Problem printing with airport

Hi there!
I've got two Mac's at home and Airport Express for the Airtunes and Internet access working as my family network. Decided to buy a printer two days ago and start using it across my airport usb hub but it's not working well.
Though some times it print out without problems, several times it start printing to stop in the middle pausing the printer without notification. Afterward I push start again it cancel the job and stop printing, so I had to uninstall the software and reinstall it several times.
But that it's annoying.
I thought the printer machine was not working well but I've printed it using the usb connection directly to any of my Mac's and haven't had problems doing it that way.
The printer it's a easy one, for house use more exactly HP DeskJet 2660.
Is there any body who can help me solving out this issue?
Thanks a lot.

Hello joseyanezprivado. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at this iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link.
If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help:
o Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule
Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if the printer you are interested in is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work.

Have tried everything under the sun from the apple and HP support websites and cannot get my printer to work wirelessly. When I try to add my printer, I get error message "-9672". Any other suggestions. Already spent 90 minutes on HP support and they gave me "their best effort", meaning they didn't think they could really help with outside products. Thanks.

Take a look at one of these iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility links, depending on which AirPort base station you have:

  • Problem printing with Airport Extreme/Bonjour through Mozilla Firefox

    Hi.
With the help of Apple's telephone tech support, I just set-up my new PowerBook G4 and Airport Extreme (including cable internet, desktop nonwireless PC, and HP LaserJet 3012).
I can now print from the PowerBook and through MS Word on the desktop. The problem is I can't print email or web pages through Mozilla Firefox on the PC. Has anyone else had any problems with this? Is there a Mozilla update that would fix it? Unfortunately, Apple tech support said they can't help with it since it is printing through other applications, just not Mozilla Firefox. They suggested I try this discussion board.
I haven't downloaded Mozilla Firefox on the PowerBook yet so I don't know if the Mozilla problem with replicate there too. I can print from Safari on the PowerBook right now.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Same problem, kind of... Have an Imac G5 with HP Laserjet 1012 connected usb. The Imac is direct wired to a 2Wire DSL wireless access point.
Setup bonjour on a (checks to make sure nobody is listening...) Toshiba Tecra L2 (Windows XP SP2). Prints fine from IE, refuses to print from firefox. Acts like it is printing, doesn't go. Prints fine from Word.
Setup bonjour on my wife's (covers mouth, looks embarrassed and coughs) dell d610 (windows xp sp2). Prints fine from ie and firefox. same network, same basic software.
Apple's bonjour site said something about an ie bonjour plugin, but that wouldn't explain why my wife's dell prints from firefox.
Anyone know if there is a firefox bonjour plug? haven't been able to find one. any suggestions on what settings would account for the differences. checked the firewall and exceptions in laptops.

  • Problem printing with Airport extreme and Windows Vista

I have just purchased a HP Laserjet printer that I have connected to my airport extreme. When I turn on Bonjour, my computer detects the printer, but when I try to configure it, a message apears saying I don't have the authorisation to do so...
Please tell me if you have any idea how to solve this!

I just got off the HP "chat" technical assistance about my HP DV6500z doing this same thing. At least for my model there is an October BIOS update. She had me re-install the Broadcom drivers and run the BIOS update. Now the whole computer runs faster in addition to connecting wirelessly! Not only that, I can use the "closed" network feature through the Airport Utility to hide my network as I did in the past and the PC finds it! I guess through all of the very testy notes on HP's discussion board they finally came through (well, at least on this model). My model has the AMD processor so if yours is Intel it may not be the same. I recommend going to their TA chat line or type in your model on their Software & Driver page to see if there is a recent revision on your models BIOS. The one I downloaded was dated 10-2007.

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.

I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

    Hello @arcticbear38,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving a small portion on the left hand side of a document missing on both printers. I will do my best to assist you! Does this happen when you print from one program or many program(s)?
Both of these printers are not indicating low on ink? I would recommend resetting the printing system on your computer by following this Apple document here. I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!

