Problem recording 2 instrument tracks at once - new user

I want to simultaneously record an EXS24 bass with my left hand and an EVP88 piano with my right.
So I:
check "Auto demix by channel...." in the "Settings/Recording/MIDI" page
set each track to its correct MIDI channel
arm both tracks to record
select track 1 or 2 in the arrangement window
record the two tracks, playing both hands together on the downbeat
The first note played on the un-selected track is always delayed noticeably, throwing my playing off. I have a couple of midi keyboards - they both do this. The only workaround I've found is to start the count-in a bar early and play a note with each hand to be thrown away.
I'm using the latest version of Logic Pro 9 with an Apogee Duet.

This is a Logic issue that needs fixing. The work-around is to record (for example) a bit of MIDI controller data like a mod wheel movement during the count-off period. That will kick start the MIDI instruments without being audible.

I use an Edirol FA-66 with a MacBook with no problems at all, except it sounds a bit "thin"...

Hard problem. how to track which application a user opens next?

When the user runs my program,

Da Wanderer has posted code (in Visual Basic?) to open a folder. He says it is cross platform. I am stumped by the code for Linux. Does anyone know if it will work for Linux. ie. Can I use the same options to open a document in Linux?
I plan to use Runtime.exec similarly in Java, to open a doc.

Problem when trying to create a new user

Hi experts!!
I am working on EP 7.0 ABAP & JAVA stack, so the UME datasource is the R3_DATASOURCE.
When i try to create to create a new user from the portal i get the following message:
Current user has user creation permissions in the UME, but cannot create users in the back-end system (data source). The original and possibly untranslated message was: "No active writeable datasource found for user creation, check your Persistence Configuration.".
But i am actually able to create users to the ABAP client.
Any ideas???

The file dataSourceConfiguration_abap.xml enables you to create users only in the ABAP system. Once the UME is configured to use the AS ABAP as a data source, you cannot create users in the database of the AS Java; though you can still delete and edit existing users. ABAP roles determine your write access to the ABAP user management. If you have read-only access, you cannot create any users. The UME does not default to creating users in the local database of the AS Java. Nor can you edit or delete users in the AS ABAP without read-write access.

Problem with the creation of a new user

Hi!
II want to create new user in the database but i have this message: this entry already exists in the following tables (CUMI).
This user doesn't exists and we haven't deleted users.
When I am going to see in the table OUSR I have 19 users
But when I am going to see the table CUMI, it recognises an user code 20!
when I use the orange arrow near the user code 20, nothing happens.

Trying to record multiple tracks at once with Mixer (Two Microphones)

I have a Alesis Multimix 4, and two microphones plugged into the mic 1 and mic two inputs. I am trying to record both, at the same time, to two distinct tracks. I set Device Class to ASIO in the Audio Hardware section, and delected ASIO4ALL v2 for the Device. My mixer (I assume) is showing up as USB Aduio CODEC in the ASIO4ALL settings. When I go back to my multitrack setting, I am given four options for incoming audio:
Audio Front Mic Input 1
Audio Front Mic Input 2
USB Audio CODEC 1
USB Audio Codec 2
No matter what combination I try, when I record, both tracks pick up both microphones. My goal is to isolate both, so I can apply different settings to both tracks later on, adjust in the mix etc... The audio only comes through when I pick the USB Audio option. Thanks in advance.

I think you've got the right driver selected, otherwise it wouln't work at all. The single most obvious thing to ask you though (I'm sorry if this is too basic) is where you have the pan controls set to? To get each mic to record on a single channel, you'd have to have one panned hard left and the other panned hard right. If you leave them both panned dead centre, that's exactly what you get - both mics on both channels.

Can I play 2 instruments/tracks at once?

