Problem opening mail attachments  after snow upgrade

Hi,
After upgrade to snow leopard , mails which are coming from unix servers are coming as Mail Attachments. If we want to open them we need to right click and choose the application to open.
Could you please suggest how to open directly.
For Example : We generate a excel report(abc.xls) from unix box and send to users. Before upgrade the mail will show that report as excel with name as abc.xls and we can open by clicking it.But after upgrade it is coming as MailAttachment(name of he file is not abc.xls but MailAttachment)and we are not able to open by clicking.

As an addendum, anyone with IMAP or Exchange accounts should be aware of what Apple says about reindexing by this method at:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/14019.html
Note the advice to remove account folders, and let Mail build new ones for IMAP accounts.
Ernie

    Hi Charlotte,
You don't say what your version of Windows you have. Assuming XP, go to Start | Run, type DXDIAG and click OK. Click the Sound tab and run the tests to eliminate a hardware problem first of all. If you don't hear anything, check your cables first of all. Also make sure "Mute" isn't checkmarked in your sound setup. You'll find that in Windows Control Panel.
Which browser do you use? If you have Firefox 4, sign up to the HTML5 trial @ http://www.youtube.com/html5
HTML5 is the latest video standard and doesn't require Flash player. Google is in the process of converting all its files to work with the new format. It may solve you problem. If you don't have Firefox 4, you can get it from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/
    IE8 doesn't support HTML5.
To clean out your temp files, go to Start | Run, type: CLEANMGR and click OK. Click OK again to start the utility. Tick all the boxes except "Compress old files" because the latter takes too long, and then click OK. You can run this utility any time you wish by the way.
The above steps will hopefully fix your problem. If not, post here again please.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * click the padlock or globe icon in the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

I cannot open mail attachments on my iPhone 4S.  I have reset 3 times and actually lost Bluetooth once, but at least that's back on now.

Try to set it up as new device, explained here:

First without using the backup, in case it contains corrupt data.
If it works after that, use the backup to restore from.

When I open BEx Analyzer after an upgrade to 3.5, I get a message:

Is this because it is the first time I am logging onto BEx after the upgrade or is this an issue? Thanks

    Niten,
As A.H.P suggested what version of BW did you upgrade from ? and what version of SAPGUI are you using - try and reinstall SAPGUI or install SAPGUI6.40 final.
Also please give your front end support pack levels. This could also be due to a front end SP issue.
Some other things that could help would be :
Were there any problems / issues when upgrading ?

  • Problems opening mail and address book after install

Ok I just reinstalled Leopard (erase and install after making backup with superduper).
When I open Mail I get the message:
+Mail can’t open because its index is read-only.+
+This file is located in Michael MBP:Users:Michael:Library:Mail:Envelope Index. If this file is on your computer, use the Get Info panel in the Finder to change your permissions for this file to “Read & Write.” If this file is located on a network server, contact the server administrator. After your permissions are changed, open Mail again.+
ok so when i go to that "envelope index" file it is about 6.3mb, when i check permissions, system and everyone are already read & write, there is also an (unknown) option that says read only but won't let me change it. if i move the "envelope index" file to the desktop and try to open mail, it creates a new envelope index file, but one that is way smaller, like 220k, and then nothing happens at all, mail just sits there, and i have to force quit it.
also when i try to open address book, it bounces on the dock for a second, then closes.
please help! i have to install on 2 more macs still

I've had the same problem. There are usually two or three envelope index files (envelope index; envelope index-1; envelope index-2, etc.). Envelope index-1 is always the one that has me, as the user, as read/write. I trash the other files and open Mail again. It then tells me that it has to import mailbox and that usually takes two to three minutes. Sometimes it then opens, but often it will say headers are damaged and to quit and re-open. It imports the mailbox again and stays open until I have to close or restart and then we start the process all over again. I've tried repair permissions, but no help. Very annoying.

