Problem playing .mid file with QT Player on an external MIDI instrument

Hello,
I am trying to play a .mid file with QT Player (so I can play it from various softwares as Keynote) and send it out on an attached MIDI device (thru M-audio or Tascam interface). Unfortunatelly, I can only choose "QuickTime Instruments" from the pop-up menu in QT Advanced Preferences. I tried with several configs (G4, G5), several MIDI interfaces, and last flavor of both Panther and Tiger with QT 7.0.4. I configured MIDI setups normally and I can play on exernal instruments from Logic or other sequencers.
Any idea why I cannot see my devices from QT directly ? Thanks,

I have tried with a Tascam US-428 with 10.3.9 and QT 6 (latest) and 7.0.4 hooked to a Akai S3000. I also tried on a G5 with a MOTU interface (all last software versions). At home, I have tried with my Ti550 running 10.3.9, QT 6 (latest) 7.0.1 and 7.0.4 and also with my Sawtooth (10.4.5, QT 7.0.4), both with a M-audio Uno interface hooked to a E-mu Proteus expander.
All configurations behave the same. They are working fine with various sequencers (Logic, PT, some freewares) but interfaces never show up in the advanced preferences of QT.

Problems playing .wmv file with Flip4mac installed

I have a video that was made in Windows Movie Maker, I believe, that is .wmv format. Works fine on the PC at church and home, but won't play on either my MacBook or my friend's. It is a fairly large file, 483MB.
It played fine on my old PowerBook G4 in Windows Media Player for Mac, but haven't tried it for a while, and I don't want to download Windows Media Player for Mac now that Flip4Mac is installed.
Other .wmv files play fine, this is the only one that has not worked...any ideas?

Hmm . . . comes with a Utility MPEG2 Component ML app with no explanation of what it's for?
The utility app is an "assistant PKG installer." It allows Lion and Mountain Lion users to install the older QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installer PKG file which is not allowed to run on its own under Lion or Mountain Lion since these operating systems already have a QT X only MPEG-2 component embedded in the QT embedded structure. Without this utility you would have to either copy the component from an older system to your Lion or Mountain Lion system, use Pacifist for installation, or manually open the PKG contents and transfer the component to the appropriate component folder.
As to your "discussion" regarding the playback of AVI file types, there are really only two strategies here:
1) You can add component support so that QT can play the files natively or
2) You can convert the file contents to compression formats that are natively compatible with the unmodified QT component configuration.
Each user should decide for his or her own self which approach best suits their needs for a particular source file. In most cases, conforming the system's codec component configuration to play the source file directly results in higher video quality since no transcoding takes place but this strategy will not work if a codec which is required is not available for the user's operating system. On the other hand, converter utilities tend to support more built-in codecs and are easier to use since the user does not have to concern him or herself with the nature of the particular source compression formats but at the risk of some potential loss in visual quality. As to what converter to use, once again this is a matter of personal choice. In the case of commercial converters like iSkysoft, the codecs are built in while MPEG Streamclip accesses the host operating system's QT codec component configuration. I personally prefer the free HandBrake app for AVI, MKV, TS, MTS, and M2TS conversions since it has an exceptionally full-featured X.264 GUI with some user options that 97% of users are likely to never use.

X-Fi DD-DTS doesn't seem to work right playing DVD Movies with VLC Player or anything els

I have an X-Fi Platinum with the bay and When I try to Play a DVD with VLC Player And choose a/52 over s/pdif it sounds HORRID skipping and pausing and not functioning at all.. I must choose 5. channel to have Listenable Audio. The Same goes for AC3 Encoded Files If I chose A/52 over S/PDIF in VLC player it sounds like **bleep** and doesn't seem to decode it right. I must chose stereo 2 channel to listen to AC3 encoded video's.. NOTE The dolby Digital symbol DOES appear when i chose A/52 over S/PDIF so it does know it's a digital signal.. And I have the software set to USE hardware decoder and S/PDIF in Decode selected. NOW Here's something that REALLY makes me wonder wtf is wrong, I can connect my Home DVD Player or Cable Box over the Optical?in OR the S/PDIF in and the SOB works Fine, The Dolby Digital symbol comes up and everything sounds great! Just upgraded an iMac with 4GB Memory and Intel Processor from 10.6.8 to Mavericks and Quicktime plays m4v files with stuttering audio

I just upgraded an iMac with 4GB Memory and 3.33 Ghz Intel Core Duo Processor from 10.6.8 to Mavericks. I now have Quicktime 10.3 which plays m4v files with stuttering audio. This is a nightmare as I use Quicktime a lot in my research. I have seen similar threads but so far only reporting the problem. For now I have installed Quicktime Player 10.7 (which appears in utilities, leaving Quicktime 10.3 in the main applications list) which plays the same videos with no problem, but it would be good to know if anyone has managed to find a workaround at all, or know if Apple have plans to do anything about it?

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.

I would like to implement Audio Streaming in Mobile application. I am record the voice using amr format and store
local mobile memory and retrieve and play the file successfully, what is my requirements is, when i was play the
file , i want to open the file in any default player in the mobile, the forward and backward control are use the default
player control. is it possible to play the file in default player in j2me. please reply soon.

my suggestion to u is use existing streaming protocol that already support by MMAPI, thats RTSP/RTP protocol.
u only need to configure existing streaming server like HELIX SERVER or DARWIN SERVER, and ENCODER like FFMPEG, HELIX PRODUCER, etc to encode ur live media / store file become RTP packet and then let server send that to ur client. u can use camera / TV turner also to capture live video and send that by streaming. So u dont need to make ur own server, except ur project need different protocol from that streaming server use.
in client side, u can choose to use REAL MEDIA or make ur own player, Nokia already support RTSP protocol since S40 3rd edition and S50 2nd edition FP 3. so u dont need to parse by ur code RTSP message and RTP packet. u also can use forward and backward fiture too by that both streaming server.
please read any RTSP / RTP standar protocol reference, i think it will be helpfull to u to make ur own system configuration ..

