Problem restoring my files after system recovery

Hey so, I just recovered my system. The process had me backup all my files on an external harddrive. I now am trying to restore the files from the harddrive using the cyberlink recovery manager, the problem is that, everytime I run the app it freezes after about an hour. The progress bar remains at 0% even though i see files being copied below it. Any ideas on how to circumvent this? Do i need to use recovery manager? All the files in the folder are in some format that looks as though theyre useless without an app configuring them.

There is usually one file in the backup that has .EXE extension, maybe be named Restore.exe or Recovery.exe. Clicking it extracts the files.

  • Missing files after System Recovery, HP Pavillion G62, Windows 7, 64 bit.

    My 5 month old laptop is showing signs of slowing down. When this occurs I do a system recovery in an effort to correct any problems. After completion of system recovery I always get the following error;
(the system cannot find the file specified (Ox80070002))
                               C:\users\owner\applicationdata\locallow.
                               C:\users\owner\contacts.
                               C:\users\owner\searches.
The notice is in Notepad. None of the files can be found with a search from the main menu. If no refererence to the files can be found how does the computer know they exist? My feeling is that the computer cannot operate up to speed with missing files?
I do have some other oddities occuring but I don't think you can solve anything if files are missing.

Those are user file locations and will not affect windows or how it runs, you can ignore that error.

  • PLEASE PLEASE HELP lost files after system recovery

    Hello Everyone,
I did a system recovery, using a backup from last year. However, I lost all saved files since that last backup, including some VERY IMPORTANT family pictures. Is there anything that I can do to get those files back? Please help me guys, I am so torn right now and it's tearing me apart. Thank you so much for any help.

    Hi,
I have to agree with "lead_org", as the restore process might have left some "unrestored", but in the same time hidden part. So really in this situation, please try to use some "restore" tool, that will enable you to view "deleted" files.
Not really good news, I do understand it.
    Cheers

  • Garage Band fails to open files after system recovery

I recent had to have my hard drive replaced. When I got home I did a fully recovery. I was able to use logic studio with no problem. Then I opened Garageband. I could see my files however when I try to open the files, the message reads that the file cannot be opened. I then tried to run the ILIFE 09 disk to see if reloading the software would help. It did not. Can anyone tell me what may be going on here and how to fix it?
    Thanks

    Delete the Garageband Preferences.

ordered recovery media from Toshiba and installed it.  ....  I tried to call Toshiba support, but because I am outside my warranty, I was told I would be charged for support.
It is running Windows 8..even though it is supposed to be on 8.1 (according to the sticker on the bottom of the laptop).
The product key is buried in the hardware.
According to the spec above, the original model shipped with Windows 8 and needed to be upgraded. My guess is that they later shipped the same model with Windows 8.1.
It appears Toshiba shipped the wrong recovery media.
    Explain that when you call.

  • File recovery after system recovery?

One of our students has a laptop that has had a system recovery performed on it by someone else by holding the zero key while pressing the power button.  I'm trying to see if any file recovery is possible using standard forensic tools or suites.  I haven't been able to find out exactly how the system recovery process works so I don't know what I have to work with.  Does anyone know how the original partition is cleaned up before copying the files from the hidden backups?
Thanks in advance for any help or information you can offer.

  • Restore Photoshop Elements 2 updates lost after System Recovery

I have a copy of Photoshop Elements 2 that came over on the Mayflower in my computer... Last week I had to do a system recovery (restoring to factory settings).  I was able to load in the disc without trouble, but the updates to the original software are no longer available.   How can I restore the updates I've used and enjoyed over the past what...7 years?  Is there a "Key" I can buy, a secret handshake...or maybe a guy who knows somebody who knows a guy?
The program was running in XP....  Stop laughing.

    Updates are here

But there seems to be only a minor one for PSE2.

  • How can I access restored pdf files after an operating system reload?

was running Windows 8.1 w/ latest updates.  developed network properties errors. backed up all docs and restored PC back to Windows 8. Now, the restored pdf file security settings will not allow opening.

Gosh. I found that I need to open the properties page for a pdf file; go to the security tab and click the advance button. Then click 'change' to the right of the owner line, and add me as   a user, and then give myself full permissions.
OK, NOW, how can I do this globally at one time to affect all of my pdf files?

  • Resoring partial backup after system recovery?

    HP Pavillion D4990y
    Vista Ultimate X86 at SP2
Had to do an HP System Recovery (F11 during POST).  Chose to do a partial system backup (creates *.zip files) to an external HDD and followed instructions.  After recovery, cannot restore.
This seems to be a widespread problem when trawling the WWW.
What's the trick, here?  I can get the User files back, but I surely would like to restore the software and other programs added after purchase.

Hello AlphaBeta, Anytime you do a HP Recovery Restore, it is always recommended to perform a backup first, of your important data. There is always a risk that something may go wrong when performing a HP Restore Recovery.
HP also recommends performing a destructive recovery, that will format the hard drive and wipe the hard drive clean.
I have never used the method you mention, but if you have access to some zip files, you may be able to unzip these files and gain access to the files in the zip package.
    Just some thoughts.

  • Unable to restore my files with Hp Recovery Manager

HP Pavilion G6, operation system Windows 7, we got a malicious software and after we were unable to start the windows, I decided to do a factory restore but before that, I did backup my files from start-up menu with HP Recovery Manager. After the backup was finished successfully, I did the factory restore. And when I would like to restore my files, (I clicked to restore file in the backup, and the restore was finished successfully) I see just the folders, the files I cannot see but they are there. If I go to properties I see the files are there. Also I can see them if I extract with the 7Zip program. But extracting with 7Zip program I can see the files with no folders structure and I cannot see the files names, just numbers. If somebody can help me, I would highly appreciate.

