Problem parsing with SAX2

Hi all,
I am new to SAX2 Parsing and I'm having trouble getting my application to parse an xml. My code looks something like this:
XMLReader xr = XMLReaderFactory.createXMLReader("org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser");
ContentHandler contentHandler = new DefaultHandler();
ErrorHandler errorHandler = new DefaultHandler();
xr.setContentHandler(contentHandler);
xr.setErrorHandler(errorHandler);
System.out.println("about to parse");
xr.parse(new InputSource(template));
System.out.println("done parsing");
I have implemented the startDocument, startElement, etc methods, but I'm not sure if its getting into those methods, I have System.outs in them and they are not being written to the console, but I don't see any exceptions being thrown by the parse method, I get to the last line in the code, where I print out "done parsing", any ideas what's going on? thanks in advance

ContentHandler contentHandler = new DefaultHandler();
xr.setContentHandler(contentHandler);You're creating a new DefaultHandler() to recieve the parser events, not whatever object you've implemented the ContentHandler methods in yourself.

  • Can't use DTD without a "file:" while parsing with SAX2 parser

    Hello,
    I'm using JDK 1.4 with JAXP parser.
    I'm trying to parse an xml document that use a dtd.
    The DTD is in same dir as the xml file.
    If i use a "file:./" before mydtd.dtd like this :
    <!DOCTYPE doc SYSTEM "file:./mydtd.dtd">
    It is working fine, but if i declare it as
    <!DOCTYPE doc SYSTEM "mydtd.dtd">
    I've got a parsing SAX exception saying
    Relative URI "mydtd.dtd" can't be resolved without an URI of document. (translated)
    How to fix that ?

    I think your problem would be solved by using InputSource class. Use the setSystemId method. The relative URI will be resolved relative to the path you provide in this method.

  • Problems parsing & with SAX

    Hello all,
    I'm new to SAX and facing quite odd problem with it while parsing data.
    If the data to be parsed has &amps, SAX cuts out everything before it. For example;
    <url>www.foobar.com?something=123&blaa=456</url>
    This will return:
    blaa=456
    Any ideas what's wrong or should I post some sample code ?

    You didn't post the code that has this problem, but I think I know what is happening.
    You are probably assuming that the characters() method will always return you the entire text node all at once. This is not the case. You should write code like this:
    1. startElement: create a new StringBuffer.
    2. characters: append the data to that StringBuffer.
    3. endElement: now you have all the data in the StringBuffer and you can use it.

  • Problem parsing XML with schema when extracted from a jar file

    I am having a problem parsing XML with a schema, both of which are extracted from a jar file. I am using using ZipFile to get InputStream objects for the appropriate ZipEntry objects in the jar file. My XML is encrypted so I decrypt it to a temporary file. I am then attempting to parse the temporary file with the schema using DocumentBuilder.parse.
    I get the following exception:
    org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: cvc-elt.1: Cannot find the declaration of element '<root element name>'
    This was all working OK before I jarred everything (i.e. when I was using standalone files, rather than InputStreams retrieved from a jar).
    I have output the retrieved XML to a file and compared it with my original source and they are identical.
    I am baffled because the nature of the exception suggests that the schema has been read and parsed correctly but the XML file is not parsing against the schema.
    Any suggestions?
    The code is as follows:
      public void open(File input) throws IOException, CSLXMLException {
        InputStream schema = ZipFileHandler.getResourceAsStream("<jar file name>", "<schema resource name>");
        DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
        DocumentBuilder builder = null;
        try {
          factory.setNamespaceAware(true);
          factory.setValidating(true);
          factory.setAttribute(JAXP_SCHEMA_LANGUAGE, W3C_XML_SCHEMA);
          factory.setAttribute(JAXP_SCHEMA_SOURCE, schema);
          builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
          builder.setErrorHandler(new CSLXMLParseHandler());
        } catch (Exception builderException) {
          throw new CSLXMLException("Error setting up SAX: " + builderException.toString());
        Document document = null;
        try {
          document = builder.parse(input);
        } catch (SAXException parseException) {
          throw new CSLXMLException(parseException.toString());
        }

    I was originally using getSystemResource, which worked fine until I jarred the application. The problem appears to be that resources returned from a jar file cannot be used in the same way as resources returned directly from the file system. You have to use the ZipFile class (or its JarFile subclass) to locate the ZipEntry in the jar file and then use ZipFile.getInputStream(ZipEntry) to convert this to an InputStream. I have seen example code where an InputStream is used for the JAXP_SCHEMA_SOURCE attribute but, for some reason, this did not work with the InputStream returned by ZipFile.getInputStream. Like you, I have also seen examples that use a URL but they appear to be URL's that point to a file not URL's that point to an entry in a jar file.
    Maybe there is another way around this but writing to a file works and I set use File.deleteOnExit() to ensure things are tidied afterwards.

