Problem Photoshop CS2

When I'm editing a photo, windows utilities close by themselves and the  image disappears. I have to click on the gray background to return  everything to appear. Why does this happen?

We can't know. You are not providing technical info or other details. Chances are that some tool on your system is simply chnaging teh Window focus, which could be some instant messenger or another tool that produces messages in the taskbar or pop-up warnings.

  • Date preferences problem - Photoshop CS2 and OS X 10.4.6

I am running Photoshop CS2 9.0.1 on two Mac G5s (Mac OS X 10.4.6) and Photoshop CS 8.0 on a Mac G4 (Mac OS X 10.4.6) but now have a problem with the correct display of dates in File Info on the pair of G5s running CS2 9.0.1.
However I configure the date display preferences in International in System Preferences (UK prefs - DD/MM/YYYY) File Info will now only display the date as 'short', i.e. 1/6/06, for example. Naturally this presents a major problem with all my pre-2000 dates. By contrast, with exactly identical System Preferences on the G4 with Photoshop CS, the dates display correctly, i.e. 01/06/2006 or 06/06/1944. One of the G5s also has Photoshop CS 8.0 and also exhibits the same problem.
Is this an OS X 10.4.6 update problem, as I believe, or a combination of flaws between Apple and Adobe? Is there a cure? With a vast number of images in a picture library it is essential to have accurate, pre-2000, dates embedded in the File Info metadata. Can anyone offer an answer, a solution or a workaround?

After much trial and error I eventually discovered a fix. When customizing the Date Format Preferences (UK) (in System Preferences/International) select 'Short' and then drag the day of the week from the list below as the first item in the displayed date; i.e. Thursday 08/06/2006
Then modify the DD, MM and YYYY by highlighting the numbers and selecting the full 2 or 4 number digit from the drop-down menus. This is something that seemed to be fine in 10.4.5 but has changed in 10.4.6!

  • Photoshop CS2 Upgrade Installation Problems w/ Vista Problems

I recently purchased a new laptop w/ Windows Vista which I'm trying to install my copy of Photoshop CS2 onto. My Photoshop license is an upgrade license ... originally upgraded from Photoshop v4.0.
When installing an upgrade copy of PS CS2, it requires proof of your previous version in order to verify you're a legitimate upgrader. This works fine if you're upgrading from a version of Photoshop after 5.x ...you simply insert your CD and the installation continues. The installation process is less straight-forward for users like myself ... installing from an upgraded version prior to 5. I'm required to call Adobe ... and conduct a phone verification procedure where I give them a code displayed on the screen during installation and they give me a response code to type into the installation form.
I deauthorized my old laptop ... start the installation routine on my new laptop ... call Adobe w/ my verification code ... enter the response code (which is accepted) and complete the installation without any problems. My problem occurs when I go to run the software. The startup screen indicates that the software is still in "Tryout Mode", and the first window I'm presented with is the "Adobe Activation" window requesting my serial number. If I try to enter my CS2 serial number it is rejected with the message:
"You must enter a valid serial number before activating online or viewing activation options. Please check your serial number and re-enter it, or click the Purchase button to buy a copy of this product"
The thing is ... this IS a valid serial number. I've confirmed this with Adobe. (It's probably an upgrade serial number, which is why the software is rejecting it). I called Adobe and they're now telling me that I must enter a paid-support agreement in order to receive help installing my software. They claim their software is working correctly, and it must be a problem with my computer.
Has anybody experienced a problem like this? I refuse to pay more for something that worked fine on XP just to use it on Vista due to bugs in their installation and activation routine.

I know this is an old problem, but surely there is an answer to fix the problem by now...
What problems?  I used Photoshop CS2 with Vista with no problems (I still have it installed on a Vista system if you'd like me to check anything in particular).  CS3 and CS4 worked well as well.  Haven't tried CS5 on Vista as I have moved up to Windows 7, but I suspect it works just fine.

