Problem running Tech Communication suite on 64-bit, Vista machine?
I recently upgraded to Vista 64 bit system. I had problems installing Tech Communciation suite 1.0, which was running fine on 32-bit, XP machine.
With great difficulty, I was finally able to install but now I am having problems in creating pdfs from Framemaker. Has anyone experienced this problem too?
My colleague who is running Tech Suite 1.0 on 64-bit XP machine is having problem opening Robohelp 7 HTML. The RH Software Setup screen appears and asks for serial number of this product. When she enters the serial number, it does not recognize it.
Please help?
Thanks,
Shoba
Adobe does not officially support TCS 1 or 2 on the 64 bit platform.
There have been some posts about this so it might be worth searching previous posts.

Captivate 5.5 not bundled with Tech Communications Suite 3.0
I just purchased the Tech Communications Suite and assumed I was getting the latest version of Captivate which is 5.5. Unfortunately that is not the case. Since I've been getting some strange behavior I thought I would just check to see if there is any way to get the most up-to-date version of Captivate. Adobe Virtual Chat tells me it's "not possible" but I don't like that answer. I just feel if Captivate 5.5 is out there and I just bought the Suite 4 weeks ago, it should be a part of the bundle.
Any solution?
Thanks in advance as always!Welcome to our community
I think I'd first try ensuring your browsers have the latest Flash Player/Plug-In installed.
If that fails, try disconnecting any network cables.
Lastly, try temporarily disabling your Anti-virus software. You may need to add Captivate as an exclusion if disabling the Anti-virus helps.

Downloading 32 bit xp on a 64 bit vista machine
Looking for direction regarding downloading a version suitable for xp sp2 (32 bit) on a 64 bit vista machine (xp machine is at the office, and itunes downloads are blocked) vista 64 bit is the default, which is fine for the home machine, but not for the office. in the past i've been able to fish around and find the appropriate version, but not so much this time.
i hate to be a "me too" but i am also looking for direction. did you find out?
Just remember... apple is easy. Isn't that what they say? -
Captivate latest version in Tech Communication Suite
Hello,
I have installed Adobe Technical Communication Suite very recently and the Captivate version after an update is 5.0.2. However, I have seen that the latest version available is 5.5. Does anybody know why Adobe Technical Communication Suite does not include the latest Captivate version available? Can I upgrade to that version?
The 5.0.2 version just won't record correctly on my Windows 7 system. I tried the "run in administration mode" workaround, but it still does not work. That is why I would like to upgrade and see if this issue has been solved in 5.5 version.
RegardsThanks for your reply.
Yes, the version is the latest, the one you mentioned, with al patches installed. My screen resolution is 1900x1200, which is the recommended resolution for the laptop I am using, according to Windows 7. The hardware I am using should be enough in terms of processor and RAM: Intel core duo at 2.54 GHz. 4 GB RAM. However, I did notice that dedicated video memory is just 64 MB, but total available graphics memory is 1575 MB.
The sreen area recorded is 640x480. Apparently, it always records the area above the upper red line of the square. It never actually records inside the screen recording area but above it, and consequently the mouse movements are wrong and so are mouse clicks because it all happens above that red line.
Yes, higlight boxes are misplaced. They also appear above the recording area I specified (above the upper red line of the square). I do not use spanning and the browser zoom is set at 100%.
I tried creating a new porject lowering the screen resolution of my PC to 1600 x1200 but it still does not work. I don't know it will have something to do with resolution. -
Hi, is anybody having trouble getting the TOC to behave after
importing a Framemaker Book file? I keep getting a long, long list
of topics and can't find a way to marshal them into books and
sub-books so that the Help looks half-way professional and is easy
to use. I think I see a way to do it manually but that's not ideal.
The old Robohelp for Framemaker seemed to handle this okay.
Thanks.Hi, thanks
I'm aware of this and it worked fine in Robohelp for
Framemaker but version 7 HTML isn't producing acceptable TOCs or
Indexes from my FM TOC and IX files. Every topic, regardless of
hierarchy or heading or font size, weight, etc. is just placed in a
long flat list. I don't know if it's the styles I'm using in my
(admittedly quite complex) book templates or whether I need to do
some 'mapping' between Frame and Robohelp styles (this part of the
process in the new version confuses me and the dialogues/Help
aren't very 'helpful' and I seem to end up abolishing the styles
from the book, which I want to retain, and keeping only the
Robohelp styles, which I don't). I'm trying a very small document
as a test case now but not having much more luck. As for the
Index...that's too painful to go into at the moment.

