Problem reinstalling Illustrator CS4 on Mac Intel

I had Illustrator CS4 installed in my Mac Mini Intel OS 10.6.8 and it worked fine, but I had to reinstall it and now I cannot print from Illustrator, it freezes Illustrator.
I already uninstalled using the Uninstaller and reinstalled it three times and the same problem remains.
If I open the Illustrator file in Photoshop CS4 I can print with no problem.

Illustrator acesses different parts of the .ppd so possibly could be part of the problem. Look at your print settings, try bitmapping everything, by sliding raster balance to rasters. Will say custom after you click ok, not medium resolution. Then check the Graphics tab above advanced and what postcritpt level you have set.
Is your iMac that works using the same exact .ppd?

Hi all,
When trying to install Illustrator CS4 on Mac OS X Yosemite, I receive an error: "required resources are missing."
Previously, I had problems using Illustrator CS4 when I upgraded to Yosemite, due to an error with the plugin "photoshopimport.aip." I had attempted to uninstall Illustrator, but the uninstall also gave me errors. I ultimately used the CC Cleaner Tool to remove Illustrator.
Now, however, I can't reinstall Illustrator CS4 either! I use the version provided on Adobe's website, so it's not a problem with a physical DVD.
Any ideas for potential solutions? Many thanks!

I don't have an Adobe installation log, and it's not hidden either. I tried installing Illustrator CS4 again, and I noticed that the install fails while ~80% through an "initializing" step. So, it fails before it even starts to generate an install log! I re-downloaded it and had the same error.
I did notice that I have some errors in the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool when I was removing Illustrator CS4. If you look at my first post, I couldn't use it, or uninstall it, so I simply used the Cleaner Tool to remove it. There are some errors in the Cleaner Tool log, such as this one:

Any other ideas? Or am I simply stuck??

Snap to Grid problem in Illustrator CS4

I found a weird problem with the "snap to grid" feature in Illustrator CS4 running on MAC OS X Snow Leopard.
To reproduce it, on my system, it is enough to:
1. Make sure to have the Snap To Grid enabled (View->Snap to grid)
2. Draw a rectangle (see BEGIN.JPG)
3. Select the Direct Selection Tool
4. Try to increase the width of the rectangle, by dragging one side of the shape (not a single point, but the whole side in a move).
5. On my system, I see that Illustrator behaves in a wrong way; it is like Illustrator is snapping to a not aligned grid, and the rectangle begins to be distorted (see END.JPG).
If I try to move a on point at a time, instead of moving one complete side, everything seems to works fine.

Win Vista 64-bit AI CS4. Can't seem to reproduce your issue. I drag on the right side of a rectangle with grid snap on and show grid and it snaps exactly to the grid, not anywhere in between even if I start with a rectangle that was created "not-on-grid". When it snaps it snaps to distances equal to the grid spacing, though it won't snap to the grid itself. It's as if it snaps to its own internal grid. I guess that's a problem in and of itself since once you have grid snapping turned on no matter where the original rectangle was you would like it to snap to the grid lines.
EDIT: Now I see how you created the problem--with direct selection (white arrow) as opposed to full selection with bounding box (black arrow). Black arrow selection snaps to its internal grid while white arrow snaps to rhombus-like snapping. I guess it's designed to be used with individual points and not with edges. (AI doesn't have edge-snapping).

Is there a way to change the default export filetype in Illustrator CS4 for Mac OSx

Hi,
I do a significant amount of exporting from Illustrator and always need my images exported as JPG. The default filetype for exporting in CS4 (for mac) is PNG, and I can't find a way to change this. Since I always want to export as JPG, I feel like I should be able to set that as a default.
Am I missing something? How can I change this default?

You can create an action.
Record the action then go to file export select jpeg and then the quality etc and then exort and stop recording the action give it a keyboard shortcut.

Problem printing InDesign (CS4) with MAC OS 10.8.2

I have just upgraded to OS 10.8.2 on my Mac and use Creative Suite CS4. I can no longer print from Illustrator or InDesign, when I go to the print command the applications crash before the dialoge box appears. I am still able to print Photoshop files.

I hawe the originale document and its ok, and when it's reopened in the reinstalled version, The content of the artborad which was made first and that is ok. Floats beyond artboards in the document when it is loaded again in the newly installed illustrator. There will not be made other than opening the document. It looks strange when it is the same version and everything seems to be the same.

Hoffe das mir jemand rasch bei meinem Problem mit dem Acroabt 9 Touchup-Objektwerkzeug und Illustrator CS4 helfen kann.
Ich habe seit heute das Phänomen, das wenn ich bei einem PDF etwas mit dem TouchUp-Objektwerkzeug anwähle und im Illustrator bearbeiten möchte, ich nach dem schliessen und speichern im Illustrator, im PDF das ausgewählte Objekt versetzt angezeigt wird und alle aus Illustrator anwählbaren Marken (Schnittmarken, Passermarken usw.) mit angezeigt und plaziert werde.

