMovie will have only one, giant clip. You can search through it and split the clip at any point to do your editing. I have done this before, and it gets rid of all of the problems of the old file.+
That sounds like it might work, if only I can get the spinning wheel of death to stop turning long enough to execute the command.
I wonder if there is anything to be gained by opening the package itself, and trying to extract the raw media files...

  • Problem opening old projects

I just upgraded my Mac to Tiger and Final Cut Studio 5.1.2 from my 4.5. I keep trying to open a project in 4.5 and when I go to update the project to open it up. FCP Studio keeps crashing. I dont' want to lose my project and don't know what to do. Any help here?
    Victor

One method would be to export the project as an XML from FCP 4.5, then import that into 5.1.2 - another method might be to open the project up first in 5.0, then save it (to a new name), then open that project in 5.1.2
If you don't have those versions around (always back up your app before upgrading), you could zip the project up and email it to me and I'll try and upgrade it...

  • Problems Opening iMovie Project in Final Cut Pro

We created a 12 minute Video in iMovie for a client last year (basically starting Video editing as an experiment). However because they now want a multilingual DVD version we've decided to take the plunge and invest in FC Studio, thinking it will be able to open the project and allow us to add the additional audio tracks.
However, on opening the iMovie project in FCP, a lot of the clips along the timeline are missing, and the few clips that have transferred successfully seem to have spread themselves over 5 or 6 hours with huge gaps between them.
Are we doing something wrong? Final Cut Express seems to have a seamless upgrade path, does Final Cut Pro not have this ?
We don't really want to remake the whole video in FCP if there is a way of just importing the iMovie project.
iMac 20" G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Using latest FCP and iMovie

    Thanks everyone for your help.
I've just finished the project. As Steve mentioned I didn't actually need to add the audio tracks in FCP, in fact after adding them to Sound Track Pro and adjusting the volume I then realised they needed to be exported from there and added as separate tracks to DVD Pro. (everything has a timeline)
I used FCP to superimpose a new sequence and a logo to the top corner, I'm getting more comfortable with the programs now.
I think I've got my head around what application does what now, and have established a better work flow.
Once again thanks for your help.
PS. I get the feeling FCP is a slightly older program than iMovie or any of the other applications. The lack of live scrolling and audio wave forms (in the timeline) gives me that impression. But the whole FC studio an amazing piece of software, don't think I'll ever look back.

  • Problem opening Logic Pro

So I had been running Logic Pro completely fine for a few weeks but then I had my computer do a software update. After it had updated I tried opening Logic Pro and it asked for the serial number again. I entered it and it said it is invalid. Any help?

If it's a legit copy, I would contact Apple and find a solution that way.

  • Can't open Logic projects

    Hi,
I've just installed Logic Studio but it has a big flaw which is really slowing my work down. Whenever I save a project it creates a folder named e.g "testsong.logic". In this folder are two files - one quite small and one a couple of mb. When I go to file>open in Logic I can't open this file! It means the only way I can open things is by using the "open recent" function. I think that this .logic file shouldn't be a folder but should be a Logic file that I can double click to open. Can anyone tell me how to change the folder to the proper format?
    Thanks
    Jack

Ok, either my question was too long or nobody seems to have an answer. Sad, either way
Here's something I found out in the meantime, maybe this is interesting for somebody or maybe - problem's not totally solved - enough info for any of you to give me further advice.
When I start Logic Core Audio driver de-activated, I can open old songs. Then I save them in a new folder with all audio files and a new name. And I remove all EXS24 instruments as well as the Space Designer. I quit Logic, re-open with Core Audio activated and I can open the song.
Problem no.1: EXS24 instruments don't find the appropriate samples, but EXSMananger Pro did help me with this. Same problem with Space Designer, which doesn't find the impulse responses, connected to a certain preset.
Two questions, every idea would be great!
    - Is there any way to teach Space Designer Presets where to look for impulse respones. I can load IR samples directly and create a new preset, but I can't use my old ones.
    - Is it possible to install Logic from scratch over an existing version? Or how should I de-install everything connected with Logic and then install a fresh version from CD?
    Thank you again,
    Joern

  • Problem opening a project

    Hi!
Had this problem on a V6 system.
Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [..\..\Src\Clip\Clip.ccp-556], elements
The project could not be loaded, it may be
    damaged or obtain outdated
    Anyone with a solution?
    /Fredrik B

OK, but do you know why it says 'elements'? Was that part of the error line or did you add it?
Regardless, it sounds like you have a corrupt project and going back to the autosave is the right thing to do. Hopefully that doesn't set you back to far. Once you get the project to open successfully, you should probably save as with a new name/location. Or if your timeline isn't too complex you could maybe have success copying all of the assets from your timeline into the timeline of a whole new project. Also, you could try importing the project from a new one. If you ever move to CC you will also have options to import sequences and assets from other project using the media browser. However you do it, the idea is to get the project to pen again and then save it in a steer where it's free of whatever has been corrupting it. That may take some trial and error, since we don;t actually know what's corrupting it, so save backups often.

  • Problem open logic pro 7 songs made on other computer

i cant seem to load my iso that i have made on another logic - same spec logic etc..
this comes up - Damaged Song or not a Logic Pro Song! Search for fragments?
then when i click search, its aborts.
Anyone know why this problem is occuring?

thanks very much for helping me. the other computer is a new g5 desktop, with logic pro7 also installed on it.
i have made a track on the desktop in our studio, it includes samples that we have cut up, and plenty of midi controlling our outboard keyboard set up.
I just bought a new macbook the other day, installed logic. I then tried opening the logic file that i had made on the desktop. it comes up saying that the song is damaged etc. I then tried to put my autoload file that i have always used on logic, and it had the same problem, HOWEVER,for some reason this now works when i tried again.
So i am a little confused as to why i cant open the new tune. Other tunes seem to be opening, but they are from a long time ago. I need to work out why recent songs arent opening.
i will try re-saving the original song.. is there anything else that springs to mind that could be causing this?
    cheers,

  • Problem opening Robo Project

Hello, I am having trouble opening and XPJ file.  I get an error stating that Robo can't find a CPD file associated with the project.  I have several different projects, and this error occurs whenever I try an open any of them.  See attached for screen shot.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Brian

If R: is a network drive, this is likely to be your problem. There are many posts on the RH forums about RH not playing nicely in network locations. I don't believe this has changed for RH8. (Checking a project into source control that is located on a network drive is okay.)
So move your project to your local hard disk and see if that helps.

  • Problem opening other project

We had everything working and uploaded it to our server, which was fine, everything worked.  However the quiz was opening in a new window which we didnt want so we went back to the properties of the relevant button that launched the quiz and we saw that there is an option in the click box menu on the right which has CURRENT, NEW, PARENT and TOP.
The setting was NEW so we changed it to CURRENT to see what happened and it didnt work at all after uploading so we changed it back and now its not working whatever option we pick (we tried them all)?
Does anyone know what we have done wrong here or what we can possibly check?  Currently we are creating a new button to see if that makes any difference.
Using Captivate 4 and IE 6.0
    Thanks

Well I found out that the slides had all been
converted from captivate 3 project so i converted them again and replaced the existing files with the newly conv
erted ones and now everything seems to be working again.
Thus I assume it was a corruption of some sort?
