Problem printing booklet to Postscript file to PDF (Mac)

I am running Mac OSX 10.7.5 and InDesign CC 9.2.1
I am trying to export a booklet to a PDF so I can send it to another machine to print.  I am going to File> Print Booklet and I am printing to a PostScript file. I am then opening it up in Preview and the orientation of the file is messed up.  Below are some screenshots.
So in File>Print Booklet> Preview it shows that I am perfectly inside the guidelines.  Notice it is in landscape mode.
Then I export it to a .ps file and open it up in Preview (note: I have also tried Acrobat IX Pro). And the file is messed up and in portrait mode.
From what I can tell it looks like InDesign is exporting the file in portrait instead of landscape but I can't change it in the InDesign Print Booklet settings because it is greyed out.
Any recommendations on how to fix this problem? Or workarounds so that I can export a booklet to a PDF?  I need to export it in 2-up saddle stitch mode, so I need page 1 to be next to page 12 and so on.
Thank you for the help!

You need to download and install the ADPDF9.PPD printer description and use it instead of Device Independent.

I am using Print Booklet from InDesign CS3, printing to a PostScript file.
I saw Apple Chancery in the log so I thought that might have been the problem. So I went back to Suitcase Fusion and activated Apple Chancery, with the same result.
I do note that Apple Chancery is a TrueType font. The other fonts in the publication are Arial family (OpenType TrueType) and Times Regular (TrueType). Preflight in ID CS3 indicates no problems, all fonts are OK, and none are protected.
Quit InDesign and re-launched. Same problem.

  • How do I print to a postscript file with InDesign CS6 without both extensions, .indd.ps?

How do I print to a postscript file without an .indd extension in InDesign CS6? I choose Print, choose a print preset from my print shop and Save. The first time I tried it was blank (the Hide Extension was checked), so I tried to save and got a dialog box that said it cannot be saved as an .indd file (duh), to choose both or .ps. I chose .ps and it was fine, but every time I postscripted it gave me this dialog box until I unchecked Hide Extension. After I did that, every time I postscript it automatically saves both extensions. Not a big deal but it is annoying. I just want it to end with .ps like it used to. Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks!!

I have no idea but I am incredibly curious...why are you doing this?
Printing to postscript is a completely archaic workflow. Export to PDF
    instead.

  • Problem Print Booklet / PS File

    Hello.
When I used "Print Booklet" and choose PS file / PPD Adobe, my PDF (with distiller) misses just the top and left bleed in my pdf. It was blank.
The problem is for less than A4 size.
My document is a 4 page booklet A6 (closed size).
    Thanks in advance.

Can I ask why you're using Print Booklet and using PS File/PPD?
This is an archaic way of making a PDF.
A couple of things to realise
The printer should do imposing, supply as pages 1-end in sequence, do not impose yourself.
Printing to PDF loses lots of PDF smartness, such as transparency, hyperlinks, and lots of other hidden details for printing goodness
If you need a PDF for yourself to print in house, why not send directly to your printer from InDesign using File>Print Booklet?
Otherwise, for your book use File>Export and choose PDF.
In Acrobat, choose the Print Booklet feature.https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/print-booklets-acrobat-reader.html

  • Problem saving pages documents as postscript files and pdf files

    Hello!
My problem occurs when the pages documents are saved as pdfs -they go 'screwy'. If you save as a pdf (through file, print, print as), the certain fonts show a holding maarker rather than spaces on the screen but prints fine. If you save as a postscript (file, print, print as) and convert to a pdf in Preview the fonts are fine on the screen but are blown out when it prints and are all over the page.
If anyone has any suggestions I am more than happy to try anything.
    Veronica

  • Print Booklet - OS X - PS to PDF with Preview, and a mysterious line?

    Hi,
I'm preparing something for print, and I've run into a couple of questions I'd love some advice on.
The printshop wants the A5 booklet as a A4+bleed PDF, so I'm producing 'Print Booklet' to a Postscript with the PDF PPD and using Apple's Preview to convert to PDF. Is Preview's conversion going to cause me any problems, for example any unwanted compression/other unpleasant surprises?
Upon conversion Preview is showing a hairline white gap between the now combined first and last page (see image below). In the original document the purple-ness extends beyond the 3mm bleed on the respective edge of both pages. I was wondering if anyone might have an idea why this would be the case?
    Thanks in advance,
    James

Hi, Your problem may be the creep setting. Set it to 0.  Also, I often encounter white hairlines (object boxes)  that come & go depending on the zoom setting. I've learned to trust they do not print at the print shop.
I have a questions to add to this.....
I just upgraded from SC2 to SC6 and swtiched from PC to Mac OS Lion (10.7). I'm having trouble with print booklet settings - I'd like to set to device independent, but it  won't seem to output on anything other than letter size; the settings to change paper size on device independent is greyed out). It will only print on letter size, meaning I only get the even pages of the booklet spreads. I too am a control freak and like to make sure everything is lined up perfectly before sending off to printer. I can get it to work if I use my home printer ppd (whimpy inkjet), but feel uncomfortable having it be dependent on that ppd as opposed to the professional printer ppd.
Our former printer imposed the pages from a pdf file... but our current printer wants it in booklet.
    Thanks -
    davyne

