Problem Reading Sent Mail

Hi There,
When I try to read my sent mail on my computer @ work (20" iMac G5 2GHz; OS X 10.3.9), I see the following message instead of the email I sent:
+The message has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.+
Trouble is that the account is online when I get the message. Also, I've got the prference set to delete messages from my ISP's server once they're downloaded.
If I quit Mail & re-open it, I can read one sent mail but have to quit again & re-open Mail again to read another.
Any help is appreciated.

You'll probably get a more informed answer if you post in the [Panther Mail|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=740] section of Discussions.
Good Luck,

  • Problem with "sent" mail folder-how do I trash the prefs in Apple Mail?

Since no one has answered my original request for assistance regarding my "Sent Mail" mailbox, I'll move the issue aside and approach it differently: How do I trash the prefs in Apple Mail without trashing my inbox and all the other mailboxes? Trashing the prefs works for most apps, but if I do that to Mail, I'm screwed. My real problem remains: I can no longer see or read the email in my "sent mail" box; I can see the info identifying the entry, but I can't read the contents of the email. It's all there in the Mail folder on my hard drive, but it doesn't show up in the Mail app.
So how can I trash the prefs for "Mail" without trashing my inbox?

    Hello b:
I have only had to trash the Mail preference once, and I cannot remember what occurred (except that the application worked OK after that).
Before you trash the preference file, try rebuilding the mailbox(s).

  • Problem syncing sent mail

The "Sent mail" folder on my iPhone does not syncronize with the "Sent folder" in Mail on my mac. I use a .Mac account.
How can i resolve this issue???
    Thanks in advance,

Id be curious to know this as well. i've noticed on mine that it tries to send and then pops out of Mail. But when I go check my sent mail on Yahoo it was sent. AND when i've check if the email was recieved...normally...there are like 10 of the same emails depending on how many times I tried to send from the iPhone.

  • Problems with Sent mail and multiple accounts on the same server

I have 2 different email accounts that are on the same server. Regardless of the account from which I send the email, all of the sent messages end up in the same sent folder. Is there a way to force the sent messages to go into their correct Sent folder?

In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. With that folder open, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post, to let me see the names of the files and folders present at the root level of the Mail folder.
Before actually posting that information, you may edit it so that the file/folder names do not reveal any details you wish to keep private, e.g. you may replace any real username with "username" to hide your real email address if you wish; similarly, you may disguise any domain names you don't want to be revealed. Try to be consistent in how you disguise those details, though, as we may need to refer to them in subsequent posts.
Now, go to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. With that folder open, repeat the process to let me see the names of the files and folders it contains. Again, you may disguise any mailbox names you wish to keep private. Be careful to not alter any suffixes, though.
Finally, for the two accounts involved in the problem, locate the account folders within ~/Library/Mail/ -- their name begins with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. For each account folder, repeat the process to let me see the names of the files and folders it contains.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

  • AOL Mail - PROBLEMS with sent mail

My mail is with AOL. Quite often these days I have trouble using Apple Mail. Wondering if it's AOL's problem or something wrong with my computer, or if it's my cable internet provider (Time Warner Cable - which tests at 20/1.75 Mb/sec)
Sent messages occasionally take FOREVER to send (regular text - no attachments). The transfer speed goes from very low to zero. The second problem is that occasionally sent messages don't show up in my sent folder. Most of the time it's these messages that take forever that don't show up. They don't show up in my sent folder at aol.com either. As if they never existed. Yet I do know that they are actually being sent and delivered.
    Major frustration.

    Ernie Stamper wrote:
I have not had any problems using AOL?
Either had I until today. I got a restricted content message when I attempted to post. I had originally used "aol.com" in my message. I assumed this was the problem, so I removed the ".com". Still got the restricted content message. I tried changing "AOL" to "America Online" and it worked.
Strange. Seems to be allowing me to post it now. Don't worry about it.
With the other Sent folder you found, apply Use This Mailbox For and choose Sent. Be sure to first transfer any messages in the one under paper airplane icon to another mailbox it they are not duplicated anywhere else.
When you do this, all should be well. I think AOL sent out instructions at one point to do just this step.
Thank you Ernie! This worked! Bravo!