Solved: Technical Communication Suite 2 Installer Crashes
I was repeatedly getting a crash installing Tech Comm Suite 2 in Windows XP from installation files I downloaded to my hard drive. The crash happened in the preinstallation phase, right at the beginning even before a serial number was requested.
The Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2 Installer would freeze then crash with a message, "Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2 Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I had the correct specs and resources for the installation and had turned off all the stuff I could think of. FM8 and CS3, including Acrobat 8 Pro, were installed but not running.
I found a workaround to this problem in the Adobe Knowledgebase and it works under light testing. Though, FM 9 is not outputting fonts correctly using Acrobat 9 (though Word and FM8 do not have this issue), but all seems functional.
I'm a little nervous because it does not look like the TCS 2 installer did a complete removal of Acrobat 8 when it installed Acrobat 9, but I have not yet run into a gotcha.
Here's what I found that worked to get TCS 2 installed:
1) Access the KB search http://www.adobe.com/support.
2) Search for "Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2 Installer" in the product "Technical Communication Suite" and select the "Product Support" checkbox.
3) Many results are for Vista--so Vista users presumably could run into this, too. Look for "Troubleshooting system errors and freezes (Technical Communication Suite 2 on Windows Vista) (kb408338)."
4) Pay attention and try step 4.: "4. Run Technical Communication Suite 2 while no other applications are running" as follows
To disable startup items and non Microsoft services:
1. Quit all applications.
2. Choose Start, type msconfig in the Search text box, and press Enter.
3. Write down all unselected items under the Startup and Services tabs.
4. Click the General tab, and choose Selective Startup.
5. Click the Startup tab and select Disable All.
6. Select any startup items that are essential for testing the problem. If you are unsure whether an item is essential, leave it deselected (disabled).
7. Click the Services tab, and check Hide All Microsoft Services.
8. Select Disable All then re-select any services that are essential for testing the problem. If you are unsure whether an item is essential, leave it deselected (disabled).
9. Click Apply, and restart Windows for the changes to take effect.
Note: Upon restart, you'll be notified that the System Configuration utility has made changes to the way that Windows starts up. Click OK. When the System Configuration utility appears click Cancel.
10. Right-click icons in the Notification Area and close or disable any startup items that are still active.
Then, try to re-create the problem:
* If the problem no longer occurs, one of the startup items is the cause of the problem.
* If the problem recurs, startup items are not the cause of the problem and you can re-enable them:
1. Choose Start, type msconfig in the Search text box, and press Enter.
2. Click the General tab, and choose Normal Startup.
3. Deselect any items that you wrote down in Step 3 of the previous section.
4. Click Apply, and restart Windows for the changes to take effect.
Read the options carefully - it doesn't mess with the CS3 components.
Quote: "The Adobe CS4 Clean Script is designed to not interfere with
existing Creative Suite 3 products, but it allows you to specify if
you wish to remove them as well."
For the font issue:
Check the settings in the Adobe PDF printer instance:
Printing Preferences > Paper/Quality > Advanced... button - should
have Download as Soft Font for the TrueType option enabled
Printing Preferences > Adobe PDF Settings
Do NOT have the "Rely on system font only; do NOT use document fonts"
option enabled!
Properties > General tab > Substitution table - except for Symbol and
Courier, there should be no substitutions allowed.
Also, check your Distiller options to see if the font location is
correctly specified and if the Fonts section of the joboptions in use
does not have a "Never Embed" setting for some of the fonts. -
Sync File Corruption with 64-bit Vista/iTunes
I'm getting some file corruption problems when trying to sync my new 16GB iPhone with the latest 64-bit iTunes (7.6.0.29). "yes I have the 64-bit version".
The sync seems to go correctly, but I have yet to be able to play any videos all the way through. Videos purchased from iTunes as well as self encoded files. All said files were working on my 60GB iPod Video with previous versions of iTunes on the same 64-bit Vista machine.
The videos will start playing fine, but will eventually reach a point in the file that was corrupted during transfer, the audio will drop out and the video will distort, then it exits from the video as if it reached the end of the file. No error messages or anything. If I play the file again, it will do the same thing at the exact same spot, so its a problem in the file. Now, if I remove the file and add it back, the file still has the same problem, but in a different location, which means the source is fine, but the copy to the device during the sync is the issue.
To test, I synced the exact same content from my notebook which is 32-bit XP, and zero problems. So I'm currently just using my notebook for syncing at the moment.
Anyone else with 64-bit Vista have a similar issue?Hello
I have a couple troubleshooting steps I would like you to try. I myself do not have a 64 bit Vista so I can not test this to confirm if the same issue occurs or not.
