Problem related to C:\WINDOWS\SAPLOGON.INI file

Hi Experts,
I have SAPGUI 7.10 systems and whenever I add new SAP Server in SAP Logon Pad, a corresponding entry is created in C:\WINDOWS\SAPLOGON.INI file.
But in some system, part of file content is as below:
[Server]
Item1=
Item2=XXXXX
Item3=YYYYY
Item4=AAAAA
Item5=BBBBB
where in xxx, yyyy,aaa,bbb are the application server IP.
But here Item1= <space> as shown.
For other user systems, item1 corresponds for first entry of logon pad as expected.
[Server]
Item1=XXXXX
Item2=YYYY
Item3=AAAA
Item4=BBBBB
And I am getting an error if I try at system with item1=<space>.
Actually, I need to check this because system ID is mapped to description when I execute SAP Shortcut from dynpro.
Can you tell why this space  is inserted on some system and not on others?
Thanks
Depesh.

    Hi,
    I am using sapgui 7.10 with patch level 14.
    There is a space shown in all the systems and this creating a problem while executing an SAP shortcut by saying no system description found as it tries to search for a description from saplogon.ini. even if it exists but with a space for item1.
    nobody has manually changed the saplogon.ini file.
    if i manually remove the space then add server list again or i copy the file with no space from somebody system then it works without error.
    But i cannot copy and replace this file if i have 1000+ user working on a solution having their saplogon.ini file with item1=space.
    Kindly suggest some automated process to ensure the space removal.
    thanks

  • Saplogon.ini file location question

    Hi, any advice would be appreciated thanks
    we have rolled the sap gui 6.40 to all our clients - all using a local copy of the saplogon.ini file in the local windows directory. however we wish to change this approach and have a central saplogon.ini file on a file server and point all the clients to this file.. any changes only then have to be made in one place.
    can anyone help me with this, firstly is it possible, and if so how to change the client setting to adjust the location.
    many thanks.

    Hi thanks for your link.
    The document you pointed me towards led me to SAP note number 756686
    which explains that you can edit the SAP icon on your desktop (by right-clicking and opening with notepad) and then adding a line cmd="/ini_file='path to ini file'\saplogon.ini'
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • SAPLOGON.SAL- different saplogon.ini files

    Dear all,
    I'm looking for a possibility to use different ini files, dependent from the access via network (lan) or VPN.
    The local saplogon.ini file should only be used if the saplogon.ini file from the network directory is not available. Maybe with SAPLOGON.SAL?
    thanks in advance!

    System.Runtime.InteropServices.Environment.SetEnvironmentVariable("SAPLOGON_INI_FILE", "c:

    else

  • How to merge multipal saplogon.ini files..

    How can I merge the multiple saplogon.ini files if system is on Domain?

    We are merging two SAP Logon.ini file. The common file I placed in c:windows and the users own entries are in saplogon.ini in the %appdata%commonSAP directory. And by using note 1426178 pkt. 5, we set ConfigFileOnServer to c:
    Now the user can create own entries in own saplogon.ini, and not change entries in the common saplogon.in I c:windows.
    If you update the common file, you just have to replace the file in c:windows.

    hello
    please read the installation server help.chm file carefully!
    There you find the information which you looking for.

  • Regarding the file saplogon.ini

    Hi Gurus,
      I am facing a problem with saplogon.ini file .  when i am trying to open it  , it is popping up a message box --
            " The filename,directory name or volume label syntax is in correct" .
    Could you please help me  in finding out why it is happening and could you please provide me any solution for the above problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vikram Krishna.

    Hi,
    There seems to be some naming problem either with your harddisk volume name or directory. Please check this link http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/w2000Msgs/2993.mspx?mfr=true.
    Verify the same and try to open the saplogon.ini in notepad.

  • SAPGUI Java 7.20 and saplogon.ini of an old Windows GUI...

    I changed Windows 7 for Ubuntu.
    I installed the Java GUI (version 7.20): I would like to import my previous server list in the new GUI.
    Using windows I have a saplogon.ini file, but I don't know if I can make it readable to the Java GUI
    (a lot of servers there, most of them are not used anymore... but I would like to have the same list :-P).