Is there a way to achieve this: Play my guitar through one of the amp sims (via my Tascam IU2) and also be able to play one of the built-in keyboard instruments?
I'm basically trying to use this setup at band rehearsal instead of lugging my gear. I normally play through a POD HD500 and a Roland Guitar synth. I mainly use the synth to play a keyboard part during part of a song or maybe a sax solo, etc. If I could somehow keep the guitar 'live' and somehow switch to the keyboard track that would be ideal. Any ideas of if this is possible? Or even using a second app for the keyboard synth and keep the guitar from Garageband running in the background.

Ok, tried the Jam feature and it didn't work as I had hoped. I had GB running on my iPod 4th Gen. I had my guitar hooked up to it via the Tascam iU2 and was playing a guitar sim. I then ran GB on my iPad and was running one of the keyboards. I initiated a Jam session on the ipod and joined the session from the ipad. I had thought that by playing the keyboard on the ipad it would transmit the activity to the ipod and the ipod would actually produce the sound (kind of like midi via the airwaves). But that's not how it worked. The ipad still generated the sound itself. I thought maybe you had to actually be recording in order for it to work the way I wanted, but no. When recording the ipad actually started when I hit record on the ipod and recorded its own part. When I hit stop, the ipod 'gathered' the performance info from the ipad and generated a new track with the keyboard info. Which is great, but not what I was trying to achieve. Oh well. Doesn't look like there's any way to do this, bummer.

Problem recording two track simultaneously

I'm a beginner with Logic Express 8. I create a new project with two tracks to record my guitar using one mic and and the DI output on the amp. I use a Presonus Firebox connected with a firewire cable. When I press the the "R" button on the second track it turns off the "R" button on the first track and vice versa.... what's wrong?

Serious problem recording guitar tracks! I can't get them tight!

I am a good player and have recorded quite a bit in my life, but I can't for the life of me get these part to lock with everything else. I'm using a click and also playing to drums and keys. It feels tight and feels like it is locking when playing but upon playback, at least for my ears it is not there. I've had this problem before and literally had to shift the region to get it to lock a little better.
Could it be something with latency, what I am playing and feeling is not what is going down to tape, or hard disk?

Max NUmber of Instrument Tracks Due to Rewire??

I have a template set up with 28 audio objects (that were previously instrument tracks) dedicated to rewire tracks (basically 14 pairs stereo bussed to an Aux). When i try to create a new audio object and assign it to an available instrument track, and then insert a soft synth, i cannot actually play the soft synth with my midi controller. i can step enter notes by creating a sequencer track, but as far as playing it manually from my Radium 49, no dice. My transport is not showing note-on values either. But i can play my rewire tracks just fine.
Am i doing something wrong here? Is it becuase i used all of my instrument tracks to create the 14 pairs for rewire? But if i create a new track (which creates an available audio track that i convert to an audio instruement track in the instrument paramater box in the arrange window) there are over 120 available instrument tracks for me to choose from!
i'm very confused - can anyone help? how can i add more instruement tracks for me to use in addition to my rewired tracks??

Apple limits GB to 8 simultaneous inputs max as a way to distinguish it, as a free app, from Logic, which does not have this limit. All of the full-featured DAWS - Logic, DP, Protools - allow many-track recording.
If you have 7 mics on drums, you might want to send them into a stereo buss in your board so they will only take up 2 tracks in GB (submixing drums is not unheard of). That brings you down to 9 tracks so if you want to record in GB, you're almost there (1 more submix and it'll work).
Beyond that, though, if you're going to want to regularly record more than 8 tracks at once, you might want to consider moving to one of the fuller-featured DAWs.

How do i copy library items to a new users when my finder wont open?

i had the problem of my finder opening and closing constantly, i got told i need to create a new user which i did, the finder problem does not occurr in the new user, i then got told i need to copy my library items i want over to the new users but i cannot do that because the finder keeps closing my windows, any tips on how to access these folders not through the finder?

if finder is quitting unexpectedly during use, this is not a good thing.
if it is not persisting in a new user, then it is a corrupt user preference.
there are ways of accessing the data you are looking for without using finder, but if you are going to go that route, you may as well try and fix the finder issue you are having.
you will need to do all this through terminal.
you can probably just rename the ~/library/preferences folder to preferences.old then restart and log in to your user. and then it should work. the draw back to this, is you will lose your preferences. but you can always move over the ones you want back throught the finder window once it is working again.

