Problem recognizing updgraded software of iPod

Hi all,
I had upgraded to the latest version of iTunes (7.1), but after a few weeks, it stopped loading completely. Instead, it began freezing 3/4 way through updating the library. I assume that the firmware on the iPod was also upgraded during the process.
I wasn't able to work my way around it, so I uninstalled ver. 7 and re-installed ver 6. Since then, iTunes opens perfectly (a relief).
Problem: iTunes refuses to recognize my iPod now, saying:
"The iPod cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 7.0 or later."
Obviously, I was having trouble with 7.1 so that's not an option I'd like to explore. Suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same problem. I'm running XP x64 which may contribute to the problem. I solved the problem by following the steps listed below:
Follow all the steps detailed at http://www.theanomaly.co.uk/?p=209
I then utilized iTunes to restore the iPod Shuffle
I left the checkbox ticked for "Automatically choose songs for my iPod"
As the iPod was filling, I clicked the "Settings" tab, scrolled down and ticked the box that says "enable disk use" and clicked "apply"
I've been rocking since!

There was a problem downloading the software for the ipod. Network connection timed out. This is for the latest ios for the iPod touch. Already walked through the steps to validate that all settings were correct with the firewall, Windows defender has been disabled. This has not been an issue with previous ios updates. Hi krazyfreshkid!
Try disconnecting your iPod from your computer.
Then, restart your computer. Force your iPod into disk mode, following the steps here:
    Putting iPod into disk mode
Then, when your computer has fully loaded up, connect your iPod to your computer.
To do still get that error message in iTunes?
Also, if that doesn't affect anything, these five iPod troubleshooting steps would be worth a try:

This did not work for me. I have a laptop that was running Windows XP, and it had no problems recognizing the iPod. I was having problems with XP, and rather then reinstall XP, I did a clean install of Vista. I did a settings transfer, so the new install of iTunes came already configured--I mention this since I don't know if it was a factor.
When I plugged in the iPod, I got the USB Device Not Recognized. The usbstor.inf file did not fix the problem. However, the solution at http://www.winvistabeta.com/groups/275128/ipod-usb-device-not-recognized/message .aspx did fix the problem. Do this:
    Reset the iPod:
    1. Unplug the iPod.
    2. Turn the hold switch to HOLD and then back to off.
    3. Hold the Center and Menu buttons for 6 seconds until you get the Apple logo when you release them.
    4. Plug in the iPod. It should now be recognized.
This worked fine for me the first time. Thanks! Jack

You are right this notebook model was delivered without OS.
Win7 64bit is supported for this notebook model and all necessary drivers, tools and utilities are available on Toshiba download page.
What I can say is that all this stuff must be installed in right install order. I know it sounds stupid now but I recommend you to make clean OS again and continue installation following this installation order:

  • Nano is not recognized by Itunes or Ipod loader

i have a 2gb black nano and it is not recognized by my home pc or work pc (running windows xp) by either itunes or ipod loader.
after browsing through some topics, i found a way to enable disk mode, this allowed my nano to be recognized by ipod loader. i proceeded to do a factory restore to this running the november version of ipod loader and it displays "do not disconnect" forever. so i restart it manually by select + menu, then find out that it is still not recognized by itunes or ipod loader. realizing that disk mode allowed ipod loader to work, i tried disk mode on itunes and it recognizes it! so basically, my question boils down to...
Should itunes and ipod loader automatically recognize the nano once its plugged in while it is in normal mode? or do i need to keep enabling disk mode to update through itunes and loader? how many people have this same behavior running xp? Thx!

Wow I'm surprised this is such a common problem... So for those who can't connect with itunes and iloader: does disk mode work for you? Hit the center button and play button simultaneously after you reset it (right when the apple logo first appears) to enable disk mode... For me, this works all the time when connecting, but I don't think this is normal since i used to be able to connect in normal mode... maybe someday apple will realize we don't all have Macs...

  • IOS 6 causing problems to my 4th gen iPod touch?

Are there any others like me out there? Okay I've updated my iPod touch approximately two days ago and now it's like the biggest regret of doing so. 1) when it was upgrading the software, my iPod touch went on froze for almost two hours and the upgrade wasn't loading. It only continued after a long while. 2) some of my apps suddenly "disappeared" 3) some of my apps crash when I try to open them (example: App Store, groupon, Facebook and even safari itself even though I only had one page loading) 4) everything became so laggy, my apps take almost forever to load, and whenever I type, it takes quite a while to show up especially in google search 5) sometimes my iPod just "crash" randomly and shows me a black screen for like 5 - 10 seconds and I can't do anything about it but wait until it recover.
iOS 5.1.1 was MUCH better compared to this. This is really a huge disappointment as it has greatly affected the productivity of my iPod touch. I hope your support team is able to recover and repair this damage caused by the upgrade. I look forward to a MUCH NEEDED IMPROVEMENT upgrade to counter this problem.

Have you tried doing a DFU restore in iTunes? To do a DFU restore, you will need to put the iPod into DFU mode by following this tutorial: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034

  • Video ipod being recognized as a photo ipod

Problem : I have a video ipod and in itunes when I try to transfer a video to the ipod it says it cannot be played on this ipod. When I try to edit the settings for videos for the ipod in itunes all the options are greyed out (I can't click anything). I'm assuming it's recognizing it as an older ipod, but I don't know how to fix this.
    Steps I've taken:
    1. Restore Ipod
    2. Reinsall itunes
    3. Reset Ipod
    4. Restart Computer
      Windows XP Pro

The settings are greyed out because you probably have your iPod set to manually manage your music.
If this is the case, then you need to manually manage your videos also (by Drag & Drop).
If you turn off manual updates for your audio, the video preferences will become selectable again.

  • ITunes not recognizing burning software

I do have burning software on my computer and I've never had a problem burning discs before. But now iTunes claims "disc burner or software not found". But I do still have burning software on my computer. The software came with my computer package so I am not in possession of the CD-ROM to reinstall. Does anyone know why iTunes would suddenly claim I don't have software and how to resolve this issue?

  • Huge problem after transfering songs from ipod to pc.

I'm a pc user. I guess I'm paying for not having a mac now.
I know this may not be the best forum to post in, but here it is:
I recently wanted to switch my itunes library's place on my hard disk - I cut the folder unadvertedly, pasted it, had an error - paste was incomplete!! I had lost about half my library!. No problem I still had my Ipod. I read a guide to transfer songs from the ipod to the pc that consists in revealing hidden folders and copying the "F00, F01.." folders. I did that. Now Itunes is filled with doubles and can't really bother to delete a thousand duplicates when my computer lags 5secs each time I delete a single song..
But the real problem is that now ALL my songs are named like in the ipod (FIUA, JDDH, ASHG, etc) and I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to get the names back, afap :/
    Thanks in advance!!
