Problem playback device

Hi new to skype, unable to have my first video chat.  Message coming up "problem with playback device"
grateful if anyone can help.
Thanks

I'm not sure why that's occurring.  You might want to upgrade your video drivers as well, but I don't know anything about your video or make/manufacturer of your computer based off what you gave me.
You can try the following to see if it will help:
Dell's ADI  198x Sound Drivers (The latest Soundmax drivers I could find  - Feb 2011)
Even if you computer is not a Dell, they may install fine.

    Try the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update, select 'View update history' in the left hand pane and then select 'Installed updates' link in the following window.
Locate update KB2962407, right click it and select Uninstall.  When done, restart the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update and select 'Check for updates'.  You'll see the update you just uninstalled being offered again - right click and select 'Hide Update'.
When windows has reloaded, use recovery manager to reinstall your original IDT HD Audio driver as detailed in the document on the link below.

  • Problems with Playback Device ?

Im using Skype for desktop and it doesnt make the noises when I receive a message. I tried checking if the noise all together wasn't working and when I tried called the Echo / Sound Test Service it told me there were problems with the playback device. The sound works fine on other apps it's just that it doesn't seem to work on Skype. I went on the sounds tabs in the options menu and I selected the correct device to play the sound with but it still won't work. I am using an ASUS laptop.

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.

  • Problem with Playback device on windows 10

Just today i downloaded the new Windows 10 update and i like it for the most part. But i went on skype today for a video chat and a pop up came up saying that i have a problem with playback device and i cannot video or voice call. skype worked fine yesterday on windows 8, need solutions ASAP.

Do minimize the chances of having issues with other audio/video devices: 1.  Uninstall Cyberlink Webcam Splitter.  It my not work properly in Windows 10.2.  Disable Stereo Mix. You can also download and install the latest Realtek Driver suite even if you have the latest/same drivers installed.  The suite can resolve issues. Download and install the latest generic Realtek audio drivers (High Definition Audio Codecs - 64bit Windows 10)http://www.realtek.com/downloads/ I've outlined most of the causes and solutions here:http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/Problem-With-Playback-device/m-p/3356467/highlight/true#M282763

  • No Sound Device/Playback Device --At the end of my rope

First let me state that I've tried several methods to fix my problem already, and none appear to help or work, I've followed the advice given by several others, and I'm really not sure what I can do at this point. I even bought a new Soundcard thinking it would solve the problem...but it has not.
If I were to go into Device Manager right now, Windows detects TWO Audio Devices:
    Soundblaster Xi-Fi Extreme Audio
Vinyl AC '97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM)
The latter I can easily disable in BIOS on Startup, but this does not help me one bit.
I have checked my Sounds and Audio Devices:
No Audio Device/No Playback Device/Sound Recording is Soundblaster/Midi is Creative SoundFont Synth/No Voice Playback/Voice Recording is Soundblaster.
I have checked my Services (Local):
Windows Audio Service is "Started" and set to Automatic?
I have checked other media devices and get errors regarding "Direct Sound" or "Wave Out".
Regarding the programs related to my drivers, I have tried to uninstall them and reinstall them in Safe Mode but this has not helped. In particular one of the programs VIA Audiodeck (related to my onboard audio) cannot seem to find certain files to uninstall itself, aside from the fact it couldn't run when I installed it in the first place. (In part I'm looking for a free program that can uninstall stuff that can't be uninstalled the usual way).
Finally I've discovered I'm getting errors in trying to check for Windows Updates (even though I have Service Pack 3 now). Windows Automatic Updates says it's "On" but doesn't show up.
I don't really know what the root of my problem is, as I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my drivers several times (even attempted to?clean up the registry from leftover fragments). I've used programs like Belarc Advisor and Driver Scan but these don't tell me what to do or how to proceed. I'm at my wit's end here.

  • Loss of sound due to no playback devices following an system update.

I have a Model #: 23-c055, Product #: H4A31AA#ABA.  My machine was updated over the weekend with an automatic update and now my playback devices for both video and audio are gone.  The selections within Device management are not available for selection to modify.  HELP!

    Nina, welcome to the forum.
You should go into Control Panel / Sound and check to assure that your sound device is selected as the Default.  This is most likely what has changed.  Here is how to reset the default device:
    Instructions:
1 Press the "Windows Key" and "R" keys simultaneously to load a Run box
2 Type "mmsys.cpl" and click "OK." This loads Windows Sound and Audio.
    3 Click the "Sound" tab.
4 Click the drop-down menu under "Sound Scheme" and select "Windows Default."
5 Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.
Please click "KUDOS Thumbs Up" if I have helped you and click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.

