Problem recording stereo vocals

i'm having a problem recording from my usual midi input with a Shure stereo microphone.
the system is set for audio input from the midi microphone, and it appears to be recording in stereo (both tracks are visible in the soundwave), but once the record button is stopped, the L track disappears, and only the R track plays and shows up in playback.
i am using the m-audio prokeys sono to route the microphone through -- never had this problem before now.

i shouldn't have said the Shure SM57 was stereo.  it's probably mono like all mics.  all i'm saying is that i've used it plenty, setting it to stereo, and getting records levels on both L and R channels, and R/L waveforms in the track window.
now the audio only seems to be recording on the L (i had it backwards in the original post), with only the faintest sound and no graphic waveforms on the R.
i could probably "solve" this by recording on the mono 1 (L) channel, but that's not how i did it before, so it's really got me bugged.

  • Problem with STEREO track

    hi everyone.
this is a really dumn question since i used to do this all the time is Sonar.
i recorded some vocals and it only recorded in one channel. i could always hit the infinity button to make it mono so i can hear it on both speakers. however, isn't there some effect i can add to get sound on both channels and keep it the stereo track? i'm using the tascam us-122 as an interface and for some reason it only allows you to record on either the L or R. not both of them at the same time. any ideas?

Next time record the mic on two seperate tracks and set the track delay to taste on one of the tracks. Or -quick fix, copy the region to another audio track and set the track delay as above. Use pitch changer to drop or raise the pitch one cent or two (keep it subtle or it will ruin the vocal track). Next ime, you could also use two mics, one a condenser for direct (or ribbon or tube) and a dynamic pointed slightly off center (just becareful to watch for phase issues) small dead rooms work best because they minimize reflections and capture the "dry sound" More track delay can always be added to spread the stereo effect. I find that the spreader plug-ins are good for instruments but deadly to vocals. Your lead vocals have to be kept pure unless you are distorting on purpose. Megabucks are spent on mics and vocal processors by the larger studios for just this purpose. Two or three mics are always better than artificial effects. Try using your best mic in the usual place and set two ambient mics panned hard L/R - watch the phase and enjoy

  • Problems with stereo audio tracks

I'm recording from an external synthesizer, and it sounds really weak when I record in mono. So I switch over to stereo, where I record on Audio 1 on the track list (as it now represents the left side, while Audio 2 on the track list represents the right).
After recording, I copy the recorded region onto Audio 2 to create the stereo effect (i.e. Audio 1 = left side, Audio 2 = right side). Audio 2 is controlled by stereo object "Track 1-2," which is set in Audio 1 (where I originally recorded the external sound).
    But...
My problem is I'm not hearing any sound on the right side, or at all when I copy and paste the recorded region from Audio 1 to Audio 2. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or if I have to set the parameters so that Audio 2 actually plays the right side of my "Track 1-2" stereo set-up from Audio 1.
    Thanks for any help!

1: if something is stereo record it as stereo and if mono record as mono
2: recording mono and changing it to stereo won't make sense because its the same channel on two sides it'll still sound mono
3: recording stereo then switching the channel to mono is not a good idea because if the the both sides are phase then it'll sound weird because you'll only get the both soft sides in the centre or both loud sides in the centre
I'll rather use direct mixer plug-in for this type of job or I'll force split the stereo file then put them on two separate tracks then centre the pan on both tracks
my English is not that good but i hope you got what i mean
or get a cable which is 1 stereo 6.5 jack to two RCA left and right or two Mono 6.5 Jacks left and right
this way headphone out from the external gear to two channels (unbalanced) in your interface to logic
then select which input they are then hit record
doing this way will make sure anything you hear in headphone is what ever you'll record

  • Recording Stereo with USB Alesis multimix 12

I'm interesting in recording my guitar in stereo (with a condenser pair) while also recording vocals from a different mic. With my Alesis multimix mixer, i can only record 2 spereate tracks into logic by panning one to the left and one to the right. Is there anyway i can record stereo using 2 mics for my guitar and one for my voice?

No, there is no way to record them separately unless you record your guitar parts first then do a second recording with your vocals while your Mac plays back the recorded guitar parts (via headphone preferably). The Alesis MultiMix USB can only do stereo recording and playback at the same time.

