Problem outputting AVI video

I've had no problems outputting clips from FCP5 as AVI files before but suddenly when I try to export using QuickTime conversion to AVI my clips are only outputting as audio files – the video is missing! everything is rendered; what am I doing wrong? thanks. Ric

And is this now the case with every AVI you export or is it specific to particular source footage?
What happens if you create a new clean user account and test the Export Quicktime Conversion to AVI using that account?
You might want to take a moment to do some basic system maintenance too, just in case.

  • Problems with .avi videos on my iMac G5

I recently purchased QT Pro while on vacation while on my G4 iBook laptop. Everything worked fine with it and I was able to use it's editing and conversion features to make exported DivX .avi videos as well as .mov files which all play without any problem on my laptop. I also made an iMovie from several clips with graphics added. All the files, including some .avi stunt-kite flying videos that had been previously downloaded to my laptop played without any problems in QT on my iBook.
I returned home and copied the video files that I made with my Digital Camera along with the edited and converted files to my iMac G5 computer. I also entered my registration code for QT Pro to my G5 which was excepted, adding all the editing/exporting/saving features that QT Pro offers now to my iMac. The copied, original .avi files which were downloaded direct from my digital camera to my laptop...as well as the converted .mov files I made in QT Pro on my laptop all play fine in QT Pro on my iMac. So does a newly 'saved as' .avi file made on my iMac after installing QT Pro. I tested it with one of my original .avi files from my digital camera.
However, none of the .avi files that were previously saved on my iBook will play on my iMac. Neither will any of the previously downloaded .avi kite flying video files that were already on my iMac computer. Now.....all I get is a white screen in a new QT window when I try and play those videos. Those same files, all play without any problem in QT Pro on my iBook and those kite videos had played previously on my iMac without a problem.
I also have VLC Ver. 0.8.5 for Mac installed on both, the iBook and iMac. The .avi files mentioned play on my iMac through the VLC player but I can't understand why they wont play with my QT player just like they do on my iBook. I tried deleting the QT preference files on my iMac and tried replacing them with a copy of those preference files from my laptop but that didn't help.
Why wont these same .avi files play on my iMac?

Thanks for your help. I compared the two different computer files (HD/Library/QuickTime) and saw that I had the 'DivX 5.component' was in my laptop folder but not in my desktop folder. I also found that DivX had an updated version of their codec at http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/ and downloaded that version (DivX 6.5) and installed it. All my old and new '.avi' files are now playing without a problem on my desktop.
Thanks very much for your help. I had suspected that the DivX codec might be the issue but wasn't sure. I also saw some negative feedback on versiontracker.com, so I'll keep the older version, DivX 5 codec on my laptop (since it seems to be working fine) just in case I need to switch to the older version on my desktop!

  • Problem outputting HD video

I have a sequence that is set up as HD 1280x720. I have a clip that in MP4 format that is also HD with the same resolution. THis is the main part of the sequence. I am just using Final Cut Express to add titles and replace the sound.
When I export the sequence as HD with the same settings as a .mov file, I get a clip of the right physical dimensions, but the pixels seem to be twice the size - i.e. the pixel resolution has halved. The info on the output file still says 1280x720. Can anyone explain how I can retain the true resolution of my input clip?
    Any help appreciated!

Unable to create or open output file" ..... plus I cannot export to any uncompressed AVI format (it exports only sound... no video.. BUT I have no problem with Adobe After Effects! (i can even export into .mov with no problem except being unable to set sound quality (if i touch that setting, it crashes... but in AAE every setting of export works fine (either uncompressed or compressed... ) whats wrong with that premiere?? oh and cant forget to mention - in premiere the preview window just looks crap as well - and is freezin... please help guys...

  • Problem with .AVI file

The AVI file itself looks OK but when I bring it into FCP to do a little clean up work all fast movement is resulting in some terrible jagged edge/saw tooth effects. These are not present in the AVI file so I'm confused as to why they are appearing when placed in a FCP sequence? I have tried a de-interlace filter but the problem is still there. I need to get this onto DVD without the distortion.
    AVI properties:
    DivX 5.0, 704 x 528
    MPEG Layer 3, 25 FPS
    Here's an example frame:

This is probably just what FCP is displaying on your computer screen, not what it will look like when you're all done outputting to video. The problem is that your Canvas is not a full-size representation (pixel to pixel) of your video file and interlacing can cause this exact appearance. It's a moiré artifact more than a problem with interlacing. What does this look liek if you pipe it out to a video monitor? What happens if you blow up the Canvas to 400%?
You want to change the interlacing, not deinterlace.