    Hello:
I must apologize  .  I should have checked here first:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP
According to the list, there is no driver for your printer included in OS X 10.7.
There are a couple of options:
    1.  Contact HP to see if they have a workaround.
    2. If the model of printer is not listed but your printer is a PostScript printer or PCL Laser printer, try the "Generic PostScript" or "PCL Laser printer" drivers.  Generic printer drivers may not let you access all the features of your printer.
I have not tried #2, but some people have had success.

  • Can't print with Airport Extreme

I am having trouble printing with Airport Extreme.
My printer is connected to the AE but every time I try to print I get a printer offline message.
I have tried in the past to print wirelessly but have given up.
I just bought a new MacBook Pro so I thought I would give it another go.
    Thank you.

Not very much to go on here but I'll give it a stab.
Go to the Airport Utility program located in Applications/Utilities folder.
Run this and select "manual setup" for your AE displayed on the left.
Hit the Printers icon on the top. Your shared printer should be displayed here. If it's not, then ensure it's powered on, good usb connection etc.
After this shows a usb printer connected then go to System Preferences>Print & Fax. You'll see printers you have setup before on the left. A green icon usually means they are available. If print doesn't work to the desired printer the best thing to do is remove the previous definitions by highlighting the printer and hitting the "-" icon.
Now hit the "+" sign and define the shared printer. It should be listed in the resulting "add Printer" dialog. Highlight, change any naming info and click "add".
Printer should now be available. I'm assuming a supported printer that have the device drivers loaded on your system.
    That's all I got.

  • HP 1320 Printer with Airport Extreme Problem Solved with Leopard

This may be of interest. I appear to have solved my printing problems using an Airport Extreme with an HP 1320 printer.
It appears that all of the options for the printer must be specified. These options include the "Fit to Page" option in Print&Fax/Options&Supplies/Driver; the "Media Type" in Print/Finishing; the "Printer Resolution", "Resolution Enhancement", and "HPEconoMode" all in Print/Image Quality. If all of these are specified, the printer will print without user intervention.
    Hope this helps,
    David

There are no specific settings on the Apple router to allow a PC to connect. It broadcasts the same signal for all.
Have you checked the Windows firewall on the PCs to see if that, or possibly the anti-virus software is blocking the attempted connection?
I've had both XP and Vista machines, and in each case I had to go into the Firewall settings to tell the application to "allow" the connection that was being blocked. No problems at all after that. Not sure if this is your issue or not, but it would be the first place I would look.

  • Can't print with airport usb connection only

i have spent the last 3 days searching for help to fix my problem - PLEASE HELP!!!
    using:
    imac osx 10.6.8
    canon image class mf8350cdn
    airport extreme base station
I cannot seem to print wirelessly with my imac using just the USB connection on the airport router.  I can print with the printer locally when it's "hardwired" directly to a usb on the back of the imac.  I can print if i connect a cat5 network cable from the printer to the airport. i can print wirelessly with a PC when the printer is connected with a usb to the airport.  i just can't do this with my imac via the usb connection on the router.  my error message is a Canon CMFP Printer Driver telling me printer is not responding - check the power.....try sending again.
I believe i have tried everything!!!  While i am newer to mac and not the greatest at networking, i have manipulated every setting to match up with all of the online help i can get (trying to not have to send this question!!) and no luck.
i have deleted printers and jobs, reinstalled everything, i changed the cable, downloaded the latest drivers from canon and apple, i updated the firmware on the printer. i even reinstalled my osx and confirmed all is updated on my imac.
i don't want to scan or fax this way - so that is not my issue -- it's just plain old printing using that usb port.
i need all of my other ports on the airport for other things, so i cannot sacrific this one for printing - i just want to use the usb as my printer connection to print with all of the machines i have.
hope my question makes sense and that someone will take the time to give a reply.
    thanks!!
p.s. the closest discussion that matches my issue seems to be this one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12367897#12367897
but, i still can't seem to get there..........

It is possible your printer simply cannot be made to work in this manner, and is more often than not a problem with multifunction printers.

