Problem recording voiceover in Imovie 4

Is there anyone out there who might know why my iMovie is not responding to voice recordings. my microphone is working perfectly (I see a signal indicating this). Basically there is a temporary freeze when I click the record button, then the audio time line seems to indicate it is recording but then when I try to play it back there is nothing. Has anybody else had this problem and worked out why this is happening?

Hi Chris:
How much RAM do you have?
It Could be that you need to run a disk repair. Look in Utilities=>Disk Repair.
That will help clean up th efiles and give you more space.
Post again if you stil have a problem.

  • Problem recording audio in iMovie

I am currently having problems recording a voice over in iMovie. I have checked the The system settings and it is recognizing my usb microphone as the source for input. I can also record audio within another project, just not in the one I want to. This makes me think something has been changed within the project settings. Any suggestions?

If the QT movies"that iMovie generates" are fine, then your DVDs that iMovie makes may be fine since iDVD uses QT movies. I would try one, SHare to MEdia Browser at the highest resolution (this can take hours) then open iDVD and migrate to that movie, drag it into iDVD window and burn and see.

  • Cannot record voiceover in iMovie 08

Help! I believe I'm following all the right steps to record voiceover with my video. When I click the microphone button that brings up the voiceover control window, the bottom window with the videos gets darkened out, and I cannot click in the project to start the recording.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks

    Hi
Did You first select - Microphone in in System Preferences ?
Under the Apple left hand top corner. Down to System Pref.
Here select Audio - Audio in - and Microphone.
    Think it might help.

  • Record voiceover problem - blank clips laid down

Hello all, bit of a curious problem. I am using the FCP X record voiceover facility but after making a recording, the track laid down is mute / blank. It has no waveform at all, as if nothing has been laid down. This has happened with every attempt ,so I have reinstalled FCP X and tried again. Same each time since. The recording process appears to be working normally but nothing is in the track clip that has been laid down.
I have also used the Quicktime Player audio recording facility to test my computer. It all worked fine and I imported the quicktime audio to the storyline on FCP and played it back no problem. So what could be causing the issue here ?
I have also tried another USB mic system that was working fine on another computer with FCP. That didn't work on my laptop either, same problem, goes through the motions, appears to make a recording and then you discover nothing is in the clip. I also tested my Shure kit on the other computer , it all worked fine, as you would expect.
I am using FCP X and a Coles Lip mic , a Shure X2U USB pre amp and a Shure mic to line amp to drive the mic before the Shure unit as on it's own it is quite hissy.
Appears that the Shure X2U is driverless post 10.4.
Any help would be gratefully received ,
    Cheers

Thanks, have been through this. None of the mics attached to FCP end up recording a vo. I have changed the system settings each time to show my Shure preamp, my Blue Snow Ball USB mic and have even tried to use my internal mic on the laptop to record a VO.All of them have been correctly selected for VO, they appear to make a recording but when you play back the new clip , there is nothing contained in it . There is no waveform and no audio , just a blank empty green space ! I can make a quicktime recording on the same laptop using any of my mics etc and import it to the timeline , no issue. I have also used my all my mics on another FCP set up and they have worked first time. The issue is with my FCP on my laptop. I have even reinstalled FCP and still the same.

  • High pitch whine when recording audio & voiceover in iMovie

I have read other posts on similar issues but found no resolution
    Issue:
When recording video in iMovie there is sometimes a high-pitched whine which renders the video useless.
The problem was intermittent ... annoying but I wokred around it by re-recording the video enough times to finally get a "clean" copy.
Now I am recording voice-overs for some clips and the awful whine is present in ALL the voice-overs.
I have tried the "trick" of using brighter light.  No joy.
I have tried adjusting the microphone settings.  No joy.
THis is an older macbook ... so I can't trade-in for a new one on warrantee.
Is Mac's internal microphone defective?  I have read enough other people have similar issues to think this.
I am doing educational videos.  My initial joy at being able to record a video on my macbook is changing to despair as I have wasted hours of time on tech problems like this.
    Anyone have a real fix?
Is the built-in camera and mic just shoddy junk which doesn't work well?
    Thank you

Did you do the usual stuff, such as reset PRAM?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
There are some sound settings in PRAM, although I think it's only for sound output.
Also, as a test, I would create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account (do not use Fast User Switching). In the new account, try recording something using QuickTime, and note if this problem recurs. If it does not, you have eliminated a few possible causes, such as a problem with the overall system installation or a hardware issue, and isolated the problem to something in your normal user account.