  • Photoshop elements 9 not reproducing avi video in organizer

    Hello,
I have read different posts of people having problems to reproduce video media in PE organizer with different degrees of succes to solve it. In my case, I have just updated a computer to windows 7 - 64bit and after installing Photoshop Elements + Premiere Elements 9, I have discovered that avi videos cannot be reproduced in the Photoshop Elements Organizer anymore. These videos were reproduced with PE Organizer 8 under windows XP without problems (before the update) and they can now be reproduced perfectly well in the updated machine with Windos Media Player, Quicktime, VLC and even within Premiere Elements 9, but not in the Photoshop Elements Organizer. I have tried to install different codec packs, but nothing seems to work. What is more surprising is that those avi files can be reproduced within Premiere E. but not within the Phtoshop E. organizer.
If somebody can give a hint about a possible solution, it will be most appreciated.

  • Firewire Output for Video Preview Intermittent

I'm experiencing a frustrating problem with After Effects these days.
We're producing some video to be projected, so to see what the final output will really look like, I'm doing video previews using FireWire so output goes directly to the projector.
It's been working great up until yesterday.  Was working fine until I had to restart my Mac.  Upon reboot, my the projector no longer gets any video output.
I've tried restarting numerous times, checked all connections, etc.  Got it working again after several restarts, but after switching over to Photoshop momentarily, the video output once again disappeared.
Any suggestions on how to regain consistent Firewire output for Video Previews?
    My setup:
    After Effects CS6
    Mac Pro
    OSX Version 10.7.5
Firewire Output of my Mac's monitor is going to the Firewire Input on my Sony Media Converter
RCA Video out (Composite video) going to the projector's video input.
    After Effects Video Preview preferences:
    Output Device:  FireWire
    Output Mode: Apple FireWire NTSC

    Thanks for your reply, Rick.
I finally figured it out... I had a background application running called iCam that monitors my security cameras.  I had forgotten that it uses Firewire and was intermittently hogging the resources.  Once I quit that application, everything was good once again.
Thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated!

  • Problems outputing audio from FCP into a mini dv

    hi there
i'm trying to output a video with 2 diferrent audio channels into a minin dv through a camera. everything is fine during output but when i check the tape the audio skips and sometimes sounds a little bit squeaking. i exported everything as .mov and imported back into FCP. so im outputting everything already rendered.
does any one have an idea why this is happening?
    thank you.

Could definitely be a problem with the camera, but... the most obvious thing is that your output from fcp doesn't match the format on the camera. Make sure that both are set to 48k 16 bit and that your camera is recording SP.

  • Problem inserting Flash video into DW CS3 template

I would like to insert some flash video into an editable
region inside a DW CS3 template. The template I am using seems to
work for literally hundreds of other pages I have made (none of
which, incidentally, have any media of any kind in them).
I have created the template and then an editable region and
now want to insert the flash video in that editable region. All
goes well until I hit the OK button. then I get this error--Making
this change would require changing code that is locked by a
template or translator The change will be discarded.
Can anyone suggest how I might over come this error??
    Thx.
    Jane

The problem is the detection option in the video insertion
    dialog. If you
disable that option, you will not get the error.
This is a problem because the detection routine requires a
    modification to
the <body> tag (insertion of an onload event) which you
    cannot easily do in
    a template child page.
If you really must have the detection, then you can copy and
    past the load
call from a dummy (non-templated) page on which you have also
    done the same
insertion. Post back with that page's body tag code, and I'll
    show you
    how....

  • .AVI video not importing correctly. Imports as audio only.

    System: window vista 64 bit
Project type: whatever the standard new project is at the startup screen
Problem: I am importing .avi video files and they are importing as audio only. it will not allow me to drag them into the video slot on the timeframe, and it displays only the speaker symbol in the media management area. Here's the funny bit. I used these files previously in another session June-July 2009, and they worked fine then. I am lost and need assistance!(PLEASE!!)
    Stumped Like a Chump

If you look at the CODEC, it is Xvid, the opensource version of DivX, just as I suspected. These will almost never work in PrE. The best workflow is to go to before the Xvid compression (these are heavily compressed, loosing a ton of data and quality), or to convert them to DV-AVI Type II files with 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio. I use DigitalMedia Converter, but it is shareware. Many users sing the praises of the free Prism to do the conversions. I have never used it, but many here have, and give it very high marks.
Note: no conversion program can ever reclaim that lost data and quality. It is lost and gone forever. That is why my first option was to go back to before that compression was applied. However, conversion will yield files that can be edited with both Video and Audio.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] not sure why/how they were working before. Usually, with either the Xvid, or DivX CODEC's, one will get a Cannot Import error, or will get either Audio, or Video only. I have never been able to edit any Xvid, or DivX files, in either PrE, or PrPro - never even once. I just convert, if the client cannot get original source files, and I even have a quality loss diagram to show them how the footage will look - not very good, IMHO. I make them sign-off on that quality loss, before I start.