Having trouble with I-Tunes, Please Help!!!!!!!! New User

Hi, im having continous problems with i tunes im a new user and im finding very hard to work out how me and my girlfriend can use i tunes with different i pods. Im sure their is a way we can use the same program without having to keep deleting each others music and adding it all over again. Can someone please advise how we can both use i tunes from the same program/computer and have our own library of music without the others music be downloading onto the wrong i pods.

There are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
a) Sharing a single iTunes library and user account.
b) Creating multiple user accounts and having separate libraries.
Sharing a Library
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):

Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod

Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

Recording 2 tracks simultaneously?????

I'm having trouble recording 2 tracks simultaneously in Logic Pro 7. I'm recording a podcast and want to record 2 separate mic's, one for each host.
I have the Lexicon Lambda audio recording interface.
For some reason i cant figure out how to select "Input 2" for my "Track 2". I guess that's really all i need to know how to do........ select "Input 2". I've seached throughout the program and clicked everywhere and just cant seem to figure out how to select it. I click on the bar that says "Input 1", but nothing happens.
Even if i do figure out how to select "Input 2" (which i think i did one night), will i be able to record 2 tracks at once, using 2 different inputs?
This is driving me nuts......... it seems so easy, but i just cant figure it out!!!

So I've made progress..... In the menu of the Audio window on the left where it says "Channel: Track 2", I click on the little arrows and I am able to select "Input 2". But then the window underneath the Audio window (the window with the level meter) changes a bit.
I am able to highlight the record button on both tracks 1 and 2, and i'm showing separate volume readings for each...... so everything is good so far.
The problem comes when i actually hit record. I hit record, and the cursor runs, but nothing gets recorded. No waveforms pop up. I've figured that this only happens when i have "Input 2" selected.
Track 1 still will record, but only if it's record button is highlighted by itself.
This is driving me insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have noticed that in any track that i have "Input 2" selected, the little snowflake button dissapears, as well. This snowflake button is next to the mute and record buttons in the track window. I dont even know what this snowflake button does. Is it a "solo" button? Button. Button. Button.
Does anybody know what is going on??
Do I need to select some kind of "Stereo" setting or something in my Preferences?

Outlook Anywhere Trouble for new users

Hello,
My client had Exchange 2010 SP3, lastest rollup. He has Outlook Anywhere enabled and all of his users, except a new one he created a few days ago, have no problem accessing their mailboxes.
This new user experiences a problem, once she goes home and tries to open her Outlook 2010, a User\Password prompt appears which does not go away even when you get it right. Eventually after 3 attempts usually, it goes away but outlook opens up disconnected.
There is this Error event - MSExchangeAL id 8364, on the exchange server, and it does correspond to our problem. although, no valid solution is given for it, wherever i've searched.
We've tried Changing authentication methods from Basic to NTLM to Negotiate and to Basic back again, tried disabling the "Encrypt data between Outlook and Exchange", We've tries online mode, it does not even open outlook. it gives us an error regarding
a bad ost file. If outlook does allow the user in, it's only in cached mode and it immeditaly changes status from "Trying to connect..." to "Disconnected". We've checked the checkbox of "On slow connections use....". OWA Works.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

According to your description, only one your user cannot use Outlook Anywhere to connect to the server. If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to let me know.
If yes, I recommend you firstly troubleshoot if the issue is related to the certain Outlook client:
Recreate a new profile for the problematic users or change another computer to reconfigure the account.
Additionally, you can also use ExRCA to check the Outlook Anywhere connectivity:
