Problem restoring iPod.

I think I've gotten myself into a big problem. Okay, last week, I couldn't put songs on my iPod so I decided to use EPH Pod instead of iTunes to do this. Now, my iPod is skipping songs, and when it plays them it only plays the beginning then skips. Okay, I want to restore the iPod now, but when I go into the ipod updater, it says Cannot Mount iPod, PLEASE HELP ME!!

Go to find a Mac computer (if not, go to the nearest Apple Shop and ask them a favour), do a Restore there. Once it has been completed, replug your iPod with your PC (make sure to uninstall the EPH Pod first) and do a Restore back to PC version.

  • Problems Restoring Ipod w/ Itunes 7 (please respond)

So, I've had trouble getting my Ipod to update or restore using Itunes 7. I really need to update my Ipod so it will be compatible with my Bose Sounddock remote. Anyway, I uninstalled Itunes 7 and installed Itunes 6, (as I read in some of the previous posts) but I can't figure out how to restore my Ipod using Itunes 6. Is there anyway to get back to the original settings, (I made the mistake of updating to 1.2.1 and now it's stuck there) so I can update again? Thanks,
    -Mack

Well, you were completely correct with your fears. I just ran into this exact problem and was asked to restore my iPod to factory settings, but was unable to to so since the option is not actually there.
    Much hate for the integration.

  • Problems restoring iPod because of connection to update server

My iPod hasn't been connecting correctly or updating correctly, and the support site told me I should restore my iPod after I've updated iTunes. I updated iTunes and attempted to restore the iPod, but when I click "restore," I get an error saying, "The iPod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."
As far as I can see, there's nothing wrong with my network. Help please?

I figured out my own problem...
I didn't know there was a firewall/virus protection program on. Just disable it and it will work.

  • Problem restoring ipod touch

more likely i have two problems...
-when i tried to restore my itouch i had a 3004 error and my ipod entered recovery mode
-i cant get out of recovery mode (means that every time i try to get out it goes to recovery again)
-and i still cant restore it
    please help me

Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.
    Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
So, are you repeatedly being asked to restore your iPod by iTunes similar to that described in this Apple support document?
[iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1456?viewlocale=en_US]
If the same message keeps appearing, you may have to reassign your iPod's drive letter. You can find instructions on how to do this in this Apple support document.

    Hope this helps.

  • Problem restoring ipod nano(4gb)

I accidentally unplugged my nano while it was transferring some new songs onto it. It wiped my whole ipod clean, yet when I click on the settings and select about it says there is only 2.7GB available. Anyways I tried the 5 R's but when I tried to restore it, it prompted me with an error that read "The iPod could not be unmounted because it is in use. Please close any open files on the iPod and try again." I'm not sure how I could do this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Problem restoring iPod touch 5

I am trying to restore my son's iPod touch 5 and am seeing the "To allow access, please respond on your iPod touch" message on the computer, and the "connect to iTunes" message on the iPod at the same time.  What am I supposed to be responding to?  Not sure exactly what OS he was up to. See below for visuals.

I did a five fingered magic swipe, while my wife was pushing all the buttons at once, and tried the process again.  Now it is working.

  • Problem restoring iPod nano 1st gen.

One day I just playing music as usual, and suddenly, my 1st gen just restart itself with an "use itunes to restore" message on it. So I plug it into iTunes to restore, after restoring, usually it will start up with freshly restored software (right?), but my iPod just start up with "use itunes to restore" message again! I try restoring it for few more times and it's still the same. What should I do?

Hmm... Have you tried putting the iPod into Disk Mode and then re-attempting this process? This will help the iPod stay mounted and appear as another external disk under "My Computer"
    [Putting iPod into Disk Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363]
Otherwise, I would try reformatting the iPod using the tools provided by Windows and see if that helps. Instructions on how to do this can be found below. After reformatting you will have to restore the iPod via iTunes.

  • I'm Having Problem Restoring my iPod

Ok so my one day I tried to put songs into my iPod Touch - 32GB
Then it keepsgetting an error something about sync.
I've been checking the forums and people say that the best way is to
restore your iPod. First what i did was reset my Unit then connected it to Pc
With itunes on it says that 'iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "iPod Touch" Go to the Summary tab in iPod Preferences and click restore to Restore it to it's factory Settings.'
(When it doesn't contain anythinig at all why cant it read contents? Lol)
Then When I tried to restore I keep getting Connection error everytime the download is 100%.
So then I tried manual restore, meaning I downloaded an ipsw restore file for the latest update.
5.1.1 9B206. Then It started extracting it was going good until it reaches 'Preparing to restore iPod' Then an Error came up.
Something about failing to restore because an unknown error Occured. Error 2005.
Now before I goe here, which is my last resort. I've done everything possibly that people posted here and everywhere else.
    *I've reinstalled iTunes
*I made sure iTunes is on latest verion. 10.6
*I removed every usb jacks except mouse and keyboard.
*I tried using the back USB ports.
*I removed everything, itunes, quicktime and mobileme and Reinstalled them.
    *Restarted alot of times.
    NOTHING SEEMS TO HAVE WORKED.
my iPod is working fine it's just that I cant place anything with it in iTunes. (As stated above sync problems.)
That's why im restoring it. Til now its working fine just really cant restore any sync it.

