Problem resetting my iPod

I just got a 20g ipod from my friend. He had it formated for a Mac. I just went though the process of resetting it to factory specs. Now the thing is telling me to plug it into an external power source, problem is all I have is a usb wire, and I dont want to go out and buy yet another cord for it. Is there any way to get this thing working with out plugging it into the wall?

you must either find an AC or a car charger to complete the Restore process.
I strongly suggest you buy an iPod ac charger as you may find a need for the next restore or travelling

  • Problems with syncing iPod.

Been having a lot of trouble syncing my iPod with itunes lately, the syncing process will get stuck at the "waiting for changes to be applied" step and remove all non purchased songs off of the ipod, i can transfer apps without problem. ive tried everything i could find to fix this problem.
    reseting the ipod
    restoring ipod from backup
    factory restore
    uninstalling and reinstalling itunes
nothing seems to work. ive tried a lot of the other solutions that people have found to work online such as closing all running apps, deleting a specific file with iexplorer and resetting programs through command prompt.
any help on the issue would be much appreciated.

Try restoring your iPod. Just be aware that restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings, so if you have songs on your iPod that aren't on iTunes you will lose them if you have no back up. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes

  • A Huge Problem with my iPod touch 5th Generation - Cannot Sync or Hard Reset

It's Impossible unless Somebody has a suggestion on how to fix this "problem".
This iPod 5th Generation appears to have a black screen. Whenever i charge it. It goes to charging screen that Battery symbol and the lightning bolt below the Battery symbol. You cannot turn it on or reach to the apple logo. Cannot do a Hard reset (Sleep button + Home button at the same time). It stays as it was. Charging for 5 Hours now...What a big waste. Got this iPod less then a month. Called help to fix the problem at apple store which i have an appointment in 2 days. But if any suggestions would work on my iPod. Then i don't need to go to the appointment.
Please. Somebody help me fix that iPod. Stuck at black screen. Can't goto the apple logo. So whenever i unplug the recharger. It goes black screen instead of battery required to charge or something like that.
    Anybody help?

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

From my limited knowledge the iPod Nano has no support for iCloud or wireless transfers- therefore the only means of downloading songs is by hooking it up to the computer by the white cable.

  • My ipod touchs location services has stopped working. I just installed a new modem to my pc could that be the problem and how to fix ? ive already reset the ipod to new status and no help. thank for any help

my ipod touch has lost location services after i installed a new modem to my pc . it is turned on in the settings and i have even reset the ipod to new status. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Nothing you can do except wait until Apple adds the router to their database of routers and their location. If you or someone nearby does not have an iPhone it can take a while. There is no way to tell Apple to add a router to their database.

  • How many times can you reset an ipod

I have a 4G iPod purchased 6/05. My computer is 14in iBook with Mac OS X 10.4.3. I mainly use the firewire dock connector my iBook to update music/podcasts. I use the iPod on my way to work with a Griffin iTrip and at work by hooking up to Kensington dock.
I've been having intermittent problems with the iPod freezing on me. It has happened a few times when I hit "play" on a song when it wasn't hooked up to an output source (no headphones or dock connection). But in general, I can't determine any specific inciting event to explain why the iPod freezes or why I need to reset.
The iPod responds well to a simple reset, which has been going on weekly. On one occasion, I had to completely restore it--including renaming the iPod and resyncing everything.
So, is this a normal occurence? Is a reset every week or two out of the ordinary? Is there something wrong with my iPod?
    Thanks,
    Meetul

i think having to reset your ipod really at all is out of the ordinary. bring it to an apple store, call support, or look around the forums for topics pertaining to this.

  • Problems syncing the iPod touch

My iPod Touch synced fine at first, but now all I get is an error message
"The iPod (xxx)cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to." What am I doing wrong? I have tried resetting it, restarting it. Now tempted to 'relocate' it into the garbage .... Help!

I am having a similar problem with my iPod Touch. I have a fairly full iPod with 16Gb. capacity. I sync calendars, contacts music video and podcasts. For some reason when I include my selection of photos I get "This iPod cannot be synced. Unknown error -50."
If I leave the photos out it seems to work. Also, I have tried a restore, and now I have lost my notes ( I have the January software update)
Any ideas what is going wrong?

  • If i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it as the option 'set up as new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos and ect?

if i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it to the option 'set up as a new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and log into my apple ID so i can just restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos, contacts, ect. and then later i can add contacts that i need/want instead of them restoring them from icloud?
The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...
and i hope you understand my problem..
i would REALLY REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me a solution to my problem!!! thank you so much!
    -sierra

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

  • How can you reset an ipod if the lock button is broken?

how can i reset my ipod if the lock button is broken?

To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. All your wifi and bluetooth preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices
If you mean place in recovery mode then use on of these

  • I tried to soft reset my ipod touch with the top button and the screen button.  it turned off and went to the blue screen with the apple.  now it won't do anything-it has stayed on that scren for 4 hours now.  does anyone know how i can fix this?

i tried to soft reset my ipod touch with the top button and the screen button.  it turned off and then went to the blue screen with the apple like it should.  however, it now just stays on that screen.  it has a sort of clock looking thing at the bottom of the apple that does not move either.  it has stayed on this screen for over 4 hours.  i also can not hard reset it in itunes.  i am not really goood at this sort of thing.  does anyone have this problem or a possible solution?  thanks

    See Here for
    Frozen or unresponsive iPod touch
    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
    Restart..  Reset..  Restore...
Try this First... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the iPod Off... ( if it isn’t already )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... (But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    Turn the iPod On...
If that does not help... See Here:

Do a reset of everything on your ipod. Then reconnect it and it should work.
