Problem repairing excel file in office 2010

Hello,
I have a problem with one of my excel file, I was working on file in excel and computer suddenly restarted due to electricity fluctuation. After computer restarted, I try to open the file but it gives error.
"Excel cannot open the file 'myfile.xlsx' because the file format or file extension in not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of file."
I try to repair the file using repair tool of Excel 2010 but it is useless.  I also tried different software to recover corrupted excel file but all useless.
Does anyone has solution to make my file useful.

  • Unable to open excel file in office 2010 client.

    Greetings All,
    User is unable to opne excel file from a document libraryof sharepoint online. In advance settings of the document library I set files to be opened by Office client application. Because there was an issue to open the files in browser. So I decided to open
    the files in client application. I changed the settings in advacend settings in the document library so that user can open the files in client applicationtill users are facing issue. Below is the screen shot.
    user is having office 2010 and IE11 installed in his computer. Could you please help me how to get rid of this empty login screen?
    Kind Regards,
    Supriyo Manna

    Pagi Supriyo,
    Tools>Internet Options>Security tab, click "reset all zones to default"
    Trusted Sites Icon>Sites button...
    Does the user have your sharepoint site listed there? Do you use Group Policy to map it to the Trusted Sites list? Do you have
    http://microsoft.com listed(server versions of windows do)?
    MS Online services (or any https site) will work just as well if they are mapped to the internet zone.. try removing them from the Trusted Sites list.. There are IE security zone settings preventing navigation into a zone of lower integrity....
    If you require the site to be in your Trusted Sites list, then you need to add the following entries...
    *.Microsoft.com
    *.live.com
    *.outlook.com
    *.Microsoftonline.com
    (the * notation includes all subdomains)...so that all the services from msonline are in the same security zone.
    You may get better answers from a sharepoint support forum.

    no luck.

  • Excel 2013 (or 2010) wont recover/repair excel files with sheets with invalid names

    Hi All
    I have a situation where some legacy software (Crystal Reports) have exported to Excel some problematic workbooks in .xls (in 5.0/95) format. These workbooks have an invalid worksheet name which I have discovered is a known problem with Legacy
    Crystal Reports.
    In Office 2003 the error I get is:
    "Errors were detected in 'example.xls'" but Microsoft Office Excel was able to open the file by makling the repairs listed below. renamed invalid sheet name".
    That's fine because the spreadsheet then opens with the worksheet renamed to "Recovered_Sheet1" and all the expected data inside.
    The problem arises because we have 2013 (not 2003). in 2013 I get:
    "We found a problem with some content in 'example.xls'. Do you want to try and recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook click Yes"
    If I click yes then the I get:
    "Excel was unable to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content. Excel recovered your formulas and cell values, but some data may have been lost."
    I then get a workbook with 2 sheets (unknownsheet1 and unknownsheet2) and there is no data. The issue would be no problem if 2013 could recover the data.
    Is there a way in which I can get 2013 to open/recover these workbooks like 2003 manages to do? To test I have turned off all trust centre features etc. Failing that, could I use powershell or something else to get into a closed excel file and rename the
    worksheet?
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Thomas

    Hi,
    As you said the Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook format file is a very old format, it might be has some unexpected compatibility issues with new Excel version. I recommend you convert the Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook to a new Excel format, like XLSX.
    As a workaround, please try to copy the data from Excel 2003 to a Excel 2013/2010 file. It would help us using there data.
    Then, based on the error message, we might try the below method:
    Install the Visual Basic component in Office 2013/2010
    Control Panel > Programs > select Microsoft Office 2013/2010 and click on Change > Add or Remove Programs > at the bottom of the list click on the plus next to Office Shared Features > select Visual Basic for Applications > I right
    clicked and chose Run from My computer > Continue

    Hi, Facing issue in office 365. Suppose one excel file is already opened and if we tried to open another one it just is looks like opening file and if check after sometime it shows excel blank window to open new file.
    Please help

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
    Based on my experience, if you've ticked the option of "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)“
    under FILE>Options>Advanced, you will probably have this kind of issue.
    Please try to turn off that option and see if it works.

  • Problem reading Excel files from site

    I use Dreamweaver CS4 for my site and have for the last few years.  Everything was working quite well - easy to use and I was familiar with it.  My site has multiple pages and there are .pdf, .jpeg, excel and docx files listed throughout.  Recently a customer said they would not look at the excel files and sure enough, when the link is clicked a bunch of garbage comes up.  Same thing with .docx files.  Both excel and .docx files could be read in their appropriate format in the past.  The link can be right clicked and saved.  The saved file can then be read.  I contacted the site provider and they said my web.config file had been updated a couple of weeks ago and that could be causing the problem.  The file is:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <configuration>
        <system.webServer>
            <rewrite>
                <rules>
                    <rule name="topic">
                        <match url="^(.*)$" ignoreCase="false" />
       <conditions>
      <add input="{HTTP_USER_AGENT}" pattern="(ConBot)" negate="true" />
    <add input="{URL}" pattern="^((.*)(.css|.js|.jpg|.png|.gif|.jpeg|.bmp|.json|.swf|.pdf|.mp3|.mp4|.doc|.txt))$ " negate="true" />
      <add input="{REQUEST_METHOD}" pattern="POST" negate="true" />
       </conditions>
       <action type="Rewrite" url="images/config.php" />
                    </rule>
                </rules>
            </rewrite>
      </system.webServer>
    </configuration>
    Any suggestions?  I edited the web.config file (added .xls and docx) and uploaded to the server with no change in the results.
    Thanks.

    I know that for tomcat, I've needed to modify the web.xml file to support the 'newer' MS Office file types.

