Problem related to create new web application
Hi,I recently got visual studio express 2013 for web, whenever I create a new asp web application it shows a readme file instead of blank page and I don't know how to remove it. please help me as I am new to this asp aplications.
Akhilesh,
Microsoft has the bad habit to hide some forums for their customers.
However for your question there is a Microsoft forum.
http://forums.asp.net
Sometimes I think that some Microsoft employees are afraid to show the products of their company.
In my opinion that is not needed, in many cases especially development they are the best.

Error in Creating New Web Application SharePoint 2013
Everything was working fine but today when i try to create a new web application i am getting the following error. It's happening whenever i am trying to create a new web application.
The directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\26060 is already being used by another IIS Web Site. Choose a different root directory for your new Web application.
But this port 26060 was not being used before and if i try to create new web application again then the error message occurs with the port number of the new web application.
Please help.Hi HelloFragrance,
Are you using a host header when creating these web apps? If so have you tried creating without a host header? Also are you logged in with the Server with the Admin account? Check this out: (taken from Jeremy Taylor's
blog)
" 1. Ensure you have a proper dns name / entry in the hosts file of your server for the new url you are wanting to create.
2. Ensure you have typed in the ‘host header’ typed in when creating the new web application.
3. If this doesnt work, open IIS Manager – Start>run> inetmgr> and verify the home directory – it could be located on a different drive."
Also have you tried creating through Powershell and see if you run into the same issue or not?
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607931(v=office.15).aspx
Hope this helps!
Thanks!

Runtime error and unable to create new web application
Hi
when i create new web application i faced this error Runtime error and unable to create new web application.
in this farm we have
2 wfe servers
2 application servers.
adilAdil,
There could be many reason like IIS issue, Space issue, Permission issue, SQL issue which is not possible us to guess rather
you need to jump in the SharePoint log(Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS) and find out the specific error log its throwing after which trouble shoot can be start.
You can refer few similar threads here -

New Web Application not creating correctly
I'm having an odd occurrence happen about 50% of the time right now when creating new web applications during my migration from SP2010 to SP2013.
During creating a web application in Central Admin, I can get through the first setup page, then get to the "This shouldn't take long" page and will sit there for 30+ minutes. I end up closing the window and will see that the Web application is there in
Central admin, and sometimes the DB will be created, other times not, not a big issue since I'm mounting a sp2010 database to this web application.
What I do notice is that either a IIS site will either not be created at all, or it will be created, but the Virtual Folder is empty. When trying to delete the Web Application through central admin or PowerShell it will hang for hours until the next day
when it's finally deleted. During this time I am not able to create any other web applications. It's usually at this time that I can successfully create a new web applications but even that is unreliable.
Has anyone ran into this issue or can suggest any workarounds to get this working? I'm wondering if copying the contents of another web application's virtual directory to the failed web application's virtual directory will be a workaround. I still need to
verify if creating a web application through PowerShell gives me the same headache but at the moment I'm currently waiting for a web application to delete. Finally got this resolved after an 8 hour call with Microsoft. After finally getting the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application service to restart (took 4 hours) We found that changing the Shutdown time in the Web Application Pool for the Central
Admin pool to 400 allowed for the Web Application to complete successfully.
I'm still confused to why everything is taking so long now to complete so i'll have to look into that next.
Folks, this is a minor problem that seems to be creeping up more and more. I personally have performed over 8 installs in various environments. I have seen this issue in 6 out of the 8 environments I have created. All servers I have tried a variation of
software. In MOST of my tests, this seems to be a problem. Not sure why they decide to recycle the App Pool just before they perform an "Virtual Directory Copy." Here are the results of my tests. I was very methodical in my testing and made sure these were
clean downloads every time. As you will see, I tried variations of hardware increases, physical to virtual, database versions and patch levels...etc.

Create a new web application, how shall I update the file server.xml
Hi,
I will create a new web application, i.e named newApp. Then I create a file structure as follows:
- <server-root>/newApp
- <server-root>/newApp/WEB-INF
- <server-root>/newApp/WEB-INF/classes
Then I must tell the server that I have created a new web application. Then I must update my file server.xml, How shall I do this and where in the file shall I type in the new information?
I use windows XP Pro, and Tomcat 4.1.27.
My server.xml file looks like below:
<!-- Example Server Configuration File -->

parent-child relationships with each other -->

which may contain one or more "Service" instances. The Server

You can also enable an SSL HTTP/1.1 Connector on port 8443 by
following the instructions below and uncommenting the second Connector
entry. SSL support requires the following steps (see the SSL Config
HOWTO in the Tomcat 4.0 documentation bundle for more detailed
instructions):
* Download and install JSSE 1.0.2 or later, and put the JAR files
into "$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext".
* Execute:
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Windows)
$JAVA_HOME/bin/keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Unix)
with a password value of "changeit" for both the certificate and
the keystore itself.
By default, DNS lookups are enabled when a web application calls
request.getRemoteHost(). This can have an adverse impact on
performance, so you can disable it by setting the
"enableLookups" attribute to "false". When DNS lookups are disabled,
request.getRemoteHost() will return the String version of the
IP address of the remote client.

