Problem Playing Video in Premiere Pro CS4

I am having a problem playing video in premiere pro. When I input any movie clip and try to play it in both the timeline and in the preview mode, the audio works fine but the video only plays a few seconds worth of footage at a really slow pace so that it takes up the entire time. For instance if I load a 3 minute video, the sound is normal but over the coarse of that 3 minutes I will only see a small number of the frames and they are cycled through in ultra slow motion.
All the clips play normally outside of premiere. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. I have premiere installed on my laptop and it works fine. I have tried rendering the video first and it still doesn't work. I have tried holding shift before the program is loading and it did nothing. I have downloaded all the updates too. Videos seem to play fine in After Effects.
Also, I am having trouble when importing HD video into premiere and after effects. For some reason the programs freeze when I try to import footage from my Creative Vado HD pocket video camera.
Here are my computer specs
Windows Vista Ultimate 32 Bit
Intel Core2 Quad q8200
ATI Radeon 4670 Graphics Card
Gigabyte Motherboard
4GB of 800 Mhz RAM
This is really frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Keith,
The file extension .AVI indicate a "wrapper." All sorts of stuff can be in that wrapper *. Some of that stuff will play/edit fine. Much will not and create issues, as you have seen. Your camera uses a CODEC to create those .AVI files. That CODEC is the issue. I recommend G-Spot to find out what the CODEC is. Some times it's just a matter of having the proper CODEC installed on the computer. Most of the time, it takes much more than that - hence Eddie's links on "conversion." At least G-Spot will get us all on the same playing field, and explicit help can follow - probably to study Eddie's links. My guess is that your camera uses some form of DivX CODEC, hence the problem that you see.
Good luck,
Hunt
* Think of .AVI like the foil wrapper on a stick of gum, when you remove the outer lable. You know it's gum, but not what flavor. Could be Juicyfruit, or Spearmint, or Double-mint. G-Spot will tell you the flavor. PrPro likes some flavors, but hates others.

  • Why when after I preview render my videos in Premiere Pro CS4, everything is off-screened???

Before I preview my videos, they all looked fine in on the preview box.
But after when I preview rendered them, everything looks off... the positions and the scalings of the videos are all totally squashed and sideways, like as if it's a corrupted file or something..
And another issue - when I want to final render out the videos, nothing seems to be moving at all... I have more than enough hard disk spaces, but they just won't move at all... why is this??
I'm using Premiere Pro version 4.0.1. (the latest version if I remember)
    Please help / advice, thanks

    Welcome to the forum.
What are the full specs. of your Source Files, and also your Sequence Preset?
It sounds like you have a mis-match in there somewhere.

  • Improve video quality (Premiere Pro CS4)

    Hi everyone,
I've been given an mpeg file that's really low quality, ie. it has a lot of compression artifacts. I wondered if there was a way to somehow improve the quality using premiere pro. I've never use this program before so would probably need basic instructions if there is a solution.
    Appreciate any advice.

As John T. points out, once heavy compression has been done, there is no undoing it. The bits of data are just no longer there.
Now, one can improve some aspects, but this is just making something bad, a bit less bad. Depending on the footage, a bit of Levels (not Auto-Levels), a bit of Highlight & Shadow (turn OFF Auto and then change the setting down quite a bit), Fast Color Corrector, perhaps Neat Video (optional plug-in from Neat Video), and then a touch of Unsharp Mask as the final. That might improve things a bit, but do not expect magic, as it is not going to happen.
Good luck, and if there is ANY way to get back to before that MPEG compression, get that. You will be so much farther ahead.

  • Exported HD video from Premiere Pro CS4 via Media encoder Freezes mid way through video

    Hi,
I couldnt find this raised by anyone else so thought id start a new thread. Ive tried a couple of times to export an edited project only to find the video is all good up until roughly  half way through the video at which point the video freeezes, the time keeps moving along as if its playing but no video. It looks like the encode failed at this point. I have no problems if I split up the video and export it in smaller pieces but obviously this isnt good enough
Any ideas as to the cause?
    Additional info:
    Im patched upto CS4.1
    Source footage is AVCHD
Project goes for just over an hour
    Cheers

That suggests some failure somewhere in the encoding process. It could be something in your timeline around 43 minutes, maybe a blank space (even for a single frame), a disk hiccup causing some part to go missing, other hardware problems. It could be a myriad of things going wrong. What background processes are running, what is your hardware setup, what are the temperatures during encoding, etc. Check the second part of this link: If you need help quickly...Guideline for posting an effective question

