Problem Re-installing InDesign CS4

When I try to re-install my registered copy of InDesign CS4, I get the message "The installer database is corrupt. Please contact Adobe Customer Serice." It was previously installed with no problem on the same HP laptop, but HP wiped the drive recently when I sent the laptop in for repair. Has anyone gotten this message? I also have InDesign CS4 installed on my desktop computer, but have been assured by Customer Service that I should be able to install the product on another computer with no problem, even though I didn't get a chance to deactivate it when the laptop drive was wiped.

Thanks so much, Peter! You're a lifesaver -- almost, anyway.
I was unaware of the demo downloads of legacy CS products. A great resource!! I followed your directions, got the download, and tried to install InDesign CS4, but received the same message as with my CD: "The installer database is corrupt. Please contact Adobe Customer Service." I have to think it's something wrong (some software conflict??) with my less-than-a-year-old Intel i7 HP laptop, which I just got back from HP repair with the hard drive wiped. (It wouldn't boot. They said it was a memory chip problem and that they couldn't save my data.) To test my theory, I think I'll temporarily install InDesign CS4 from my CD on a friend's computer and see what happens.
Not sure what else to do but watch closely for any future odd behavior from this machine and, in the meantime, get Scribus or maybe PagePlus (never liked Publisher). Bummer! As a retired writer/graphic designer, I can't afford Adobe's latest and greatest, although I use InDesign a great deal -- and can easily make do with Photoshop Elements.
Any suggestions from you or others would be greatly appreciated. I'm certainly not looking forward to recreating a lot of documents in a lower-ranked program.

  • Unable to install InDesign CS4

I'm the It person that has to install software for my users and here's today's headscratcher.  My user has InDesign CS2 installed and working on his XP computer.  I try to install InDesign CS4 upgrade and the installer says it can't find the previous version in the standard location.  It's there, I checked.  Anyway, I offer it the serial number that I got off Adobe's own licensing website.  The installer says nope not a valid serial number.  Remember this came from Adobe's own website, but whatever.  I install the demo version, try to license it and it still can't find the working CS2 installation and won't take the CS2 serial number.
So tell me how am I suppose to get CS4 Upgrade to install in this scenerio?

    First -- don't even ask.
All the answers are YES.  I have adequate hardware.  Brand new MacBookPro.  Lots of RAM, hard drive space. fast Intel Core Duo.
Have spent the equivalent of, I think, 143 weeks talking to Adobe (a) tech support and (b) customer support folks who all say and do the same thing:
    1) Send canned, prepacked responses that ignore your original message
    2) Act surprised to learn that the InDesign installer STILL HANGS UP WHILE "CHECKING SYSTEM PROFILE...."
    3) Recommend all kinds of bizarre, ridiculous solutions --- implying it's probably the customer's fauilt.
    4) Don't speak good English
    5) Never  check back to see if the problem is solved or the customer has decided to throw himself (and his adobe software) off a cliff
Personal judgments are totally unfair, of course.   But in the spirit of unfairness, what Adobe provides is  Adobe's unspeakable indefensible handling of this situation in specific -- and customer service in general.
Its customer base is riddled with customers who've paid for and received a NONWORKING product.  A defective product. Period.  If this were a prescription drug or a car, the govt would have ordered recalls by now.
Adobe's labrynthine, convoluted recommended "fixes"  (delete and reinstall all your Adobe products....reinstall your system software .... go stand in the rain and burn incense .... whatever) is like Ford Motor telling the customer:  "Yes, we admit the defect.  But, hey, at least we feel bad about it. Why don't you try selling your car and buying a new one."
Am a syndicated newspaper columnist.  Have already got the draft of a very funny 700-word commentary to distribute about this.  Adobe will hate it. But I'm sure we'll both get over it.
    Eeegads.
    Dear Adobe:
For the record, only  SOME of the people with the Install/Setup issue (installer freezes at about 90% while checking system profiler) have inadequate hardware. Most have adequate hardware.  We've all  read the bulletins and bulletin boards. So has Adobe.  We know it; Adobe knows it.  Adobe knows it because ALL OF US HAVE SPENT HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH ADOBE ONLY TO CONFIRM THAT (A) OUR HARDWARE IS MORE THAN ADEQUATE AND (B) THEY HAVEN'T A CLUE WHAT WE SHOULD DO.
This is one the largest software makers in the world.  They have enough programmers and engineers on their janitorial staff to fix this...make the nightmare go away.  How?  Produce a NEW installer that is not affected by whatever it is that is affecting the current one!  (I'm a genius, right?)  Or a two-part installer that first scans and fixes the obstacle, THEN installs InDesign. (I'm also flexible)
Adobe's failure to do this -- more than eight months after being made  aware of the problem -- is not one of this company's finer moments.