  • Record Video in iMovie 09 with Audio From Garageband

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to record a guitar video using iMovie 09 and am having a few problems.
I plugged my POD X3 into my Mac and opened up Garageband, I imported the backing track into Garageband as I wanted to record myself playing over it. I set the audio in both System Preferences and Garageband preferences to have the audio input and output coming through the POD X3.
I hit record on iMovie and I got the sound of my guitar perfectly but no backing track! When I tried to import the backing track into iMovie I can't get it to sync up... Anyone have any ideas?

???? Why are you hitting record in iMovie?? It has nothing to do with GB!
I thing what you want to do is: Import the backing track into iMovie and place it in the project as needed.
To record yourself in iMovie, use Voice Over:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie-voiceover
Otherwise, record yourself as an instrument in GB and export the combined backing track and yourself to a single audio file (i.e. Share to iTunes - uncompressed - and your recording will be available directly from the iMovie media browser). Place the combined file where you need it in the iMovie project. This gives you that advantage of having access the GB amp modeler and stomp boxes.

  • Premiere Pro crashes whenever I enable my onboard microphone for recording voiceover

I wanted to record a voiceover to an edited piece - it's not important the quality of my voiceover, so I planned to record using the onboard microphone on my Macbook Pro (OS10.6.6, 2.66 GHz Interl Core i7, 8GB RAM).
If I go into Preferences > Audio Hardware and select Built-In Input it crashes Premiere Pro.  I've submitted a crash report - but wonder if anyone has encountered anything similar or might know what I might do to avoid this or what might be causing the problem.  I know that I have recorded voiceover before using the onboard microphone so this seems strange.  (I've checked and the same problem occurs in After Effects - and it happens anytime I select one of the options that includes my onboard input.  I am able to use my built-in microphone with other applications such as quicktime and camtasia, and no problems).

Has anyone encountered this problem or have any ideas how to fix it?  I've seen several other people complain about the same or similar issues on other forums but can't find any solutions.  I ended up needing to export my video from Premiere Pro and then add the voiceover in iMovie, and I really would have preferred to remain in PP.  I'm confident it's not a hardware issue, so wonder whether anyone has any ideas about how to fix it...?

  • Final Cut Pro X won't record voiceover

I was using FCPX 10.1.3 when this problem appeared, now I'm on 10.1.4 and it wasn't fixed.
Here's the summary: when I open a "Record Voiceover" window everything works fine, I can select different input devices, set up event, I can even hear myself with Monitor enabled. But when I start recording I can see, that the audio file on the timeline is empty. After the recording stops I check it and it is empty. It literally didn't record my sound. I've tried different microphones and channels - nothing helped. I've tried to search the answer on Google and Apple Support, but was unable to find something that helped anyone. I also saw that many people have this problem, but I guess no one has posted the solution yet.
I tried to delete the whole FCPX including Caches, PLISTs and other stuff hidden in Application Support. The only thing left was, obviously, Projects and Events. After reinstalling the app Voiceover still didn't work. I've also tried to change the System Language to English (my native language is Russian), but it also didn't help.
The only answer on Apple Communities I found was "deleting the whole system or creating a new user", but I don't want to do it yet (also no one said that will work) because I want to try to find the right answer (or wait until Apple finally fixes it).
I am using FCPX 10.1.4 on iMac 27" mid 2011

Since this works for other users, there must be something on your system.
You say you did a clean install. Did you try this immediately after installing?
I ask this because if you did a clean install but then used Migration Assistant to bring back your user account, then you probably brough back the problem also!
You never said if you tried doing a voice over from a different user account on the same system.  If you didn't, then I can only suggest you try it now.
To create a new account, open System Preferences, click on "Users & Groups", click the padlock if necessary to allow changes, and hit the plus button to create a new user. Then login as that user and try a voiceover. I am guessing it will work.

I have recorded a whole lot of videos on my iPad mini using the recording feature of iMovie and the problem is these videos are not visible in iPhoto, so my question is, how can i import these videos from my iPad mini to macbook?

