Problem Printer Ignoring Altered Printing Preferences

I have a PhotoSmart B209a wireless printer.  When I print, all printing preferences are being ignored and all printing is being done to the default settings.  For example, I want to print a photo, so I select boderless photo, premium plus phot paper, best resolution.  The printer prints at low resolution on plain paper (the default settings).  If I change the default settings to photo paper and high resolution and then print the photo, comes out just fine.  So, to sum up all settings that are cahnged from the print dialogue box are ignored.
Any ideas?

A supervisor from HP that called me said I had no right to make these changes with a office printer and that I should have bought their photo style printer!
Thanks for the info.  I have been trying to gather more information on this issue and was starting to believe that is was only affecting Windows 7 x64 systems.  It would seem that it affects 32 bit systems as well.  So far all the posts are Windows 7 systems.

  • Printing Preferences Ignored

    Hello!
I'm frustrated and hoping someone can shed some light on my problem. I deal with converting hundreds of Excel files to PDF at a time. I have a Macro for mass-formatting all of them to a certain standard (Page Width of 1, etc). I also have a VBA macro for printing them all to PDF. This macro opens each Excel, and just prints the complete workbook to PDF.
The problem I have is with the Adobe Acrobat X PDF print settings. I go into the "Adobe PDF Printing Preferences" and set it to print to a certain output folder and not display the print results. However, this is completely ignored when I start the actual printing. It immediately prompts me for a location to save to and then displays the PDF after it's done printing. This is simply not practical for printing hundreds of PDFs at a time.
There has to be a way to batch print all these Excel files in their entirety! When I tried the actual batch printing option within Acrobat X, it just freezes and I get a warning about how Windows DEP (Data Execution Prevention) prevented it. If I try to print any other way then only the first sheet of each workbook is converted.
If these files are printing from the "Adobe PDF" printer, then why is it not applying the settings that I chose?
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hi,
Please follow these steps.Hope your problem would be solved.
1.Go to the path "Control Panel->Devices and Printers->Adobe PDF."
                     2.Right click on "Adobe PDF".
                     3.Click on "Printing Preferences".
4.Set "Adobe PDF Output Folder" path and uncheck "View Adobe PDF Result".
                     5.Click Ok.
                     6.Start Printing.
Please get back to me if you find any problem with this.

  • Problem with Printing Preferences Acrobat XI on Windows 7

I just upgraded from Acrobat X Std to XI Pro on both my Windows 7 desktop and Windows 8 laptop.  The laptop works fine, but on the desktop I'm not able to print to the Adobe PDF printer from Word or Excel or Chrome.  I noticed that the Adobe PDF Printing Preferences do not display any options for Default Settings or Adobe PDF Security.  I did find the Standard.joboptions file in the C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings folder on both machines.  What could be the problem?

No files appeared in C:\Users\Pavilion\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings but they did appear in Distiller.
I tried to copied them from C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Settings, but found they were already there.  I copied them by adding -COPY before .joboptions in the name.  Now they appeared in  Printing Preferences with the -COPY added.
I tested a print from Word (using File / Print), but was not prompted for the filename or location.  I checked my entire system and couldn't find the PDF file anywhere.  I tried changing the Port to Desktop\*.pdf using Printer Properties, but that didn't work either.
I was able to successfully use the Acrobat menu item in Word & Excel to create a PDF but it automatically created the file on the Desktop without an option to change the filename.
After several days and hours, I gave up and installed Acrobat X on the W7 computer.  I can still use Acrobat XI on the W8 computer.  So be it!
Thanks anyway for your attempts to help.

  • Print Preferences handled differently in Windows 7 than XP causing problems for customer locations

Customers use web based application that they run only in Internet Explorer (both 8 or 9).   Many of them have a label printer and a report printer attached to the same computer.  In Windows XP this was not a problem.  But with Windows 7 you
can designate the printer you want to print to from the application but Internet Explorer uses the print preferences for the default printer no matter which printer you choose.  Obviously this causes a problem due to the different sizes of paper on the
    two printers.
Any ideas for a solution or work around?  Having all customers go back to Windows XP is not an option!