  • Photoshop CS2 launch problem

Most of the time I attempt to launch Photoshop CS2 it fails. I have to try 2 or 3 times before it's successful.
I've put a new alias in my dock and still have the same problem. It's ok when I double click on the icon in the application folder.
I've repaired permissions and disc and it still happens.
There are some times when it works ok, but mostly it doesn't.
If any suggestion is to re-install the application, do I just install over the old app or do I have to delete the old app before the new installation?
Has anyone any advice as to what the problem could be?
    Thanks

    Hello Frank,
Sometimes preference files can get corrptped and perhaps that is the issue with your Photoshop CS 2 software. Locate this file or one that looks similar: com.adobephotoshopcs2.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Locate that file from the Preferences folder, drag it to the Desktop. Try to launch Photoshop. If it functions as it should, drag that bad .plist file to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. It's ok to delete a pref file as Photoshop will create a new clean one the next time you launch Photoshop. You will have to reset your Photoshop preferences, but that's one sure fire way to correct a bad pref file.
If that doesn't help... same path... locate this file: com.apple.recentitems.plist Same routine... see if that helps.
And, always, when applications are stubborn... run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Disk Utility is in your Applications/Utilities menu.

    Problems with Photoshop CS2
I originally purchased this software several years ago. At time I was running Microsoft Windows XP.
    This computer recently was replaced with a Dell running Windows 8.I reloaded my CS2 on this computer & it ran fine with a few exceptions as follows;
when the software comes up initially I get a message that says “could not complete your request because of program error”. Hitting OK allows me to continue using the software .
When I try to activate a function using CTLR or ALT keys I get this message “required application failed to load and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application”. This causes the application to abort.
Reloading my CS2 continues to generate the same messages when I depress the CTLR or ALT keys.

Your original copy is obsolete and Adobe is offering a free replacement you are entitled to. Download and use that and that should clear it up for you.

  • Printing problem from Photoshop CS2 to HP 3500CP plotter

I am running Photoshop CS2 on the computer connected to my 3500CP plotter. I have for the past few years had no problem printing. This past several days tried to proint a banner for my daughter's birthday and whenI go from Print with Preview to start the print it shows the plotter is receiving the file. The plotter automatically does a printhead check and then shows it is printing but then just starts rolling a blank page out until I stop it and reset everything. I have run several tests on the plotter and all come back good so I am guessing it is coming from Photoshop though I am doing nothing different than I have before. I hope someone has a suggestion sisnce I need this banner before Friday. My daughter turns 33 on 11/11/11. Thank you in advance.

Well... I fixed the problem a little differently. I got a 100% + costs refund from HP themselves and bought an Epson! Boy, was that ever the right decision to make. I've had not a single problem with the Epson where the HP gave me a litany of endless drama. I can't understand why a printer maker needs to create faulty and bug ridden software that wants to take control over both Windows and Photoshop and then they try and blame everyone except themselves.
The HP Z5400 postscript printer proved one important thing to me... You only ever get what you pay for. I run canvas about4 to 5 hours a day with the Epson. I had to stay at work past 8 hours a day just to get the same amount of work out of the HP. For speed, I've never had anything faster than a Canon 8100 but the hidden costs of ownership are horrendous. The HP was the cheapest printer I've had and the slowest. The Epson is economical to run, performs at a reasonable speed and doesn't have any hidden costs.
After 5 months of hassling HP to get the "next day, on-site" support I paid $1200 extra for and never got, I can guarantee you I'll never , ever own another Hewlett Packard product again. I had to go to the Asian Pacific head off to get anyone who'd listen to me. The Australians wanted me to sign a form I'd keep my mouth shut and sacrifice nearly a grand I'd put into it before talking about a refund. Then I discovered they'd been fined 3 MILLION bucks by the competition and consumer watch dog in Australia over telling someone who bought a $200 printer to go take a walk when it dropped its guts a few weeks after buying it. That mob is pure poison for consumers.