  • How to import two AVI video files & convert to one FLV ?

    Status:
    - Newbie using PC & Flash CS3 ver9l
    - I can import a single AVI video file and convert it to an FLV video.
    Problem:
    - I have two AVI video files... one 4GB (20 minute) long and one 2GB (10 minute) long... and want to combine them to have a single 30 minute long FLV video file.
    Question:
    - Can I do this in Flash? When I "convert" a single AVI video to a FLV using the File, Import method... I can't really see the video on the Flash time line. I'm a newbie so I'm probably doing something wrong.
    - I tried doing a File, Import for file-1.avi and then doing it for file-2.avi... but the two were on top of each other... and not end to end.
Maybe some kind sould will walk me through this.
    Thanks for any help.

Your not going to be able to combine two videos as one in flash, if your using Win try Win Movie Maker, I believe you can drag both into a WMVM timeline and can then save as one file, then you can use AVC video converter or the like to encode them into an .flv or.f4v file.

  • Problems importing AVI with DV codec to Premiere Pro

Problems importing AVI with DV codec to Premiere Pro  (720x564 px, 32 kHz stereo, 24.4 bitrate)
I can't import that video. What can I do?

    Svanur,
I agree with Harm. The specs. do not match up correctly. Where did those AVI files come from?
I assume that you are working in PAL-land (and not NTSC-land). Is that correct?
What platform are you working on, Mac, or PC?
When you attempt to Import those AVI files, what is the exact error message that you are getting?
    Good luck,

  • Avi videos in elements 10

How to make avi videos in elements 10?

    Nonalisa972
Thank you for the critical information that you gave in your last post number 3.
You did not say that you were working on with Premiere Elements 10 on a Mac computer.
Neither Premiere Elements 10 Mac nor iMovie support an .avi export.
If you want an .avi file, you are going to have to export your Timeline to as .mov or .mp4 and then
convert that to an .avi export in a 3rd party software.
For Premiere Elements 10 Mac...for .mov, see Share/Computer/QuickTime and appropriate Preset and Advanced Settings.
Or, for mp4, see Share/Computer/AVCHD and appropriate MP4 preset. Setting help is available if you ask but give details.
The following link is being provided for informational (non promotional) reasons only to start you on the issues of
    .avi files in Mac.

There are many other such links online. This not a matter of like or dislike. It is a matter of format support or non support.
Please let us know if you are OK with the basic problems involved.
For the quickest and best advice, please give full detail at the onset.

    JDunlop,
thanks for your quick reply to my java.sun.com forum posting! i just got back from vacation, so i didn't get a chance to try your method til now. i pulled your email address off the website to update you on my problem playing an avi file in JMStudio (JMF).
as per your instructions, i downloaded the divx player at www.divx.com and tried to play the avi file. this is the error the divx player gives:
    Divx Player 2.1
The file contains unknown video data
The file contains the following type of data:
    Video data: FOURCC code "MP42"
You may need to install a new video codec on your computer to watch this video
    Some quick questions:
    1. Where could I find the "MP42" codec to play my avi file in JMStudio (JMF)? Does java.sun.com have video codecs?
    2. You mentioned in your posting "If you don't have the one that was used in the encoding, your out of luck." Does this mean that I need to know how the avi file was originally coded and have the original codec to decode (play) it?
    Thanks,
    lac410
P.S. If you need more Duke Dollars for your help, I'd be happy to award them to you.
Re: Please help: Why JMF does't play .avi video clip?

sounds to me like you are missing a video codecs. If you don't have the one that was used in the encoding, your out of luck. Download the player from divx.com, it will tell you which codecs the video needs (if it won't play). You can then search the net for that particular codecs.

  • How to watch .avi video in iphone?

Hi I use win Vista and I just bought a new iphone. Everything works well. Only one question is : how to watch .avi video in iphone. I download a lot of video in that format but cannot add them into intunes, therefore cannot sync into iphone. I search the web and know the problem is quickplayer doesn't support this video format. Is there any solution to tranform .avi video format to any format which quickplayer support?
Another question is : I bought some TV show DVD ( like Grey's anatomy, House, etc.) How can I sync those films into itunes then sync into my iphone, so I can enjoy it at lunch time at work.
Thanks for you help in advance.

The iPhone cannot play AVI videos. You'll need to convert them before you can load and play them on your iPhone. If you search the Using iTunes for Windows forum for "video convert", you'll find a lot of threads on this subject already.
I bought some TV show DVD ( like Grey's anatomy, House, etc.)
Sorry, but DVDs are copy-protected and cannot legally be converted. It's a violation of the Discussions terms of use to talk about such ripping.
