Problem Printing to HP laserjet 4 plus via a parallel-usb adapter
This generic parallel-usb adapter cable worked fine on a Sony laptop printing to HP laserjet 4 plus, but when I tried to do the same with the Mac book pro (2.4 ghz mac 10.4.10), the printer is recognized and it prints but only in a faded fashion (as if it is draft printing). I looked in the control panel on the printer and tried to make a couple adjustments, but that didn't help. The cable's page said it had mac 8.2 or whatever support. It did come with some drivers disc but it is too small to work in the mac (not a standard size cd).
I would apreciate some help in this matter.

Hi Moorty
Hi wm300
I have connected a HP LaserJet 4L to Mac OS X 10.3.9 using a Keyspan parallel to USB adaptor cable. You will require the same hardware setup. It is more than a connector, the cable it has a small converter card in it.
Keyspan parallel USB printer adaptor
You already have such a similar cable.
Your problem seems to be the right driver.
remove the printer then Add it again and decide which driver you want to use.
Your model HP will work with the drivers available in OS X, HP LaserJet 4MP, or the old driver downloaded from the HP website for the LJ4/4M will also work.
A new driver for it will also work available here
http://buymelunch.org/printing/usbtb/
So once connected to a USB port, your Mac will see it, load the right driver, and the printer should work.

Print to HP LaserJet 4mp via ethernet on Snow Leopard
Well, after tons of research I have ended up printing thru my OLD mac via shared printer on the network. But I would hope there is a better way. I have a Mac Pro, 10.6.3 connected to a HP LaserJet 4MP via ethernet router via RJ45 cables, works great on ALL my other equipment, even the PC but refuses to show up in Snow Leopard. I tried the standard stuff like giving it an IP address that would match my current network settings, no luck, tried Asante, no luck. I realize it's hard to support a decade old printer but what's all the GREEN CRAP about if I have to keep throwing away equipment that still works, and beautifully. Had to ditch my quad PPC unit because of adobe. Now I can't print. HP was no help, apple support is WAY too expensive since I bought my machine used and they won't sell me an apple care agreement. Anybody have any more suggestions? MIO must stand for missing instant output. ANY suggestions would be appreciated as I've tried all the ones in the discussion forums so far.
Since the 4MP is a PostScript printer, there should be any number of print servers that work with it. It might even work with your router. But it is not going to just "show up" on your computer like it did with AppleTalk. You will need to provide the computer with all the information it needs for an IP connection.
You can get help with that here, but you need to provide information, like the model of the router. -
Has anyone fixed wireless printing to HP LaserJet 1015 via AEBS Snow
Dear All
I've searched the forums, read numerous posts by HP Mac Architect (thanks BTW for your amazing efforts), tried various things, and still can't get wireless printing back on my HP LaserJet 1015.
My set up is:
Intel Core Duo 20" iMac, 10.6.1, running latest version 2.2 HP drivers (383Mb download)
Airport Extreme Base Station Snow, running firmware 5.7
HP LaserJet 1015 connected to the USB port of AEBS
Worked in 10.5.8. Absolutely nothing in 10.6.1 - not an initial page, nothing after resets or restarts, nothing. It has also scuppered wireless printing to the 1015 from another iMac on the network running Leopard 10.5.8.
I have tried the following:
1) Usual stuff - restart AEBS, restart computer, switch off printer, unplug AEBS 30 seconds, reconnect printer
2) Deleting all HP stuff from Library/Printers, Library/Printers/PPDS/Contents/Resources, System/Library/Extensions, restarting, reinstalling HP drivers version 2.2, re-adding printer
3) Add the printer via Bonjour, using plain driver, Gutenprint driver
4) Add the printer via IP printing, HP JetDirect - Socket, using address of base station +/- the port, using either plain driver or Gutenprint driver
5) Tried the ipstat stuff in the terminal to get CUPS to accept the URI
6) Tried downgrading firmware of AEBS to 5.6 then 30s off, then back to 5.7, 30s off, then re-add the printer
The error messages I get:
Initially 'communication failure'
Then 'client-error-not-possible' from the other iMac
Now mainly 'unable to open device (read failure)'
I have yet to try the HPIJS drivers but before I do so has anyone else had any success or tried any other things I've not mentioned?
Do I need to wait till 10.6.2 or buy a new N base station or buy a new printer or what?
Thanks in advancemwong,
At the moment, there is no way I know of to get the LaserJet 1015 printing through the USB port any Airport base station that isn't running a firmware version of 7.4.2 (ie an 802.11N compatible Airport). Some people have had some luck on newer G's running 6.3, but I haven't seen anyone report success with 5.7 yet. At the moment, there is nothing we can do from our end to fix the issue.
Just trying to help.