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond.  Printer drivers for Windows 7 have been installed correctly.  It doesn't matter what brand printers are involved.  The label printer is the one that has the smaller page size obviously -- brand can
be Cognitive, Godex or Zebra.  All respond the same way.  If you have the 8 1/2 x 11 printer set to the default printer but you want to print to the label printer about 5 or 6 labels spit out because it is trying to print 8 1/2 x 11 instead of 2.0
x 2.4.  It works the opposite way if the label printer is set to the default.  If you have the label printer set to the default it will print a tiny report on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper on the report printer.  In this example it is a Canon,
but it doesn't matter what brand the report/invoice printer is.  Keep in mind this is choosing the printer from Internet Explorer that you want to print to and even confirming that the printer preferences show correctly from the printer dialogue window
in IE.  This is using IE9 but it happens in 8 as well.  It DOES NOT happen in Microsoft Word, Chrome or Mozilla.  I just sent a 2.0 x 2.4 Word document to the label printer when the default printer was set to the Canon and it print just fine.
I also sent a regular size document to the Canon with the label printer (RT200) set as the default.  It also printed normal size.  A person should be be able to attach 2 printers to a computer and print to either one from Internet Explorer
and have it use the print preferences assigned to their chosen printer regardless of whether it is set as the default or not.  We developed our web-based application to use Internet Explorer so there are other issues that keep us from using another browser
--our customers are told that we only support IE, but if this doesn't get resolved we might have to change that.
Thank you for any help you are able to provide.

  • WGM Printer Preference Problem

I manage a school mac lab environment with about 5 labs of 30 macs total per lab. Each lab has a designated HP LaserJet 8100 series network printer in it. The printer is setup on a Windows Server and I can print to it successfully via LDP.
What my problem is. When I set which printers are default in WGM through the Printing Preferences. I set what printers are in the list and what printer is default. I also unchecked the:
    - Allow user to modify the printer list
    - Allow Printer that connect directly to users computer
When I log into the lab machines they are not getting the list of printers or even the default printer. The printer list is just empty. The strange thing is. The Printer Setup Utility window is being managed and does not allow users to modify the printer list like it should. So it seems I'm getting part of it to work.
This used to work in the past for me just fine, but ever since 10.4+ I've been having troubles.
My Band-Aid solution is to setup the printer list on the machine and use WGM to just choose the default from that list. This has worked just fine for a while, but we are changing to a different print server soon and I don't want to have to reset the printer lists on each machine locally in order to make this change. It is not easy to gain access to all these machines due to class schedules. So I would prefer this to work like it used to. In the past all I had to do is change the list in WGM and once all the Mac's logged out and back in we were set to go.
Has anyone had this problem? I'm out of ideas...

    Hi
You’ve had this posted for some time without much success.
I manage a school mac lab environment with about 5
labs of 30 macs total per lab. Each lab has a
designated HP LaserJet 8100 series network printer in
it. The printer is setup on a Windows Server and I
can print to it successfully via LDP.
I think your problem starts here really. The printers should really be part of OSX Server’s Print Service for the rest of it to work as you want it.
This used to work in the past for me just fine, but
ever since 10.4+ I've been having troubles.
There were fundamental changes from Panther to Tiger – if this is what you mean. For example watchdog was replaced with launchd. That said Apple expanded greatly on what was available in 10.3 Print Service. In 10.4 directly attached printers (USB etc) can be accessed as if they were network printers, this was not available in 10.3 The addition of Printer Pools (groups of similar or like printers acting as one Printer Queue) means print jobs can be passed on to the next printer in the pool that has not run out of paper or ink.

  • Ignoring Printing Preferences

In the "printing Preferences-Features" of my F2430 printer if I check the box for "Flip Page Up" the documents print to actually flip sideways. Or if I uncheck the "Flip Page Up" box, it does the opposite.  In other words, the "Flip Page Up" box does the opposite of it's function.
And, what does the "Preserve Layout" box really mean?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Sorry for my ignorance but i'm having problems printing

    Hi
I am very new to indesign and to print graphics.  I am not new to web graphics.
I am having problems printing a document that I have created in InDesign CS5.  Now I have learnt that I need to calibrate stuff with ICC profiles but I am not sure what I am doing.
Do i need to create aan ICC profile for my monitor and printer?
How do I get these to worl with InDesign?
I suppose I need to tell you what is going on.   When I print my document which is mostly different shades of grey, most of the different grey shades are nearly black and I can only just see the differentces in shades between the grays.  Now on my monitor they are distinctly different and can easily be seen.
So what steps do I nee dto get these colours right?
    Cheers