1. Attempt to Sync content using each of the USB Ports. See if all USB Ports pose the same issue with the video. Or if you found when where it does not occur.
2. Test on a new user on the Vista Machine. If possible take at least one or 2 movies and copy them onto a flash drive or something. And bring them into iTunes on a new user account. You may need to Authorize that user and De-authorize when your done. Does the same issue occur?
3. If you perform a reboot on the iPhone, Then Sync Data over. Does the same issue occur?
4. If possible could you restore the iPhone. Then Re-sync and see if same issue occurs.
5. Is this happening with all videos? or only certain ones? Does the corruption occur at the same time frame every time? If so is it the same time frame for all videos or slightly different?
6. Perform an Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes on your system, See if same issue occurs.
Let us know how it goes. -
When I bought my machine with 64 bit vista it came with both 32 and 64 bit versions of IE7 installed. Flash only worked on the 32 bit version but that was ok.
When IE7 got too far out of date to work at some sites I upgraded to IE8 for the 64 bit version. Without asking it also replaced the 32 bit version. I then noticed Flash worked fine on both. All went well until a couple of months ago when I started getting messages to upgrade to the new Flash player. I put it off for a while because I'm a strong believer in "If it isn't broke don't fix it!" When I finally gave in and installed the update I lost my ability to play Flash on my system. I tried a system restore but there was no going back.
I see that the new version doesn't work with 64 bit vista, but I had something that was working and I would like it back. There have got to be a million 64 bit vista machines out here and I can't believe we are just being written off. There is no reason I should have to upgrade to windows 7 just to get something back that I had before. Please help. Not ready for that nuclear option yet..
Where it did fix some files I did a restart and tried u-tube again. Still no flash.
Shut everything down and tried a system restore. It only offered one restore point on 1/12 so I took it. Everything seemed to go well but in the end it said it had been unsuccessful.
Whatever, the system is well behaved otherwise.
Tried running flash again and noticed at the bottom of the blank video frame
"Upgrade to Flash Player 10 for improved playback performance. Upgrade Now or More Info."
Why would it tell me to upgrade to 10 when 11 is installed? Sounds like there are still some old files there, probably in those folders I never deleted when doing the clean install.
For the hell of it I clicked "upgrade now" and let it install Flash 11 again. It also offered google chrome, which I took. When I tried to install it, it told me it was already installed and opened a IE8 window. Tried u-tube and got the same no go. Is there something different I should be doing with Chrome? It sounds like it should work without IE.
Anyway, this is what I've got. What do I need for an uninstaller so I can try a clean install, deleting all the old files? -
Anyone running Communications Suite 5 on X86 hardware
Hi,
We recently installed communications Suite 5 on X86 hardware and have run into numerous bug and issues. We are wondering if there are others that have installed Comm. Suite 5 on X86 that are willing to share their experiences and possibly collaborate with us.
We've contacted support many times and on many occasions we get bug reports and patches that refer to bug fixes for Sparc Hardware but it doesn't seem that many people (including Sun support) use x86.
Any information or comments would be appreciated.
thanksHi Shane,
I appreciate the response.
We are as patched as we can. We have also been putting in binary files, IDRs and T patches as recommended by our support person(s), and many times having to back them out because the patch caused as many problems as it has fixed. The only time the system was at all stable and working to what we thought was proper was during our (as we later found out, minimal) testing. Once we actually had most of our user population using it and putting it under load we've had problem after problem. Including things such as the Calendar server crashing ever 1-2 hours, Calendar database getting corrupted and then deleted by failing hot backups/archiving, mal-formatted email message, ics* attributes being deleted for users when setting permission via outlook connector, uwc, or cal express, and numerous JavaScript errors.
Maybe the Sparc version is just as buggy but I don't think that it is a far stretch to think that completely different hardware platforms would not always have the same bugs. Especially considering that we are talking completely different architectures with different endian-ness, memory registers, etc...
I'm sure a vast majority of bugs in jsp, java, and javascript code can be seen between platforms but as noted above we have been given binaries which, maybe have the same code base but wont necessarily cause the same bugs. Maybe the bugs are there but on many occasions I have been given a bug number which I can't pull any information about (being that it is an internal bug number I suppose). So maybe the bugs are in both sparc and x86 but I have no way to know this until the official patch is release or the bug is publicly available.
I posted here, so that I could get a better idea of what others are seeing with their systems. Another reason I ask this and stated that it seemed like very few people are using comm suite 5 on x86, because from the start of our testing and throughout the last 5 months we have repeatedly asked our Sun partner, Sun support personel, Sun account managers, and anyone else involved, if they could refer us to someone that has a comm suite 5 deployment on x86 and as yet we have not gotten a single response.
