Problem replacing K8n Neo4 Platinum

Hello everybody, this is my first post here, I am a new member from Italy.
I have this problem:
I own a K8n Neo4 Platinum and when I changed the VGA from Nvidia 6600 GT to 8600 GTS the Mobo doesn't post anymore.. The usb diagnostig bracket says it's a memory problem but when I've put my memory banks on a different PC, they work just fine.
I think the problem was caused by the little space that I had between the VGA and the chipset cooler (Zalman passive);when I installed the VGA I damaged the chipset. Taking a closer look at it I noticed that 1 edge is damaged. I also substituted the Power suplly but the result is always the same.
So I decided to replace the mobo but I don't want to reinstall windows. Finding my same mobo is impossible here in Europe. I only found the K8n Neo4-F.
My question is the following :
-Does this Mobo use the same drivers that were installed on my HD? (latest driver downloaded  from Nvidia version 6.86)
-Will I have problems with Windows ?

  • LAN problem on K8N Neo4 Platinum

    Hello all,
I am trying to build a system using this setup:
    -MSI K8N Neo4 nforce4 Ultra Plat
    -AMD 64 3700+ (san diego)
    -Corsair XMS DDR400 Twinx1024mb-3200c2pt
    -evga Gefocre 6800GS
    -WD 74GB raptor (main drive)
    -WinXP Pro
    -Antec SP-400 PSU
    -Samsung DVD/CD-RW
I have searched the forums completely and have been trying every suggested method to get the onboard LAN to work.  Both ports are not working.  I have updated the chipset drivers, Lan drivers for each, updated the bios, tried disabling the Giga lan port and just using the Nvidia, etc...  Nothing seems to be working.
The connection states that it is connected and it shows an IP address but there is no DNS or Gateway and it will not connect to the internet or download updates for Kaspersky.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

    Your cables in order?
Hm,so they do appear in hardware manager correctly?
    And drivers are installed etc.?
Do you see any led activity from the Lan connectors at the rear of your pc case?
Now the following could be different for each provider, but my modem gets a standard ipnumber if my modem can't connect to my provider, when the connection does happen it shows a 10.xxx.xx.xx number and after that my real ipnumber gets assigned.
So when no signal is received I don't get the 10.xxx number but the default one.And ofcourse no DHCP in this case.
Also with my cable modem the number from my ethernet device is memorized and linked to my account,so when I build this system I had to go to a certain web page from my provider to fill in the new number from my Lan device(provisioning page),after this was done I had to reboot the cable modem and now my Lan connection was linked to my CPE MAC Address from modem and internet worked.
There is a basic test you can use to check if your modem is detected correct by the pc and your cables and setup is in order.
Go to your web browser and type   http://192.168.100.1/  this will show if your Lan is communicating with the modem.
If this all seem to work you have a problem before the modem,or the modem itself is defect. In these cases contact your provider.
It would help if you could provide the modem type and connection type (dsl or cable) because what I just wrote applies to cable modems. Also check if your network cable is the correct one,you don't want a crossed cable for your connection.
ps. you could type in the command prompt (start\execute) ipconfig/all
this shows the current adress of your Lan devices. It's called physicall adress.

  • Download Problems with K8N Neo4 Platinum Nvidia Ethernet Controller

Just to ask if there is some basic setup for Nvidia network drivers in Windows or in BIOS since I'm having download errors with a DSL connection when i use the Nvidia networking controller, not depending from  the OS I'm booting (WinXP Pro SP2 or  WinXP pro 64). When I download using the Marvell Yukon controller everything  works fine in both operating systems. Additional specs:

    Open up the nvidia firewall.
    Click on 'Active Armour'
    Click on 'Application'
change the setting from 'offloadable' to 'notoffloadable'
    This solves the download problem.
    Indigian,  you are The Man!!!!!
That solved it !!! Thank you very much!