  • Swap fields in Premiere Pro CS4

How can I do "Swap fields" to a progressive video in Premiere Pro CS4 (4.2.1)? There is Project tab / right click video file / Interpret Footage / Field Order, but that only either does nothing to the progressive scan video or apparently converts interlaced to progressive, in which case my video goes very blurred and bad quality since it's not correctly processed.
So, my video is .avi MJPEG, incorrectly defined as "interlaced" in the headers and incorrectly having the field order swapped even though there are no real fields since it's progressive. It's saved by Blackmagic Intensity Pro capture card, no processing done yet.
I'm just looking for a simple swap fields function for Premiere, but can't find it anywhere. At export stage is same or similar to that Interpret Footage place, I can't swap fields but just basically destroy my video.

HDV is MPEG2 and capturing is only a tranfer of data, nothing more.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 - editing video from GoPro video camera

I am having a problem trying to edit video from the GoPro camera in Premiere Pro CS4 (PP). Have not been able to get much help from GoPro - they just tell me to speak with Adobe. I think the video codec used by the camera is MJPEG (?). It won't play at all on the timeline. Interestingly it will in After Effects (AE) CS4 and if I export it out of AE as a Microsoft AVI file I can then play it in PP. However if I go straight to Media Encoder and import the clip and then try export the clip via ME as a Microsoft AVI the exported clip from ME won't play in Premiere Pro. I am confused. Does anyone know this camera, it's codec and why it just won't work when directly imported into Premiere Pro but it will when imported directly into After Effects. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Please see a post I made this morning under my screen name BruceERoberts .... details below
I just purchase Adobe Premiere Pro a few days ago - and subsequently updated it to Ver 4.2.1.  A started a new project - I tried to import some video footage I just shot with a GOPro Hemet Cam while skiing at our local mountain.  I can easlily see the clip using Real Media Player - or the Quick Time player.  It is a 10.9 MB ... 7 second MPEG-4 movie clip.  File name is "gopro0030.mp4"
I created a "bin" called video .... then right clicked to import the file.  You can see the file name in the media browser.  But the file would not import.  I received this error message:  "109C ImporterProcessServer.exe  Application Error.  The instruction at "0x05efcac" referenced memory at "0x00000014".  The memory could not be read. CLick OK to terminate."
This is very frustrating - I just purchased the software - and it won't import a 7 second video clip!  It did import still fotos with no problem.  What can I do?
thank you for your attention to this.

  • Premiere pro CS4+media encoder CS4 problem encoding to WMV and MOV

    Hello,
I am new to CS4. I lurked around the meanders of CS4 help and FAQ. In spite of the large help database I could not find a solution to my issue.
I edited a little movie from shots I took during holidays. I edited in premiere pro cs4 and it is a bit faster than CS3 <yoohoo>
However I want to export the movie as NTSC source to high quality download. In the Expot settings,  I wrote a file output of course so it can encode and compile the movie somewhere on my HDD and I did not touch anything in standad NTSC source to high quality download values and tabs. In the end the movie should be around 848 mega.
I press OK, then Media Encoder pops up on screen. my project comes automatically in Media Encoder which is neat so I just had to click on start Queue but here is my problem...
I can wait for 4 hours or more, Media Encoder status states Encoding but nothing moves forward. Elapsed time remains at 00:00:00, Estimated Remaining remains blank.
Although something triggered my attention when I widen Media Encoder Source Name tab. It sounds like my project from Premiere Pro is placed in a temporary folder instead of using the regular save project file folder in ...>adobe>premiere pro>4>sebsofie2010b which strange.
I try to place a picture of my issue and perhaps it will help everyone.
This picture was taken about 1 hour and half after I tried to encode the movie for the fifth time.
    The status quotes "Encoding"...
Thanks in advance for any help

    Hello,
This is Song to an Illiad. I had to change Email address and password as I am switching provider soon.
So Ok to bypass the issue at that time, I simply transfered all files to a jumpdrive and re-did the composition at a friend house. Although my problem persist and Thank you for the Wiki link it was helpful. Sherlock free ware discovered several erronous Codec. Do not ask me why, how, when please. I do not toy around with codecs and all I do is update software but I have several software going from Adobe to Autodesk series as well as Nero Light version that came with my Dvd burner.  Should I also mention I play video games when down time permits, as such I updated several time the DirectX software. Beside this, what is it called... Dvix or Xvid, well something like that... prompted me about 2 months ago to update to a newer version which I did. Finally I installed a freeware to export an avi type to another found on Cnet.com a few months ago as the file could be seen in Premiere pro but there were no Audio track seen in premiere while the client gave me his camcorder and I knew there should be an audio track, it was a sort of camcorder that records on a memory sticks which is why the camera was small. It was a canon but nothing more detailed than that. Anyway, I had the camera with no drivers whatsoever and I had a hard time to find the driver for free online which is why I found a freeware or perhaps was it a shareware or a trial (I am not sure), anyway it decoded and re-encoded the movie which it did successfully with lots of image loss quality but it was succesful. I know I deliberatly threw the shareware or trial straight in the garbage once I was done because I do not want this kind of junk on my PC. Perhaps could it be the issue with Media Encoder not able to start?!?!
Here comes a couple of texts Copy/Past & image to describe what Sherlock found