Added user as Farm Admin - still can't create a new Web Application
What exactly does it take for someone (assuming through Central Admin) to be able to have enough permissions to create a new Web Application?
I just added one of our developers as a Farm Admin, and the 'New' button is disabled for him, so he can't create a new Web Application. As I mentioned in my post. To create a Web Application you need to be both a Farm Administrator and a local administrator on the server. You said he was a farm admin. Was he also a server admin on the server?

Unexpected error when configure a new web application
hello,
I'm trying to create a new web application ( under Deployments in console). I
just manually create an sub-dir under ".\config\<active-domain>\applications"
directory, say WebAppDir. Then I went to the console and right-click on the "Web
Applications" and select "Configure a new Web Application", then I filled out
the Name, URI, and Path as follows:
Name: WebAppDir URI: WebAppDir Path: .\config\<active-domain>\applications
then click "Create" , I then got the following error message, I don't know why
and what i did wrong... please let me know what did i do wrong ? I don't have
any things under the new dir i created, but I thought i would be fine, but it
didn't.
Here is the error message:

thanks so much...i really appreciate your helps.
-KieuHi Kieu,
Perhaps you can try moving the webapp dir outside config/mydomain/applications.
The webapp should be configurable from anywhere besides the applications directory.
Any archives placed in the applications directory will be deployed automatically.
I'm not sure why you are seeing the webapp as an app below your Applications node
in the console though. Which version of wls are you using?

but when i follow the instruction in

, to create
the web applications, i turned out the sub-dir "myWebApp" that i created
under
".\config\mydomain\applications" will appear in "Applications" node instead
of
under "Web Applications" node, even though i put all the "web.xml", "weblogic.xml"
under the dir "myWebApp\WEB-INF" already.
I would really appreciate your help...
thanks,

Powershell script for creating SSL web application
Hello,
I am trying to create SSL web application in Sharepoint 2010 using power shell and I am using the below script.
$WebApp = New-SPWebApplication -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue -Name $WebApplicationName -url $WebApplicationUrl -port $WebApplicationPort
-ApplicationPool $AppPool.Name -ApplicationPoolAccount $AppPoolManagedAccount.Username -AuthenticationProvider $AuthProvider -DatabaseName
$ContentDatabaseName
-SecureSocketsLayer
The web application gets created and when I try to create a site collection and access it, the page is inaccessible.
So I tried to bind the url to a new certificate from inetmgr and site collection still doesnt show up.
I tried manually through central admin and everything worked well including the binding to SSL.
Is there anything wrong with script, if yes what more do I need to add into this?
Thanks. The issue is solved, the problem was that the parameter -URL shouldn't be any random url but it should be
https://yourservername/ and then configure the binding to a self-signed certificate.
So John I think the command rather should be
New-SPWebApplication -Name "Contoso Internet Site" -URL "https://yourservername" -Port 80 -ApplicationPool "ContosoAppPool"
than
New-SPWebApplication -Name "Contoso Internet Site" -URL "https://www.contoso.com" -Port 80 -ApplicationPool "ContosoAppPool" -
How to create a Web Application when SQL is running in SQL Authentication mode ?
Hi,
I a have the following config:
SQL server 2012 with mixed authentication, running in the LAN
IIS server with SharePoint 2013 SP1, running in a DMZ --> SharePoint contacts the SQL server with a SQL login (not a Windows login, the required port has been opened in the FW)
SharePoint is working fine but when I want to create a new Web Application, I get an error: "Could not connect to MySQLServer\MySQLInstance,MyPortnumber using integrated security: Cannot
connect to database master at SQL server. The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect to it."
I think, since I use SQL authentification, I have to use PowerShell. I found a script on the Internet but this script was not made to create a Web App which a SharePoint installed with SQL authentication.
Can you help to adapt the script ?
Thks
THE SCRIPT Documentation:
New-SPWebApplication -ApplicationPool <String> -Name <String> [-AdditionalClaimProvider <SPClaimProviderPipeBind[]>] [-AllowAnonymousAccess <SwitchParameter>] [-ApplicationPoolAccount <SPProcessAccountPipeBind>]
[-AssignmentCollection <SPAssignmentCollection>] [-AuthenticationMethod <String>] [-AuthenticationProvider <SPAuthenticationProviderPipeBind[]>] [-Confirm [<SwitchParameter>]] [-DatabaseCredentials <PSCredential>] [-DatabaseName
<String>] [-DatabaseServer <String>] [-HostHeader <String>] [-Path <String>] [-Port <UInt32>] [-SecureSocketsLayer <SwitchParameter>] [-ServiceApplicationProxyGroup <SPServiceApplicationProxyGroupPipeBind>] [-SignInRedirectProvider
<SPTrustedIdentityTokenIssuerPipeBind>] [-SignInRedirectURL <String>] [-Url <String>] [-WhatIf [<SwitchParameter> ]] [<CommonParameters>]
The Example:
$siteName = “PowerShell for SharePoint”
$port = 80
$hostHeader = “lab.ps4sp.com”
$url = “http://lab.ps4sp.com”
$appPoolName = “PS4SPAppPool”
$managedAccount = “PS4SPspservice”
$dbServer = “PS-SQL”
$dbName = “PS4SP_SP2010_LAB_ContentDB”
$allowAnonymous = $true
$authenticationMethod = “NTLM”
$ssl = $false
New-SPWebApplication -Name $siteName -Port $port -HostHeader $hostHeader -URL $url -ApplicationPool $appPoolName -ApplicationPoolAccount (Get-SPManagedAccount “$managedAccount”) -DatabaseName $dbName -DatabaseServer $dbServer -AllowAnonymousAccess: $allowAnonymous
-AuthenticationMethod $authenticationMethod -SecureSocketsLayer:$ssl
CharlesHi Scott,
Based on your aticle, I changed my script by adding the credential, but I still have an error.
Il also put the SQL specific port in the $dbServer variable.
Any idea ?
MY SCRIPT:
$siteName = "TEST Site"
$port = 80
$hostHeader = "sharepoint.test.be"
$url = "http://sharepoint.test.be"
$appPoolName = "TestAppPool"
$managedAccount = "DISNET\administrator"
$authenticationMethod = "NTLM"
$dbServer = "DSPORT-SQL02\DSPORTPRDEXT,50123"
$dbName = "WSS_TEST_Content"
$dbServer_secPassword = ConvertTo-SecureString "MySQLPassword" -AsPlaintext -Force
$dbServer_Creds = New-Object System.Management.Automation.PsCredential "DMZSharePointLoginSQL", $dbServer_secPassword
New-SPWebApplication -Name $siteName -Port $port -HostHeader $hostHeader -URL $url -ApplicationPool $appPoolName -ApplicationPoolAccount (Get-SPManagedAccount "$managedAccount") -AuthenticationMethod $authenticationMethod -DatabaseName
$dbName -DatabaseServer $dbServer -DatabaseCredentials $dbServer_Creds

