Problem restoring my library from backup DVD's

Here is my situation. . . . I recently had an internal hard drive crash that contained all of my 45 GB of music. . . The hard drive that crashed was my secondary, internal hard drive (F drive). Luckily, I created a back-up DVD of my entire library last March.
To replace the failed hard drive, I purchased a 250GB Lucie, external hard drive, connected through my USB port. I removed iTunes, reinstalled on my original hard drive (C drive), and attempted to import the library to the new external hard drive. Everything was moving (DVD, progress window, External hard drive) and copying, but as soon as it gets to song 310 (of over 1200 songs) on a DVD, it stops importing and says there was a failure on the Lucie hard drive.
In the options menu, under advanced, I have "iTunes Music folder location as simply "F:\" Is this my problem?
Does anyone have an idea?
Am I trying to import to many songs at one time?
Please help. . . .

It might be a problem with the DVD, try importing
each song one at a time or in groups where you do
song 1 to 309, skip 310 and goto 311 to 1200
That solved it! Although it means some of my CD's will be missing one track. . . .But it's better than not having any songs!

  • How do I restore iTunes library from Backup files on External Hard Drive?

How do I restore iTunes library from Backup files on External Hard Drive and keep the new iTunes library on the External Hard Drive. I have all the media and playlist and .xml .itl files, just want the iTunes to recognise the content.
I backedup my iTunes content by dragging to External Hard Drive. Formatted and reinstalled OS. My iTunes content is so large, that I wish for the Library and content to remain on the External Hard Drive. I have all the music files and playlists, I just cannot get the iTunes application to display all the content. Hoping to Not have to drag and drop all the content to be recopied into new iTunes organised files.
Troubleshooting this by researching other conversations on the web, I have come stuck for a solution. One Troubleshoot told me to hold down the Command key and then lauch iTunes and a dialogue box will appear to Choose a new library, however when I try this, no Dialogue box appear to give me the option!?

It sometimes has that funny switch symbol on it too.

  • How Do I Solve this Problem when Copying Library from Backup Disks?

I recently had a pc problem that resulted in the repair company having to back up my hard drive (which included my I Tunes Library) onto DVDs.
When trying to upload the ITunes library from the DVD to my new computer (after downloading I Tunes software), about half of my library uploaded fine.
The other half is indicated in my new I Tunes library, but when I click on it it says that such songs "could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
When I attempt to locate it, I cannot find it on the disk. But it must be there, I am guessing, because it loaded, albeit in the inaccessible form, into the new I Tunes library?
When I open the disk in my D drive, I cannot find the songs that will not open; it appears that the people who backed it up, only made it through the "Ds". But again, that is inconsistent with the fact that the inaccessible songs' titles were uploaded to the new I Tunes library.
I am totally stumped. Is there any way to fix this? I am faced with losing half my library.

CAn anyone tell me how to get out of this iphone recovery? thanks!!

  • Restore Hard Drive from Backup DVD's

    Own 4 HP G7 Windows 7 system
one computer was showing the fan was overheating and requested to be turned off soon
    turned it off
Took hard drive out of the unit A with the fan problems and swapped with the hardrive from
    unit B (another G7)
Computer A or B would not boot properly
So I ran a HP backup of the Hard drive from A which is now in unit B requested 10 DVD's seems to have backuped with out problems but could only boot in safe mode
Took the unit A in for repair-Fan was dirty, they cleaned it, and it worked fine-exchanged hard drives back to origiinal state A with A and B with B
B started without a problem and was normal
A had problems and the tech said they need to reinstall opeating system to boot but would not damage data.
Opened B but it had no data.  Used the DVD to restore but hung up on 2nd DVD at 4 % and said could not find hard drive (1st DVD was OK)
All 10 DVD have swm files so I took it to a data recovery repair shop.  They said they can read and retrieve most files but when un zipped they were corrupted and could not be read.
Need the data for my son's college work stored.
DVD's seem to have data but can not retrieve or reload.  Original haed drive in A seems to have been over written and data is no longer there but have DVD's the backup was with HP software onto DVD but can not retrive the files. Can HP retrieve the compressed files from the DVD's for a restore?
Seems that the units both G7's had different proceessors one was dual he other not and the backup was made while the hard drives were swapped out.  Please advise as what can be done.

    Hi @TonyBlair1 ,
Thank you for your inquiry,  I will do my best to assist you!
Please remember when posting to include your exact model of G7 you have.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
I grasp that you have 4, G7 notebooks running Windows 7.  Computer A had a overheating issue and you removed the hard drive and swapped it with computer B.
    Neither computer would boot properly.
So you ran a backup from A which is in computer B from safe mode.
You took unit A in and had it repaired.
You replaced drive A into computer A and drive B back in computer B.
    B worked normally.
    Now Drive A Computer A
The tech advised you that you need to reinstall Windows to boot but it would not affect your files. You attempted to use your DVDs to do a restore but on 2nd DVD you get an error no hard drive found.
First I would like to clarify, did you do a Microsoft backup and restore or did you do a HP recovery and backup?
As you did stated you used HP software I am providng links on recovery.
Using System Recovery, Factory Reset and Minimized Image Recovery Options
Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 7)
Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7)
    I hope this helps.