  • Bluetooth headset pairs, but is not available as playback device

    Hi there
I am trying to pair and use my MEElectronics Runaway bluetooth stereo headset (with microphone) with my Zbook. I am following the instructions at MEElectronics available here http://www.meelec.com/Articles.asp?ID=352#ytplayer
I make the device discoverable and am able to pair the devices.
I select the device in Windows and it says 'connecting to device' then 'configuring device'. Then
'This device has been successfully added to this computer. Windows is now checking for drivers and will install them if necessary. You may need to wait for this to finish before your device is ready to use. To verify if this device finished installing properly, look for it in Devices and Printers.'
I click on Devices and Printers, and find the Air-Fi Runaway.
I click on volume system icon to select it as a playback device, but it is not listed there.
How do I guarantee that Windows actually downloads and installs the drivers to make this work? It doesn't appear to be doing so automatically as per what happened above.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
    Tronica

    hello,
the reason the driver is not installed is because there is no windows 7/8 64bit driver available .
I have the same problem with another kind of headphones, soundpeats qy7 .
I keep searching and hoping that maybe a driver will be completed and published .

  • No HDMI Audio, Failed to Play Test Tone, Can't Change Default Playback Device

Hello, I'm experiencing some real trouble with my HP Pavilion dv6-2160us (with the i3-330M, no dedicated graphics) Windows 7-64 bit, SP1 PC, and I would greatly appreciate some assistance.
I've created a new thread because, despite the fact that many other people have experienced a problem similar to this and have posted what worked for them, nothing has worked for me.
    The Problem(s):
My main problem is that I cannot get any audio to play from my PC to my HDMI HDTV.
When I plug my HDMI cable into my PC and TV, the TV is recognized in Playback Devices, but nothing can play to it.
When I try to test the TV in playback devices, I get a "Failed to play test tone" error.
Additionally, I'd like to mention some other odd behavior that I think may be a part of the main problem.
In Playback Devices, I cannot change anything. I can't disable or enable a device, I can't set default playback or communication devices, and I can't save changes inside device properties. Every time I try to change something, like the default playback device, nothing happens or the changes are immediately reversed.
    The Question:
How can I get audio to play over HDMI on my PC (It's not a problem with the TV, my other HP machines play audio over HDMI to it just fine.)?
    What I've Tried:
    I have tried:
Changing the default playback devices, which I'm unable to do
Running the Windows 7 Audio Playback troubleshooters from within a clean boot state
Uninstalling and reinstalling the Intel(R) Display Audio driver
Uninstalling and reinstalling the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
Uninstalling the IDT PC Audio program from Programs and Features
Disabling the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
    Nothing has worked.
The drivers I have are the latest issued by HP
How can I get this working? I would really appreciate some assistance.
I'm at the point where I'm ready to try pretty technically-involved suggestions, so, please feel free to post those.
    Your expertise is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I understand that you are experiencing an issue with your playback device.  You did provide your exact model of computer which is great, but you did not tell me what operating system you are running and if it is a 32 or 64 bit system.  You can run the HP Support Assistant to help with updates and resolving issues.  You can also run MS Fix It to help, if you are running Windows 7. If you are running Windows 8 you have a built in troubleshooter.
Press the Windows key +C to open charms
Type troubleshoot playback device and press enter
    Follow the on screen prompts.

I hope you have and had a wonderful holiday.
Okay for your sound problem, it is possible that something else may have been inadvertently deleted when you disabled the Bluetooth. It is hard to say for sure.
I did find this page which is directly related to what you describe. In it is mentioned driver updates and BIOS updates.

  • Multiple audio playback devices

I have just built a system using the K7N2-L mainboard and am having a problem with multiple audio playback devices.
Actually I have TWO problems, which are probably unrelated.
I have a 5.1 speaker system connected to the onboard audio and an external USB DAC for playback through a hi-fi system.
The first problem is that the USB audio device is only recognised if it's plugged in after the system is booted.  If it's already attached when I power up, it appears not to be properly installed.
The second problem is that when I use the Sounds and Multimedia control panel to switch audio devices (Windows 2000 pro) playback continues through whichever device was used first.  In order to switch, I have to reboot the computer.
Another system I built using an Epox nforce board does not have this second problem, although it does have the first.  With the Epox board, I can even play through both devices simultaneously.

I gathered this from the handbrake side of things:
You can also combine Pro Logic II and AC3 pass-through. This will give you a file that will play anywhere from QuickTime to VLC to the iPhone (using the AAC Pro Logic II track) and play in true surround sound on an AppleTV or in Perian. It is the best of both worlds, and it is only possible in the .mp4 and .mkv containers. Again, MP4 file names must, confusingly, end in .m4v for QuickTimeto read them. To use this hybrid format, in the Audio tab, set the first audio track to be the track you want, in AAC sound. Then set the second track to also use the same source track, and select AC3 pass-through."
I think this is what will ultimately help me. I will let you know.
the answer was righ under my nose.
    Thank you!

  • [SOLVED]How to set default audio playback device?

I have an X-fi forte soundcard that doesn't work on linux, so I'm just gonna use the onboard realtek chip, but I get no sound from that either unless I physically remove the X-fi card.
I use the X-fi when I boot into windows though, so I'd like to keep it...
How do I change the default playback device?
I didn't find anything that worked in the wiki or with google.

oh wait... I just spotted this in the wiki guide, a little too late
NB: Some modules do not support indexing options eg. snd-hda-intel. If you experience problems on reboot edit /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf to just have the modules.
what does that mean "edit /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf to just have the modules.".... what modules? :S
should I just remove "index=0" from the line?
Edit: yes I should. It's working
    Thx man