  • Upgrade install problem Photoshop CS5 from CS2, MacOS 10.6.8

    Hello,
My wife was using Adobe Photoshop CS2 for a long time.  We purchased a Photoshop CS5 upgrade in 2010 through Amazon, but she never installed it after reading about problems other people had with the upgrade.  It was still in its shrink wrap seal until last night.
Then she recently went to upgrade her Mac laptop to 10.9 Mavericks from 10.6 Snow Leopard, and discovered that Photoshop CS2 will no longer work since CS2 was a PowerPC application.  No problem - we thought we'd just finally install that CS5 upgrade first.  The Amazon web page where we bought the product stated that this was a valid upgrade path, so we thought we would not have a problem.  However, when we went to do the install, we received an "Inconsistency in the installer database" error.
Going to the support live chat, we were told by Yaseer that we could no longer upgrade from CS2 to CS5 because the CS2 "server" was shut down, and we should go to the forums for help with this instead.
Now what?  We own a legal copy of PS CS2, and bought a legal upgrade copy of PS CS5 with the understanding that this was a legal upgrade path, purchased from a reputable dealer (Amazon), but now it doesn't work.  There must be something that can be done here.
I'm not using my wife's Adobe id which she used to register her product, but I can provide that id as well as the serial numbers for CS2 and the CS5 upgrade.

    run the cleaner, http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
    restart your computer
    then try to install cs5.
if you're prompted for a cs2 serial number and your cs2 number fails, use the one linked from this page:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l

  • PhotoShop CS2 MultiMonitor Problems

Hi, I recently built my dad a new machine for his work.  The machine is set for multiple monitors (3) and to dual boot to Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and XP Pro 32bit.  I installed PhotoShop CS2 on the Win7 partition, and everything seemed to go well.  However when photoshop's main window is extended across all 3 monitors the window starts to artifact/glitch, and so does the desktop, causing many things to be unresponsive when clicking on them.  I can pull up task manager without any problem and close PhotoShop which immediately ends all problems.  This problem only occurs with photoshop's main window.  It does not occur in any other programs, nor does it occur with the photo editing window (the window the actual picture is displayed in.)  This multi-monitor setup was running on an older machine without this problem.  The problem occurs when about 2 and 2/3rds of the screens are taken up horizontally, the vertical size has no effect.  It doesn't matter which monitor is the third monitor, as soon as the main photoshop window hits a certain horizontal length the problem occurs.  If I reduce the resolution of the monitors the problem does not occur.  This leads me to believe it’s a problem photoshop’s main window is having after reaching a certain horizontal size.  Has anyone else had this problem, or know of a solution or at least a reason this is occurring if there is no solution?  I would like to get this problem fixed so my dad can take full advantage of the screen real-estate available for his work productivity.

  • LIghtRoom color problem vs PhotoShop CS2 on Nikon RAW

I recently bought Adobe Lightroom and I was surprised to notice some huge color differences compared to PhotoShop CS2.
Im using Nikon D80 and shooting RAW. I have calibrated semi-pro monitor.
The same RAW file opens in LightRoom pretty well until you get the rendering preview. Once the preview is done, the picture becomes desaturated in red and blue and has a green cast especially in the shadows with much lower contrast. If I use Edit in PhotoShop option, the picture becomes even worse (even more desaturated and greenish) when opens in PhotoShop. If I open the same RAW in PhotoShop directly (using the NEF plug-in, not CameraRaw!) everything is just fine. The picture looks as opened in Nikon Picture Project or as I saw it when I took the picture.
After doing some research, I think that my problem relates to the way that Adobe Camera RAW, Bridge and LightRoom open a Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3001 (D80) raw file. However, all the things being equal, PhotoShop CS2 (using the NEF plug-in) renders the same colors as Picture Project does (and what I saw on my camera and in reality). I also noticed that choosing sRGB in Camera Raw bring the things closer to the Picture Project colors but far from identical. Anyways, there is no way to change anything in LightRoom, outer than manually twicking all colors until I think it looks good. Which, I think Is very subjective and is different for every picture.
Right now, my Creative Suite Color Settings is North America General Purpose 2 (synchronized for all CS applications) and no application asks me anything about changing the color profile when opening the file. I shoot (with D80) in raw, Normal camera mode (no saturation / contrast, color profile change). I opened the same file in all mentionned applications (LightRoom, CameraRaw from Bridge, PhotoShop and Picture Project) and save them as .jpeg (same size, dpi, etc.) without changing anything (no camera calibration in ACR or LR; no printer profile in PhotoShop). I sent the .jpegs to my local Costco and printed them on glossy paper. All of them printed the same way that they look on the screen. LR, ACR - desaturated on red&blue, color cast on green and low contrast, while great vivid colors and contrast from PhotoShop and Picture Project. For me it looks pretty much as Adobe applications convert Nikon sRGB into a very unappealing Adobe sRGB (and way different from what I saw in reality). I know this is very subjective; some people may argue that Nikon profile is too reddish and oversaturated. But I find the whole story rather unusual. They all work in the sRGB space and there shouldn't be any differences. I've done lot of testing with color profiles and replacing the Camera Raw plugin file format (common files) with Nicon plugins and vice-versa. But still the same result.
I create a User Profile in LightRoom and I get pretty decent colors now, but when I want to edit the file in PhotoShop (from LightRoom) I get the same green and desaturated version.
    What do you think?