  • Problem parsing xml(J2ME Web Service spec) containing image in cldc/midp

    Hi,
    I have created a restful web service that generates xml file in app server. I have created xml file using JAXB2.1 spec. This xml file has many elements starting from char data to image (binary data). I could successfully create xml file and developed another test client to read the same file using JAXB. However, I am finding a problem while getting the image in the java me client (cldc1.1 and midp2.0).
    I am using J2ME Web Services Specification, using javax.xml.parsers.SAXParser to parse the xml file. Parsing is successful and got the character data. But the image data is not accurate, so I am not getting the image. I suspect the problem is with encoding but not sure how to solve this. At the server end, I verified that xml file is encoded with "UTF-8" encoding, not sure how to decode at the client end.
    I am totally confused as how to get the accurate image data, not sure if I use kxml parser would solve my problem.
    I would really appreciate if somebody can get back to me as this is very very important.

    Try to send to your web service the byte array instead of string and then convert the byte array into an image
    using a method like the following one in your service:
    // C# code
    public Image ByteArrayToImage(byte[] byteArrayIn)
         MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(byteArrayIn);
         Image returnImage = Image.FromStream(ms);
         return returnImage;
    }There can be some problem between encoding in J2ME and .Net so try different encodings in gathering the image bytes in your j2ME application, but, instead of jpg which has more encodings, try png that is a more standardized image compression(open standard).

  • Ignoring white lines in a file parsed with Scanner

    I've a little problem...
    How to ignore white lines in a file (for configuration informations) parsed with Scanner???
    My parser can ignore #(comments) and other thing, but not white lines...
    oooo
    fucking little problem!!!
    Thank for solutions...
    euronymous

    Wrong assumption. Scanner doesn't return lines, it returns tokens separated by delimiters which are whitespace by default, so by default it will already ignore blank lines.
    If you are using custom delimiters, make sure to include space, tab, and newline (\r \n and \f) as delimiters.

    Looks like a problem with Hibernate itself parsing the config file?

  • Problem parsing the path data - error on jpgs

    Photoshop CS2 v9.0.2 Windows XP SP2
    Received the following error message in CS2: "Could not complete your request because of a problem parsing the path data"
    I began getting the message above after adding ITPC data to three .jpg files. The message appears when I try to open the files from either Bridge or Windows Explorer. Other files are not affected. The .psd master file with the same metadata opens ok. I tried clearing the ITPC data, but this had no affect. I also tried moving the file to a different folder and renamed the file with no success. The files open ok in Windows Paint and appear ok in Bridge.
    I created the ITPC data on one file in Photoshop and saved a metadata template. Then, in Bridge 1.0.4.6 I used the "replace metadata" command on the other two files.
    I searched the knowledge base and this forum. I found only one hit in the forum from 2007, but there were no responses.
    Can anyone describe what triggers this message, and how to avoid it or fix it?
    Thanks

    Foward / backward slashes should not cause issues, as they are part of the standard character set on any system for obvious reasons, but I would more assume that this is an issue in how Windows translates the file info to native paths and tries to access those paths for verification. I seem to recall having read something along those lines recently in relation to some security issues, but I'm not really sure. anyway, does "escaping" the characters improve the matter (\\ or \/)?

  • Fatal Error:  Problem parsing signature --D

    I get "Fatal Error: Problem parsing signature --D" followed by the name of the class that I'm attempting to initialize. This occurs when I run the program, however I don't get this when I am debugging. Does anyone know what this means and how I can fix it?
    Thanks,
    Tyler

    I figured it out. My problem was that there was some kind of error happening in my code. I believe is was a couple of null pointer exceoptions or something along those lines. Once I debugged the hell out of my code, I was able to run the app completely without the error. I'm sure the same thing is happening with you as well.

  • When try to download firefox my android says "problem parsing this package"

    I have an Allwinner Android Kitkat 4.4 tablet. When I try to download Firefox I get the message "There was a problem parsing this package" when I try to open the 'exe' file in the downloads folder. How can I fix this?

