The motherboard overview states:  http://www.msi.com/product/mb/X48C-Platinum.html#/?div=Detail
Quote
• Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600 DRAM, 8GB Max
• Supports two unbuffered DIMM of 1.8 Volt DDR2 667/800 DRAM, 4GB Max
With the last BIOS, it states that 4GB modules may be possible, but looking at the memory test report http://www.msi.com/file/test_report/TR10_1393.pdf  it seems this was only done for DDR2 modules, as these are the only ones reflecting this.
Suggest you check with MSI technical if the BIOS should accommodate DDR3 4GB modules as well.  >>How to contact MSI.<<
Do a CMOS clear, then once in the BIOS, set your DRAM ratio so that the DRAM is at 1066. See if that works.

  • Pc won't run in dual channel mode

Hi.I have an msi P6N SLI motherboard which supports dual channel ram configurations.I first purchased four 1gb ddr2 pc 800 ram modules and the pc wouldn't boot so i have 2 1gb and 1 2g modules which work fine. When i remove the 2gb module and the 1gb modules are in either slots 1 and 3 or slots 2 and 4(dual channel) ,the pc wont boot. When in slots 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 it works fine again.
Is there some setting i must change in the bios to enable dual channel mode.Ive looked but can't seem to find anything and the manual doesn't say anything about changing settings.
     I would appreciate any help.thanks

the two 1 gb must be in slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 and the 2gb can be in any empty slot. then it should boot. why just do not get yourself 2 x 2gb ddr2 800. due to memory controller limitation 2x2gb is the best option for using window 32bits. and finally there is nothing in bios which can solve your prob. good luck

  • [Other 865 Series] MSI 865PE Neo2-V and Dual Channel Mode Question

Hello, I have a quick question regarding dual channel mode with my current motherboard. I have an MSI 865PE Neo2-V and am wondering if it is possible to enable dual channel mode while having three RAM modules inserted in the motherboard.
For example, I currently have one 512MB PC3200 module in my computer. If I purchase another 512MB module and run them in dual channel mode, will it be possible to buy a 1GB module or another size module, and still have all three slots run in dual channel mode? Or is dual channel only operational on this motherboard if only two of the three slots are occupied?
    Thanks.

Dual channel requires an even number of sticks.

  • Can I operate my new laptop in dual channel mode? 15-n216us

    Hi,
I have a new HP touchscreen 15.6" model 15-n216us.  It came equipped with a 4GB memory stick and one open slot.  I purchased an "identical" stick and installed it with no problems.  ("Identical" means same manufacturer - Kingston -, same size, numbers, etc... but they are not "twins" per se.)
I ran CPU-Z before and after the install and both times it showed the laptop running in single channel mode.  I swapped the sticks into opposite slots and ran it again.  Each time it shows 8GB memory running single channel.
So, my question is this.  Is this machine capable of running in dual channel mode?  (And it not, where would I have found this myself?)  If it does, does this mean that I have to buy "twins" ... ie two new paired 4GB sticks?  And lastly, am I really missing much by not running dual channel mode?
    Thanks!
    -CD

    From the Service Manual:
    DDR3L-1600-MHz dual channel support
Can we have the two Kingston stock numbers for the memory modules? Generally to run dual channel they do have to be identical and a difference in latency or any other parameter can block dual channel operation.

  • OCZ DDR3 1333 4gbkit PC3-10666 Reaper on MSI x48c platinum

    Hi to all,
i have recently bought this pc and having some problems with it.
    here is the specs:
    -msi x48c platinum (bios v.7.4beta previous 7.3)
    -intel core 2 q9550
    -2x2gb OCZ DDR3 1333  PC3-10666 Reaper
    -ati radeon4850 512mb
    -seagate 500gb hdd
the problem is that the mobo show me only 1067mhz for the memory instead of 1333mhz
and i have to reset the bios each time i want to turn on my pc otherwise it just wont boot up it crashes and try to boot again but with no luck.
i flashed the mobo with the 7.4 beta bios version but that didnt change a thing...
if any one has any solution that will be great.
    Cheers .