With this said, I am simply stating my experiences up until now and on many occassions (of the nearly 40 cases that we have opened with support) I have repeatedly been told things like my only test platform is a sparc ultra 5, or we can't recreate your issue on a similar system (similar as in sparc and not x86 or deployed on a single host and not a DWP setup like ours). I've created test accounts for support to be able to log into our uwc so that they can see what we are seeing.
I have always thought very highly of Sun but this has been changing slowly over the last 5 months or so.
You asked for bug numbers, here are some, maybe I am wrong that they are particular to x86, maybe it is because we have a DWP setup, I've been wrong before.
6590680,6591407
Again, I do appreciate any response, and I would like to say thanks to all the support persons that we have been dealing with to get our issues resolved.
As another aside, it might be helpful to know what our setup might be like so here it is:
We have three servers 2 Sun Fire x2100's, one Sun Fire x4200, a Sun Stroragetek 6140 Disk Array and a Sun Storedge C4 Tape Library.
x2100 is used for front end calendar server, UWC, calendar express, messenger express (users don't go directly to messenger express, but we have used calendar express for some workarounds temporarily and most users don't use or know about either calendar or messenger express, they just use UWC).
x2100 for MMP and MTA, this is connected via LMTP to our backend Message store.
x4100 for Messages Store and back end Calendar Server, our x4100 also is running a Solaris Zone where we have our Directory server (this zone in on zfs as was recommended by our Sun partner, until recently, I'm told this was a bad idea)). The x4100 message store (zfs), calendar database (zfs), and mboxlist db (zfs) is stored on the 6140 disk array. The x4100 is connected to the 6140 via 2 HBA's through a Qlogic Fibre channel switch.
thanks again and sorry for the blogish style post. -
I cannot install iTunes 10.5. Problem is that there are rest of installations. I uninstalled all iTunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, Apples components, but problem goes on. I run WIN XP SP 3 32 BITS. I accept ideas to solve, thanks.
A bit of repetition, mainly for the benefit of anyone else with the same issue. In your case the "for older video cards" version might be worth a try.
When cleaning folders you need to check both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, which you may well have done but didn't mention in the detail above.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Mobile Device Support won't install normally.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Problem accessing license for Tech Comm Suite 5
hi, i purchased the technical communication suite 5 through my organisation but when I click the link to retrieve my license, i have to log in. However, when i log in I am told I am an unauthorised user?
Hi patman142,
You are unable to log in to the Adobe licensing website as your Adobe ID is not linked or added to any Deploy-to and end user ID.
Your organisation assigns specific people within to have access the license.

Application Manager fails to initialize (Technical Communication Suite 4)
I am going round and round in circles with this problem, and am unable to find any help specific to Technical Communication Suite (although I feel it's probably the same problem as reported for the Creative Suite software mentioned elsewhere).
When Application Manager launches, it finds a whole raft of updates for Tech Comm Suite 4. Then says the first thing it has to do is update itself... but this fails with an extremely unhelpful error message:
"Adobe Application Manager
Some internal error occured during installation. Error Code: U49M1P1"
I've downloaded the FrameMaker 11 patch manually, but unless I'm missing something the Captivate one just directs me to use the Application Manager!
Another suggestion is tho use Adobe Support Advisor - but it's own blurb says it relates to Tech Comm Suite 3...and I have absolutely no idea HOW I'm supposed to use it once I've switched off the automatic stuff (which says there are no problems)! And again, it directs me to customer support...
I'm using Windows 7 32-bit with 3GB of RAM; Tech Comm Suite 4.
Just in case it's relevant, had an issue installing one component of the suite as had previously (a few months ago) had a trial of the software on this machine. Took an hour of chat with someone remotely taking control to install it.
I also do have FM9 installed on this machine, and (running on a VM) Captivate 3 and FM 7.2. I'm hoping I don't have to lose all of these as I will also lose the corresponding clients!
Do I really need to uninstall all Adobe software?
AlisonDear Alison,
Apparently a network adapter named "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" is preventing Adobe Application Manager from reaching Adobe update servers.
I found a document on the internet explaining what to do:
http://dasongoh.blogspot.nl/2011/12/how-to-fix-adobe-application-manager.html
Hope it helps. -

Does anybody know how to setup step-by-step SSL and SSO on SUN's
Communications Suite? I am using [or rather testing] The following
products: Calendar Server 6, Messaging Server 6, Communications Express
6, Web Server 6.1 and Access Manager 7. All on just one machine.