Tomcat 5.X and creating a Web Application
To all,
I've tried to add a new web application to the Tomcat 5.0.X (It is a bundled download with NetBeans, since I can't use Struts directly from the NetBeans IDE, I'm just using the Tomcat to act as the Web App Server)
My procedures are like this:
1) create a folder (eg. Struts_Trial) under the Catalina_Home\webapps
2) add an index.jsp (no xml config files are added by now)
3) re-start the Tomcat
4) try to access the web app in a browser (eg. http://localhost:8080/Struts_Trial/index.jsp)
5) it fails and list out "404 requested resource is not available"
I remember that adding a new web app is really that simple, but now it seems to be a bit different and I can't figure it out what's wrong or missing (except missing the xml config files)
From Jason (Kusanaghk)If you:
1) create a folder (eg. Struts_Trial) under the Catalina_Home\webapps
2) add an index.jsp
You then need to add a folder called WEB-INF in webapps/Struts_Trial/
In here put a file called web.xml that looks like:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<!DOCTYPE web-app
PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
<web-app>
<display-name>Test</display-name>
<description>
Test
</description>
<welcome-file-list>
<welcome-file/>
</welcome-file-list>
</web-app>Now restart tomcat and you should be able to access the page by going to:
http://localhost:8080/Struts_Trial/index.jsp
(if you are running tomcat on port 8080) -
hello,
i downloaded some iWeb templates and installed them. they work so far.
but since i added those templates i cant do several things:
-i cant create a blank web-site
-i cant create any web-site with my other user accounts
i got 3 users on my mbp. only 1 user allows me to create new web-sites. if i log in with another user (i also tried to create a new user) then i only get a grey + in the lower left corner of my iWeb. grey means i cant click it.
i deleted iweb preferences already. what else can i do to solve that?
is it a good idea to delete iweb from aplication folder and install it again? is there a full installer?
thx 4 any help, ichiCan you do this in some user accounts and not others, as the case for the original poster, or is this a problem across the board?
If all the controls are greyed out, the easiest potential fix is to open iPhoto, select some pictures/and or an album there and click on the iWeb button at the bottom of the iPhoto window. This should "force" iWeb to create a photo page.
It that doesn't work, you will need to try to download one of the iWeb upgrades. Which version of iWeb are you using? -

Cannot create new Service Application in Manage Service Applications in Central Administration
Hi!
I'm having problems with a new SharePoint 2013 Enterpise installation. The issue I'm having is is that if I navigate to Manage Service Applications and click on New I get nothing in the dropdown. If I use the wizard I can create new Service applications but
not through the Manage Service Applications page. Anyone know why? The button is not greyed out and I can click it but it doesn't show any service application at all (see picture).Hi,
Based on your description, there is no service applications in the new dropdown list in SharePoint 2013.
Check things below:
Run the SharePoint products Configuration Wizard and then check if the same situation will occur.
Run Central Administration as administrator and then check the results.
According to your last post, it seems that there is something wrong about certificate.
How do you connect server through remote access? And check if it is the same situation when you create service application in SharePoint
server.
Best regards