The simple fix is to read the system requirements before buying software. While some users have gotten CS4 to run, the G4 does not meet the system requirements for InDesign CS4.
You should also take note that Adobe has already announced that future versions will be Intel only.
It's time to consider new hardware.

  • New problem printing from InDesign CS4 in Lion

After having great success with Aisolve's earlier fix on printing from InDesign CS4 after upgrading to Lion, I'm having a new problems after installing the OS X 10.7.2 upgrade last week. When I try to print from  InDesign CS4 and Illustrator CS4 to my Lanier 445c/Ricoh C4500 at my workplace I get the following error message:
"Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem."
This seems like a different issue this time, as I'm able to print to my home printers, an HP LasertJet 2600n and an HP Photosmart C4270. I thought it might be a printer driver problems, but I've gone to Lanier's site and they don't have any new printer drivers for Mac OS X 10.7.
I also some research on Adobe's site, and found this message affecting CS1, 2 & 3. I tried the only fix that seemed to apply to me, which was re-naming/deleting the InDesign Deafults and InDesign SavedData files. (I have this problems even when I'm printing a text-only file without any graphics.) This fix didn't work.
I can print to the Lanier/Ricoh from Acrobat 9, and all my non-Adobe software just fine, so my work-around to date has been exporting to PDF and printing from there. My big problem is that I need the "Print Booklet" feature in InDesign for a big job I've got coming up this week. Can't do that from Acrobat. :-(
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    mmsteer,
I think I may be able to help you with this problem, which I was having with CS4 when I first upgraded to Lion, and others were having with CS3. This fix is courtesy of Aisolve on these discussion boards:
Remove the Adobe PDF PPDs from the following folders:
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_CN.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Ja.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/ko.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_TW.lproj,
Be sure to go to your system Library, not your user Library.
Also, regarding my current problem, I spoke with an Apple tech person and found that the 10.7.2 upgrade apparently is the culprit, and is incompatible with wireless printing to my Lanier printer. I CAN print connected through USB. That's a work-around for now, but I'll need to contact Lanier about upgrading their driver for OS X 10.7.2.
Aisolve was helping me with this issue, too, and assures me that if I'm able to generate a postscript file (which I was), and able to generate a PDF by distlling it through Adobe Distiller (which I am), then I can safely assume that the problem lies with the hardware, in this case the printer driver. This lines up with what Apple told me.

  • Installing InDesign CS4 upgrade from Pagemaker 7.0

I have purchased InDesign CS4 upgrade from Pagemaker 7.0.  I have also purchased a new computer on which I have installed it. When I run
CS4 it offers me a trial version or enter a serial number.  I entered my PM7 serial number but that doesn't work.  Do I need to
have PM7 installed before I install CS4 for this to all work?  If so, do I now need to uninstall CS4, install PM7, reinstall CS4 and then uninstall PM7 after it all works??  When I've used an upgrade before it hasn't need the actual files to be on the PC just the serial number.  Running Windows XP Professional. Adobe support didn't help at all!!

I think you may need to call customer service. There have been a number of reports of trouble installing the PM to ID upgrades, often due to odd serial numbers carried forward from earlier PM installations.
That said, I think the first time you are asked for a serial number it is probably the number of the CS4 upgrade that you need (since the other option is as a trial). Presumably you have that number becasue you paid for the license. After that I would expect the installer to look for PM or ask for the disk or serial number. Having the PM disk will probably help.

  • Installing Indesign CS4 Trial Version

I am trying to download the trial version of Indesign CS4, when I get it downloaded and try to launch it says opening adbeidsncs4_LS1.dmg it goes through but when it is complete a screen pops up that says 'the following disk images failed to mount--abdesidsncs4_LS1.dm invalid checksum. But if I don't let it complete the screen that says opening abdeidsncs4_LS1.dmg if I open Indesign it will work but there is no tool bar. I have tried to uninstall it and re-install it but it is still doing the same thing.

    Two possibilities come to mind.
First, the download was damaged and you should try downloading the trial again.
Second, you are installing a non-US English localized version. There are known issue with these versions. See http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408055.html

  • Problem with German InDesign CS4 Trial

Since the last week im trying to use the Adobe InDesign CS4 Trial Version on my Computer but i does not work really. I have downloadet the German Version but after the installation it runs in Englisch and the Toolbars on the left and the right side are missing. Before i'm using the CS3 Version at the same Computer and it works perfekt. I tried the CS4 Trial on an different Computer in our office and it works perfekt but this Computer have Microsoft Windows XP Professional.
I read in the System requirements that Vista 64bit is not zertified but why does the CS3 work perfekt and the CS4 make those Problems?
I hope anybody can held me......

