Problem renting movies

up to couple of months ago, I would rent a move and when it was about 2 to 3% downloaded, I would be able to watch it. As of couple of weeks ago, the whole movie needs to get downloaded before I can watch it. I have not changed any settings and this is very annoying.
please advice.
thanks

When you stream, incoming data is cached and the file is actually played from the cache, not directly from the stream. When you rent a movie, it plays from the portion of the file that has been saved ahead.
If the network speed is too slow, it will have to do a lot of buffering if the data is not coming in fast enough to prevent the playback from being interrupted. The ATV specs call for a broadband connection, so it's possible it won't stream if the network speed is below 1mbps.

  • Problem renting movies with Apple TV

Having a problem renting movies using Apple TV with Comcast cable and Netgear gigabit wireless router.  After selecting a movie to rent and clicking "rent" a message appears: "Accessing iTunes Store", after some delay a second message appears stating an inability to connect to iTunes store, try again later. This issue is intermittent. At any given time a movie can be rented and streamed, but more than 50% of the time, the rental fails.

We're not really sure as yet - there certainly seem to be no comments on subtitling as a feature.

  • Problems renting movies on iPad 2 from iTunes.

I have had problems twice lately renting movies from iTunes. The first time, the download got hung up and then gave me an error. I never could get it to finish. Support helped me remove and then suggested I download on my laptop and then sync to my iPad. It worked, but that isn't a fix to the problem. It is a work around. One of the reasons I got it was to rent movies when I travel and I don't want to take my laptop to do that.
Today, I had my second problem. I rented a movie and downloaded directly to my iPad. When I went to look for it under videos, I couldn't find it. Later, it showed up under videos out of the blue. I started watching the movie and it got about halfway through when the movie froze. It would not go any further although it had all or the remaining chapters listed in the chapter guide.
In looking through some other forums I have heard that my first issue was quite common and now I have heard from others that my second issue is somewhat common as well. Does anyone know what the issue is or what Apple is doing about this?

Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Problems renting movies/credit card security code

We have 2nd gen apple tv.  We tried to rent a movie tonight and we kept getting the credit card security code screen.  We would enter it and...nothing would happen.  It would go back to the rent screen.  So, we went onto our itunes and tried to put the security code in there.  No luck.  How can we rent movies through apple tv?

Similar issue here... I have an iPhone 4, an Ipad 2 and recently acquired an ATV 2.
I have no issues renting movies on My Ipad or IPhone, when I try to rent a movie on my Apple TV 2 it promps me to say that may credit card security is invalid and suggests that I go into my Itunes account and enter correct CC security code. I have done this step a few times - went into Itunes, entered the security code in the CC section and yet it still won let me make a purchase on Apple TV. I have even gone so far as to remove my credit card details and re-enter them.
The only one thing I did notice on my account screen was that Itunes is detecting that a new device has been added to my account... which happens to be the Apple TV, and now we come full circle !
Any advice and tranquillizers would be welcome

  • HT1657 having problems renting movies on appleTV

We are having problems using our appleTV, earlier today it wouldn't show up on my ipad while watching a podast, we had to watch it form the ipad instead of the TV.
Then we rented a movie from the iTunes store on the appleTV and it told us it would take 16 hours to download and watch it, then it changed to 20 hours and then 23 hours. I am about to take the dog gone unit back and tell them to keep it. This happened earlier last week where we ended up paying twice to watch a movie on both the iPad and appleTV. Thankfully they reimbursed us.  Help !!

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

I can't rent Halloween movies from iTunes tonight. It tells me that the content is not currently available. Sombody else with same problem?

  • Problems renting movie in Apple TV

I rented a movie in Apple TV, it shows up as 100% downloaded and that it expires in 23 hours, but it just shows up as white screen when I try to play it.
I've heard that you can't navigate away after hitting download, and that I might need to re-download it.  Will I get charged a second time, though?

It happens sometimes, but not seen it reported here in a long time.

I have flown from England to Canada with connecting flights in Dublin and Chicago. I purchased a rental whilst in Ireland but it didn't finish downloading by the time I got on the plane. I have now landed and I can't find the remaining download anywhere but have still paid for it. Can anyone help me? Thanks

  • I'm having problems renting movies as Apple TV doesn't recognise my ID and/or password (even though iTunes and the App Store do - and this site of course). Anyone experiencing similar, or know how to resolve? Thanks

All suggestions welcome. It has worked in the past BTW - not since the recent update.

I had exactly the same problem a few days ago. I had to go into the settings and choose to reset all settings. Worked fine for me after that.

  • Error 5002 when trying to rent movie

I've never had problems renting movies from the iTunes Store, but just tried to rent Footlose and it keeps giving me Unknown Error 5002. Any idea what the problem might be? I have an iMac, 10.7.3. I'm trying to rent the SD version.
    Thanks,
    --Linda

That is the only logical conclusion. I have tried several times via ITunes and it never worked. Then I tried with my iPhone and I was able to rent a movie with no problems.
I doubt it would be fixed in the weekend. I sent an email to support about this error 5002.
I hope they will come back to me about it or maybe work on it soon enough.

I am having a problem deleting rented movies.  One shows up as a grey box.  Apparently it never downloaded.  Plus two more that I have watched are still there. Any suggestions.???

This is a user to user help forum only. You are not addressing Apple here.
My iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPad 2 are running 6.1.3 with no such problem and the same with the overwhelming majority of iOS devices running 6.1.3.

  • HT1657 Hi, at the moment I can only seem to watch a rented movie once - previously I used to be able to watch it as many times as I liked during the 48hr window.  Anyone else have this problem?

Hi, at the moment I can only seem to watch a rented movie once - previously I used to be able to watch it as many times as I liked during the 48hr window.  Anyone else have this problem?

    This doesn't seem right.
I paid for a rental and downloaded an HD movie, Avatar. I could start watching within about a minute, it played without skipping a beat.
My wife started watching the movie the next night and got about half way through.
The next day, she tried watching the rest, and selected the film and clicked on "resume watching".
But instead of streaming and playing like it should, we got the spinning wheel of death followed by a message "Ready to play in 1 minute" which soon became "Ready to play in 2351 minutes"!
Additional information that I can add is that it was Sunday afternoon which is peak time for internet usage and I'd just exhausted my data allowance before the speed limiting kicks in. Basic internet using browsers at that time was really slow.
So it was as though the movie we were going to resume watching was going to be downloaded from the iTunes Store again, and since my connection had been speed limited, it was going to take forever. I thought you downloaded a rental to your hard drive and it deleted itself after it expired? So any subsequent streaming to AppleTV would be coming direct from your hard drive. It shouldn't have been affected by the speed of my internet connection at that time, surely. Anyone else experienced this?
Actually, I just noticed this post, I'm sure it's related...:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12398832&#12398832