    >Regarding LR, what I'm looking here is a "factory made" solution; something that can give consistent results in the initial conversion (like Nikon plugin for PhotoShop, for e.g.)
The problem with that conversion is that you cannot change it. In lightroom you change the actual conversion parameters, which gives you far more leeway and allows for far better conversions in the end. Currently (this will change with Lightroom 2.0 apparently) the only recourse you have if you prefer Nikon's colors is to shoot jpeg, or run your NEFs through capture and create 16-bit tiffs. This is just the way it is. A hammer gives a different result than a screwdriver.
    >It's hard for me to believe that Adobe has invested so much energy and resources in color profiling but it's unable to get nearly close to the Nikon raw colors.
Nikon's colors are far from colorimetrically correct which you can see in many tests. Here is an example for the D300: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/D300/D300IMATEST.HTM It is off in the deep reds, the saturated blues, and the Olive-like colors. Profiling the camera does not help you get close to Nikon's colors, but it will get you closer to the ideal colors. I doubt it has been Adobe's goal to get close to the in-camera rendering with Lightroom upto 1.4. They profile all the cameras and make some value judgments on what is more important. Skin tones vs saturated colors etc just like Nikon does.
Regarding getting close to camera colors, there is a trick that you can do to get close to the camera jpeg that involves the ACR calibration scripts. You do need PS CS3 though.
    >I find rather strange that apparently there is no way to get professional conversion. This is defying the main purpose of Color Profiling, I think.
Why is Nikon's conversion professional and Adobe's not? They are both just interpretations of the sensor data. Adobe's is actually colorimetrically more correct in many cases. Colorimetrically correct often means boring unfortunately. This has to do with the fact that our eyes are not color measurement devices but that we have brains interpreting the data. To get pleasing results, Color Profiling does not help as much as you'd like. My issue with the in-camera or Nikon software approach is that it locks you down creatively to the
creative choices the Nikon folks made. Now, be aware that in the Lightroom 2.0 forum the Adobe folks have hinted at major changes to the rendering engine that will bring colors closer to the vendor rendering. How they will do this is unknown right now.

  • Problems installing Photoshop CS2 on iMac

I have my brand new iMac 20" Intel Core Duo, and I have recently purchased Photoshop CS2 and I can not get it to install. I saw in some places about the SU 2006-003 patch, but I have not installed that. I also saw about VC2 in the startup items, but that is not on my hard drive.
The problem that I am having is that it gets so far into the Running Installer Script and then everything just freezes. I'm not sure what could be wrong.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Todd