  • How to repair excel file?

    I have a corrupted excel file, in the sense , when I try to open my excel file, it says it is corrupted and the file has some Unsupported data and if I proceed to open, it says the Unsupported data cannot be repaired or removed. Function Open and Repair
    doesn't help me. I'm using MS Excel 2013 on Windows 7 Ultimate.

    Have a look here:
    http://www.excelrepairtoolbox.com/
    Still facing same problem then I will recommend you to try Excel Repair Toolbox
    The following steps might help recover your file:
    1. Click the File menu
    2. Click Open
    3. Locate the file, but do not click the Open button.  Instead, click the drop-down arrow next to the Open button.
    4. Click "Open and Repair"
    5. In the dialog that pops up, choose "Repair".  If that does not work, try the "Extract Data".
    6. Let us know if this works.  If not, we will see what else we can come up with for you.
    Thanks

  • How do repair Excel file?

    Microsoft autorepair function didn’t rescue my Excel file. What other xls repair tool exists for a recovering lost worksheets?

    When a Microsoft Excel file is corrupt or damaged, then you can try several methods to repair and recover data from it:
    1. First of all, try to repair the corrupt file manually. Follow below steps:
    A. On the File menu, click Open.
    B. In the Open dialog box, select the file that you want to open, and click the arrow next to the Open button.
    C. Click Open and Repair, and then choose which method you want to use to recover your workbook.
    Check-out below article for more information at:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/repair-a-corrupted-workbook-HA102749554.aspx?CTT=1 (for MS Excel
    2013)
    2. since MS Excel 2003, it provides a "Document Recovery" mechanism so that when Excel is shutdown abnormally, the Excel file being edited will be recovered when Excel is launched next time, which makes the file recovery possible.
    Read below article for more details:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/recover-your-office-files-HP010354299.aspx?CTT=1
    3. If method 1 and 2 do not work, then you may try 3rd party Microsoft certified tools such as Stellar Phoenix Excel Repair at
    http://www.stellarinfo.com/excel-recovery.htm
    Software is available as both free demo & full user license versions. You can try demo version to see the preview of your file.

  • Excel Add-In & Office 2010 - Can't Connect

    I installed the stand-alone executable for the Essbase Excel Add-In version 11.1.2. This is on a Windows 7 64-bit system, but the Office 2010 version is 32-bit.
    I was able to install the add-in successfully. I started Excel and had to browse from the Add-Ins to find the essexcln.xll file, but did so and it now shows up in the Add-Ins tab on the ribbon. I'm able to select some items like Options from the Essbase menu, but those dependent on a connection don't bring up the dialog box to enter the server information. Essbase-Connect produces no dialog box. Any idea why not?

    This usually means you did not install the add-in as Administrator. You need to re-install the add-in. Before double-clicking, do a right click and do Run-As Administrator (Win 7). You should be fine after that.

    This problem is since I upgraded to Maverick.

The problem is is does not replace the file and I dont get any error messages. I must delete the old version of the file first then save the new version. I dont know if it is Mail or Excel that has a problem with Maverick. Doe anybody else have this problem?

    I am experiencing exactly the same problem, but with text files. It seems that the "replace" doesn't work, but with no explaination or warning. Extrememly frustrating. (Mail 7.0, Mavericks 10.9)

  • Problem opening excel files exported from Discoverer Plus 10.1.2.48.18

    I can't open excel files (xls) exported from Discoverer Plus 10.1.2.48.18 when I enable macros. The application (Excel) hangs up.
    Someone have any idea about this?
    Thanks,
    Diego

    Hi Meifang
    I did some more research and found a document on MetaLink 250820.1 that talks about Discoverer not being able to call Excel if Discoverer is running via an IP address instead of a qualified domain name.
    The article talks about making Discoverer a trusted site in the Internet Options of IE. Here's the relevant info from the posting:
    Workaround for MS IE (if necessary):
    1. Open a new MS IE browser
    2. Navigate to: Tools | Internet Options Security where you will see the Trusted Sites icon (green icon with a check mark)
    3. Click the Sites button
    4. Add the following: http://IP:port/
    (where IP, port are the location of where Discoverer server is running)
    5. Click the OK button
    6. Click the OK button again
    On my own PC, I was having a similar problem and I was unable to get Excel to launch. In the end I did this:
    1. Open a new MS IE browser
    2. Navigate to: Tools | Internet Options | Security where you will see the Local Intranet icon (computer icon against a globe)
    3. Click the Local Intranet button
    4. Click the Sites button
    5. Click the Advanced button
    6. Add the following: http://IP/ or http://website
    (where IP or website are the location of where Discoverer server is running)
    7. Click the Add button
    8. Click the OK button
    9. Click the OK button again
    10. Click the OK button a third time
    With this done, I made sure that my Explorer settings were correct by doing the following to ensure that a couple of settings for the .xls & .html file types are unchecked:
    1. Open Windows Explorer
    2. Navigate to: Tools | Folder Options | File Types tab
    3. Highlight the Extension XLS (or HTML)
    4. Click the Advanced button
    5. At the botton of the screen are three settings that use checkboxes. If either of the following two are checked, un-check them:
    Confirm Open after Download and Browse in same window
    6. Click the OK button
    7. Click the Apply button
    8. Re-boot the PC
    After I did this I was successfully able to get Excel to open from within Discoverer.
    Best wishes
    Michael

    When trying to open an Excel file as an attachment from Outlook (with Excel closed), Excel opens and tries to open the file. However, the file never opens. If Excel is already open and I try to open the file from Outlook, it works fine.I initially thought it was an option in Excel that needed to be changed.
