Problem Reinstalling Firefox on IMAC, only get Google Search on opening

Need Help-I am familiar with using Firefox on my IMAC but recently had to reinstall it (have tried several times to do this) but, when trying to open what appears to be a successful installation, I only get a Google Search window that has the Firefox symbal to the right of a search blank and above the box it says "FIREFOX START." The Firefox options to be typed in the box doesn' t lead to anything familiar, that is to my familiar Firefox brouser window.

One reason for this can be if the new window contains Flash media, but Flash hasn't been used for several minutes, the Adobe protected mode feature changes the order of the windows. This is a bug that Adobe has yet to fix. This thread describes the problem in more details and lists the known workarounds: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/955659 Opening New Windows and Shockwave Flash].
If you rule out the Flash issue, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
Any difference?

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

  • Can't get Google search bar to shut off.

I am having a problem getting Google search bar to shut off once the parental controls have been turned on. I'm not sure if its a preferences problem or not. Anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi Zane,
There are two Safari preference files, one for each account. To access either via the Finder, you need to be logged-in to that account.
Not sure what type of parental control you established for the second user account? If the Finder is not accessible in that account, then you'll need to return to your Regular User Account>System Preferences>Accounts. There, go to the Parental Control panel>Finder. Make the necessary adjustments to allow access to the Finder. Also, make sure "Safari" is selected.
Once done, log-in to the other user account.
There, go to the Finder. The com.apple.safari.plist file may be found in the User Account>Library>Preferences file. Move it to the trash. Then, restart Safari. Safari automatically creates a new preference file with default values.
In Safari, no "Google Search Bar" ought to be on the Tool Bar in the Safari window. If it is there, post back. Otherwise, you'll need to reset your parental controls via the Preferences file in the Safari Menu.

  • Problem with 5.1 sound, only getting stereo [Geforce GT 610]

Hi, this is going to be a bit long, but bear with me.
    HARDWARE
    HTPC:
    - Corsair VX 450W, PSU
    - Gigabyte GA-EG45M-DS2H, motherboard
    - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, CPU
    - Kingston HyperX DDR2-800 4 GB (2×2048), RAM
& - Asus Geforce GT 610 (installed today)
    SOUND SYSTEM:
    - Samsung HT-TXQ120
    HISTORY
I have an old HTPC build I want to use again (been in storage for a year while living away). It was previously running Ubuntu, and was connected to my (also old) Samsung HT-TXQ120. The audio connected to the HT-TXQ120 via SP/DIFF and HDMI directly to my HDTV. Back when I first configured this the intel drivers were buggy with both audio and video on HDMI at the same time therefor the SP/DIFF. This setup worked fine for years.
Fast forward to today, and I want to get the HDMI audio/video working.
    - The intel g45 sort of works, but the audio drops a few seconds every 2 minutes. I have not managed to get this working.
    - I was a bit fed up, so I researched for recommended video/audio card for HTPC and saw that Asus Geforce GT 610 was recommended and cheap. I bought that, and installed it. Uninstalled all intel drivers, and installed nvidia ones. So far so good.
    PROBLEM
The new card will not output 5.1 sound to my HT-TXQ120. 5.1 surround output shows up in the sound preferences, but when I test it I only get sound on my front left and front right channel. The rest is silent. I have tried with speakertest, test in audio settings, VLC, mplayer, XBMC and Plex.
Any help to get for this issue? Is the only solution to go back to using HDMI for video only, and sound through SP/DIFF?

    Two things to check:
    1) Open the "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel. On the Volume tab, click the "Advanced" button. Is the speaker setup "5.1.."?
    2) Open the quicktime control panel. On the "Audio" tab, check that the Channels is 5.1.
If you changed either of the above settings, restart the application you're testing with and try again.
If that doesn't work, try checking the "safe mode (waveout only)" box in the Quicktime control panel (audio tab). Again, restart the application and try again.
    Hope that helps,
    Rob

  • Firefox loads blank page off google search only on some stes

google search results are found ok, some links load to website other selected links load a blank screen, obout 25% of sites fail to load, internet explorer browser WILL load sites that fail on Firefox.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
    <b> To Enable SafeMode </b>
*You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
*''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox"; Linux: "Firefox/File > Quit")

  • I've used Firefox for years w/no problem but now I can't get a window to open I still get the menu bar on top. When I try to click open a new window nothing happens. I have a Mac.

I never have problems with Firefox before. I usually don't put my Mac on sleep mode but I did do that last night. I don't know if that caused the problem or not. I tried to restart my computer thinking that might help but it didn't.

    Try:

You can also try to move (delete) the Firefox plist file.<br />
See [http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060606082246983 How .plist files become corrupt and troubleshooting the results]<br />
Go to "Library > Preferences" and remove the plist file for Firefox (org.mozilla.firefox.plist).

  • Stop Firefox from reverting back to Google Search Results when opening a page from results list

When I click on one of the results from a Google search, I have it open the page in a new window. The page opens in the new window just fine, but instead of letting me view the page in the new window, Firefox takes me back to the Google Search results page. I am able to click on the new window and view the page that I chose, but it gets old being sent back to the search results each time I click on one of them and attempt to view it.
This happens on my work PC, home laptop, and my desktop at home as well. I have different versions running on each machine, and home laptop has the latest version of Firefox. I have searched the web and cannot find anyone having this same problem, much less a resolution, so I will ask here.
I hope this makes sense, if more info is needed please let me know.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

  • Multiple problems with Firefox 3.6.6 - Java Console, Flash, PDF & opening

running Windows XP with Firefox 3.6.6. I just upgraded to 3.6.6 & since then have been having multiple problems. 1) 3.6.6 takes a LONG time to load or hangs 2) As recommended Flash plugin updated to Flash 10.1. Subsequently Flash doesn't work. All I get when I use Firefox on any site is the F in a circle that indicates that flash is necessary to display the page. I have no problems with Flash on Google Chrome. 3) Java Console having issues. When 3.6.6 opens it says Java Console must be updated. So I update it. Then when it opens it says it's not supported & needs to be removed. Each time it wants me to restart Firefox to complete the task. If I say restart later cause I'm sick of opening & Closing again & again it pops up every 5-10 minutes & asks again. Please HELP!! 4) PDF files will not open since upgrade to 3.6.6. Having no issues with Google Chrome. It opens in miliseconds & runs everything but I prefer Firefox if it can be gotten to work right. Desperately need help.

If I use FireFox and view older post that were created with IE, the link is there but not the post from FF. It's only when I post using FF.

  • My default browser on Google Chrome was Google Search. Now it is AVG and Babylon. I want to get Google Search back. How do I get rid of AVG?

I watched a video on YouTube on how to cheat in this one online game to get unlimited amount of gold. I went to the website to download the system used to cheat: CheatEngine.com. I downloaded it, thinking it wouldn't do anything, but it did do something. When I realized it changed my default search engine, I deleted the program. It changed my search engine on Google Chrome from Google Search to Babylon and AVG. I really want Google Search back!! I have tried everything. Nothing works and I really want Google Search back. Can you help me?

Thank you so much for helping! But when i go to extensions, it says i don't have any! that makes me mad >:( stupid CheatEngine! Thanks anyway though!

  • How do I get google search in my Safari address bar?

I have a MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.  Apple store just reloaded the 10.7.  Everything works except that the google search is no longer in the Safari address bar.  How to I get that back?  Thanks.

Safari preferences, General icon, select preferred search engine from dropdown menu. Or do you mean the Search Field? If so, it's not used anymore. Use the URL field to search.