What should I do? Can I just reinstall the codec from my Adobe CS4 Production Suite (Without) creating more issues and problems? It seemed the Wiki hints were helpful to pin point a problem but not always at giving solution.
    Thanks in advance,
    Seb
P.S: Could Adobe throw a little software to download to ensure all codecs are what they should be like and prompt user to reinstall straight from our Dvds? It would be soo much easier that way.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 - Problem with the monitor program.

Hi. I'm not able solving problems with the monitor using PremiereProCS4. When I drag a photo (also only one photo) in the timeline and play it in the monitor program, vision in the monitor program doesn't run:black monitor or a little part of the photo appear... sometimes distort colours. Dear Bill,
thanks for your answer and your article. I tried with your NTSC 4:3 720x480 PAR 0.9 and, "magically", no more problem!!! I used the script pocedure in Photoshop CS4 to resize my images. Now, before starting my workflow and hoping not to overuse your patience, I would like to indicate you my equipment and my target: I use a Canon Eos 7D (generally for still images, 90% are vertical, and just some videos) and I use Premiere Pro CS4 to burn a dvd (normal, 4.7 Gb or double side, more than 8 Gb) with a 16.9 lcd tv (I'm Italian); my camera save as .jpg and .raw (but why use heavy .raw files if I've to redute to 720x480?!??).
So, according to your "everyone wants the highest quality that they can obtain when doing theri videos..." and "your video project may vary, so you will need to plug in the dimensions for YOUR video project in that case", I've a question: which is the best for me?
    And then:
1 - Premiere Pro CS4 havn't a batch or a script procedure for still image like PS (only for videos)!?!
2 - Premiere does'nt allow you to import images like 4.181 Kb (a too large dimension file error appears)!
3 - In the timeline of Premiere, after you dragged images, you can select them and right click to perform "resize to frame size": it seems to run good without problem, but what appen to the photo? Which is it's pixel?
4 - In the general preferences of Premiere you can to optimize rendering for "memory" or not: which is the best for you?
5 - I attached file with a screen of something strange in Premiere: dragging an image (the first of the project) in the timeline, the timeline appears distort (you can see the part in the yellow square): then, when I render the project and play in the monitor program, it becames normal.
    Thanks!

  • Kodak videos lag in Premiere Pro CS4 timeline

    Hey all,
Apperently there's a bug in Adobe Premiere Pro which makes it difficult to edit videos that were captured in a Kodak camera.
This issue was discussed here before, but even after reading all threads in the subject I could not solve the problem.
I've been trying to convert these files (.mov) to many other formats and codecs with no success.
After a while I got to find this crappy software that claims to specialize in converting Kodak's video files (iOrgSoft Video Converter).  Between many tries of various softwares that was the only one that did  it right. But the software isn't free. The trail version leaves a  watermark on the each video.
Here are the details of the input file (stright from kodak Z950 camera):

I'm looking for another way to convert this file correctly so it will work well in Premiere.
Does anyone have any idea about this?
    Thanks in advance,
    -Moshe.

    Hi,
If CS5 handles this right than I  guess that's about it.
Thanks again for both of you.
This is CS3...with the mainconcept plug in trial ....as mentioned earlier...your original source loaded GREAT into the project...and plays great...etc....
The plug in trial gives that logo thing and has a limit of 5min video I think....although I've exported stuff with this and the logo was NOT on the final export...or was much smaller .....dont know if that would influence you on trying the plug in...
But what I mean to say is with cs3 it works great with the original file you supplied as a sample...
( I used this in another thread here where someone was trying to get timecode to run backwards...which is why you see that timecode thing...)
    good luck with everything !