  • Mail sick after Leopard upgrade

    Hi everyone
I originally added my comments to another thread, but that person's problem has been solved, while mine has not, so I had better post separately.
I had no problems with Mail before I upgraded to Leopard. After I upgraded, Mail wouldn't boot. That turned out to be due to an older copy of Mail still being on my disk, and the Dock and Login Items calling it instead. Deleting the old copy and opening the new copy, so it could run its Leopard setup, fixed that problem. After that, Mail would boot.
However, I was unable to download any mail from my POP server. It worked fine before the upgrade, but wouldn't work after the upgrade. Similar to the other thread, the Activity window would say that messages were being downloaded (and SpamSieve would log them), but they would not appear in my Inbox. Strangely, mailing-list messages etc. filtered to other mailboxes would appear in those other mailboxes.
I have quite a few extra mailboxes. The Leopard upgrade has rearranged them. They used to be listed under the Inbox and Smart Mailboxes (I installed MailTags once, but had problems with it, so I uninstalled it, but the Smart Mailboxes I created remain). The whole hierarchy, from the top of the sidebar, was called "On My Mac".
After the Leopard upgrade, "On My Mac" no longer represents all my mailboxes. It has been shifted down the sidebar, and now only contains my extra mailboxes (mailing lists etc.). My Inbox, Sent, Trash, Junk and Smart Mailboxes are now separate categories to On My Mac, and listed above it. I have no idea if this is relevant or not, but I mention it in case.
Following a suggestion on this forum, I tried rebuilding my Inbox. Mail crashed. It crashes every time I try to Rebuild my Inbox. (Crash log: http://www.riverland.net.au/~clytie/Mail_rebuild.txt).
After my attempted Rebuild, my Inbox was empty. All my previous messages had disappeared. There are plenty of emix files in my ~/Library/Mail POP account folder, but oddly, they are very old, many from previous years. Yet I only keep a couple of months' emails in my Inbox! None of these recent mails remain.
I have turned off Time Machine, so I won't overwrite my previous backup. (I don't know enough about Time Machine's bevaviour yet to take any chances.) My previous backup shows emix files up to the day I upgraded to Leopard, but double-clicking on them only shows a title and an empty window. (This may be because they are on a separate disk to the Mail app.: I don't know.)
I noticed that the Activity window would get stuck downloading specific mails, so I got onto my ISP's Webmail, and deleted as many mails as I could (some mailing list mails, spam etc.). Rebooting Mail after that, I could download a few mails, but again the Activity window would show Mail stuck on another message (usually in the 50s or 60s: "downloading 52 of 694"). If I delete that message in my Webmail, Mail will get stuck on another message next time I Check Mail. (I tell the Activity window to Stop, and it says it is Stopping, but never finishes. I have to Force Quit to stop it. Is mdworker related to Mail?)
I don't know if these "blocking" messages have anything particular in common. My prefs on my MacBook or my ISP don't exclude messages on the basis of size, format or attachments.
I use SpamSieve, GrowlMail and PGPMail. SpamSieve appears to be working: it logs each message received, even though they don't appear in my Inbox. However, SpamSieve's Growl notifications don't appear. I am unsure if Growl is working with Mail, although it still shows up in the Mail prefs: it is working with Speed Download. PGPMail still shows up in the Prefs and menus, but not in the message windows.
I hope this information is useful. I don't know what to do from here. Thankyou for any help you can offer.

My question hasn't been answered here, but I seem to have found the answer myself, eventually.
I decided to move the GrowlMail and PGPMail mailbundles to the Bundles Disabled folder, plus delete my two remaining MailTags smart mailboxes from when I had MailTags installed, then restart.
Lo and behold, as my old Grannie always said, I could successfully rebuild my Inbox. All my much-regretted previous emails appeared again! It was an emotional reunion.
Then I tried checking mail, and LaB again, several days of mail came pouring in.
Evidently something to do with the mailbundles or old smart mailboxes was getting in the way of Mail function.
I'll try reintroducing each mailbundle. I hope nobody else has this problem, but just in case, I thought I'd better leave my belated solution.

  • Mac Newbie - Problem opening Mail, says home directory is full

I am new to Mac so forgive my ingnorance. I have been using Mail with no problems but just now (and each successive time despite restarts), when I open Mail a box pops up that says
"Mail cannot update your mailboxes because your home directory is full. You must free up space in your home folder before using Mail. Delete unneeded documents or move documents to another volume."
    I appreciate any help.
    G-Mc

    Try the following.
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Envelope Index. Delete the Envelope Index file and empty the Trash.
Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Launch Mail and you will be prompted to import all mailboxes located in the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail.
Select OK and allow the import process to complete. This process isn't really importing anything but replacing the deleted Envelope Index file and re-indexing all mailboxes.
If this resolves the problem and after confirming all mailboxes and messages are available, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder placed on the Desktop.

  • Video files won't open on iPhotos after library upgrade

I tried accessing my iPhoto library today on my iMac, and received this message "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto".  I selected the "Upgrade" version accordingly.  At the same time, I also did an update on iphoto to version 9.5.1.
After these upgrades were completed, I attempted to access my albums in iphoto.  Everything looked fine, except that I can no longer view any videos!  When I try to view a video, this error message appears: "A necessary data reference could not be resolved" and the screen is just blank.  What do I do? This is really upsetting because I have videos of events and people important to me who have passed away

Hi Terence, thank you for your response.  The problem is that when I go back to Time Machine, I am unable to even restore to an earlier version.
When I attempt to open my video files and receive the error message "A necessary data reference could not be resolved", I went to "File" - "Reveal in Finder" - "Original File", but then received the message "QuickTime Player can't open "IMG_1929.MOV".
Is this a virus or bug that subsequent updates will fix, or are my videos lost forever?
    Thank you.

  • Mac -mail crashing after Maverick upgrade

Each time I open mail and click on a message, the mail app crashes. I just updated to Mavericks- I am on an iMac --

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock all your user files, reset their ownership, and remove their access-control lists. If you've set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Back up all data.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Problems with loading mailbox after GW8 upgrade

I just recently upgraded to Groupwise 8 in a school district. I support many school districts and this is the first time I've had this problem. Users are complaining that from outside the network(home access) that when they log in to web acc, the mailbox will just hang at "Loading...."
The toolbars, menus, and folder list all display properly, but it hangs trying to load the message list for the mailbox. It works fine when on the internal LAN, only happens from home. And the problem is not constant - sometimes it will work, sometimes it will not. I've had users complain about the issue from the entire spectrum of web browsers, from IE 6,7,8 to Safari and Firefox. I've had users clear cache/temp internet files and still have the problem.
I do see a java error on the logger screen, I'm not sure if its related:

The only reference I could find to the above error on these forums(or anywhere for that matter) was in the following thread:
    http://forums.novell.com/novell-prod...unloading.html
Which doesn't describe the problem I am having....
Has anyone else seen this problem or have an idea what to check?
Thanks in advance for any help

  • HT4623 Default mail app crashes. I can't open mail attachments. How do I restore the mail app?

I updated my ipad3 to iOS 7 last month. First thing I noticed is I can't continuously open yahoo mail attachments in the form of PDFs like I used to do. Just recently I installed iOS 7.0.6 in the hope that it will resolve this issue. I also deleted the "attachments.me" app thinking this may solve the problem. But my problem worsened as I discovered that I cannot also open ".doc" or word files. I have tried restoring my ipad last night but an error occurred during installation.
I can open the .doc or PDF mail attachments from safari though.
    Any suggestions.

You need to download the Google Notifier and set it as the default email client. To restore the application, try running the applicable combo updater; if that doesn't work, you'll absolutely need the disks or a backup to get it back.