    Hi stockrags,
    You might have downloaded the Windows version by accident. For every different platform (ie Windows/Mac/Linux) there's a slightly different way of installing Firefox. For Android you need to either install through an app store (like Google Play) or download an 'apk' file.
    Do you have access to the Google Play store? If so, use this link to install Firefox:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox
    Otherwise, you can download the apk file from here:
    http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/latest/android/
    To install from an apk, you might need to adjust your tablet's security settings to allow installations from unknown sources. Let us know if you'd like help with that. :)
    Best,
    Josh

  • Internet connection dropping out throughout day; problem NOT with provider

    My computer's connection to the Airport Express base station has no problems at all. But the internet connection goes out literally dozens of times a day (at no predictable schedule); this has been happening for almost a month. I originally thought the problem was with the internet provider, but I'm now beginning to think that either my settings are wrong, or that I have a corrupt file somewhere. Here are the details:
    I connect via a cable modem (Time Warner - Road Runner). I know people have had problems with Time Warner, so I assumed that was the issue; however I've had 3 service calls and they've checked signal strength inside and out, and swapped out the modem and the cables. I don't think it is simply problems in our geographic area (i.e. greater Los Angeles) due to the fact that the Internet fails sometimes 40-50 times daily, and the problem began when I upgraded from an old Airport base station to a brand new Airport Express about a month ago.
    The airport/internet connection is shared 3 ways: two MacBook Pro computers and one iPhone. My Airport's internet settings are as follows:
    Configure IPv4 using DHCP.
    DNS Servers: 66.75.160.63 and 66.75.160.64 (note I have already tried swapping these for OpenDNS -- this did NOT solve the problem)
    Domain name: socal.rr.com
    DHCP Client ID: [blank]
    Ethernet WAN port: Default-Automatic
    Connection Sharing: Share a Public IP address
    DHCP Beginning Address: 10.0.1.2
    Ending Address: 10.0.1.200
    DHCP Lease: 4 hours
    NAT settings are all unchecked
    One of the main reasons I believe that the problem is with my computer's settings or a corrupt file is that I can fix the problem whenever the Internet "goes down" almost 100% of the time by doing the following: after loading Airport Utility, I make ANY trivial change (i.e. changing the DHCP lease from 4 hours to 5 hours) and then click UPDATE to refresh the Airport base station. This fixes the problem almost 100% of the time. But then, anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours later, the Internet connection goes down again. [Unplugging the power from the modem, waiting 30 seconds, and plugging it back in ALSO fixes the problem almost 100% of the time, until it goes out again a little while later.]
    Also, I have tried disconnecting Airport and connecting directly to the cable modem via Ethernet. The problem remains exactly the same -- I can connect, but then the connection fails soon after. Unplugging then replugging the modem fixes the problem temporarily. So I do not think the problem is a defective Airport base station, nor do I think it is the modem (which has been replaced), nor Time Warner.
    I can't think of what else to try -- but any advice would be greatly appreciated -- it's impossible for us to work with the Internet constantly going out throughout the day, every day.
    Thank you!

    The problem is with my iPhoto on my Macbook air.  I am trying to move my library from my airbook onto my passport drive.  I did it and deleted it from the airbook but it simply re appeared possibly from the cloud. Not sure what to do next. Sorry I am not a techie.

    Sorry - we can not see you
    what do you have? Version of iPhoto? Of the OS? How is the passport connected to your Mac? What format is the passport (for the iphoto library it must be Mac OS extended (journaled)  )?  The iPhoto library is not and can not be on the cloud (maybe later with the Photos Application)

  • I get an error message when trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. The message says "windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have anything connected to my computer. How do I fix this?

    I'm trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. I went through the process of bootcamp telling it to install windows 7. Once the windows boot manager started an error message came up. The error message says " windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have a usb connected to my computer. I  am using windows 7 professional install disc. I  can't figure out what i am doing wrong. The same message keeps coming up over and over. Am I doing something wrong or is it something else?

    Well, shucks, i just spent almost 30 minutes trying to find your model user guide to explain it better, I guess they never got around to making it.....
    I would just borrow another Windows disk and try installing it again and if it does it again then you might take it to an Apple Store and see if one of the "Genius' " can figure it out.
    Make sure your internet is enabled and click on your blank desktop and at the top of your screen is a Help menu option, enter PRAM and it should give you a list of things relating to Pram. It may take a few seconds to list anything as it has to connect to Apples severs first. It should list the things you may have to fill back in when your done.
    "P-ram" stores some common information that is used in the background, your date, time, startup disk, etc, that you don't have to re-fill when you restart, it's a little different for each computer.