  • HP PSC 1410 not printing with Airport Express

I have just purchased this printer. I'm running Tiger on a Powerbook G4.
When I set up the printer with a direct USB connection to my computer, the printer is added with the driver "HP All-in-One 3.0.1" automatically chosen. It works just fine.
When I plug in the printer to my Airport Express, the same All-in-One driver is automatically offered. I chose it, and the printer is added to my list of printers no problem. However, it just won't print. It tries to start the print job, and then the printer icon bounces in the dock with a big red exclamation mark. I try to click on start print job, and the same thing happens - it tries to start the job, but then just stops and the exclamation mark appears.
Does anyone know what might be wrong?
    Thanks
    Theresa

The PSC 1410 is not on the list of known compatible printers found at http://www.efelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html - which may very well explain the problem.

  • HP printing with AirPort Extreme

I have a imac with Intel, OSX 10.6.  I am using a HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One printer, and have been for a few years and it has worked extremely well.  Earlier this year my old airport extreme went bad and I purchased the latest one.  It has the latest updates available.  When I got the new Airport Extreme the directions said to plug the printer via USB cable into the Airport.  I have been through the system preferences, deleted and added the printer, went through the manual set-up for the Airport Extreme, rebooted everything and it will NOT print.  The Airport Utilities recognizes the printer and it tries to print and stops giving me a message of "Printer Paused", or printer offline.  When I hit "resume", the printer cycles a bit and them goes to "Printer Paused" again.  Everything worked great until I purchased the new Airport Extreme.
The printer works excellent when plugged into the back of my imac, however, it does not make my wife happy because she can't print from her laptop.  My Son brought a friend home with him for the weekend that is a Software Engineer.  He downloaded software and drivers and installed them and he could not get it to print with the USB cable plugged into the Airport either.  He worked with it for 4 hours.  The HP printer just will not communicate with the Airport.  I have also been getting a message this evening that one of my ink cartridges has expired.  I can shake it and it appears to be almost full.  I opened a new one and get the same message that it is expired.  I have had the new one for several months though because I hate running out of ink.
Any help would be most appreciated.

I am not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to setting this stuff up.  I was hooking the printer up to the Airport Extreme because the set-up instructions said to.  When the software engineer was here, he could not get the wireless on the printer to find the Airport Extreme.  The kid is pretty sharp but was under a lot of pressure to get done so that he and my Son could get on the road.  He wasn't expecting to get into the hassles of setting this up.
This is probably mostly because of the name I have given to the Extreme being too long and not remembering, or KNOWING anything about this.  I have given the Extreme one name and the network another.  I don't know where the set-up instructions are and he was trying to guess.  I just tried doing as you said to make the printer wireless but failed for the same reasons he did.  I got a message to go back and check the set-up.  I am not sure what I am supposed to check for.   I guess I will have to change some of the set-up information on the router as far as naming the router and network.
When I got this pinter I did not have v.10.6 on the imac at the time.  However, when I downloaded the software from HP, it was for 10.6 and 10.7.   I just a few minutes ago got the printer to work with the USB cable plugged into the computer, actually a USB hub.  Just a few minutes after i got the printer working by hooking it to the USB hub, a software update popped up for a HP printer update.  For a bit of information, I have had problems with concentration since several war injuries in Viet Nam and I get lost easily.  I don't mean to use this as an excuse, just explaining that I will be a bit slow following you.  I was a Senior Radio Repairman and Communications Chief in the Army and head of the Crypto Center.  Now I feel like a lost ball in high weeds.  I can still work things out by reasoning to an extent, but sometimes it is very frustrating, so I ask that you bear with me.

  • Printing with Airport Express: never compeletes

    Hi,
I have an HP Deskjet 5740 connected over my Airport Express.
Printing works fine except for one very annoying issue: after the job is done the task is still in the printer's queue, and the activity light on the printer does not stop blinking.
When you look at the printer window under XP, it shows a weird "pages" count, like 4/1 when printing one single page.
In order to print something else you need to cancel the job manually from the printer tray.
    Can somebody please help me?
    Thank you