  • Recording audio (vocals, voice overs) setup help

    Hello Everyone;
having a hard time setting up a recording. The problems I’m having are of the following
    A. Every time I record audio/vocal over a beat the artist is able to hear their audio while recording live. I’m trying to have the artist hear the beat and sing over it without hearing their own vocals while recording.
    B. I also would like to setup headphone capabilities for my artist and myself while doing live recording. In the past I’ve seen on previous tutorials that shown how to achieve the tasks but...I’ve forgotten!!!
    PLEASE HELP!! THANK YOU!!!!
    My set up consists of

Try muting the track that you are recording onto I think.

Does your sound card have a headphone output? If it does connect a female single to double jac adapter so you can attach 2 pairs of headphones.

  • Recording audio (vocals and acoustic guitar) on logic for youtube.

hey guys, im looking to post some videos on youtube, but instead of just simple playing into a camera, i want the audio to be recorded into my mic.
an example of what i'd like to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieu3jSr_CDA
then i can input the audio into the video.
how do i play my guitar live with my vocals though?
    please help me !!!

    The poor man's way:
    1. get your mic and guitar plugged into separate channel strips in Logic (I think the guy in the YouTube video had a pickup in his acoustic, and was running that into his DAW, and the vocal mic was a separate track
    2. have your camera set up and ready to go, and Logic ready to record the vocal and guitar
    3. start record on video and Logic
    4. clap your hands a few times before starting your song .... helps for syncing up later
    5. mix down and bounce your logic audio to a stereo file
    6. in iMovie (or the like), with your video track open and in place, import your audio track
    7. manually "slide" your logic audio back and forth in time until it syncs with your video
    8. post online and wait for MTV calls

  • Recording STEREO AUDIO

I have a rode NTK condensor mic and an audio technica MB 2000L dynamic mic. Could I theortically record some decent stereo by using both of these? can i place them relatively close together while recording? I mainly want to record stereo acoustic guitar but maybe mess around with some stereo vocals too.

If you do try a stereo track...
    Mic Placement:
As you're seated holding the guitar, use the NTK on your left side aimed at the 14th fret, a little above the guitars height, do not point it directly at the sound hole, the dynamic on your right, same height point it slightly back of the bridge, favoring the treble side.
Experiment with mic distance from the guitar, 3 feet away will give you more room sound, 1 foot away, more direct guitar sound.
I would use two mono tracks so each track can be eq'd separately, use a sing;e reverb on a bus for a bit of room polish. Don't forget to pan the the mono tracks to taste.
pancenter- (but not in this case)

HEY MODS... who is posting the support article number in the header...
The one posted in this topic is evem more unhelpful than some of my curt replies.
Bad idea, most of Logic's problems are not covered by support articles.

  • Recording live vocals using loopback

I would like to record live vocals through mainstage2 using the loopback plugin. Hoping to record multiple loops to play around with layering vocals and harmonies. Is this possible? I'm a brand new mainstage user and have no idea how to do this. If this is at all possible, can someone give me the step-by-step process on how to set this up?

Firstly, I have no ideal whether you want to perform a live broadcast. If so, you may not need to save the content as a file, but you will need a rebroadcast server.
Ok, for your encoding problem, if you are using JMF to implement your application, please notice that JMF does support a limited set of AVI payload/encodings. If the encoding doesn't match with the playing client, then obviously it can't be played. Try go to JMF page to see the supported encodings you can choose.

  • Error message while recording a vocal track

While recording a vocal track through a mic attached to a MOTU interface it will record a little then an error message comes up saying "Error while trying to sync audio and midi" I've tried changing buffer size anything else?

    Hi Anamika,
If you are running your query in Web Portal, it seems your web portal is not defined in RFC connection with system. Ask BASIS to connect it.
Also, You can run your report in RSRT with ABAP Web option and check if it is working on ABAP engine.

guess what it says java file. So yes i'm sure. Sarcasm. Not the best way to encourage a total stranger to help you. Then there's
Sorry if i wasn't more clear but was that response needed? No it wasn't needed, but I'm not the one asking for help so I have the luxury of not worrying too much about it. It's extremely frustrating trying to drag relevant information out of someone, and makes one less inclined to bother.
Anyways, there's still nothing in this thread that actually explicitly says "there is a file called VolcanoApp.java in the directory where I'm running javac from" and I really can't be bothered banging my head against the wall any longer. You've made a silly mistake, or a false assumption. We all do it from time to time. My advice is, take a break, go for a walk and re-visit this in a while. You'll probably spot the mistake right away.
