Problem Opening Reader 8 in Browser

My problem is similar to kb401258, but not exactly. When I try to open a PDF in IE7 and Reader 8 is already running, the PDF opens correctly. If Reader 8 is not running, a popup displays:
"There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again."
I click OK and another popup displays with "Verifying... .pdf from (URL)" indicating that Reader 8 is trying to do something with the PDF file. Almost immediately a Windows XP error message pops up displaying:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
I used to have Acrobat 7.0, Bridge, and Creative Suite 2 installed, but removed them. It appears there are some residual folders that weren't cleaned up (naughty Adobe). Could this be part of my problem? I've cleaned up my registry.
If kb401258 applies to me, it tells me I need to create a new transform and re-deploy Acrobat or Adobe Reader by starting the Adobe Customization Wizard and open my previously created .mst file. It mistakenly assumes I know how to do that.
Can someone help me get rid of this annoying problem?
Thanks, Gary

I have the same problem as Gary. But only with Internet Explorer 7, with Firefox it works perfectly.
Could the last IE patch cause this problem ?
If someone could help us, any help is welcome !
Thanks, Eric

  • Cannot open emails in hotmail. Have no problem opening using I.E. browser

Did a cleanup of my system using ashampoo WinOptimiser 5, which made my computer work more efficiently. However, after opening the Firefox browser (with no problems), I then logged on to my hotmail account (again without any problems). But after opening my inbox, I found that I was unable to open individual mailings. I went through the above procedure, but this time usng the Internet Explorer browser and this time had no difficulties in accessing my emails. From this, my conclusion is that there is something that perhaps I need to do in the Firefox settings to to resolve this situation. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox, but this has made no difference.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove your live.com cookies (save any pending work first) using either of these:
    * While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

    Do you mean OpenBrowser behavior?
Can you post your URL, or code?
What is it you're trying to achieve?

  • Problem opening Form based PDF via Safari browser with Adobe Reader 9.3 on MAC

    Hi,
I'm mentioning below the problem that we are facing when we open a form based PDF created using a licensed version of Adobe Livecycle Designer ES (Version 8.2.1.4029.1.523496) on a MAC machine through a Safari Browser.
We tested this PDF form on a windows machine and the PDF opens in an IE browser via the latest Adobe reader 9.3 without any problem. I then received complaints by our clients that they were unable to open the same PDF on their Safari browser on a MAC machine, I tried to resolve the problem by downloading the latest version of Adobe Reader 9.3 for MAC but noticed that the Safari browser window would just keep refreshing the page without displaying the PDF at all. I then uninstalled the Adobe Reader 9.3 version and downloaded and installed an older version i.e., Abobe Reader 8.2 version for MAC and noticed that the PDF document successfully opened in the Safari browser. My question is why does a form based PDF work with an older version of Adobe Reader for MAC and not with the latest version? Our clients are not comfortable with the fact that we are refraining them from upgrading to the latest version of Adobe Reader for MAC and that they would have to downgrade their existing Adobe Reader 9.3 to a lower version Adobe Reader 8.2 in order for the PDF forms to work when it should be the other way around.
Is there any fix or a patch that is currently being worked on that would resolve this issue in the latest Adobe Reader for MAC? If yes then when would it be ready? This issue is quite critical for our business and would appreciate it if this would be looked into with high priority.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sheikh Huraiz Ahmed.

That suggestion makes sense and likely works, but only if the user is on a machine that will allow them to use Reader. I'm sending this out to a lot of teachers, who are using machines either at school, or are school-issued machines, and they don't have the admin privileges to install software-- even Reader.
so my problem is, if they are stuck on a machine without Reader, and without the possibility of having Reader... it's just not going to work because Preview can't handle these functions.
And, since that is not an acceptable answer with what I'm trying to do... I will find another way to create/submit forms. I think there are some online possibilities I will have to make work.
    very, very disappointing and frustrating.

See [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]]

  • When I open a second Firefox browser window, the URL address window, instead of showing the URL, says "Go to a Web Site;" also, and more importantly, the "back" button is greyed out. This is a new problem, and the first Firefox window I open works fine.

After I open the first Firefox browser window, any additional window I open does not open my homepage, but opens a blank page with "New Tab" showing on the tab. An orange "Firefox" tab with a drop down arrow shows at the upper left hand corner of the screen. All of the options (File, Edit, etc.) are greyed out, however they will work if you move your cursor over them.
The URL address window says "Go to a Web Site". After I've gone to a website, the back button remains greyed out and I am not able to go back to a previous page. My RoboForm and Netcraft toolbars only show up in an abbreviate form. The add-on bar doesn't show up at all.
Again, this is a recent problem, and only happens after I've opened one browser window (which works fine) and then open additional browser windows (as few as one additional).

I had this same problem. Seems to be caused by the web developer tool bar FF extension (this started happening after a recent update to that extension). After disabling it, my FF is back to normal :)

  • Adobe reader 9 will not open in a IE browser window in windows 7 and Server 2003

In short, I think their products do not work very well.  I'm not surprised Steve Jobs will not allow Flash on his products and I am not a Mac fan.  Every computer I've installed Reader 9 on has had problems opening a pdf in a browser window.  I've tried this on various versions of Windows with the same results.  To fix it I had to install Reader 8.  This is not a solution.

I've got the same problem. I'll look forward to solving this on this thread.
It really sucks- I have a ton of pdf files, and can't save them to Documents or send them out of the Adobe file.

  • Unable to open PDF file in browser using Reader 9 with IE8

I just updated to IE8 and when trying to open a PDF file on the browser, I received a message stating to use Adobe Reader 8 or 9.  I downloaded AR9 and still receive the same message and cannot open PDF files in browser window.  It defaults to my Adobe Acrobat 6.0 which will not open the file.  I have Windows XP.  I do not have a problem opening a PDF file in Yahoo mail with AR9.  I have tried many different ideas on the web to no avail.  Appreciate any help to be able to default to open PDF files in the browser using AR9 which is apparently required by IE8.

Fixed problem by taking to a computer store to find that my hard drive storage was maxed out.  I had the hard drive repaced with a larger amount of storage.   Problem resulted from inadequate amount of storage space which prevented me from downloading and installing Adobe Reader 9.
    Thanks to al that responded.

  • Acrobat Reader 9.1.2 opens endless number of browser windows

    Hi all,
after the update to Acrobat Reader 9.1.2 opening .fdf ends in an endless number of browser windows until Acrobat Reader gets killed or the browser crashes.
Testet with FF 3 and IE 6 on WinXP SP 3. Preference Setting "PDF in Browser anzeigen" (open pdf in browser) has no effect.
Any help or idea is welcome as this is causing serious problems for us.
    Regards,

    Hello again, Andreas:
I believe I have found the resolution to your browser plugin issue but I'm sure it will require administrative privledges and will require modifying the Windows registry (not something for the faint of heart). If you are interested, check out the knowledgebase article here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/328/328233.html
Something you may be able to try that doesn't require admin privledges:
    1. Open Reader
    2. Click Edit > Preferences
    3. Click Internet on the left menu
    4. Uncheck "Allow fast web view"
    Crosses fingers for you!

  • Problem opening PDF files for Adobe Reader

Problem opening PDF files for Adobe Reader.
I installed the latest adobe reader for my Mac. Everything is set up. Every time i go to open a pdf file, this shows up...
"Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch adobe reader and accept the End User Licence Agreement, then quit and relaunch the browser."
I installed it through the adobe reader website for free. And even though it says 'by clicking "install now" you are agreeing to accept the user licence agreement terms and conditions' it still says i need to accept the T&C's.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and same thing over and over again.
    Can someone help!?!?!

Did you actually try doing what the message suggests?  Open Adobe Reader and accept the EULA?

  • Problems Opening Adobe Reader

I run a Windows 7 with IE10 machine and have a serious problem using "Reader."  From a browser, I attempt to open a pdf file and all windows freeze and I have to go into Task Manager to close them. From the desktop, the Adobe window freezes and I get an error message stating, "Quitiing - Raise without Handler." I have uninstalled and resinstalled several times with the same result.

Are you having the same problem with Firefox or Chrome?  Can you open a PDF through stand-alone Adobe Reader?

I am having a problem opening pdf document.  I get error message: "Adobe Reader has stopped working" then I get Windows is looking on line for a solution, but then my document closes. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader XI, rebooted my computer but this did not help.  I get the same message. What to do?

Can you open Reader by itself?  If so, check if disabling Protected Mode improves the situation [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