amarok 1.4.10 from AUR plays flac files with errors and i mean that it plays flac files but with strange behavior and of course the result is awful is there any chance to fix that problem. i have compile it with xine engine, can i use a different engine in PKGBUILD and how. i should write that i don't known much from configure a PKGBUILD by my own. with exaile and totem i have no problem i also play flacs with 24bit and 96khz audio quality. tnks for your time

looks like amarok just uses xine, which I don't know much about...
the 2.3 version depends on kde4, so you can run kde4 system settings and switch the multimedia backend between xine, mplayer, and gstreamer (need the aur packages first). I know mplayer should use ffmpeg to playback though.

Converting mov files with Quicktime Player for iDevices

I wasn't sure if should post this under iPad or here or at all as it is about coding, but it is about coding for Apple iDevices that can't display Flash, using Quicktime Player or QT Player 7 Pro:
I'm trying to add the ability for Apple iDevices that can't display tutorials I created in Flash, to see them with H.264. I read that I can simply open the original tutorial that luckily is a .mov file with Quicktime Player 10 in Snow Leopard and File > Save For Web and QT will convert to H.264 and also output several files needed to upload to your server.
But the only options are for iPhone, iPhone (cellular) and Computer. I assume an iPod would use the iPhone file, but iPad didn't exist yet.
I chose iPhone and Computer for my test. I got 2 .m4v files a .jpg, a small .mov and a .html page with the code I needed to copy/paste to my target html page.
Uploaded the files and could see the tutorial movie with my iPad fine. Using FireFox, I saw the beginning of the movie, then got the beachball. After a long wait, I tried a force quit and found that my Mac Pro was crashed too so had to hard shut down. Hate that.
Rebooted the computer. Tried accessing with Safari this time and it worked fine.
I also own Quicktime Player 7 Pro pre Snow Leopard (I'm running Snow Leopard now) and tried the conversion with it and noticed a few more config choices, like for frame rate. But the resulting code was about 29 lines of code with expected parameters versus 2 lines of code in the QT Player code which actually really surprised me. With both apps they have JavaScript references for the head tab to files on Apple's library on their site.
So.. I'm wondering why FF and my computer crash, I did output for computer as well as iPhone. And what to do for FF users and the fact that there's no specific output for iPad, am I OK just using the iPhone output since I can see the file OK on my iPad test.
Last, I've been reading about HTML5 versus Flash, but assume that what both my QT apps are outputting is HTML4. In the QT Player code there isn't even an embed tag, let alone the video tag I've read about, just a href to the exported Saved For Web .mov file, which I assume must point to the .m4v files that QT outputs and puts in the same folder as the other files, but there's no direct reference to them.
Sorry for the length, or if this isn't the place for these questions, but I do want to get this right before I convert about 20 tutorials
I wonder if I should wait until Lion and see if QT is changed to fix the FF crash and adds output for iPad?
One last thing: when you access the converted file with an iPad, first you see a jpg of the first frame with "Click to Play" in the center. When you do, you get the movie with a play triangle which you have to press to actually start the movie. But when you access the same html file with Safari, all you have to do is click the "Click to Play" and the movie starts as expected. Bug?

QuickTime X and QuickTime Player Pro create slightly different html code (but it all works about the same way). The "click to play" image file, a "reference" movie, multiple versions for different devices and the html code to preview the page and use as copy/paste into your Web page.
QuickTime X has fewer options than QuickTime Player Pro. The iPhone preset works just fine on the iPad.
Your Firefox crash may have been just coincidence and I doubt it was caused by the page code.
You may want to wait a while longer for the HTML 5 code because browser support is still in the learning stage and millions of PC users still use out of date browsers.
The reference movie points to the different versions of the file. The code "reads" the device and serves up the correct version for it.
I don't own an iPad but I suspect it works like my iPod Touch. All of my QuickTime files have the play "triangle" so the click to play image style page requires two clicks on it.

Keep working as you are is the simplest way. The VLC client (and server) has a pretty rich command-line interface, you can do pretty much anything through the command-line that you can with any other interface. Or there's the telnet interface, if all those processes are too much

i managed to open an audio file and placed it in the sampler,i can play t sample in the little keyboard in the zones section, howver i dont know how to play it with my controller... the sample shows in C1 on logic's keyboard but if i play C1 on my controller nothing happens... how can i fix this?
Also, i noticed the sample plays from beginning to end once i click on it, how do i do to just make it last until i release the key? like a logic sound??? (in case i want to play a small portion of the sample only)

How do I fix this?

That would probably be a question best taken up in on a site for Windows support questions. Not knowing anything about the movie you're trying to play, all I can suggest is to confirm that the format of the movie you wish to play is supported in your version of WMP. If it isn't, you'll either need to convert the movie or use some other player software.

I need to create a MIDI file with control cues only. Is that possible?

I need to create a stand alone MIDI file with control cues to control a non-musical device which does understand these files.
Must I create a virtual device in MIDI Setup for Logic to talk to?
Must I create notes in order to create regions that will export?
Is it possible to do this in MIDI channel 0?
Is LogicPro the tool to use to do this?
The maker of the device uses ProTools to create his MIDI files.
I use a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.10.2 running LogicPro 10.1.1.

No you cannot trigger a paragraph style with a character or character style.
But you can have a Apply Next Character Style

In the Heading 1 style go to "Next Style" under "General"
and choose "Bullet"
The select from "Accountable for:" to the last bullet in the list
Right Click on the Heading 1 style and go to Apply Heading 1 and Next Style.
