I cannot reinstall itunes after uninstalling. Error 7 (windows error 14001). How do I fix this?

Thanks for posting this, zrakks, because I was going crazy with this one.  I'm having the same exact issue with the same version, Win7x64, with my taskbar on the left side too.  Didn't know THAT was the reason (taskbar on the left).  Hopefully they fix this in the next version--this is a pain in the a**!

Somehow something happened to my itunes software on my computer.  I uninstalled it and tried to reininstall.  It keeps saying that the apple mobile device failed to start. Verify that you have the significant privileges to start the system.  I have also tried to install as the administrator.  Can someone assist?

iTunes will not open because a dialog box pops up with "Itunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing.  Please reinstall iTunes.". I have done so a few times to no avail.  Any solutions for this problem?

No you will not lose your content reinstalling iTunes.
    Do this:
1: Download and run the Registry Cleaner of the free Ccleaner.

2: Next follow this Apple document to un-install iTunes

  • When I plug my iPhone 4s into my PC, I get an error message that says iTunes needs a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. It wants me to uninstall both the AMDS and iTunes and then reinstall iTunes. Has anyone else run into this problem recently?

When I plug my iPhone 4s into my PC, I get a message that says iTunes needs a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. It wants me to uninstall both the AMDS and iTunes and then reinstall iTunes. iTunes won't recognize my phone and so I can't synch it. Has anyone else run into this problem recently and how did you resolve it? Thanks!

Thank you both. I suppose I should have prefaced my question with the concern that I've read a number of other posts from people who have had a similar issue and when they tried to follow the directions, they ran into a multitude of other problems. As you might imagine, I'm hoping to avoid the creation of new problems as I try to solve this one. Thanks again.

  • I have a PC.  I would like to sync my iPad2 via itunes.  My computer recognizes my iPad but itunes does not.  I have deleted the itunes program, shut down my computer and restarted and then reinstalled itunes.  I still have the same problem.  Suggestions?

I have a PC.  I would like to sync my iPad2 via itunes.  My computer recognizes my ipad but itunes does not.  I have uninstalled itunes, shut down the computer and restarted plus reinstalled itunes.  I visited the Apple store there is no problem with the iPad or the cord. I still have the same problem and am unable to sync when I plug in the iPad via the USB cord.  Does anyone have further suggestions?

Try going into the control panel, add/remove programs. Uninstall iTUnes, Apple mobile device service, apple application support. Then redownload and reinstall iTunes and see if it'll work
If the computer sees your iPad you know the cable and connection is good, so the issue has to be software.

  • 3.0 upgrade problems...do I need to reinstall iTunes?

I purchased/downloaded the upgrade for my 1st generation Touch. During the install, XP launches the New Hardware Wizard and it prompts for the driver location. When it can't be located, XP says the hardware isn't installed properly. iTunes gives a 1604 error. I can't get it past this point on this pc.
I've connected to another pc, it sees the Touch fine and says it is in recovery mode and proceeds to restore it to factory defaults. I can then connect it to the original pc and sync it back to 2.1, and everthing is like it was.
When I try to do the upgrade again, the same thing happens as before.
I've seen suggestions to remove iTunes completely (I'm running version 8.2), and reinstalling. My concern with this is I have numerous extensive playlists for other Ipods, and have a thousand plus songs in my library checked for syncing with my Touch. I've seen where I can save the iTunes Music Library.XML file which I believe will save the playlists, but what about saving the checked songs.
    Any help/thoughts are greatly appreciated.

OK -- I had the same issue. I spend over 10 phone hours with them to eventually figure out that there's a driver that didn't get properly handled for my upgrade (running Vista Ultimate 64). I ended up having to restore the phone (and upgrade it) on a different computer and then restoring the data back from the original computer. Oddly enough, everyone thought I was gonna lose my photos and notes -- but they stayed on the phone (it's a 2G, btw).
I'm assuming that you've uninstalled/installed iTunes and all its related components (Apple Mobile Device Driver, Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Quicktime) -- the real key is uninstalling the Apple Mobile Device Driver completely.
    Try this:
Detach your phone and reboot the computer.
Open the device manager (run "devmgmr.msc") and keep it visible. Keep your eye on the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section of the Device Manager.
When you plug in your iPhone (perhaps iPod too - haven't tried it), you'll see an Apple driver pop up for just a few seconds. You have to act quickly, but right-click on that driver and select "Uninstall" -- don't ask me why, but even reinstalling iTunes doesn't catch removing this driver.
Disconnect your iPhone, wait a few seconds then reconnect it. If you're running Vista Ultimate 64, you may still have a driver problem - "Driver not intended for this platform." That was the last step that allowed me to reconnect the iPhone and then restore it.
    Good Luck!

  • HT1926 Have the same problem as many other users: tried to update iTunes on Windows 7 today; first message "unable to locate component- MSVCR80.dll was not found" then "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes - Error 7 (Windows error 1

I have the same problem as many other users: updated iTunes on Windows 7 on Jan 26, 2014 and iTunes does not open.  First message "unable to locate component- MSVCR80.dll was not found" then "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes - Error 7 (Windows error 126)". When will Apple fix this? Don’t feel like uninstalling all Apple software and then re-installing it as suggested, as I am on a terribly slow internet connection while travelling in the DR Congo.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Since I installed Nero 2104 I get an error message when I try to start iTunes: registry settings changed probably due to other cd/dvd burning program please reinstall iTunes, which I've done using repair option but the problem persists...?

Since I installed Nero 2014 I get an error message when I start iTunes that registry settings for importing and burning cds/dvds have changed probably due to other burning software installed please reinstall iTunes, which I've done using 'repair' option, but the problem persists. I have been able to import cds to iTunes since I installed Nero, but it won't anymore. Does anyone recognize this problem and have a solution? Thanks for any help. Using Windows 7.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)
iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes
If you're still getting the error message (especially when you plug in the Touch), I'd check for a device filter confusion on the PC. (They can affect the connection of USB devices to a PC, as well as burning and importing CDs.) For that one, see:

  • I recently updated to the latest version of iTunes and now get a message saying 'Registry settings for iTune drivers are misng for Cd burning' I have uninstallled and reinstalled iTunes and tried everything to repair the problem but still have no optical

I am using OS  64 bit Windows Vista Home Premium and recently updated the latest version of iTunes. (I only have this CD burning software on my Laptop). Ever since updating, I  received the message 'Registry settings for the iTune drivers are missing for CD burning'. The drivers for Lower and uppper filters in the registry are missingand I now have no optical drive.  I have unistalled and  reinstalled Itunes and manually entered the filters. Have tried everything including something called GEAR driver installer which was suggested on several technical sites. Everything  was working fine in iTunes until I updated it.. It's strange I can still import music but not burn?? Friend s have told me they have ha dthe same problem when updating iTunes but resolved the problem by uninstalling/reinstalling or altering registry keys.

This is a copy of ONEof the keys  in the registry I changed  as told by Apple support today. I also have changed others as instructed by GEAR  software support to manually delete GEAR drivers (that I had installed but couldn't delete some of the others  they mentioned from Windows system 32. Then some bright spark at work told me I need the Gear drivers so  I downloaded the software and installed again.
Sorry, just this minute went to insert image  and it is giving me a message saying this sort of content  is not allowed?.
The most recent key I altered is in: HKey _local _machine. System\class - 4D36E965-E325-11CEBFC1-08002BE10318. Upper Filter data: Upper filter NTIDrvr  SiRem GEARAspiWDN.