    hey Remus
do you have any other suggestions ?
any thing that might work is welcome
OCZ are well known for their messed up SPD settings and "factory overclocked" memory modules.
On the other hand, ELPIDA is a great chip maker:
Presuming your modules are using ELPIDA chips (OCZ is using Micron and ELPIDA chips mostly),
I don't know if you were lucky (DDR3-1333G) or not (DDR3-1066E).
Both chips can perform DDR3-1066 CAS6.
In any case, first of all you should try to set up the FSB/DRAM ratio in order to make them run at 1200-1266 MHz,
set the timings to 7-7-7-20 and the voltage to 1.75-1.80V
Take care: do not believe what OCZ states.
Any DDR3 voltage above 1.8V is very dangerous for the health of your memory modules and mainboard!
Also keep in mind: in many cases a damaged memory module comes with collateral damage (northbridge).
Obviously, OCZ is not going to pay for your damaged mainboard.
    good luck

  • K9N PLATINUM(NON SLI) DUAL CHANNEL MODE PROBLEM

    hi
put a new system together with the following specs:
    amd am2 3800+(2ghz)
    k9n platinum 1.20 bios
    2x512 kingston ddr2(667mhz)
pci video(yes not pci-e)have not decided which vid card to get yet.
    500w  psu 12v 35a,5v 25a,3.3v 25a
    liteon dvd burner
seagate 300gb ide  7200/16 meg cache windows xp-pro sp2 with all updates.
not overclocking or even trying to.
    no sata drives connected.
has never failed to post, boot windows and no lockups or blue screens.
ok,i am trying to get the memory to work in dual mode.
everytime i put the memory in the dual mode slots, the cpu clocks down to 1ghz instead of 2ghz.
    verified by bios,windows and cpu-id
    i have tried different memory(both ddr2 533 and 667)667 installed now.
also never had any install problems with windows and everything runs fine until i tried dual mode.
after the cpu clocks down to 1ghz,the only way to get it back to normal is a bios reset( load defaults
    or press red button).
if i leave the memory as single channel then i have no issues.
also cpu-id says the chipset for my board is nforce 550,i thought k9n platinum had 570 nforce chipset?
this might just be a problem with cpu-id though.
any thoughts on the cpu down clock problem in dual channel mode?
    thanks,jeff

1 assume you can get into BIOS with 1 stick only?
Go into the BIOS and manually set the timings and voltage to what your memory manufacturer recommends. Use a 2T command rate and see if it works.
Try both "sets" of dual channel slots, i.e. the two left slots or the two right slots.

sorry i dont know what you mean when you say amperage limits (A) on the +12V voltage rails
Look on the PSU sticker.  And write down the numbers.

Manually set the memory clock speed to DDR3-1066 for testing and see what happens.

  • MSI X48C Platinum - Graphic card identification problem

    Hi,
I have been having this problem for a long time which I still haven't been able to solve.
When I plug my graphics card to the PCI-E slot 1 (Slot closest to the cpu) I get nothing on my monitor. I have to plug it on to the  PCI-E slot 2 (PCI-E 4) to get anything on the monitor. I am running Windows 7 (64bit) Professional.
With this configuration (That is, the graphics card being installed in slot PCI-E4) I am getting a lot of blue screen failures due to  graphics card being non-responsive, especially when running graphic intensive programmes.
Here are the details of my PC configuration.
Motherboard - MSI X48C Platinum (MSI MS 7353)
    RAM  - 6GB DDR3
    Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300  -  2500Mz
    BOIS - Version 7.4V
    Graphics card - Hightech Radeon HD4870  1GB DDR5
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi go_for,
    Thanks for the reply.
I am using a Aerocool 750W  (model VP-750)power suppy and the graphics card is connected with 2 PCI-E power connectors from the power supply.
The problem is that it runs on the other pci-e slot not the first one. Could the first slot be defective?
    Thanks

  • MSI x48c platinum bios? ram? problem

    GFX:

    problem:
sometimes it does not boot at all, it just starts up and no screen displays, then after 5 seconds it shuts down and starts up again.
when this happens I power down the pc and push the reset button on the back of the motherboard.
It then starts up and there is display on the screen but then it gives the message: CMOS Settings Wrong, CMOS Date/Time Not Set, Press F1 to Run Setup Press F2 to load default values and continue
When I press F2 it boots into windows and the cpu runs fullspeed but the time is wrong and when I shut down again it starts up with no screen display and shuts down in 5 secs and follow the same process.
I have updated my bios to v7.3 since I did read through the forum and saw that there were other people that had almost the same problem like me, but I did it through Windows Live Update, and now everytime I do a bios update through live update it says that there is a newer version available (7.30), but I allready flashed it before with the same version it found on the update.
is there any settings that would help to stable my system with my current components or is something else the matter?
I have tried changing settings myself in the bios but everytime I do change something it does not work at all or the cpu runs at half speed in windows (1.58GHz)
    Thanks in advance

  • MSI X48C Platinum Windows boot problem

    Hi,
I tested the MSI X48c Platinum motherboard with windows xp Pro 64 bit, Windows 7 RC1 and Windows 7 Retail, all of them share the same problem so it has to be caused by hardware.
When I boot up at the logo of windows it freezes, when I reboot and chose to start the operating system normally it runs through. This freezing up seems to be random, sometimes when I power my machine it runs through it with no problem.