    You can found that in Linux in ~/.SAPGUI/connections file.

  • Saplogon.ini in configurations files section of saplogonpad.

    Hello,
    We have SAP GUI 7.10 patch 19 installed. Our saplogon.ini file resides in the path c:\windows and is not explicitly set anywhere. An old PLM interface to Solidworks set the Windows USER environment variable to point to C:\Program Files\SAP\FrontEnd\SAPgui by setting a value in SAPLOGON_INI_FILE, so nothing appears in the logonpad.
    If I remove this USER environment variable, the logonpad entries still appear blank. On further investigation, we see in the logonpad configuration screen (in the logonpad itself) a reference to a variable called saplogon.ini being set here in a section called configuration files.
    We have searched for this in the registry but cannot find it and therefore can't change it.
    Does anyone know how this gets set, where it is stored and how we can change it. Ideally we'd like to remove it completely, if possible.
    Thanks,
    Philip.

    Hello,
    I have solved this. The process also created a saplogoin.ini file in C:\Program Files\SAP\FrontEnd\SAPgui which was blank. SAP GUI looks there before Windows.
    Thanks,
    Philip.

  • Modification to SAP Logon Cannot be written to INI file

    Hi,
    When i am trying to create a New Item in SAP logon it is giving an error "Modification to SAP logon could not be Written to INI file
    Check permission for file 'C:\Windows'.
    The problem is that, this is showing even when i m logged in as "XXXADM".
    I have Reinstalled the SAP GUI, but the problem is as it is.
    OS: WINDOWS 2003 server
    Database: Oracle.
    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sharib

    I had this same problem under a VISTA Enterprise client setup.  I tried all the various recommendations, including setting the SAPLOGON_INI_FILE environment variable to point to c:\windows\saplogon.ini.  None of these changes worked, I even modified the file ownership to match up with my logged on user without success.
    I then looked at the shortcut for launching SAPLOGON, and tried to set the shortcut to run as an Administrator.  That option was greyed out.  I deleted the shortcut, and re-created it.  Still unable to save changes.  I then set the new SAPLOGON shortcut to execute as the administrator, and once I confirmed that I trusted the program, everything is now working as it should.
    Not content to leave it this way, I moved my saplogon.ini file OUT of the c:\windows directory and instead placed it in the directory pointed to by %USERPROFILE%\saplogon.ini .  I updated the environment variable setting and also removed the falg to execute the shortcut as the system administrator.
    Now everything is working as it should without any special hoops -- seems that even with full access, VISTA security would not let a domain user that was part of the PC's Administrators account to edit the file w/o running as the system administrator.

  • Source of Bex Browser SAP system entries (not saplogon.ini?)

    I hope someone could help to clarify what I presume is a fairly simple query.
    I will run through the steps I take to reach my point of confusion:
    1. I navigate to "Start Menu\Programs\Business Explorer\Business Explorer (SAP BW 3.x)" and open the Browser (SAP BW 3.x).
    2. A "SAP Logon" window (similar to a cut-down version of SAP GUI's SAP Logon program) opens, I select the appropriate BW system from the list and logon. I have just ticked the box for "Use Selected System  as Default" at this stage.
    3. The BW Browser opens, I navigate to ANY report and double-click to open.
    4. Microsoft Excel 2003 opens in the background, I can see the Business Explorer add-on as well.
    Now this is the problem stage at step 5 and a complete oddity at step 6....
    5. Another "SAP Logon at SID" window opens, but if I enter my logon details again I get an RFC_ERROR_PROGRAM error.
    6. At this point I repeat step 3 above but instead of typing in my password at step 5, I click the "System" button which opens the mini "SAP Logon" windows for BW Browser. It is here I notice that all the SAP system entries which I presumed were populated from saplogon.ini at C:\Windows, are in fact from a much older version of the saplogon.ini I previously had.
    So my real question is about step 6, why/how are the SAP system entries being populated from an older version of saplogon.ini? Does the BW Browser cache these entries somewhere else locally?
    For reference, I am running SAP GUI 710 at Patch Level 12 & BW Add-on Patch Level 4 for 710. I have tried updating everything to the latest version/patch levels but with the exact same result. I've done a complete rebuild before a new 710 install and still can't figure this out.
    Thank you.