Trying to connect to internet via rokair wireless usb adapter
I have a graphite clamshell ibook g3. I got it in 2000 and it did the job for me back then. it was great. In 2005 I upgraded the os to 10.3. now i would just like to be able to connect to the internet wirelessly (to linksys cisco router for comcast) to do simple things online, nothing fancy. rather than pay for an airport card (which it didnt come with) and hub, i just bought a rokair usb adapter. My ibook only has 1 usb port and its indented so the rokair people sent me a 1ft usb 2.0 wire to attach to the adapter. Ive installed the driver for os 10.3 but the computer does not recognize the usb adapter. Its still giving me as "internal modem" and "built-in ethernet" as my only options in the network folder. Is the computer not recognizing the USB 2.0? IS it even possible to upgrade this computer to acknowledge this type of USB?
Thankssaltyspicegirl, Welcome to the discussion area!
Your iBook has USB 1.1. That adapter appears to be backward compatible with USB 1.1 so that shouldn't be a problem.
You probably should contact their support to see if they can offer any suggestions. -
Printing to HP Laserjet 2100 via Time Capsule very very slow
If I connect the above printer directly to my Macbook (OS 10.5.2) it prints fine, at reasonable speed and quality.
Connected via the Time Capsule a half-page text document takes about 4-5 minutes to print.
I have updated the printer driver from this link http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs - the driver name is HP Laserjet Foomatic/hpijs
Using the standard 2100 Kaserjet driver offered by the operating system didn't work at all.
The printer is connect via USB using a USB to Parallel converter cable which again works fine when connected to my Mac directly (and to my PC).
I have restarted the Time Capsule.
What else can I try?
RichardHi dperomingo,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand when you try to print to your HP Laserjet p1102w you get an error message. Can you please let me know the exact error message you are getting? Unable to print to HP LaserJet 1000 via Print Server
I have a HP LaserJet 1000, TP-Link TL-PS110U (USB, Ethernet Print Server), TP-Link Modem Router (TD-W8961ND - 300Mbs Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router)
Operating System: Vista Home Edition
I can ping the Print Server (IP address: 192.168.1.110) from the laptop wirelessly.
I can print directly to the printer via the laptop when connected via the USB cable.
However, I get an error message in the job queue when trying to print wirelessly. I have contacted TP-Link for their input, however, they do not seem to be able to resolve the problem.
Can you please confirm is there is a compatibility issue. If it is compatible, could you please suggest how this should be set up?
(By the way, when I tried to download the HP Print and Scan Doctor, I got a 403 error message from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=uk&lc=en&jumpid=ex_r4155/hho/ipg/ccdoc/p...
Kind regards
Jools1964Hi Jools1964,
The HP Laserjet 1000 is an Host-Based printer, as listed on TP-Link's compatibility guide the print server only support the PCL or Post-Script printing languages, therefore the HP Laserjet 1000 is incompatible wit the print server:
http://www.tp-link.com/resources/document/TL-PS110U_Compatibility_List_2.pdf
PCL and PS are supported by our print servers. If the printer is not on the list, please check the
printing language by yourself. If it is PCL or PS, it should be compatible with our print server. If
not, it is more probably incompatible.
As you may find listed within the printer specification it is a Host-Based printer:
http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/learnUseDisplay/?sp4ts.oid=45674...
Printer languages: Windows host-based printer command language

Problems printing to HP Laserjet 4700dtn after upgrading to Tiger
I just upgraded this machine to Tiger - I use a Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5.
I've printed several things successfully in the two days since I upgraded, but suddenly, today, my attempts to print to the office's HP Laserjet 4700dtn have universally crashed every single application from which I've tried to print.
After experiencing this problem for the first time this morning, I ran software update and installed the latest security updates and also re-installed the HP laserjet software that came with the printer.
This only seemed to make the problem worse.
I'm still able to print to my Epson 2200 without crashes. The problem seems to lie specifically with the HP 4700. In fact, opening an print dialog and attempting to change the printer from the Epson to the HP crashes the software. Hitting the print icon (with the 4700 selected as default printer) crashes. Selecting print from the menu crashes.
I've made no other adjustments to my OS. I've not installed any new software.
If necessary, I can send through log files describing the crashes.
I'm typically able to reason through most problems with my Mac, but this one has me totally perplexed. Help!?!
Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5) 2GB DDR SDRAM
Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5)Is it possible to post a crash log, please, if you
still have one?
Since I can regenerate this error from any application at will, here's a fresh one.
I set the HP4700dtn as default printer, opened a document in TextEdit and hit apple-p to print. There's a very slight delay, then CRASH. The printer dialog never even appears.
Any help will be much appreciated!!