I have managed to get Single Sign-On working fine with Comm Express but
I can not seem to manage to get it working with SSL. I mainly want to
run https via Comm Express to access messenger and calendar. This works
great on http.
I have also read [and read] SUN's documentation about setting up SSO
with SSL but that is a bit confusing [to say the least]. I found in the
Comm Express Admin Guide:
Messaging SSO is not supported in SSL.
Work around
To support Messaging SSO with SSL perform the following steps:
How to enable Messaging SSO with SSL
1. Configure Web Server in SSL mode.
2. Configure Communications Express for SSL port of Web Server.
3. Set uwcauth.ssl.enabled=true.
4. Set uwcauth.https.port to SSL port of Web Server.
5. Enable Messaging Server in SSL mode.
6. Set the webmail.port in uwcconfig.properties to SSL port of
Messaging Server.
7. Provide messagingsso.ims.url to Non SSL port of Messaging Server
8. Install the Certificate Management Server root Certificate Authority
(CMS root CA) on both Web Server and Messaging Server.
9. Restart Web Server.
10. Provide a value to local.webmail.sso.ims.verifyurl pointing to Non
SSL port of Messaging Server.
11. Restart Messaging Server.
The problem here is what is meant by "CMS root CA" ?? of course when
searched on Google I get the Communications Express Admin Guide lol :^)
Anyways I got a Thawte Cert for the web server, this seems to work fine
and the "uwc" login page works fine too. Now what do I do to get
messenger to work? Get another Cert?? It says "install CMS root CA on
both Web Server and Messenger" how??? maybe I need to create self
signed certificates??
I need to have calendar working too, there is a SSL setup for calendar
but will it run with SSO uwc??
I also run into the problem in the Admin Guides of using "iplanet
console" to manage certs and some other features, what is this? of
course I can't find it or SUN has changed its name [but still suggests
to use it].
Well I am a bit frustrated, maybe something I am missing or not read
correctly [my apologies]. I do not think this to be uncommon to want an
integrated mail and calendar application running SSO and SSL. So if
anybody knows an easy step-by-step setup or a link to such a thing
please let me know. I am not new to Unix nor Solaris but definitely
know little about Communications Suite [or maybe SUN has changed that
name too :^(
Thanks in Advance
-JamesThanks Jay but I think we are now digressing. I am
sorry if it sounds like I am complaining, I just want
to figure out to how to make this work. Someone must
know how to set this up step-by-step. I think I
understand the difference between SSO and SSL and
that they are not interchangeable, I want both to
work.
If I was to use only ME then I don't need SSO, I
would just use it with SSL, which I still have not
figured out how to do, because I do not know where to
find iPlanet Console???Iplanet Console may be found in your Directory SErver install. command, "startconsole:
You do not need to use Console for anything.
You can use "certutil" to manipulate certificates, should you prefer to do that.
You can use "configutil" to change config settings.
do you know where it should
be, is there a default path? Does it install with ME?It's really the Directory Server console. You have it.
Can I download it?
I also understand that the benefit of SSO is not to
have to sign on several times and that in my case we
are talking about 3 different pieces of software, CE,
ME and Calendar [plus Access Manager].
I am running my system with SSO on CE, ME and
Calendar and it works great. I wish to offer this
setup so my users can access both mail and calendar
via one web interface, just like hotmail, yahoo etc.
I also want remote users to access the same web
b interface via SSL [their passwds will have some
level of security]. As usual, you need to take these one step at a time. First, get your SSL working. Then get CE working. Then follow the documentation to get SSO working. It does work. Many others have been successful getting it all to work.
The reason I asked about possibly another SUN product
is because I have setup other products like IMP and
Zimbra via SSL and they work in this fashion.
I am fairly sure this is possible with these SUN
products but I am still trying to figure out how to
do it.
This is why I am asking if anybody has any experience
setting up this combination of products in this
fashion, please let me know or guide me in the right
direction.
Thanks in advance

Will Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 run on a 64 bit (Vista, Windows 7) OS?
I have been using my Premiere Pro 2.0 application on a Wndows XP machine for the past couple of years. ERROR: DW050: - Adobe Content Viewer: Install failed1Gb RAM is woefully low. 2Gb is the sensible minimum for basic taskings such as MS Office / Open / LibreOffice, web browsing and emailing. 4Gb+ is what you should be aiming for. So Mylenium is quite right in what he says. What could make things even worse is that your 1Gb could be shared by your PC's graphics chip as well making things even worse.