    Hi David,
    Thank you for providing details of those SAP Notes, unfortunately they haven't helped to resolve the issue.
    We do not use an Environment Variable to make another SAPLOGON.ini file known to the SAP Logon Control.
    On running the trace, it appears quite apparent that SAPLOGON.ini in C:\Windows is being utilised. My first thought on seeing the trace file was that a SAPLOGON.ini file might be present in the "current directory" identified as N:\My Documents, but this wasn't the case.
    Steps 1 and 2 are void, the standard .ini file should be getting picked up in step 3:
    Wed Aug 05 15:09:45 2009 0001  DpaPersPar::BasicInitialization()  current directory N:\My Documents
    Wed Aug 05 15:09:45 2009 0001  DpaPersPar::BasicInitialization()  SAPLOGON_INI_FILE not set; use SAPLOGON.INI
    Any other thoughts?
    Thanks.

  • SAPLOGON.INI within Standalone Installationpackage

    Hello,
    we used the SAP Installation Server Administration Tool to build our SAP Installation Packages.
    For the SAPLOGON.INI weu2019ve implemented a u201COn End Installu201D Script using the SAP Administration Tool, this script simply copies the file from a server and sets up the Systemvariable
    strSrcFile   = NwEngine.Variables.ResolveString("
    installationserver\packages$\SAP\SAPLogon\SAPLogon.ini")
    strDstFile   = "C:\windows\SAPLogon.ini"
    NwEngine.Shell.CopyFileEx strSrcFile, strDstFile, vbTrue
    NwEngine.Shell.SetRegValue "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment\SAPLOGON_INI_FILE", "REG_SZ", "c:\windows\SAPLogon.ini"
    This script is working perfect, but during the rollout we found out that these script wont work if the client, which installs the Package, is not in the location of u201CInstallationserveru201D as per firewall rules the clients have no access from e.g. subsidiaries or VPN to this server.
    Is there a possibility to include the SAPLOGON.INI file in the standalone Installation package, or create the SAPLOGON.ini file during the installation process?
    We are using SAPGUI 7.20.
    Software Deployment Server is Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2.
    Client OS: Windows 7
    Thank you,
    Evelyn

    Hello Sven,
    We already created Single File Installer Packages for our SAP GUI / SAPBI GUI.(With the " SAPgui720_0-10007878GUIWINDOWSWIN32setupNwSapSetupAdmin.exe"´)
    The inclusion of the custom saplogon.ini was not part of the process.
    Iu2019ve read the CHM you pointed me to, but therefore I need to install the SAP Installation Server, is this correct?
    Is there no other way to do this..?
    As Iu2019ve never used SAP Inst Server before u2013 is this just a u201CProgram / Toolu201D that can be additionally installed on e.g. our Software Deployment Server, or a complete Server Administration toolkit which requires a single server for it?
    Thank you,
    Evelyn

  • Saplogon.ini search order

    Good Afternoon.
    We are deploying SAP GUI 6.40 using sapgui server - and I need to have clients have a "search list" to look forcentral saplogon.ini locations.
    So far I've edited the GUIsetup.xml file on the sapgui server - and added the line :
    cmd="/ini_file=
    server\share\saplogon.ini"
    This works a treat - new client installations then look at this location for the saplogon.ini file (and not c:\windows)
    However, for resilience we want to add a second server string to the "search order".. I've tried just adding 2 lines e.g.
    cmd="/ini_file=
    server\share\saplogon.ini"
    cmd="/ini_file=
    server2\share\saplogon.ini"
    But it doesnt seem to check the second string when the first server is unavailable or if the saplogon.ini file doesnt exist.
    Can anyone advise how we do this?
    Thanks.

    Hi Jacky,
    Please run the following transaction:
    <b>CRM_SRV_REPORT - Service Process Monitor</b>
    In that under status & system status you can check the check boxes and execute same. You can see your desired orders.
    Please reward points if it helps.
    Best Regards,
    Johnny.
