Problem retrieving BLOB column

I'm using PB 12.5.1 / DB2 Version 10 / ODBC driver
When executing this embedded SQL Statement in the application, I'm getting a popup window asking me to "Select Data Source"
SELECTBLOB BLOB_OBJECT
INTO :LB_TEST
FROM BLOB_TABLE
WHERE BLOB_NAME = 'BANANA.JPG'
Having the user manually select the ODBC DataSource from within the application is not an option for us.
I also tried with "USING SQLCA", that didn't make any difference.
Is there any specific transaction object/parameters that need to be defined for SELECTBLOB ?

Hi Ganesh;
This problem can be caused by:
a) Improper settings in the SQLCA transaction object for your DBMS.
b) Missing or miss-matched DSN
c) DSN is not a SYSTEM defined DSN.
d) DSN is not configured properly.

Problem with blob column index created using Oracle Text.

I'm running Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.1.0 standard edition one, on windows server 2003 R2 x64.
I have a table with a blob column which contains pdf document.
Then, I create an index using the following script so that I can do fulltext search using Oracle Text.

However, the index is not searchable and I check the following tables created by database for my index and found them to be empty as well !!

I wonder what's wrong with it.
My user has been granted the ctx_app role and I have other tables that store plain text which I use Oracle Text are fine. I even output the blob column and save as pdf file and they are fine.
However the database seems like not indexing my blob column although the index can be created without error.
Please advise.

The situation is I have already loaded a few pdf document into the table's blob column.
After I create the Oracle text index on this blob column, I find the system generated index tables listed in my earlier posting are empty, except for the 4th table.
Normally we'll see words inside the table where those are the words indexed by oracle text on my document.
As a result, no matter how i search for the index using select statement with contains operator, it will not give me any result.
I feel weird why the blob is not indexed. The content of the blob are actually valid because I tested this by export the content back to pdf and I can still view and search within the pdf.

Problem displaying Blob column as an image

Hi all,
Ik have created an attribute (as part of an Entity Object and a View object) on top of a blob column.
With JHeadstart I generated one insert group (display type fileUpload) and one query group (display type image).
I managed to upload (and store) pictures.
However when I query the pictures the folowing occurs:
1. when I scroll through the records the first time the picture is shown OK
2. the secod time when I scroll through the same dataset the picture is not shown...
3. when I restart the pageGroup, the pictures are shown..
Do you have any suggestions?

Images in Blob Column..

Hi
I have a function that retrieves the blob column which has the image data. I cannot view this from Toad and get the value {hugeBLOB} when I query via Toad.
I used it in a VB.Net app, but I'm unable to reterive the image there also. Can you please suggest how I can retrieve blob column (which has images) into a .jpg format? I need to retreive the images based on the query.

Problem with download link for a BLOB Column in a "Classic report"

I am having a problem where I cannot make a download link for a blob column function in a "classic" (non-interactive) report. I went through the tutorial on this topic and it was great help it working out the minor bugs, but I get a 404 error (apex_util.get_BLOB not found). For testing purposes I went ahead and created a an identical report on the same page that is an "Interactive report" and it works like a charm. Same query, same BLOB formatting Mask, pulling data from the same table. So, it really doesn't seem like an issue with the grants, since both reports should be executing as the same user.
I know it sounds like the obvious answer is to just go with the interactive report and my problem is solved, but the rest of this site uses classic reports, and I don't need the sort features of an interactive report, and the slightly different style of the the report really stands out even if I turn off all the bells and whistles. I don't want to change the css to make them look identical, I just want a regular report to work.

I eventually found another post: APEX_UTIL.GET_BLOB was not found on this server
In this post there is the suggestion of putting "dbms_lob.getlength("var")" after the date field in your select. So I changed my query to have it at the end, and now my format mask (DOWNLOAD:table_name:ATTACHED_FILE:FILE_ID::FILE_MIME_TYPE:FILE_NAME:::attachment:Download) works like a charm, in a classic report.

Problem displaying PDF stored in BLOB column

I've been trying to follow this tutorial http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::p11_question_id:232814159006 on displaying PDFs stored in BLOB columns. This is being performed on Apex 4.2, with my DB running 11g. I've got my procedure, which I'll post below:

I am trying to run this through a PL/SQL dynamic region and while I don't receive any error's, the content displayed is a huge mess of garbled text and odd characters. I've tried to run this procedure on numerous other document types, including word files and jpeg images, all with the necessary changes in my procedure, and regardless of what I use, I still get a large mess of strange characters. Does anyone have any information or ideas about why this is happening?

If I understand correctly, your requirements needs to be broken down into two problems:
1) click link that pops up a window displaying a new APEX page
2) an APEX page the displays the document, not downloads it.
I haven't done #1 (yet).
However, you may be able to generate a URL that points to the new page as part of the SELECT statement for the Report.
This has a related question, but no answer yet:

The key is target="_blank" for the anchor tag.
To generate the URL, you should use the APEX_UTIL.prepare_URL() function.
If that doesn't work, a Dynamic Action that does some magical JavaScript stuff may be needed.
For #2, I lost the URL that showed how to display a PDF as part of a "form" page.
From what I remember:
Start with a blank page with one blank HTML region (all the Items go in the HTML region)
Add an Item for the PK/Doc_ID

- Automated Row Fetch
- On Load - After Header
- (stuff for your table/view)
part I forgot Create an (I believe) "File Browser" item type. For Settings:
- Storage Type "BLOB column specified in Item Source" (and place the column name of the BLOB there)
- MIME Type Column: (column name) -- since you have multiple types, this is a MUST HAVE
- Filename Column: (column name) -- I highly recommend you have this.
- Content Disposition == INLINE <-- this is the kicker
Also, you will need a Browser Plugin for each of the MIME Types (otherwise, the browser may try to 'download' the file)
Browsers can handle Image types internally. Adobe's plugin can handle PDFs. I don't know about Word/Excel.
Again, I don't remember the exact details, but that should cover most of it.