For good reproduction you need an accurate monitor profile (this is done with a colorimeter or spectrophotometer --that's overkill for just the monitor, but it can do the printer, too -- and profiling software) and an output profile for the printer and paper combination. The industry standard EyeOne colorimeter package is around $200, the spectrophotometer will cost quite a bit more.
There are services that will profile your printer for you, too, but learing to do it yourself will cost less over the long haul if you are really serious about the output quality. In theory you need to recalibrate and profile printers on a regular basis, especially when you change ink or toner. Out here in the real world, though, I suspect most of us who are not producing commercial color output just do it once and live with it until the results are no longer acceptable and the profiles need to be updated. I proof for internal use on my color laser, for example, and it hasn't been re-profiled for about three years. It no longer matches waht I see on the monitor exactly, but it's still fairly close and the prints are for my own use. I always get a proof from the printer when it's time to go to press.
Of course not all monitors and not all printers are created equal. Some monitors are incapable of showing fine gradtions in sahding in the dark or very light grays, and many, if not most, printers can't capture all of the shades you can see on screen.
For any given printer resolution, such as a 600 dpi printer, the higher the linescreen value used to print, the lower the number of shades that can actually be produced. Halftone spots (which is what are used to fool you into seeing gray using only black ink) are made up of groups of printer dots, and you can't print half a printer dot, so, for example, 600 dpi printer outputting at 100 lines per inch linescreen, uses about 36 printer dots to make each halftone spot (it might be a little different because the shape of the halftone spot is seldom a square). The best you can get from 36 printer dots is 37 levels (no dots to all dots), so the best you can hope for is about 3% steps.
Add in dot gain, the spread of ink or toner as it's absorbed into the paper and which is more prominent at darker shades, and your shadows tend to plug up, and the very light shades may not show at all. Less than 5% dot, for example is extremely hard to print on most lasers.
A really good book on the subject is Real World Scanning and Halftones, and a great book on color management in general is Real World Color Management.

  • Adobe PDF Printing Preferences Problem

We have seven Windows 7 64 bit machines with Adobe Pro XI (part of the Technical Communication Suite).  On one machine, we are unable to modify the Adobe PDF Printing Preferences Settings for the following two items:
Adobe PDF Security:  It is grayed out and we are unable to edit. No selections are available from the dropdown.
Adobe PDF Folder:  While not grayed out and we are unable to edit and no selections are available from the dropdown.  On all the other computers, this is listed as "Adobe PDF Output:"
What do we need to do on this one computer, so we can edit the two line items?
I removed the printer from the machine, and ran the Repair function from Acrobat.  I have changed the Default Settings: section several times.  That did not resolve the issue.  I suspect it may be a difference in the actual driver.  Any suggestions?
Message was edited by: Dave Maslowski Added screen shot.

Log on as the local Administrator of the machine.  This does not mean the network admin account or workgroup admin account.  It means the Administrator/Owner of the local machine ( Log in using built in-administrator | Create local administrator account | Windows 7, 8, Vista ) .  Are you able to access these features when logged in as the local machine administrator?  If yes, then this is an account permissions issue probably correctable.  If no, then you have a machine permissions issue, which is more serious.

  • Numbers not obeying printer preferences

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem. When I set my printing preferences (in System Preferences->Print & Fax) to default to a particular printer (or "Last Printer Used"), all of my applications obey the selected rule except Numbers.
Numbers seems to be in love with one of my printers such that every time I print, that particular printer is automatically selected in the print dialog box. It is quite annoying to have to select my printer every time when other applications choose the printer specified in my System Preferences.
I tried trashing my Numbers preference file and the system level printer preference files and no joy.
Anyone have a suggestion as to what I should try next?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info Peggy. It's kind of shame the program behaves this way. I really like the way Apple has improved the system level printing functions such that programs choose the default printer based on the setting in System Preferences. I can't figure out why Pages and Numbers were designed to ignore this preference given that they were developed in-house. I guess I'll submit feedback and hope that they will change this behavior such that it is consistent with other applications.

  • EPrint Apps, printing Preferences on an HP Officejet Pro 8600 wireless prntr

I have a fabulous HP Officejet 8600 series wireless printer that is connected to my home network.  It works beautifully and efficiently!  So far, I've had no issues or problems with it, except for one little tweak that I would prefer to adjust if it is at all possible.  Can I set the print preferences so that when my Apps are printed (either as a scheduled app, or printed directly from the screen on the printer itself) so that they will print on BOTH SIDES OF THE PAPER???  And/or in DRAFT setting, with print on both sides, and with multiple pages per sheet??  I like to use these settings as often as possible to save on paper and ink and the like.   I usually only use the optimal print preferences when its time to produce an essay for school or a flyer or something like that.  If anyone can assist me, I would really appreciate it!!  And... I hope that my question makes sense ;D!!!  Thank you!! Jenni

  • Cannot change my printer preferences

    Dear Hp technicians:
Hi I'm from Mexico and I just loged in to my hp e-print center and it took me here. My problem is I find it really difficult to log in from my country coz' hp connected doesn't work, it simply just don't let my Log in.      I found that visiting hp connected-uk is the only way to log  in. But then,  I'm loged in, but I cannot change my printer preference coz' the button  doesn't exist, the one that used to say "Change setting"  is now just simple text.  How can I go back to e-print center instead of HP connected..... Please this is driving me crazy!

  • Problem printing duplex even though it's saved in the Crystal Report.