  • Problem reading japanese mail subject line

    I am using
javax.mail.Message.getSubject() method to read the Japanese subject line of the mail, but when i see the string returned by this method, it has some junk characters.
Can anyone please tell me how to read japanese subject line?

    Hi Pothana,
I did try to change the encoding of the Exchange server to UTF-8, but there was no difference in the result.
Note that this problem is only in the subject line.  If I send the same text in the content it is received correctly.
(Changing the encoding of PI is not an option... I do not have access to the Visual Administrator).
@Ninad since I am taking the Subject from the ASMA (as suggested by SAP) I don't think that changing the content encoding of the message would make a difference.
@Ashutosh I do have that document but I can't find anything that can help me in there.  Do you see anything that could help resolve this specific issu?
In the mean time the problem is still there...
Thanks for any additional help you can give me,
    Aldo

  • Reading Sent mail and mail stored in folders from "On My Mac" on my ipad

On my MBP, I use Mail for both personal mail and business mail. I have two accounts set up in Mail. Mobile Me for personal mail (imap) and a pop3 account for my business mail. The Sent folder has copies of mail sent from both accounts. For my business mail I have a number of folders ("Mailboxes") set up that I move my inbox mail to when I want to save a particular email (I like to keep my inbox clean). These folders are stored under "On My Mac" on my MBP. I understand from reading previous posts that I cannot create folders on the ipad unless I create them on my MBP using my imap mobile me account, which I am not going to do for business. Is there any way for me to be able to have access to (i.e., read them from the Mail program on the ipad) the emails and their attachments that I currently have in my Sent folders and in the "On My Mac" folders?
Alternately, is there a way to copy all those emails and keep them synced with another app that would let me access them from the ipad? So much of my detail info for my ongoing business is on emails and not just word, excel, pwrpoint files (those I can upload and keep in sync with mobile me or Dropbox and access them when I need them) that being able to truly leave my MBP home for several days and only use the ipad is now questionable.
    Thanks

From Contacts, anyway (the new version of Address Book) you can export to a .abbu file and import then into Outlook. I'm not sure about Mail as I only really use Outlook...

  • How to download the "Sent Mail" folder from Gmail to Mail 4.1?

Since updating to Snow Leopard I no longer have any mail in my Sent Mail folder
when using IMAP in Mail 4.1. In fact just a few (258) of all my sent messages (3732)
    were properly downloaded.
I noticed that after configuring my Gmail to work with Mail/IMAP some new folders were
created. They are: [Gmail]/Sent Mail/Sent, [Imap]/Drafts, Sent messages, and Deleted Messages. Apart
from those, my Gmail account has always had standard folders such as Inbox, Sent Mail (the majority of my sent messages are in here), Drafts, Spam, and Trash. Apparently Mail is only downloading the messages from the new "Sent messages" folder and not the standard "Sent Mail", wherein all my sent messages actually are.
Another issue it that the spinning gear next to the Gmail Inbox in Mail 4.1 keeps spinning incessantly as if checking for new messages all the time even though it is set to check for new messages every 5 minutes and all messages has been downloaded. I have another IMAP account for my university's email which is working perfectly (neither problems with Sent Mail folder nor spinning gear). I will post the spinning gear problem in a separate question.
In my old MacBook I didn't have this problem when using Gmail with POP. This is the first time I'm using IMAP.
Is anybody having the same problems?
I appreciate your help in advance.

you can change Your Sent mailbox to "Sent Mail". select Sent Mail mailbox, go to mailbox menu->use this mailbox for->sent.

  • How Can I Access sent mail?

When I try to read sent mail I get this message: (the email) has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it. Can't figure out how to do it, can anyone help please?

If this is a POP account and you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), as your profile indicates, you probably have the problem described here:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
If you’re just starting to experience the problem, doing what the article suggests might work. If you’ve let the problem to become worse over time, however, it may be too late to solve it as described in the article.
Because of the differences between Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, further discussing your problem here might confuse other users with apparently similar problems running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), so please start a new topic in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum, or just look for other threads discussing the same problem there. This is actually a FAQ in that forum.

  • Mail Problem: No outbox, no sent mail unable to send mail

I wiped my HD and restored my account from back up. All seems to be okay EXCEPT
When I open MAIL I have no OUTBOX, my SENT mail is empty and while it appears to let me create a new email and send it it does not go to outbox or sent mail, and no email goes out.
There is no activity from the mail activity pane on send.
I have deleted the mail.plist and the account and then added it back in. Same results.
If I switch to a admin/test account on the same device, MAIL works correctly.
    Any thoughts?