Inside the dated backup folder should be a a file called restore.exe or
RecoveryMgr.exe, execute it, it should extract your files and create a "system Recovery" folder on the C drive with your files and folders inside.

  • After system recovery on a Pavilion 513n with XP SP2 I cannot run CD's created with Iomega Hotburn.

I have a 9 year old Pavilion 513n running Windows XP SP2.  I have two RAM sticks, one of 1GB (added) and one of 256MB (the original with the computer).  The hard drive is a Western Digital 80 GB.  The CD/DVD drive is the original with the computer.  I recently had to do a system recovery due to a corrupted Windows file using the HP System Recovery Disks and an SP2 disk from Microsoft.  Since then, the computer will not recognize nor read CD's created on an Iomega external CD burner using Iomega Hotburn software.  These CD's worked fine previously even after system recoveries.  Other CD's run fine.  I have done previous system recoveries in the last nine years, and have never encountered this problem before.  I am hoping someone else may have run into this and can help me.
    Thanks

I think this problem is more of a hardware issue.  Have you tried using a linux live cd?
If it boots fine into safe mode then it is an installation/driver issue.  Safe mode bypasses most driver problems.  I would suggest you try using virtual pc from microsoft it is free and try it withing windows it is very, very easy to use to set up a virtual machine.
It COULD be a hard drive issue, if so i would try a low level seek format, and then install windows.  Low level formats are NOT windows formats. Try installinf say PCLinuxos 2007 and if that works there is a problem with your drivers.
Ultimately it may well come down to hardware, just use other options to actually isolate if it is a hardware problem or not.

  • Windows Update extremely sluggish/useless after system recovery.

    Hello there,
While trying to help a friend with his laptop, I have come across a bit of a problem, which seems fairly unique. After having searched the 'net and the Knowledge Base I am about as clued in as when I started, which is to say not very.
    Machine: Satellite 1800-412 (Danish).
Did: Recover system to scratch back to XP SP1a (DK).
Problem: After doing a complete system recovery using the original recovery CDs, Windows Update runs *extremely* slowly, if at all, once it gets to the point where it scans for which updates you need. I have so far managed to get one (1) update downloaded, a small one. As an update is attempted the CPU usage peaks to 100% and stays there until I give up and hard reboot, since the machine is now nearly useless and sluggish to the point of appearing frozen.
Tried to: Manually applied different updates downloaded directly from Microsoft, like Internet Explorer 6 sp1, XP SP2 (DK), different updates and patches to XP, downloaded and checked/tried to reinstall drivers from Toshiba (they are up to date). Checked that systems boots cleanly with all devices recognized. Checked the system clock. Searched the Toshiba KB, searched the internet, searched the Toshiba support forum. Pulled some hair in desperation. I must have restored the system 4 times by now in order to try different ways of patching the system with updates.
Peculiarities: It is apparently *only* Windows Update, which causes this problem, and only after the very first little bit, where it updates the Windows Update engine inside Internet Explorer. Before I attempt to run an update the machine apparently works normally. I can surf, download, install and run programs and what not. (No, I did not visit any suspicious websites.) If Windows Update runs automatically in the background / 'in the tray', the very same thing happens: Machine suddenly becomes useless and stays that way.
The machine is on a local area network behind a bullet proof OpenBSD firewall, no other Windows machines on the inside, so there is zero chance of a fast infection from the network causing the problem.
Unfortunately: Manually downloading and applying the patches is not an option as I want to activate Automatic Updates before handing the machine back to its owner.
Hope some of you might have an answer to this one, as I have never experienced nor heard about something similar before.
    Frank.

    Hi Stefan,
Yes, that might be a possible solution, and I have been thinking along those lines myself. The trouble being that I don't have a CD with the correct version of XP (XP Home Edition, Danish) for which the machine is licensed, and here in the middle of the holiday season I have a bit of a problem tracking one down. I even tried calling Microsoft support and Toshiba to see if they would be kind enough to mail me a spare CD. No such luck.
The machine is used by a friend of mine, who has a severe physical disability. It is his main 'communication platform' and he operates it using a single button switch interface. So every additional day of downtime is a bit of a problem. I will probably have to reinstall it for now using the SP 1a base software, then completely disabling the network interface to avoid infections while I look for a XP CD.
The closest I can come to an explanation is that 'something' that Windows Update automatically installs conflicts with the factory supplied software. The problem happens even with a completely freshly recovered setup, so I was hoping this would be a known if perhaps a bit obscure problem.
    Thanks again. :-)
    Frank.

  • Wrong version of Win 7 after system recovery.

My Pavillion dv7 I purchased from Best Buy about 6 months ago hiccuped and died. I wasn't able to do a system recovery, but was able to do a system restore.  After figuring out that I needed to turn off the wi-fi, I have stumbled across another problem.  The activiation key on the sticker on the bottom of the computer will not activate Win 7.  The sticker says that it is for Win 7 Home Premium while Win 7 Home Basic is currently installed.  How can I unlock the correct version of Win 7 that was installed AND PAID for on this computer so it will function again.
    Thanks!!

The computer was completely dead at start up. Tried to do a system recovery, but none of the older restoe re points were any good. System restore was my only option.
As for the restore disk, I didn't realize this computer came with any. I'll look again through my stuff to see if I have them. If I do, then just pop them in and let 'er rip? If no disks, then what?
Do you still have the recovery partition?? You could mark the recovery partition (Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Disk Management) as active and reboot. It will (should) act like with the recovery disks in..
If all fails, install an OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium (borrow, download etc..) and use the product key from the bottom of the laptop...