Das habe ich befürchtet.

In Illustrator CS4 in Mac OS 10.6.2 my windows are blank

When I open Illustrator CS4, and open a new or older document, the windows (action, brushes, layers, pathfinder, etc) are blank. If I close and reopen Illustrator I have a 50/50 chance that they will appear. At times I have had to close and reopen numerous times. Any thoughts? No new hardware or programs added since installation of CS4.(I already uninstalled and re-installed)

Dumping preferences was done. Restarting as you suggested has opened another symptom - I do not get a dialog box and most plugins don't load. I can use the program but with limited features. I have restarted normally for twenty times in a row and the windows are showing. So we shall see.

Illustrator CS4 lags on Intel Mac but not PowerPC

From what I can tell the lag only occurs when selecting an object in a project. Once I select any object there is about a 5 second delay where the beachball will spin until finally the object is selected. Also, about 50% of the time the selected object will jump across the screen after it is selected. It happens in any file, new or old, and with any size file from very complex to new documents with just one line in it. There are zero problems on my old PowerPC G5 tower but any time I use Illustrator on either my old MacBook with a Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz or my brand new MacBook Pro i7 2.3 Ghz it happens. I have found that using a selection box eleminates the problem but the fact remains there is a problem that needs to be resolved. It makes Illustrator almost unusable - any help would be VERY appreciated.

So I ended up formatting the hard drive and reinstalling OS X and all CS 4. This fixed the lag problems I had for about a week, then suddenly today I created a new document, threw a few lines in and BAM! The same thing started happening again - every file, new or old is lagging again. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!
EDIT: Here's a video of what is happening. Note, after selecting the line you can see the blue endpoints of the line but it takes several seconds for the selection box to appear around the line. The beachball is also not showing up in the screencast.

Sync problems with AME CS4 for Mac

Hi,
I've been trying to use Adobe Media Encoder CS4 to convert a 2 min video (MPEG2 Muxed, 29.97) to FLV/F4V, and the audio still does not sync to the video. I've tried in Sor. Spark, On2VP6, and H.264. I can't imagine it's a fps issue because in the Settings I always choose "same as source". Is there something else I should do that I'm not doing thus far?
For what it's worth: I'm using version 4.2.0.006.

Thanks for the reply. I am using Photoshop 11.0.1. I am using the latest version of Snow Leopard. I have found both Photoshop and Dreamweaver to be pretty buggy for several versions now. My suspicions were that they were really engineered for Windows and never really fully implemented for the Mac. Dreamweaver crashes or hangs on me three or four times a day if I us it all day and does various annoying things like refusing to respond to the delete key after I have used it for a while. I have pretty much stopped using it to some degree for that reason and also because there is other software that does a lot of coding things I do much more directly and simply. Also Dreamweaver always seems to struggle to quit when I tell it to quit (that is, it takes a long time and gets hung up at places before it quits) and once it does quit, I always get a message saying that it has unexpectedly quit (even when I have told it to quit).
The problems with Photoshop (starting with just taking a long time to load) have escalated to the point I described today, which makes it almost unusable. I just reinstalled Snow Leopard to see if there was anything buggy in the system software. I will report if problems go away.
Regarding both the refusal to open image files and the grayed out quit command, made me think something like you, i.e. there was some dialogue box open somewhere. However, I couldn't find anything and I don't use two monitors.
So . . . Adobe just seems to be getting more expensive and more buggy.
Incidentally, why is it still running in Rosetta rather than natively? Adobe now has a real Intel processor to work with.

Problems reinstalling Illustrator CS3

I was having issues with Illustrator CS3, it kept crashing, so in hopes of fixing the problem I uninstalled and am now trying to reinstall.
When I put the install disc in, it starts to go through the process then asks for me to put in InDesign CS4 disc. I do and then a minute later it asks for me to put in the Illustrator CS3 disc. And it keeps going back and forth like that and it doesn't seem to be making any progress in installation.

Problem installing dw cs4 on mac osx 10.5.7

Hi,
I am encountering a weird problem when trying to install dw cs4 on my macbook which runs osx 10.5.7. My user account has admin privilliges, yet when running the setup / installation file either from the disk or by downloading the trial - 2 dreamweaver icons appear in my dock, bounce up and down for a few seconds then disappear.
Are there any known issues installing dw cs4 on 10.5.7?
I have done an OS update to ensure im running the latest version.
I tried installing DW on another laptop running 10.4.11 which worked seamlessly.

Dragging Adobe files to the Trash on a Mac is the surest way to installation nightmare. Adobe products need to be properly uninstalled using the Adobe installer. You will need to clean up your system using the CS4 Clean script from http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html.
