Problem running a simple Hello World RMI Program

I wrote a simple RMI application, consisting of a Server Interface, Server Implementation and a Client.
Since the codes are really small, am pasting them here so that you could identify the problem if any, in the code.
1. Server Interface......
import java.rmi.* ;
public interface HelloInterface extends java.rmi.Remote
     public void sayHello(String arg) throws RemoteException ;
2. Server Implementation......
import java.rmi.* ;
import java.rmi.server.* ;
public class HelloImpl extends UnicastRemoteObject implements HelloInterface
     public HelloImpl() throws RemoteException
          super() ;
     public void sayHello(String arg) throws RemoteException{
          try{
               System.out.println("RMI Program : Hello "+arg) ;
          catch(Exception e){
               e.printStackTrace() ;
               //throw new java.rmi.UnexpectedException("undeclared checked exception", e);
     public static void main(String[] args) throws RemoteException
          try{
               if( System.getSecurityManager() == null )
                    System.setSecurityManager( new RMISecurityManager() ) ;
               HelloImpl impl = new HelloImpl() ;
               Naming.bind("HelloService",impl) ;
               System.out.println( "Service bound..." ) ;
          catch(Exception e){
               e.printStackTrace() ;
               //throw new java.rmi.UnexpectedException("undeclared checked exception", e);
3. Client Code.
import java.rmi.* ;
import java.rmi.Naming.* ;
class RMIClient
     public static void main(String[] args)
          try{
               if(System.getSecurityManager()==null)
                    System.setSecurityManager( new RMISecurityManager() ) ;
               HelloInterface helloInt = (HelloInterface) Naming.lookup("rmi://sand.cise.ufl.edu/HelloService") ;
               helloInt.sayHello("Ranjit") ;
          catch(Exception e){
               e.printStackTrace() ;
I have double checked the classpaths and they all look fine..
I have even unset the classpath from the shell which runs the rmiregistry..am still getting these errors..
1. If i use the default java to run the application..this is the error that it spits..
sand:24% java -Djava.security.policy=java.policy HelloImpl
java.rmi.UnexpectedException: undeclared checked exception; nested exception is:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: HelloImpl_Stub

at sun.rmi.server.UnicastRef.invoke(UnicastRef.java:350)
... 3 more
2. Using java from some other location..the error looks different...but in both cases it just gives errors :((

I am embarking on a huge assignment but if am having problems getting started..
Your help will be highly appreciated..
thanx and regards

First of all you should be posting this Q in the RMI forum :)
You are getting that error because your stub is not in your clients classpath (or u can say the compiler is not able to find it).
Make sure that the file HelloImpl_Stub is in the client classpath/package.

  • Basic (and I mean basic) java problem with a simple hello world script

    I have a simple cut-and-paste html page and java class in my /home/jc158027/java directory.
    jc158027> cat HelloWorld.java
    import java.applet.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class HelloWorld extends Applet{
    Label helloLabel = new Label ("Hello World");
    public void init () {
      setBackground (Color.yellow);
      add (helloLabel);
    }Ok, so I javac HelloWorld.java and get HelloWorld.class, so far so good.
    Next I create my html page:
    jc158027> cat hw.html
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <TITLE>Jay's Java Test Page</TITLE>
    <BODY>
    <HR>
    This line of text comes before the applet.<P>
    <APPLET CODE = 'HelloWorld.class" WIDTH=500 Height=90>
    </APPLET>
    <P>
    This line of text comes after the applet.
    </BODY>
    </HTML>The result is that the text lines work, I get a nice grey box with no applet running. Looking at my console I get the following error:
    Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: /home/jc158027/java/HelloWorld/class".class (No such file or directory)
    What I don't understand is the HelloWorld/class".class portion, shouldn't it be just either HelloWorld".class or HelloWorld/class, it is as though it is trying to look in a directory (class) that does not exist.
    What am I missing here?

    And if you put dots in where it expects a class name, it assumes those dots are to separate levels in a package name.
    So it was looking for a class named "class", which would be in a file called class.class, in a package named "HelloWorld". Packages correspond to directories relative to some classpath root, so it looked for the directory HelloWorld to be the parent of the classes in the HelloWorld package.

  • Problem with a simple hello world JSP

    We have just installed WLS Express 7.0 (just downloaded) on a Solaris 8 server. Using the dmwiz.sh, we have created a new domain with a managed server. Both the Admin Server and managed server have started and are running. When I tried to load a sample web application (a war file that has a hello world JSP), I got a HTTP 500 internal server error in serving the hello.jsp page. This sample works fine in Windows WLS Express 7.0.
    Can someone please help? Thank you in advance.

  • Problems running a simple RMI

    Hi there,
    I have had alot of problems running a small RMI program.
    It has now boiled down to a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
    when i try to use my policy file.
    The program complies, when i run javac *.java
    It also creates the stub, when i run rmic.
    I have trawled alot of forums and the closest answer i got was "add your classpath".
    As im a student of java, this does not really tell me much.
    The class/java files are in
    C:\Documents and Settings\MONDARIZ\workspace\RmiHello\server
    The policy file is also in the folder.
    I must add, that the program is from an example, so i would not think there is any coding errors.
    Also when i run it en eclipse, i get "Hello server failed: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission 127.0.0.1:1099 connect,resolve)"
    So it seems something is running.