    I'm using VS.NET 2010 with Crystal Reports 13.0.10.1385
We have a set of Crystal Reports that were created with Crystal 8.5 and they print duplex and the printer and printer preferences are saved with each Crystal Report.
The problem is this, I'm pulling in these reports to my VS.NET 2010 Project using Crystal Report Viewer and it will not keep the printer preferences when you print the report.  Why, it works using VB6.0?  The only way I can get it to print duplex is to manually set the printer preferences before printing the report.

    Hi Bill,
Update the reports to CR 2011 or above then that info should be saved. If not add this line of code to your app:
rpt.PrintOptions.PrinterDuplex = PrinterDuplex.Default; // you can change the last value
Or if using RAS use this:
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.PrintOptions RASPO = new CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.PrintOptions();
    RASPO.PrinterDuplex = CrPrinterDuplexEnum.crPrinterDuplexSimplex;
And comparing RDC to .NET doesn't work. RDC used COM and DEVMODE, .NET uses the System.Printer API set.

  • HP Photosmart Premium: can no longer see printer preferences

I have successfully used my HP Photosmart Premium for the past 2 years.  I am printing from a Win7 computer/64-bit.
Unfortunately, within the past month (?) I noted that I can no longer access the option for "Print Preferences"... which means I can no longer print photos, adjust whether I want color ink used when printing BLACK, etc. I am stuck with default.
I've seen other threads on this but didn't see my combo so just want to know what to do. I tried rebooting both the computer and printer and I still can't print photos or utilize preferences. HELP!

    Hello Miss_Understood,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to open the printer preferences on your computer. I will do my best to assist you! Please run this tool called the Microsoft Fix it. What it fixes:
You are unable to install a printer, connect to a printer, or print more than one job at a time
You receive an error indicating your Print Spooler service is experiencing problems
You receive an error indicating your <PRINTERNAME> is not the default printer
You receive an error indicating: <PRINTERNAME> cannot be contacted over the network
Identify if your printer is turned off
Identify if your printer toner is low or empty causing your print job to appear faint or it does not print at all
Identify if your printer paper is low or empty
Identify if the printer has a paper jam which is preventing it from operating normally
Identify if a print job that is in the print queue is preventing other print jobs from printing
Identify if you need to update your print driver
You receive an error stating that your Plug and Play printer %PRINTERNAME% has encountered a driver problem
If this doesn't resolve your issue, then try uninstalling the software by following this HP document here.
Next, you want to clean out your Temp folder by following this document here.
Now, perform a clean boot on your computer by following this Microsoft document here. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program. Once this is complete, please use the printer install wizard to install the software.
Please post your results. Have a good night!

  • Officejet pro 8500 a909g, limited user accounts can't use printing preferences

The above discription explains most of it. I had install this 8500 printer, then shortly after, uninstalled the other two older  printers I was previously using. That is when the problem started. I can not access printing preferences from a document or from control panel\printer and faxes. But I am able to access from the administrater account. I did an online chat with HP help and what we did made sence, but did not work. We went into the security tab in properties and added the limited user account for all permissions and reboted the computer. Did not work!!!!    I have a dell laptop, windows xp pro, and the printer software is now uninstalled.    the window that pops up when I click on properties is: Function address 0x50085a97 caused a protection fault. (exception code 0x0000005) Some or all property pages may no be displayed. I don not have this problem as an administrater only as a limited user.

I had this similar problem.  Installed this printer a few months back and for some time it was printing fine.  Recently, I changed the default preferences to black/white, draft, low ink etc etc.  Now if I click on the Properties I get this same window:
*** (x50085a97 caused protection fault (exception code 9xc0000005 some or all property pages could not be displayed) ***.
Running XP on an Dell Intel Pentium and it happens irrespective of the application I am using - usually firefox or staroffice.  9 times out of 10 I can't change the properties, but occasionally it allows me too then reverts back.  So now I am stuck with everything printing black/white as that's the default I set!  Any suggestions welcome.

  • Problems Printing to HP 2610 All-in-one

    Hi Folks,
First off, I'm a Windows person so please don't assume I know the internals of OS-X very well (my wife is the Mac user, but is not the household "techie"). That said...
When we try to print documents to the HP 2610 All-in-one (USB connected directly to her G4), the print dialog comes up looking "almost" normal. The bottom of the print dialog only offers a "?", "Supplies.." and "Cancel" (but the left half of the cancel button is chopped off). "Send FAX Now" (greyed out) is also there. No print button! "Supplies" offers to sell me ink cartidges and "cancel" of course cancels the print job. Where is the "Print" button and how do I get it back?
System preferences, System Profiler shows the printer as available, the default, USB and running HP driver version 7.3.0 (the latest one HP offers and the one I installed after upgraging to OS-X 10.4.3) is 7.3.1). System Preferences, Printers also shows the printer as available and on a USB port.
I have tried printing from TextEdit, Office:X Word: Service Release 1 and AppleWorks 6 (6.2.2) and get the same messed up print dialog.