  • How to restore iTunes library from backup?

A large percentage of my iTunes songs have become corrupted. (Seemed to happen when I installed 7.3) Luckily I have a recent backup of my hard drive, so I want to reinstall the library.
What are the steps to take? Do I simply delete my old iTunes library folders and copy the "good" folders in their place? Or do I need to restore the iTunes database, prefs, etc.?

  • How to  restore ITunes Library from Backup hard drive?

My computer crashed. I restored it -- but ITunes was wiped clean. I have all my music files and ITunes Library backed up on an external hard drive. How do I get the library from the external drive back to the computer with playlists, artwork and all intact? I guess it is more complex than just dragging the file labled library into ITunes becuase the computer won't let me do that. When I go to the original songs they are all individually in folders accorging to the artist and album -- that will take days to copy each album 1 by 1 -- I have 3,700 songs.

What you first need to do is Place the music it the Location they was in before you restored. If you had songs on the C drive in My Music folder, place them there. If iTunes was reading the music from the external, not much you have to do sincve there already there.
Now with the Library file you have to make iTUnes take the file and recreate it, this is explained here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313

  • Restore iPhoto library from backup

I am running iPhoto '09 (v.8.1.2) on a 2006 iMac. I installed OSX (v.10.5.8) in early 2010. A few backups were performed before it started crashing while trying to backup. I am not able to upgrade at all due to hard drive constraints spacewise, so I have to work within the versions I have.
The hard drive has been diagnosed as dying and needs to be replaced. I've put it off due to financial reasons.
Meanwhile, I had moved my photo library to external HD #1 to free up space on the iMac HD.
The few backups that worked were sent to external HD #2.
    External HD #1 has died.
I can see that there is a photo library in my backup from last March, but need to know how to restore it.
I tried a solution I found (close iPhoto, in Finder, open the folder with the current library, enter time machine, choose a backup, and find the library and click restore), but I was not able to click restore - it wasn't an option.
Right now, I have another photo library that I use when I open iPhoto. It's on the same external HD as the backup. Will this be a problem to restore from the same disk?
I have a new external HD that I haven't connected yet (will be doing that tonight) - if I need to employ it for this process, I can do that.
I know that there are special steps to do this, but with such old versions of everything, it's hard to find an answer that applies.

    Nikononkin wrote:
if I try to use load it holding option while opening iPhoto, I get the message that says "The iPhoto library is a Time Machine backup and cannot be used as the main library."
That's correct; you can view or restore from the backups, but you can't use them with the app itself.
When I enter TM while in iPhoto, I see only one set of photos, and it's the library currently loaded as my library (a photo library under another user account of mine on this computer).
In that case, you can't use the special iPhoto Time Machine browser.  You'll have to do it the old-fashioned way, via the Finder:
Since the original disk (external #1) is no longer attached, use the procedure in #E3 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting.  Navigate to the iPhoto library in question, select it, and click the Restore button.  Select the destination, and it should be restored.

  • Cannot restore iPhoto Library from Backup Files

Help! All of my photos in the iPhoto library are suddenly gone. I read through a number of threads addressing similar problems and have tried the following fixes to no success:
    1. I dragged the Photo Library to my desktop and opened iPhoto while holding down the Option key. When I tried to import my library into iPhoto it says that most of my files are unreadable. The photo files seem to be all there on my hard disk, but they are saved as "data" files and not as jpgs or other photo files. Now--some of the photos did import, but only about 30% of the previous library.
    2. I restarted and then opened disk utility to repair my permissions, but Disk Utility was unable to complete the operation and I received an error message stating that Disk Utility lost contact with the Disk Management Tool. ??
I downloaded Backup to my computer a couple weeks ago, and after I began using this program, this is when all of my photos disappeared from my iPhoto library.
Does any computer genius know how to restore photos to iPhoto that are saved as "data" files on the hard drive? I fear I've lost all of them.
    I'm using iPhoto 4.0.3

Move the iPhoto Library folder back into the Pictures folder. Find the "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" file in your user account's "Library >Preferences" folder and move that file to the trash. Then start iPhoto while holding the option+shift keys. Confirm that you want to rebuild the photo database, then click "Save" in the next dialog. See if that brings your photos back.

  • Advice needed for reinstalling iTunes and restoring my library from backup

I have some issues with my PC (Windows XP) that are not related to iTunes. But I am about to wipe my machine clean. Here is what I plan to do:
    0) Sync iPhone with iTunes
    1) De-authorize my computer with iTunes
    2) Wipe my hard drive, reinstall XP
    3) Reinstall iTunes from scratch
    4) Restore my music library (my documents) folders from an external hard drive.
    5) Authorize my computer again
I know that authorizing the computer is necessary in order to play purchase songs. Is there anything I have do in order to use applications on the iPhone? Any steps I have missed here?
    Advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You better ask this question over in the iPhone forum, too - I don't have an iPhone, so don't know where the iPhone apps are stored.
Anyway - the first thing to do is deauthorize your PC.
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/authorization/
Second, make sure you have a good backup of you itunes library database.
It's the ITL file mentioned here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660
When you reinstall XP, make sure you use the same Windows username as before.
And make sure your exHD has the same drive letter as before.