    Hi all,
I have had some luck with CS2 and my iMac Intel. But this is only after i spent a week of trouble shooting. A WEEK, on a brand new computer?... this to me is laughable. I am a die-hard Mac user but i have to say i am thouroughly disappointed in my new iMac. After 6 great years on my reliable G4 550Mhz 768RAM i upgraded to an iMac Intel and I just don't see the stability that i used to have with my G4.
Anyway, on the iMac, I did ALL the updates (including the security update and QT 7.1) and was running os x 10.4.6 and when i tried to install CS2, when i got to the second disc, installation froze, computer froze and i had to force a shutdown with the power button. When restarting, the iMac booted to the desktop, but nothing else loaded (no dock, no finder bar at the top, and no desktop icons; mouse didn't function as well) Called AppleCare and ended up having to trash my preferences and trash all that was installed by CS2. Well, that got my iMac working again but was nervous about trying to install CS2 again. Reading somewhere on these boards i came across a thread that mentioned installing Stuffit Expander, saying that some files on the installation discs needed decompression and since stuffit didn't come with OS X 10.4.6 i went ahead and downloaded the free stuffit expander. Heck at that point, i was ready to try anything. After installing stuffit, i tried installing CS2 again and this time the installation did work but seemed to freeze at the end. No message saying installation was succesful, just froze after CS2 finished installing from disc 4. I force restarted with the power button again, but this time the desktop, icons, mouse and dock were working as normal. I was able to run illustrator, photoshop, indesign, golive, bridge and acrobat pro simultaneously, but i wasn't doing any "real" graphics work. I do notice a lag when switching between apps. For example when i switch from illustrator to photoshop, it takes a few seconds for all the tool bars and palettes to load. I should also mention i have 1 gig of RAM. Read somewhere it's better to have 2 gigs, but come on... 2 gigs of RAM just to have functioning software? (another disappointing work around) Not sure if stuffit helped, or just a coincidence. I'm no expert so I'm wondering if anyone else tried that and had success like i did.
I am sorry about this rant, but you figure if you pay so much for a computer, that it should work correctly and that it was tested realistically for bugs. Not with a supercomputer with infinate RAM. I know i bought an apple, but this computer is running like a lemon and to be honest, i'm nervous about installing any updates or additional applications. Being a freelance designer, i don't have the option of pushing back deadlines... and the troubleshooting and time on-hold that i have to waste is crippling my workflow and losing clients for me. Wondering if i would be able to exchange my iMac for a G5 PowerMac with no restocking fees. I have no problem paying the difference in price between the machines but refuse to pay restocking fee for a machine that simply does not cut it.
Well, hope everyone else has luck and let me and the discussions boards know if the stuffit thing is a fix, workaround, or just coincidence and i got lucky installing CS2
    good luck to all

  • Many problems with Photoshop CS2

    Hi,
I noticed many failure on CS2 softwares, i didnt upgrade to CS3 and iam wondering if it it worth the investment looking how much messy CS2s is to my projects so far. I thought they brought in CS2 to solves the many glitches in CS, but...
1 - Illustrator CS2 doesnt not export to gif. I am working on an e-commerce project having to customize hundreds of gif pictures. I am more fluent with Illustrator than Photoshop plus the many vector tools makes it more useful for this kind of project.
    - This forces me to try some complicated workflow where i do the design first in illustrtor then export to .psd so i can simply save out as gifs. This is where i found many other problems:
2- When i open these psd that took so many hours to design, i found out photoshop interprets everything poorly. It messed up all the dimensions and sizes.
3- I set document sizes in Illustrator to small sizes even if i imported in a large picture that i use as background (moving and rotating that background allows me to create many variations of my background keeping the same tone), but the exported psd didnt respect the doc settings and instead of cropping brings in the entire file resolution.
4- I dunno if any of you guys have tried to do anything like selecting many layers and rescale them in photoshop? Or simply select a text layer and resize it in photoshop? really painy. Such a breeze in other applications like flash or illustrtor appear so heavy in photoshop, i ended up losing all the harmony of my works, if not my sanity.
Please if someones have ever gone thru all these nightmares before can you explain me how you found way around it would be very nice and helpful.

  • Memory Problems with Photoshop CS2 - RAM not being utlized

I am having memory issues with Photoshop CS2. I have a G5 dual 2.5 with 8 GB of RAM. PS CS2 keeps hanging on me when I'm doing fairly routine tasks with a fairly complex low-res .psd file. It includes several nested layers...etc.
I noticed while running activity monitor that Photoshop is utilizing a very small percentage of my system's RAM. Approximately 475 MB of the total 8 GB RAM and 1.07 GB of harddrive space for the scratch disk. This seems odd as there is over 6 GB of free RAM while this is happening.
I've uploaded a screen capture of my activity monitor while Photoshop is hanging. Note that the CPU percentage is above 98%. That's an awful lot of RAM going unused.

Any idea what's going on here? Could it be a corrupt file or font?

Doesn't completely make sense as I've been using this particular machine for almost two years without any problems working in much more complex and much larger high-res .psd files. I doubt that's what the issue is here. I'm starting to think the file became corrupted...
Hard to believe that Adobe/Apple haven't issued a fix for the RAM issue yet.
I also run routine CRON maintenance using Cocktail and have no other issues with any software....