I'm not sure it was a migration assistant malfunction. Last month I started using an iMac I purchased in May. Upgraded to Mountain Lion. Did not use migration assistant, but did import my mailboxes. They are in an Import folder and I can get to them when I want. Not the ideal situation, but I'll work on it.
However, I just realized that 13 of the messages I've sent in the last week never did get sent. Some messages I sent did go, others didn't. I realized the problem when I went to my Sent folder to get some info from an email I sent someone and could not find it. I did not see an Outbox in my list of folders on the left. However, when I did a search for the name of the person this email was to have been sent to, the email came up and indicated it was in the Outbox. The word Outbox was a link, so I clicked on it. THEN the Outbox showed up and contents included 13 messages I had thought were already sent!
After testing sending and receiving from my Webmail, I checked my account settings again to ensure they were correct; they were. I quit Mail and re-opened . . . and all those messages in the Outbox immediately were sent! My Outbox is still in the list of folders.
Before I switched to my new computer and updated OS, sometimes I would get a message that said the message couldn't be sent and it let me choose another server if I wanted. I would usually choose the same server and it would be sent when I hit go. I always thought it was a problem with the server for some reason. I want Mail to notify me if a message isn't sent when I hit Send. I don't see an option for that in Preferences. Any ideas? I really don't want to always have to double-check to make sure each message I sent goes in the Sent folder!
    Thank you!

  • Sent Mail now put in seperate 'Sent Messages' folder - big problems

Never had this problem before. I have my MobileMe account set to sync everything to the server across my 10.5.8 MacBookPro and 3.0.1 iPhone 3GS. Sent Mail has always been put in the standard 'Sent' folder and we've got along fine.
The other day I was setting up my email on a 10.5.7 iMac and when it did the mail sync, it created a new folder called 'Sent Messages (.me)' and preceded to put all the synced up sent messages in this folder instead of the standard 'Sent' folder at the top of the Mail.app application.
Now its a right mess. On the iPhone I can not select 'Sent' in the 'On the Server' list when choosing where to put sent mail. It only offers 'Sent' 'On My iPhone' and shows the 'Sent Messages (.mac)' on the other list.
How do I hit the reset button and get this back to where it was before with 'Sent' folder sync bliss?
Do I need to remove the accounts from all machines and start again?
Could 10.5.7 on the iMac be the culprit?
    Many thanks.

    Maybe not...
I've had the same symptoms suddenly appear while using an IMAP account. Sent mail is no longer saved in the Sent folder -- unlike you, I can't find any of my new Sent mail. (but mail sent from my iPhone does show up) The same flurry of extra IMAP-related folders has also appeared, including the "Sent Messages" folder, just below the "Sent" folder.
So, it doesn't seem to be a .mac issue. I hadn't changed any settings today before I noticed that it started happening.

  • Cant read my encrypted sent mail

I'm able to send encrypted mail and have the recipients read it without any problems, however I'm unable to read those mails in my send folder.  All I see is the smime.p7m attachment. I can also read encrypted mail sent to me by others without any problems.
Any ideas why I cant read my own encrypted mail?  Started happening after upgrading to Mavericks and adding a new mail certificate for myself didn't resolve the problem.

First, the address associated with the S/MIME public key must exactly match the address to which you're trying to send the encrypted message. The matching is case-sensitive. "[email protected]" does not match "[email protected]".
The recipient's certificate must be valid: not self-signed, expired, or revoked. You can check the status of the certificate in Keychain Access (see below.)
If you can't encrypt messages to a valid address with a valid certificate, continue.
    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ First Aid
If the box labeled Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
Select Keychain from the menu bar and repair the keychain.
Quit and relaunch Mail. Test. If the problem isn't resolved, continue.
Export all S/MIME certificates, delete them from the keychain, and reimport. For instructions, select
              Help ▹ Keychain Access Help
from the menu bar and search for the term "export" in the help window. Export each certificate as an individual file; don't combine them into one big file.
Test again. If the test fails, delete all the certificates again, then reinstall them from fresh copies.