  • Converting Pages PostScript file to PDF

Can someone with a similar setup test this Pages PS file technique out and see if you can do it?
This was a tip from a Pages User/Blogger, as a way to get truer color printing of a Pages doc when moving it from the 3-color screen version to a four color commercial printer. He suggested saving the Pages file as Postscript, and then using Apple Preview, open and convert the Postscript to a PDF. I can't open the PS file with Preview, and it fails in the conversion to PDF. I get an error message: couldn't convert to a PDF/Couldn't open the file.
I contacted the Blogger; he was surprised it fails, given the long time use of PS and PDF files. He suggested that I ask someone with a set-up similar to mine to try this, and help me determine if it's my computer or the software that's failing (or me!). I'm working on a G-5, with OS 10.4.8, and Pages 2.02.
(Note, I've also tried doing this through Adobe Distiller, and that doesn't work either. That it fails in Preview seems to say to me that it's not just a problem with the version or settings in Adobe PRo/Distiller, but perhaps with Pages?).
    Thanks!

It turned out that my two posted issues were related. The table on page one that was raising havoc with header and footers was also causing the PS to PDF conversion problems as well. I still have to resolve the table issue, but at least you helped me recognize where the printing issue was coming from!

  • Printing Markups to Postscript file

I am using the latest Solaris version of Acrobat Reader (7.0.9) to print PDF files.  We use the -toPostscript and -markupsOn command line options to create PostScript files which we then send to lp.  This works fine unless there's a markup on the drawing which was added by Adobe Acrobat Professional.  The drawing prints fine but the markup is either so garbled as to be unreadable or doesn't show at all on the print.  The server is running Solaris 9 and the entire command line is as follows:<br />/usr/bin/acroread7.0.9 --display=ohi05:2 -toPostScript -size tabloid -shrink -markupsOn -level2 -pairs <file> <file><br />Any ideas?  Thanks.

    Hi George,
I am not able to reroduce the problem at my end.
What Acrobat version was used to create the markups?
Please send us the bugfile, if possible.

  • Problems Printing Booklet

    Hi there,
This is a new problem for me, never had this issue before.
I am creating a booklet in indesign and when I got to print booklet Indesign works like normal outputing the stuff but when it sends it to Adobe PDF 8.0 I get an error in the print window
    /usr/lbexec/cups/filter/pstops failed
Was wondering what the problem could be and how to fix this. I have two mac computers and they do the exact same thing.
    I am working in CS3
If someone could help me that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Never recommend fix permissions, it is just a waste of time. Adobe products do not use Installer.app.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452
Does Disk Utility check permissions on all files?
No. Files that aren't installed as part of an Apple-originated installer package are not listed in a receipt and therefore are not checked. For example, if you install an application using a non-Apple installer application, or by copying it from a disk image, network volume, or other disk instead of installing it via Installer, a receipt file isn't created. This is expected. Some applications are designed to be installed in one of those ways.

  • Problem with saving an Ai file to PDF in Illustrator CS4 Professional

Hello guys, I have an interesting problem.  The machine has Windows Vista Enterprise with the latest updates and office 2007 Pro+.  The version of adobe installed is Adobe CS4 Professional, in which has the Illustrator and Acrobat updated to the latest patches.  This has happened to the user over the weekend; all of the sudden when she tries to save an Ai file to PDF, it hangs not even bringing up the dialog box.  However, in all the other Adobe programs are able to save it as a PDF.    Now I am able to print from Illustrator into Acrobat, but it doesn't save it to a full sized "page".  I tried saving any Ai file to a different file and then try to save as a PDF....no dice.   This is the second time around where this has happened.  Now here is the kicker, since I'm an admin it will work like a charm under my login; the user is a restricted user (no admin rights).  I also changed the default printer for her, to a local printer.. (read somewhere about that)  no dice.  Any help would obviously be appreciated.  THX

Yup, that could also be possible.  Had a similar problem where the IE add-in for Adobe Reader did not work anymore. And I had to get a patch from MS for office.  And it was only available by request only.

  • Missing page while converting Postscript files to PDF using Distiller 9.

    Hi
Due to some incorrect hexadecimal code in the post script, one of the pages is not getting created in the full pdf. So, we can say that the page is missing in the complete pdf file.
Here is my snapshot of the issue:
    1. Offending command issue on a particular post script data is coming up due to some incorrect hexadecimal data.
    2. If I run the postscript through Distiller 8, report is getting generated without any missing data.
    3. Whereas, if I run it throught Distiller 9.1.3, Distiller is ignoring the page due to following warning.
%%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: xshow ]%%
    Stack:
    41
    ( À
    4. If I run the same Postscript file in Distiller 9.3 (latest version), issue is going away.
    5. But I have another Report pdf with the same  issue but this time with a different hexadecimal exception.
%%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: xshow ]%%
    Stack:
    49
    (à ø&#127;À ø&#127;À øÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ þÿ€ þÿ€ þÿ€ þÿÀ þ&#127;À þ&#127;à þ&#127;ø?þ?ÿÿþ?ÿÿþ ÿÿþ ÿÿþ ÿýþ ÿùþ?ð&#127;à ø&#127;À ø&#127;À øÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ þÿ€ þÿ€ þÿ€ þÿÀ þ&#127;À þ&#127;à þ&#127;ø?þ?ÿÿþ?ÿÿþ ÿÿþ ÿÿþ ÿýþ ÿùþ ü%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
So, either way, even if I upgrade my version of Acrobat from 9.1.3 to 9.3, issue doesnt go away. I think the new Acrobat Distiller is buggy and introducing new problems when compared to Acrobat Distiller 9.
    1. Works fine Distiller 8.0
    2. More problems with 9.1.3
    3. Lesser problems with 9.3 but I cant upgrade to 9.3 unless i see all the missing page problem going away.
Can someone urgently look into this?
    Regards
    Hari

I am calling Distiller using command line.
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrodist.exe" /f/Q/N C:\Reporter\debug\report.dst
report.dst contains the the names of the post script files.
(I have already contacted Distiller server forum and I was told to post the request in Acrobat forum)

  • Problem exporting booklet with tab dividers to pdf

Hi, I have an Indesign document that has different page sizes (because some pages have tab dividers). I need to export it to pdf as a booklet, however I've found some problems:
    - When I choose the "Spreads" option, the page 2 is facing the page 3 but I need the document as a booklet, so the page 2 sould be facing the one that is before the last page).
    - When I choose the "pages" option and then select the "booklet" option in Acrobat Pro, for some reason there's a big space between the 2 pages (the size of each page is like 1/4 of a letter size page). I mean, the 2 pages are not
    - As I said before, some pages have tab dividers so, when I'll print it, I have to cut the tabs that are not usefull in each page. However the document is a booklet, so I need that the page behind the one I'm cutting has it's information adjusted so I don't lose some of the data.
I would really appreciate any help you can give me.

For professionell printers ist is not a problem. If you wnat to give it away for printing, don't impose it yourself. Deliver the pdf with single pages and bleed and communicate with the printer. Imposing is their job.
I would not use the booklet funktion inside InDesign.
For your case, when you need to print it on a Laser Printer, I would use the print booklet function in Acrobat Pro.
Problem is here for you, that the pages have different sizes. If you have no plans to give it to a printer make all pages to the same size and cut it later. If you need both, create an alternative Layout with same sized pages and us the second one for Laser Printing.

  • Convert a Postscript file to PDF

    Hi,
I would like to know how to convert a postscript file residing on the application server, convert it to PDF and send it to a printer. What are the steps involve? Are there any function modules I can use?
    Thanks.

    hi,
Could you explain how I can generate/create a spool? I'm new to this and I'm still learning. I know that when i sent something to the printer, the spool is generated and I can view the spools in SP01. Are you saying that I can call some kind of function to generate a spool? If so, how do I do that?
    Thanks.

  • Print Services : How to Print to a (Postscript) File ???

    Hi Forum,
for quite a while I'm thinking about migrating our print server to Mac OS X Server, unfortunately I could not find a way to easily create and manage multiple "Pritn-to-File" queues.
More precisely: what I would need is the ability to create Postscript spoolers on OSX Server which would just operatelike a virtual Printer, showing up on the network as shared but having no real printer on the other side! Just receiving the Postscript files (without limitations on size, media and colors) and dropping it into a predefined Folder on the Server. Sounds so easy...
Thanks in adavance for any help!

First the USB stick needs to be formatted in a format the frame can see. That is usually FAT32, the Windows and mostly Universal format (It probably already is formatted like that).
Next is what photo cataloging and editing program are you using? If it is iPhoto you need to Export the image or images you want to place on that card/stick. Not sure how that is done exactly as I don't use iPhoto but it is one of the menu item options (Could be under the File menu item).
Then during the export it should ask you where you want to exprt them TO. you would browse to the USB stick and select it. If it Auto places them on your dekstop then use Finder to coy and paste them from your desktop to the USB stick. Or you can try Drag & Drop (I personally never use that as I've never like it) from the Desktop to the USB stick.

  • Hp lazerjet m1212 problem printing from Vista, Acrobat files

My printer is installed and printing everything except Acrobat files, from internet files and local files.
I have installed the latest Acrobat Reader X and I received the same error message as the previouse versions.
Message: Before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer.
I can see the printer in setup?
    Mickie

This isn't for Vista, but may help.
Please note that on the PC, you need to use a postscript driver, since the printer queue on a Mac expects to receive postscript (the Apple Color LaserWriter xx is good, or some HP Color Laserjet (postscript)).