  • Possible solution for problems printing with ICC profiles - esp. R2400

(N.B. This is long because I've decided to go in to details about the background of the problem etc.. Also note that whilst my experience is with the Epson R2400, anyone with problems printing using ICC profiles in Aperture may find this post helpful, as will be explained further down the post.)
Ok, here's the situation. I've been an Aperture user for over a year, and an R2400 owner for half a year. In that time I have done a huge amount of experimenting, but I've never managed to get Aperture to work perfectly with Epson's 'premium' R2400 ICC profiles - the ones you can download from their site which are better than the ones provided 'in the box'. This hasn't been too big a deal because, in fact, the R2400 does a rather good job just set to 'System Managed' in Aperture and 'Epson Vivid' with a gamma of 1.8 in the printer driver. Nevertheless, it really annoyed me that something that should work wasn't, which is why I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out what's going on. Having said that, I have come across a method which will give you pretty good prints out of your Epson R2400 using the premium profiles in Aperture - it's not perfect, but it's the best you're going to get if you want to use those profiles in Aperture. I understand the words 'it's not perfect' aren't what photography experts would probably want to hear, however, I have seen a few anguished posts from R2400 owners in here before, so I think some people may find it useful.
The whole reason why Aperture is hopeless at using the R2400's premium profiles is because - unusually - their default rendering intent is set to 'relative colorimetric' rather than 'perceptual'. You might say 'but that's good - it means you get more accurate colours!', and if you do, you're right... however, there's a snag. To get an image to reproduce well using Epson's premium profiles and relative colorimetric rendering, you really need to use black point compensation. This is where the trouble lies: Aperture's black point compensation is diabolical to the point of being unusable when used with relative colorimetric rendering - I feel I need to be awarded compensation every time I've ever tempted to use the setting. So because BPC in Aperture is unusable, that effectively makes the premium profiles unusable too, because Aperture always uses the default rendering intent specified in the profile.
The solution? Use perceptual rendering instead. Ok, so you can't change the rendering intent in Aperture, which makes that sound a tad difficult. However, as I said in the above paragraph, Aperture always obeys the default rendering intent specified in the profile... so you can see where we're going with this: we need to change the ICC profiles' default rendering intent from 'relative colorimetric' to 'perceptual'. I did some digging around and found one or two expensive pieces of software that could do that... but then I found that, lo and behold, the Mac OS has a command-line utility which can do the job for us, for precisely £0.00. It's called SIPS or 'Scriptable Image Processing System', and you can find out some information about it here: http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn/tn2035.html#TNTAG58 For those who don't like reading technical jargon however, here's what you need to do to convert a profile's rendering intent. First go to terminal, then type in the following command:
    sips -s renderingIntent perceptual
Do not press 'enter' yet. Instead, add a space after 'perceptual', find the ICC profile you want to modify, and click and drag it into the terminal window. You should then find that your command looks something like this:
    sips -s renderingIntent perceptual /Users/yourname/folder/RandomProfile.ICC
At which point you can then press 'enter', and the command will execute, giving you an ICC profile which will now make Aperture use perceptual rendering.
There is just one further thing to be aware of after doing this: for some crazy reason, you then need to turn on BPC in Aperture for the prints to come out as good as possible. Black point compensation shouldn't make any difference when using perceptual rendering as the idea of perceptual is that it takes account of things like that anyway, however, in Aperture BPC does make a difference, so remember to turn it on to get a half decent print. In general, I find that prints made using this setup come out pretty well; they almost perfectly match prints made using the profiles with a perceptual intent in Photoshop Elements, except for the fact that Aperture blocks up the shadows a bit more than Photoshop. However, if you can live with that, you might find this is quite a workable solution.
Now, I said near the beginning of this post that all the above can apply to other printers too. Most printer profiles have 'perceptual' set as their default rendering intent, in which case everything I've just said won't be of much help. However, If you are reading this because you're having problems with ICC profiles in Aperture, but you don't use an Epson R2400, find your problematic ICC profile, double-click on it, and take a look at the window that opens: specifically, at the 'Rendering Intent' the window mentions. If it doesn't say 'Perceptual' then it may well be worth trying the steps I've outlined in this post to set it to perceptual, to see if doing so produces an improvement when using the profile in Aperture.
Finally, just one note of caution: if you decide to try out the steps I've detailed above on a paid-for custom-made profile, please back your profile up before messing with it. I haven't experienced any problems when using SIPS to change a profile's rendering intent, but I obviously can't guarantee that it won't do something weird and corrupt your expensive custom-made profile.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask, although (contrary to any impression I may give) I am not a colour-management expert; I'm just someone who doesn't give up when they have a problem that should be solvable.