    The answer you found is correct. Java needs to know where to find the class files for execution.
    For starters, use the environment variable CLASSPATH. Set the value to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\MONDARIZ\workspace\RmiHello\server
    This way whatever you run (RMI Registry, Server, Client) has the proper class path. When you get everything running ok, then you can look into other methods of specifying where the class files are found.
    Eclipse, as well as command line Java starts, need to find the policy file. Set up this:
    -Djava.security.policy=C:\Documents and Settings\MONDARIZ\workspace\RmiHello\server\your_policy_file.xxx

  • Loading a simple Hello World Applet faster?

    I'm new to java. I;m trying to load the hello world applet but the problem is that it takes about 20 to 30 seconds to load at first attempt, I there a way to make this faster, i have tryed making a jar file and running that but nothing changes in speed.

    Well, it's always going to be slower to run the applet in a web page in a browser because you have the extra steps of the browser grabbing the files over the network, parsing the HTML fully, displaying the page, and starting the JVM. The appletviewer grabs the files locally, does a simpler parse of the HTML, doesn't have to display much HTML, and already is a JVM.
    In my experience, JVMs inside of browsers (the early days) were significantly slower than a JVM you invoked on the command line. Now that there's the plug-in, it's still slower but not by much.
    What browser are you using? Are you using a modern browser and the Java plug-in or are you using, say, and old browser with the JVM built in?
    Also, how long does it take to download the HTML and the class file from the server? What happens when you download them directly with something like wget or curl?

  • Simple "Hello world" servlet in sap j2ee 6.20

    Hello @ all,
    I want to develop a little "hello world" servlet which runs on a sap j2ee 6.20.
    Writing the code is not the problem
    But I do not know which steps I have to do in order to get the servlet to run.
    Do I have to create an ear-File? If yes how can I build an ear-File!
    Or is the a way to just create a folder in the root of the j2ee with an WEB-INF folder! I tried this but it dosn´t work!
    Is there perhaps a plugin available for eclipse 2.1 to develop and deploy the application to the sap j2ee??
    Thanks alot for your help!
    Best regards
    Kai

    Hi Kai.
    Coding is always cool!! Never a problem
    >>Do I have to create an ear-File? If yes how can I build an ear-File!
    Anyways, If you have created the J2EE application then you have to build a Web Applicatipn Project. And then give the reference of your application to this Web Application Project. Now craete a archive file of this web application project.
    When you will do this a <b>.ear</b> file will be created and a <b>.war</b> file will also be created in your application. Noe Deploy ear to J2ee engine. It will ask for the password of SDM. Give that password and it will be deployed on the SAP J2ee engine.
    To run the application write:
    http://<my_server>:<my_port>/irj/servlet/<my_application_name>/
    This will run your application. Hope this will help.
    Do award points if you find answer is helpful for you.

  • I'm not able to run a simple Hello Program in java

    I have just now installed jdk 1.3.1_2.
    I have set the path and class path.
    I'm able to compile the class without any errors but am not able to run the program.
    when i say java Hello(after compiling Hello.java), i'm seeing the following error:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoclassDefFoundError:Hello
    Thanks in advance in this regard

    Hmm..
    Okay.. set aside any import or package stuffs.. lets say about a simple HelloWorld program which is called Hello.class. It resides in c:\, which means the full path is c:\Hello.class.
    Make sure you got one of your path as c:\jdk1.3\bin(assuming you are using jdk 1.3).
    If you are in the same directory as Hello.class, which is c:\>, you can execute the class file by typing:
    C:\>java Hello
    If you are not in the same directory and you wishes to run the class file, example you are in directory temp now:
    C:\Temp>java -cp C:\ Hello
    So the cp set will be just c:\. Hope that answers your question somehow.. well... if I never intepret it wrongly.

  • Problems running a simple program

    I just installed java on my home machine and I am new to Java. I typed in a simple HelloWorld program and saved it to my c:\temp. It compiled ok and created a .class file. When I run that file, I get the following error message:

    Did you run with the command "java XXXX.class"?
    If so, you will get error message like you post.
    run like this:
    java XXXX
    (don't input ".class")

    I tried the following workarounds but not much of help:
    1) Tested the database connection in my jdeveloper which showed sucess !!
    2) In the run time connect dialog box, I have used FND as application short name and APPLICATION_DEVELOPER as responsibility key
    3) I reviwed all the steps in the document
    4) I checked if the DBC file is the correct one.
    It would be great if anyone of you can suggest some options or if the issue resolution. I am still doing research on this.

    Now I went to the path C:\OAF\jdevhome\jdev\myprojects\oracle\apps\fnd\hey\webui and see that HeyWorldPG.xml is available so I am not sure why the error is saying :
    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: No data found for region (/oracle/apps/fnd/hey/webui/HeyWorldPG).
    oracle.adf.mds.exception.MDSRuntimeException: Unable to find component with absolute reference = /oracle/apps/fnd/hey/webui/HeyWorldPG, XML Path = {1}. Please verify that the reference is valid and the definition of the component exists either on the File System or in the MDS Repository.
    I somehow unable to get out of this issue inspite of lot of research. Let me know if there are any workaround which I can try(Please note the page is run from JDEV and not applications).