  • How to Restore iPhoto Library from BackUp?

My iPhoto library has gone blank, although its trash has the 4,555 images. And all organization, albums, keywords, photo names, gone. Recently my backup storage, where library kept, went blank. I got a new backup, and a pro restored most of old data, and transfered to new one. So, I have the Library on the new backup, and need to restore it in the iPhoto Library, rather than create a new one, which as I understand will lose albums, keywords, etc. A friend says that way to hold down a key when opening iPhoto that will have it look for old library and restore? Not in Help or elsewhere.
I had a MacBook Pro, when this first happen. Now have iMac and have iLife 09, but don't want to instal it until photo library restored.
Sounds basic, but how to restore.
    Thanks,
    Armando

    Armando
The simplest way to restore is to put the Library in the Pictures Folder and launch iPhoto.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' To select a Library.

  • Restored iTunes Library from backup, but Missing Artwork

    Hello
I had to reinstall iTunes 8. Fortunately, I had a clone of my HDD from just the day before. After the iTunes reinstallation, I replaced the iTunes Library and iTunes Music Library.xml files with my back up versions. Once I opened iTunes it took its time rebuilding the Library with the result being my ratings, play counts, and lyrics all where they were supposed to be. I am happy!
However, while that metadata was good, I noticed that I was missing artwork for a lot of the music files. It so happens that artwork was present in the iTunes Store purchased music, and in the files that had the artwork embedded via drag and drop (i.e., art was part of actual song file). On the other hand, every file that originally had images via Get Album Artwork was not referencing the Album Artwork folder (i.e., art not part of actual song file but referenced .itc files). So, no artwork.
How do I get that artwork back? All the images are still in the Album Artwork folder, restored from my backup, but I cannot find a way to make itunes reference them again! Why does the Library.xml restore all the iTunes-specific information for a track except the artwork?
Why do I not just use the Get Album Artwork feature again, you may be thinking? Because for most of the songs iTunes had the ID3 tag info wrong. After importing the music and matching the track names to iTunes Store to grab the artwork, I modified the ID3 info to more correctly reflect the artist, album, and track names. To rename the files to match iTunes Store, and then name them back to how I like them will take days.
So.. am I out of luck? Is there a way to actually backup iTunes information so that songs keep their references to the .itc files in the Album Artwork folder?
I thank you for your time reading this.
    cheers!

  • Restored my library from backup discs, need help with album art/playlist

Good morning everyone. Using the great information on this site I have successfully backed up "my library". I then reformatted my hd and reinstalled win xp and itunes. I was also successful in using the awesome restore feature of itunes. "My library" is back 100%.
The only thing left is the album art and my playlists- both currently on my ipod. My question is how do I update "my library" and "my playlist" from my ipod? I am worried that if I plug in my ipod without knowing what to do then my ipod will try to match "my library" (which does not have artwork) and thus my ipod will delete the album artwork. I have several thousand songs and would HATE to lose that artwork since it would be a time consuming pain to update those manually. Also I have 20 or so playlists on my ipod. I am afraid of losing those (currently on ipod) when I connect to itunes since it will try to update and match the now empty/blank playlist currently in itunes.
I am sure these are easy solutions for you pros out there. That's why I am asking! You folks have always given the proper help and advice whenever an issue has arisen. Thanks in advance!

    clever point...

some album covers just aren't exactly square, particularly if the CDs are sold in cardboard flip-cases.
I deal with artwork in a more hap-hazzard way, but most of the time, i get SQUARE results...
Just Google the album title, then click the IMAGES tab. More times than not, I find the album cover in multiple sizes and about every time, at least one version that is truly square.
All i need to do then is click the image, then again at the top of the resulting Google page (to show just the image - out of it's surrounding page), then drag the image directly to the Album Artwork Placeholder in the GET INFO tab (that has already been opened on multiple items - the whole album).

  • HD failure.  Want to restore iTunes library from backup

The hard drive containing my music died. Fortunately, I have a (manual) backup of all the songs/artists on another hard drive. I also have a backup of the iTunes Music Library.xml and iTunes Library files.
I moved the xml and library files to my Music folder. I attached the backup hard drive and changed the location of my library in iTunes preferences to look for my songs there. I hit Consolidate. All the songs show up in the library, but a load of them have the dreaded exclamation point and have no link.
I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks so much for any help!

That setting in Prefs tells iTunes where to put music when you import...not where to find your library. Try launching iTunes while holding down the option key, then tell it where to find the library.

  • Restoring itunes library from a backup

I copied my iTunes folder into a backup drive. My hard drive died, and now I want to "re-connect" my iTunes with its library. How can I do it? Simply pointing iTunes to the library location doesn't work.
I need to be able to sync my iphone, etc... Help!

When restoring Itunes library from a backup DVD, will it overwrite anything already in the library?
    No.