Thank you for suggesting workaround #1!
I have been struggling with bookmarking issues for years here on CS4.  I am not bookmarking text frames, simply bookmarking pages, but I have been having problems as described.  I thought I researched it thoroughly online, but I was so relieved to find and try this option today.
I have a 50 page InDesign price book.  Every page is bookmarked.  After exporting as a PDF some of the bookmarks work fine and some take me to the wrong page.  In InDesign CS4, I can click through the bookmarks and everything works as expected.  Every bookmark takes me to the page I assigned it to...perfect! However, once exported as a PDF I have issues.  In Preview (Mac OS 10.8) or Adobe Reader, some bookmarks are fine and some direct me to the incorrect page.  I tried Adobe Reader thinking maybe the issue was with Preview, but not only is the problem with both programs--they error consistently.  The bookmarks take me to the same incorrect page in both Preview and Reader.
Exporting as a INX file and reimporting into InDesign CS4 is the only way I have been able to get this to work.  I originally switched to InDesign for two reasons:  1.  I was experiencing the same problem in Adobe Acrobat when assigning bookmarks so I hoped using another program would help.  2.  I am rebuilding the price book page by page in InDesign.  (Some pages just pull from a PDF document and some are original--created in InDesign CS4.  Eventually all pages will be InDesign original files.  I'm not sure those details matter, but that is what I have for content in my document.)
Thank you!  Thank you!  I really appreciate that you took the time to suggest this for the rest of us!  I can finally distribute a correctly bookmarked price book to our reps.

  • Installing InDesign CS4 on new Mac computer

I just purchased a new Mac computer with the OS X 10.9 software. I'm trying redownload my InDesign CS4 from the adobe site and it's not letting me download the program? Any suggestions?

CS4 would definitely not be supported in 10.9, but it may work. The user will be on their own because it's an older, untested version.

  • Having trouble installing Indesign CS4 on my ibook laptop G4.

Hi I'm trying to install the CS4 suite on my ibook but it refuses to install saying it needs a minimum of 1.8 Ghz and my ibook is 1.42ghz. Is there anything I can do as I really can't afford to upgrade my laptop at the moment! Hard times. Thanks

In order to run CS4, you'll need a different computer.
The Mac OS system requirements state this:
    *PowerPC® G5 or multicore Intel® processor*
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/photoshop/systemreqs/
And your iBook does not have that kind of processing power.

  • Help Files not installed Indesign CS4- how do I run a macro

I searched and found rhere were others with the same problem. Jarno Ahokas from Finland on Dec 15, 2009 offered a macro to fix the problem. I downloaded his macro, now my question is, "What do I do with it?" How do you install and run a macro for InDesign?

  • How many computers can I install Indesign CS4 and Illustrator CS4 on with an Asia Pacific Education version?

I've tried to have a look around among discussions, however, as it's CS4 and thus pretty outdated at this point, I'm having to start something new.
This is not for me, but a community organisation that I am volunteering for that has the copies and has asked me to see if they're allowed to install it on another computer within their small office.
Thanks in advance for any information!

    J,
I believe you can only install an educational version on one computer. But an educational version is for one student/teacher and cannot be sold/given away to others, so they may be far out already.
But you should ask someone from Adobe.
    You may try Customer Care,
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
    or Adobe Support (phone),
    http://helpx.adobe.com/adobe-connect/adobe-connect-phone-numbers.html
but they may tell you that the version is too old for them to deal with.
If you wish, you may report your (lack of) findings here, so I can maybe ask someone to find the right someone to give the final answers.

  • Problem to install Adobe Cs4 design premium on mac Mountain Lion

    Hi,
I've changed my old Macbook pro (my OS was Snow Leopard) for the last new Imac. I did back up everything on an external disk with Time Machine.
When I've started for the first time on the new Imac with Mountain Lion, I've restored everything from the external disk.
But when I started Photoshop Cs4 or Illustrator Cs4, I got this message : Error 150:30
So I did unsinstalled the creative suite, clean all as recommended here :
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4673667
    I've downloaded a creative suite cs4 Trial from : http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
But when I install it, the process stop after a while and a window appears with :
"This application requires a version of Adobe AIR which is no longer supported.
Please contact the application author for an updated version."
I suppose that the downloaded version is too old for Mountain Lion.
Could someone give an hand to work it out please.
    Thanks.
PS : I've got my ID and my serial number
I used a downloaded version because there's no CD lector on the new IMac.