    Welcome to Apple Communities.
You can restore your device in it. Go to Settings > General > Restore > Erase All Content and Settings

  • HT201210 been trying to restore ipod touch for days after updating itunes. keep getting error #9. Tried it on 2 computers, with vista + XP. tried all the solutions posted. nothing is working. Thanks Apple. Didn't have this problem before updating itunes!

Been trying to restore Ipod touch for days after updating Itunes. Error code #9. Stuck on restore screen. Tried all the solutions posted. Tried on 2 computers, Vista + XP. No device shown on computer. Thanks Apple! Didn't have this problem before update. How about rolling back your update?

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if you manually disconnect the device during the restore process. You can resolve this issue by using USB troubleshooting, using a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • After restoring iPod it stops syncing half way

After restoring iPod, it stops syncing while it is downloading music with an error message "Attempting to copy to the disk. iPod failed. The disc could not be read from or written to".
My music is less memory than what my iPod can hold.
    What's up with this?
    THX!

It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.

actually i just found it!!!!!!!!!!! it was on another discussion page. after you open itunes, and your ipod is recognized & it says there's another version would you like to update, go ahead and update. As soon as the ipod looks like it got disconnected & goes back to its main menu screen, press & hold MENU & SELECT buttons on the ipod. the ipod will power down & do some stuff, & should turn back on, then it will allow the update!! i tried a bunch of things that didn't work, this MENU & SELECT business was quick & worked!

  • Can't restore iPod because it doesn't appear on desktop

I connected my ipod to my Mac, it showed up on the desktop but not in iTunes. The ipod window said Do not Disconnect. I waited a few minutes, then chose Eject iPod. I restarted the mac, reconnected iPod using a different FireWire port. The iPod no longer appeared on the desktop, and the Do Not Disconnect warning was still there. I switched to USB connection. No go. I ran Disk Utility Repair Permissions on my HD and restarted.
I've been downloading a lot of podcasts lately, don't know if that's the cause of this problem. I'm using iTunes 7.1.1 and Mac OS 10.4.9.
I found a solution for this problem in Archives, but it's dated 12/05, and I'm wondering if it still applies. Part of the solution says to run disk utility, select the ipod, then select Format. But I don't see Format as a choice on version 10.5.6 of Disk Utility. Maybe what was Format in 2005 is now called something else? Like maybe Partition? Here's the post (by john madson) from 2005:
"i can fix this but you will need a mac let me explain
when the last system update for mac os x tiger came through after you are done installing the update the update says it is optimizing the hard drive well it optimizes the hard drive on the ipod as well and cause the internal drive on the ipod to malfunction but this isn't apples fault this is caused by user error im sorry to say
in order to fix this on the mac

    2. of course a apple ipod mini usb cable
    3. apple ipod mini
    4. mac os x panther or tiger
    1.start up the mac computer
    2. connect the ipod to the computer don't worry if it doesn't appear on the desktop
3.go into utilites by double clicking on the hard drive icon and select utility
    4.run disk utility
5.you will notice the ipod will apear in the disk utility program but not on the desktop
    6. select the ipod in the left pane
    7. select format
    8. tell it to format it in a mac os extended partition
9.once this is done you will notice the ipod will apear as a removable hard drive but. do not disconnect the ipod
    10. run the apple ipod updater
    11.reinstall the latest updated firmware
    12.unplug the ipod
    13. replug in the ipod
    14. you will notice the ipod will apear as a ipod icon on the desktop

THE FIRST TIME THE IPOD IS RECONNECTED AFTER RUNNING THE IPOD UPDATER RE RUN THE UPDATER SELECT RESTORE THEN IT WILL FORMAT AND SET UP THE IPOD CORRECTLY

One more thing: I reset my iPod (toggled Hold, etc.). It appeared in iTunes but not on the desktop, with the message "If your experiencing problems with your iPod, you can restore its original settings by clicking restore." Which I did. Got a window asking if I wanted iTunes to check for a new software update. I said yes. Got an exclamation-point msg "There was a problem downloading iPod software. The requested resource was not found. "