  • Record Voiceover is not enabled

I'd like to record a voiceover in iMovie 10 but the option is not enabled even after first clicking in the Movie.  Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Ben,
Thanks for replying.   The movie I was trying to add a voiceover to had been updated from the previous version of iMovie.   I was trying to access the "Record Voiceover" menu entry when the old media was selected in the "iMovie Library" library folder.  I've just realised there's an "Updated Projects" folder too, and when I select the updated version of the project in there, the menu entry is enabled.  So thanks for making me re-look at the Project side of things.
    Cheers,
    Dave

  • Says I can't import recorded sound into iMovie because I the files don't have iLife preview

    Hi,
I am trying to either record sound directly onto iMovie to use as a voiceover or record on Garageband and then import it to iMovie. I have not found a way to record on iMovie, so I was trying to do it on garageband, but when I try to open the file on iMovie, it says I can not because it does not have iLife preview. I have a new Macbook Pro with Retina Display.
    Thank you!

    Hi avalewinter,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to record a voiceover directly in iMovie. To accomplish this, please use the instructions located in the attached article.
iMovie (2013): Add audio and music
    Record a voiceover
You can record your own narration to add to your movie.
Position the playhead where you want to start recording in the timeline, and choose Window > Record Voiceover. The voiceover recording controls appear below the viewer.
To adjust the recording settings, do any of the following:
To change the input device: Click the Voiceover Options button, and choose an option from the Input Source pop-up menu.
To adjust the input level of the microphone: Click the Voiceover Options button, and drag the Volume slider right to increase the volume of what is being recorded, or left to decrease it. You can monitor the audio levels by using the built-in audio meter on the Record button. You should set the volume so that the audio meter in the microphone (the Record button) stays green, even when your voice is at its loudest.
To mute sound from other clips while recording: Click the Voiceover Options button, and select the Mute Project checkbox.
To start recording, click the Record button.
To stop recording, click the Record button again (or press the Space bar). The recorded audio appears as a new clip in the timeline, above the background music. The voiceover clip is attached to the clip that was below the playhead when the recording was started. The track is named VO: Movie Name - Date, where “Movie Name” is the name of your movie, and “Date” is the date of the recording.
Click the close button to dismiss the voiceover recording controls.
    Best regards,
    Joe

  • Make a voiceover in iMovie HD 6

    Hi!
I wonder if there is a bug in iMovie HD 6?
When I try to make a voiceover nothing happens. There is no sound recorded. I have done it thousands of times before in earlier versions of iMovie, but now I just can't do it...
Is there anyone out there who can help me?
    /Johanna

I think I've just some other bugs...
I connected my iSight and changed the audio settings in System Preferences.
When I record a voiceover in iMovie the purple line was created, but when I press space bar to play the movie the program freezes (hangs up).
I can press the button for showing the movie in full screen but there is no sound. And the first time I try to show the movie in full screen the screen is white. It works if I press esc and the full screen button again (The movie is shown in full size but there is still no sound).
I don't know what to do...
    /Johanna

  • Recording audio with iMovie '09???

Hi there, I've been recording some stuff through my webcam using iMovie...but there is no audio. There isn't even an option I need to select in order to start getting audio! What do I do?

    Welcome to Disccussions, wanno101
If your audio still does not record after you follow after you follow JG99's excellent advice, check your iMovie voiceover setting to be sure you are using the correct "Record From:" source as shown in this image:
This is where you select the voice recording source in iMovie 8 (from iLife '09).

  • Problems Recording Video with Photo Booth

    Macbook Details:
    OS X Yosemite
    Version 10.10.2
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011)
Processor 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Photo Booth: Version 7.0 (724)
Some background: It all started going downhill for my laptop when I got a "Service Battery" warning back in December. Thought it could possibly be a glitch from the new OS. In any case, they told me to wait it out till the Full Charge Capacity reaches the 2000s. It's currently at around 4225 and slowly steadily decreasing. I can't keep many applications open at one given time.
The problem: Built-in camera is working fine with Skype, FaceTime, etc. Photo Booth pictures are fine as well. Simply unable to record any video with PB. It will sometimes record, but during recording, the image freezes. Upon playback, the image is frozen for the entire video, and audio lags or skips around. Today it froze and actually sat frozen all day while I continued to use other applications.
Is there anything I can do??

You can't record video with PhotoBooth, you can record video with iMovie, or you can record with Quicktime if you have the Pro version. I would suggest using iMovie, create an MPEG-4 project, record your footage, drag your recorded clips into the timeline, then choose the Share menu and choose Email.
Baby footage will be on its way to the grandparents in no time!