Does anyone know how to fix a problem printing with HP Laserjet printer?
We've recently begun experiencing problems when trying to print to our HP Laserjet printer. The iMac system seems to recognize the printer, but the print job gets "held up" in processing and never prints. We can turn the printer on and off and then one print job will be executed. However, then the system "freezes up" again and we have to repeat the whole process of turning the printer on and off. Very strange and frustrating. Especially, since the printer was working fine until recently.
Any help would be appreciated! Are you definitely running 10.6.7 as your profile says, or could you be on 10.6.8. If it's 10.6.8 quite a few people have reported printing problems.
Have a look at this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3137602?start=75&tstart=0
Worth perusing the whole thread but 'velocius' seems to have posted a solution that has worked for several people (make sure you use the correct entry - 3 from the end of page 6).
If you are on 10.6.7 you could try 'resetting the printing system'. System Preferences>Print & Fax and Control+Click on a printer listed on the left and select 'reset printing system'. All your printers will be deleted and need to be added again, but it might help fix the problem. -
Help! Problems printing to HP Laserjet printer
OK we've had an imac for several months and haven't had any problems. Recently, we can no longer print multiple jobs from our HP Laserjet printer. I believe the printer and the imac still recognize each other, but the print job seems to get "hung up" and never prints. It shows in the print que, but the status never changes. The only thing that seems to work is turning the printer on and off, but then it only prints 1 print job and then all other print jobs get "hung up" again.
"according to the system profile it says its an iMac 11, 2"
You have a much newer iMac than those covered in this forum, which is for iMacs made prior to Jan 2006. You'll feel more at home posting your question in the forum for current iMacs here:
iMac (Intel)
If someone here fails to notice you have the newer model, it's possible they could give you advise for the older ones that doesn't apply to yours. Not your fault--it's due to an unfortunate choice of forum labels. -

Help! I am having problems printing to HP LaserJet P1006? How can I get it to work?
Hey All! I have an old iMac that I am having a few issues with getting it to print with my HP LaserJet P1006. It will print from MS Word, but not any other program. Whenever I try to print from any other program (Excel, Preview, Firefox browser) it says that the print job has been stopped, and if I try to restart it or resend it to the printer, it simply stops it again and I have no idea why. I have already tried all of the basics (restarting my computer, reinstalling the driver, unplugging and restarting the printer, etc) and am at a loss. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Might try these two...

Might try Printer Setup Repair 5.1...

Problems printing with HP laserjet 1018
I'm using the hplip package. CUPS sees the printer, but I can't print diddley. I followed the wiki word for word and have googled extensively but I can't seem to figure it out. I tried printing as root, and as my user, and I am in the lp group but to no avail.
All that happens when I try to print is it says the jobs are all pending. Occasionally I get the error
"/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip-hplip failed"
I also tried the foo2zjs with similar results. But with the foo2zjs driver it simply says all my jobs are complete, rather than pending.
I've also tried the hp-toolbox program that comes with hplip, it can get the printer to move!, but it still won't print anything.
Thanks for the help.

Maybe this is solution
A HPLIP printer sends "/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed" error
Make sure dbus is installed and running, e.g. check DAEMONS in /etc/rc.conf or run ls /var/run/daemons.
hp-toolbox sends an error, "Unable to communicate with device"
If running hp-toolbox as a regular user results in:
# hp-toolbox
# error: Unable to communicate with device (code=12): hp:/usb/<your printer id>
or, "Unable to communicate with device"", then you may have to add yourself to the lp group by running the following command:
# gpasswd -a <username> lp
CUPS returns '"foomatic-rip" not available/stopped with status 3' with a HP printer
If you receive any of the following error messages in /var/log/cups/error_log while using a HP printer, with jobs appearing to be processed while they all end up not being completed with their status set to 'stopped':
Filter "foomatic-rip" for printer "<printer_name>" not available: No such file or director
or:
PID 5771 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip) stopped with status 3!
make sure you have hplip installed, in addition to the packages mentioned above, net-snmp is also needed. See: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65615
# pacman -S hplip

It seems to have started when I upgraded to OS 10.6 from 10.4.11 now running 10.6.7. The printer prints from all applications i.e. Word, Pages, Excel, Numbers etc. but when I try to ship from UPS or USPS I get an error that the printer is busy. Has anyone else seen this? But I can print the labels from my DeskJet L4700 at home but I need to be able to do this in the office.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated,
Cheers,
JeffPahu,
Thanks for the reply. We are a 1-1/2 person office so our network is quite small. I saw a postin on the "More Like This" board and followed it and found and answer that works. I guess in OS10.6 Apple dropped the drivers for these older printers from the GPP. Being such a small office our network doesn't have proxies, etc.
I wanted to thank you for your help, it was much appreciated.
Cheers,

Found this discussion in the "More Like This" section and followed the link below and sure enough if this guy hadn't sussed it out. he has a link to the HP driver and instructions on parts you need. It was perfect and now we are good to go! Hope this helps others out as well!