  • Memory frequency problem with K8n Neo4 Platinum

I have 4 banks of memory installed:
    2 x 256 GEIL ddr400 Cl2 and 2 x 512 CORSAIR ddr440 cl2.5, total 1.5Gb ram.
They are in dual channel mode, but they run at 100hz and not at 200hz.
If in the bios i set the manual mode for the memory and set 200 hz, than after the reboot they are at 200 hz but in games like wow, css or others the system freezes.
If i let the auto mode for the memory, the system set them at 100 hz and so the problems disappear.
I see the value 100 or 200 hz in the "cell menu->ddr rate". This value is confirmed from cpuz.
How can i set them to 200hz without system freezes?

3 gigs (256x2 + 512x2) is an inherently unstable combination.  While the system could boot that way, you are asking the memory controller on the cpu to negotiate too much when it must run one channel at one type of timing and the other channel at an other.  Even under the best circumstances, you can boot that way but will fail memtest when system is stressed.  Only stable way to use all 4 dimms slots is with 4 identical modules (same size, cas, etc, i.e., same everything). When it comes to mixing sizes like that (2x256 and 2x512), Intel can do it (memory controller is on the board) but AMD cannot (memory controller is on the processor).
Edit- mixing brands (Geil and Corsair) is an other reason why it has to fail.  Intel could do it.  AMD cannot.
Edit Edit- What 400 Watt psu is that?  Note that you need 18 amps on +12 Volt rail minimum for Neo4.  Does your psu have that?  Just because the label says it, does not make it so.  Check what brand it is.
The output at 12V is 18A

    VGA problem, --> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=34535.0
check VGA power cable(if your VGA got it), try with another VGA. could be PSU too.
i already did, but this combination isnt listed in that topic as the rest of the leds here aint red...
so what? vga isnt getting enough power? i connected the two hdd power connector to the vga just like its manual says. "Two hard disk drive power dongles off of seperate power supply cable bundles." what should i check then?
a chieftec 420w should be more than enough for a pc like mine from what ive heard and read. :S

  • Audio 5.1 problem with K8N Neo4 Platinum

    Hi,
First of all, apologize for my bad english (I'm French).
    I have a problem similar to aberdeen5...
I recently installed 5.1 speakers on my motherboard, but in Windows, Media Player and PowerDVD I only get sound on the 2 front speakers.
I set 6 speakers in PowerDVD and 5.1 surround speakers in the windows control panel. In the mixer, the sound is on for the six speakers.
I test the speakers with MSI CoreCell and the MSI sound control panel and the 6 speakers work fine...
In dxdiag (DirectX utility), the sound test works only on the front speakers when the software buffer memory is used, but when the test used hardware buffer memory, the sound comes well from the 6 speakers...
I've installed the nVidia unified driver for the nForce4, and the latest Realtek AC97 drivers ( a3.73 WHQL)...
If someone has an idea, or had the same problem and solve it, eventually even with an other motherboard, I thank him very much to help me :-)
    Have a good day !

    Hi,
Finally I tried what you suggested, but the problem remained.
I desinstalled Realtek drivers and installed manually the last nVidia audio ones, included in the 6.53 release. The sound is better, but in PowerDVD it remains on the 2 front speakers...
Perhaps my version of PowerDVD (OEM 5.0) can't play in 5.1... I will try the Deluxe 6.0 version.
when you use 5.1 speakers, do you here the 'ting' sound onthe 6 speakers when you turn on/down the system sound in the task bar ?
I will reinstall the Terratec in my new config and see the behaviour in Windows and PowerDVD 5, then I will know about it.
I will post a new topic later with the solution if I found something. The posts in "New Nforce audio drivers?" from syar2003 were also useful for me. It's difficult to install the audio drivers and choose between "MCP nvidia" and "audio codec nvidia".
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Hard Drive Problems - MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum

    Hi All,
Seem to be having some wierd problems with HDDs on the above motherboard.  I have two WD Caviar SE drives (1x160gb 1x120gb) and a single IBM 60GXP 40gb.  I have an Abit "Serriell" PATA to SATA converter.
I keep having bootup problems, whereby I'll reboot the machine, without changing actual boot menu settings, or anything like that, and it'll restart and tell me Boot Record Not Found - Insert System Disk (its not exactly this, but means the same thing).
This is rather odd I think - it would appear the motherboard is having problems deciding what to boot off.  I have my devices arranged as such:
    PATA:
IDE Channel 1 Master - Nec 3510A DVD Writer
IDE Channel 1 Slave - Liteon DVD Drive
IDE Channel 2 Master - 160GB WD Caviar SE - BOOT DRIVE with Windows XP SP2
IDE Channel 2 Slave - 40GB IBM GXP
    SATA:
IDE Channel 3 Master - Nothing
IDE Channel 4 Master - 120GB WD Caviar SE
    All Other Channels - Nothing
Now, I installed MBM5 on WindowsXP.  Went to reboot - Boot Record not found.  Rebooted having told the bios there was no drive on the SATA controller.  Same thing.
Then removed the 40GXP.  Booted into windows fine.
Its been doing this to me on and off for no reason all weekend now and its getting a little tiring!
Also, the board takes atleast 5 minutes to actually get around to booting windows (it appears to take AGES checking all the hard drives).
I'm really stumped now, anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks
    Joe

well everything i wrote was based on the guys serial number reading ability. ill live with 2800 mhz. thanks anyway
That's all fine and good, but not always the case. Sure, some batches/runs are better than others, and some weeks of production are just good clockers, but it is hard to tell what ANY chip will do just by looking at the markings on it. Getting 3G on stock vcore would be almost unheard of - unless the chip was made to run at 3G of course. 2800Mhz isn't too bad and exactly what I run on my Brisbane 24/7.
The only real way to know what any chip will do, IMO, is to buy from someone who has abused already tried it

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum - fan replacement

I have a 2 month old K8N Ne04 Platinum edition (not SLI) motherboard.  At first the system was dead quiet, however the NForce4 Ultra's stock fan has become increasingly loud over the last week, to the point where I can no longer hear myself think.
Can a new fan be ordered and attached to the existing heatsink, or does the whole unit need to be replaced?  I have no idea what 3rd party part would be compatible, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Hello there, I too had the same problem after 1 month of having the K8N Neo4 Platinum Motherboard.  All was well and silent then all of a sudden the NORTHBRIDGE fan started clattering and getting very loud to which was very disturbing.
The only way around this is completely taking out the "MSI" provided NORTHRBIDGE fan by removing the motherboard from the case and pressing on the clips on back of the board that hold the fan and then popping in a new NORTHBRIDGE fan/cooler.  I found a great replacement for the cheapie MSI provided fan in the "VANTEC CCB-A1C Ball VGA COOLER" which is all copper based and purchased from www.newegg.com for under 15 US dollars shipped.
Below is the picture of what the fan I recommend looks like...
I have since been using the "VANTEC ICEBERG COPPER COOLER" and the NForce4 chipset has been running very-very cool and was a perfect fit!
    Take care, Ice!
Sorry to revive an old thread but looking at my problem and how often it was that question asked here, I want you to help clear things up...
Is this Cooler you are referring to, this one? The same model and everything?
    http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-23998289-cooler-chipset-o-video-vantec-iceberq-modding-_JM
Because if it is, I can buy it here knowing I will have that cooler replaced...
Another thing, Which is better? Titanium or copper? cos the titanium one is cheaper...
Thanxs a lot for helping me out pals...
EDIT: Sorry, pal... Didn't mean to offend anyone

  • Vista Sound problems with K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum

I wonder if anyone have gotten the sound to work under 32-Bit Vista RC1 (build 5600) on the K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI (MS-7100)? Installation of the, by MSI, provided XP driver (Creative_audio_32-64bit.zip) seam to work, and the device looks installed in Device Manager, but still no sound... Also, the icon for volume control in the icon trey detects that there is no sound card installed.
Anyone with a similar problem? Any solutions? Suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

Well I am running them at the rated speed of 250 and the rated timings of 3-4-4-10 on the rated 2.8 volts. Ballistix have been known to die quickly when you throw to many volts at them for some reason. I dont get the cold boot problem with the OCZ. Once I finally get it to boot with the Ballistix it works just fine but the next morning I play hell to get it to boot again. I dont even get the main screen to let me get into bios. It just stays black. I have done all kinds of stress testing and ran memtest with no problems. I am really at a loss here.