URGENT: Problems Loading files with SQL Loader into a BLOB column

I read a lot about how to load files into blob columns, but I found errors that I can't solve.
I've read several notes in these forums, ine of them:
sql loader: loading external file into blob
and tried the solutions but without good results.
Here are some of my tests:
With this .ctl:

Persist document in BLOB column problem

Hi all,
I'm having problem with persisting document in BLOB column.
Using debuger I checked that document.doc contains correctly uploaded file before persist. There are other attributes of document and they are persisted correctly, but when I check blob size in database it size is 1byte which is incorrect.
After I persist second file, first one get his correct size value, and size of second one is 1byte.
If I stop weblogic server, second value will never be populated. If I only restart application without restarting server, and then upload third document, size of second one will be corrected.

Problem with BLOB image retrieval

We are on Coldfusion 9,0,1,274733. I checked on "Enable binary large object retrieval (BLOB)" on the database but the image is still cut off (3/4 partly grey). On our dev server it works perfectly, our production server just gives off the partly grey images. I checked the CF database settings between dev and production and they are exactly the same. We restarted the server but still the same problem. It is like Coldfusion doesn't see the setting changes. Anyone else has this problem?

We found the solution. Our production servers are in a clustered environment. You have to enable "Enable binary large object retrieval (BLOB)" at the instance cluster level. You will have to do this change on all the instances in the cluster. I was only enabling it at the "local" level on each server in the cluster (which didn't work).
In CF Admin:
Enterprise Manager > Instance Manager > select the instance and enable BLOB

Problem at update blob columns.

Hi,i have a table like this.
create table customer
(id number,
photo blob,
sign blob,
pass_view blob);
I have a form based to this table (at 9i) which has 3 image item.
By using webutil i read image files to this items and after commit i stored them to database.There is no problem up to this time,inserting data to database seems correct.
Now i want to update an imge from database and I open form again and execute query.All 3 images was seen.I changed 3rd pass_view image again by reading another image file from file system.After commit and execute_query again i understood that photo column is now having new pass_view image and pass_view column is null.
In trying different loading to different images,i have problems again.
Only if i read 3 images from 3 files to image items again,i have no problem in updating.
Is there a problem in having 3 blob columns in a table?

I have the problem even with 2 images (2 BLOB fields in table).
Forms application updates the first image if you replace only the second image. If you replace both images everything is correct.
Honestly speaking I have this problem with 9.0.2 version and probably in couple weeks I'll test it on 9.0.4.

Retrieving contents of a BLOB column using XSQL

I am using a simple XSQL page to retrieve some data from a 9i database and the majority of it works fine.
When I try and retrieve data from a BLOB column I just get a stream of numbers in the result when I am expecting to see some XML data.
Query:

Problem in uploading a file to BLOB column in ADF

Hi,
I was trying to upload a file and storing into BLOB column in the DB. I was trying the exercise that was given in
http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/09/23/notYetDocumentedAdfSampleApplications.html85th sample application.
When I was running my application, it kept on repeating the 'Please supply a valid file name to upload' messge. I do select a file and then click 'Upload' button. While clicking 'Upload' button I am getting this messge.
Could you please help me in resolving this issue?
And I see 10.1.3.2 version of jdev ready for download in forum. Could you please tell me whether the issue that was present in uploading a file to the database is resolved in this version or not? Can I use this version for my ADF application?
Please let me know.

The example doesnt work correctly. It throws an exception as in http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/10.1.3.1/10.1.3.1addendum.html#upload
It is also mentioned that 10.1.3.2 doesnt have this issue. So can I use the recent jdev for my ADF application?

Problem with loading file to BLOB column

I am attempting to load up a .gif gile into a BLOB column in my database.
I created the directory as below:

The file is definitely in the C:\temp folder and is named correctly. I am working in WinXP with Oracle10gXE and both server and client are on the same machine.
The procedure compiles without any errors but when I attempt to run it I get an error message as below:

When you create objects on the database they are stored in the data dictionary by default in UPPER case.
So in this line:
src_loc bfile := bfilename('example_lob_dir', 'example.gif'); -- source location
you need to reference the name of the directory object in upper case. e.g.
src_loc bfile := bfilename('EXAMPLE_LOB_DIR', 'example.gif'); -- source location

I am developing an Application Jdveloper 10.1.3.1 and jhs 10.1.3.
I have a blob column in witch I want to upload an image.
I have generated application using jhs without applying any changes in generated application,

Using JDeveloper 10.1.3.1, There is a caveat if you generate file upload in your JHeadstart application, see http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2006/10/20.html#a753
You need to install Patch 5623059 from http://updates.oracle.com/ARULink/PatchDetails/process_form?patch_num=5623059 (log in with your Metalink username/password).
Also, file upload in ADF is only supported on Intermedia columns like ORDSYS.ORDDOC or ORDSYS.ORDIMAGE, the column type BLOB is not supported by ADF for file upload, and subsequently not supported by JHeadstart.