  • Premiere Pro CS4 and Canon 600d problems

    Hello,
Recently I've been having a few recourring problems when trying to edit footage I captured on my Canon 600D on Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.
The footage shot on the Canon is 1920x1080 at 24fps, when I create a setup preset for these settings in Premiere the clips appear to import absolutely fine. The setup Ive created is shown in the screenshot below.
The problems start when I place the clip on the sequence and render it, once the clip renders the playback in the program/timeline preview window goes all weird and doesn't play the clip properly. Shown in the screenshot below.
First of all I thought this might just be a playback error but when I try to export it as a video file it says error and closes down. This is extremely irratating so i wondered if anyone would be able to offer me a soloution. I have a feeling it may be my setup preset but if so would someone be able to tell me the correct way to set it up for a canon 600d camera because whenever I try a preset found within premiere it exports the video at 720 resolution and very low quality.
Thanks very much for whoever replies, I appreciate it very much
    Mike

Ahhh okay that sucks, is there anyway to convert the footage that I already have without drastically reducing the quality as I want my film to be the best quality that is possible?

  • Premiere Pro CS4 on Mac: Can't play media anymore

    Hi experts,
I'm in huge trouble with my Premiere Pro CS4 (latest version, all updates installed) on the Mac platform:
Until I tried to record an audio track with the built-in microphone, everything worked fine. But since then, Premiere Pro is unsuable . It won't play  any media file (video or audio) anymore: whenever I try to start the playback (no matter what media and no matter in which monitor) Premiere just does nothing at all.
The problem exists since Premiere Pro crashed when I tried to record audio with the built in mic. I can reproduce the crash when ever I try to capture audio again: the error message points to line 2329 in the module "CoreAudioHost.cpp" (to be precise: /Ironside/4.0/MediaCore/MediaLayer/AudioSupport/Macke/Mac/../../Src/Mac/CoreAudioHost.cpp -2329)
I reinstalled the application but the problem still exists. And I checked all the settings in the preferences panel -- but they seem to be alright.
I really have no idea what to do. Hopefully, anybody of you has?
Any help would be gladly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Bob,
no, it's not a Beta, it's the full version of PPro as it comes bundled within my Master's Collection of CS4. And I'm not using any 3rd party plugins either.
I don't think that the file is present on our machines, Bob. The file extension ".cpp" seems to me like a reference to the source code file (written in the programming language C++, since this is what "cpp" stands for). I have a programming background, and therefore I think, the error message isn't meant to be useful for the end user (like us) but for the engineers while they're developing.
But today, I could narrow down my problem a bit. The playback is working again: the problems were caused by some messed up audio *output* settings. I think, PPro messed them up when it crashed several times. I reset them all and now the playback works fine again.
However, I still can't record: neither with Soundbooth CS4 nor with PPro. The software won't recognize my *input* settings. The error message I gave in my previous post still occurs as soon as I press the little microphone button in PPro's Audio Mixer. And Soundbooth just does *nothing* at all when I try to record. But every other tool (iMovie, Audacity) works fine with my Mac.
As a workaround, I record my audio with Audacity, import the file to PPro and be up and running. But if somebody of you has faced similar problems, I would appreciate your solutions.
    Regards and Thank you

  • Premiere Pro CS4 over remote desktop does not play sequence

    Hi all,
I have been researching this issue over the internet but I have found absolutely no references to it:
I am running Premiere Pro CS4 on my high-resource PC but would like to work from a different room so I am remoting form my laptop to my "good" PC.
The system lets me do everything I could normally do when working directly on the main PC with the exception of playing back my edited files (before rendering). This is an obvious handicap since I can not watch my edited sequence and am, therefore, working in the blind. I am able to step through it frame by frame, but when I click the play button, it changes to a pause symbol (as usual) but nothing is shown in the video window. This does not just happen when previewing my edited sequence but also when previewing any imported resource.
Essentially, Premiere Pro CS4 is not playing any video content over a Remote Desktop.
Other normal playback software (such as VLC, Windows Media Player etc...) works though, so it is not an issue of no video playback at all. This just happens when I'm using Premiere Pro.
Any suggestions as to what this may be? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I was able to edit a full 1080p HD video in Premiere Pro CS5 remotely using HPs RGS (Remote Graphics Software).  I had a Workstation at work with Premiere Pro installed on it and all the source footage on it.  I was then able to log on remotely from home with my old weak-sauce desktop and successfully edit and play back the HD footage remotely.  You just do a google search for HP RGS or go to this link. http://h20331.www2.hp.com/hpsub/cache/286504-0-0-225-121.html
There is a free trial available too. I don't know why there is not more information about RGS on the web, but it seems to me to be the only solution to work on Premiere or After Effects remotely.
    I hope this helps