    For testing only:
    - use only one memory stick and one DDR2 Switch Card
    - reduce the memory frequency to DDR2-667 in BIOS Setup and set the Memory Voltage to 1.9V
    - disable Spread Spectrum
See if that changes anything.  If it does, we have reasons to look for a memory problem
I run 64 bit operating system running it with only 2gb is not a problem? (i'm testing boot so gues not?).
memory frequency , voltage and Spread Spectrum should be all set or test them individually?

What is your current BIOS Version?

I have disabled Spread Spectrum and rebooted 12 times and all went good, have to test still with complete power down and boot to see if that works

  • Memory problem on Msi x48c platinum

    Hi every body,
    I have a MSI x48c platinum mainboard,
Recently i bought a ddr3 memory module (corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) trying to upgrade my system,
after replacing old memories with new ones, system didn't boot. Even bios setting page did not apear. So i installed old rams and by decreasing Dram frequensy at 1066MHz and then replacing old and new memories i managed to boot the system up and use the new modules.
Now the question is that how i can use the maximum of ram frequency? Which setting do you recomend?
I set everything else on auto at bios settings.
If  you should know, i use an intel q9400 cpu.
Here is an image of my bios setting page where all settings are shown:

highest you will be able to use with your setup on the dimms will be 1333mhz with 2 dimms at timings of 9-9-9-24 command rate 2T at the most even if it boots at that frequency it may not be stable!
With a frequency higher than 1066 MHz system can't boot,

Try doing a full cmos clear >>Clear CMOS Guide<< after installing the new memory in the proper channel.
By default that memory will operate at 1333 9-9-9-24 1t, see if it will boot after the cmos clear.
There have also been allot of bios updates that provided for better memory support, i suggest seeing what version you have and flashing to the newest. (with your old ram installed to ensure stability.)
I updated bios to last version (7.4), clearing cmos would default setting on bios thus system can't boot again.

Also try setting memory voltage to 1.65v and see if that works.
Have been trying memory voltage up to 1.83v, but it didn't work with memory frequency higher than 1066...

  • MSI x48c PLatinum and Intel E8600 Problem

    Hello, I'm from Greece
    My computer Setup is:
Mobo: MSI X48C Platinum (bios version 7.0)
CPU: INTEL CORE 2 DUO E8600
    PSU: HEROLCHI 525 Watt
    RAM: OCZ OCZ3SOE10664GK DDR3 4GB (2x2GB)
    VGA: Albatron 8800 GTS
    HDD: WD 300GB SATA
    The problem is:
I bought them yesterday because i want to upgrade my system.
I connect them all properly in my case and after i turn the PC on it freeze in the MSI logo screen and cant even enter BIOS Setup.
The first time i turned the power on a message like: "Your previous overclockinn atempt was not succssefull. Press a button except del to load defaults and continue." i do what it said and freeze after that message.
This just the first time, the other times it just freeze on the logo screen. Some times it beeps one time and reset by his own and sometimes beeps four times and then reset. The most of the times it just freezes in the logo screen.
I took everything off and reinstall them. Nothing Happen.
I tried with one dimm of RAM each time in deferent positions. Nothing Happen.
I did o clear CMOS from the back button. Nothing Happen.
I perform a clear CMOS with the old method (unplug power, remove battery, wait for a couple o minutes). Nothing Happens.
I believe the problem is with the bios version i have and the CPU compatibility. I look at www.msi.com.tw and it said that this board its compatible with the INTEL E8600 but only at the 7.2 version.
How will i update my bios if my computer doesnt even enter bios setup?
Please help me. any suggestion. I'm losing my mind here!
    Thanks you in advance.

the only thing i can suggest is to drop in a 7.0 compatible CPU (if you can) and flash the BIOS to 7.2 that way then switch back in your new CPU.  A painful process, I know ...  Alternatively, if your retailer is friendly they might set it up on a test bench for you and flash it.
    Andrew
Like Andrew mentioned, this is the only way out though it is a long painful process.
The other is to get a board that is compatible to the E8600 right out of the box.
