Problem saving a pdf in illustrator

When I save a pdf file in Illustrator I get a sign saying "This file has no program associated to perform this action. Install the appropriate program or, if you already have it installed, create an association in the Control Panel Programs defaults ", how I fix this?

the error message you get tells you exactly what to do...

  • Intermittent problem saving a pdf form

I have created a 17 page PDF form in LiveCycle Es with many dynamic features, such as adding or subtracting more lines to a table.  The whole document is about 700KB ( 800 after being partially filled in) in size.  I put fillable password protection on it and ran it thru Adobe Extension, checking Basic Fill-in and Final.
Most users are happy with it except two people are having problems saving it to their computer.  Both downloaded it from Firefox to their computers, then opened it and began typing.  Sometimes they are able to save their work and other times not.  One was able to do a Save As and rename it, but that didn't even work for the other.  One was getting an error message saying to the effect that the volume for the file was externally altered and cannot be saved.
They are both using Reader 8 or 9 and one has Vista while the other has XP.  I have downloaded the form at work and at home and cannot duplicate their problem so I suspect the problem is at their end.
Any ideas of what could be causing this?

I think have a similar question as you answered here.  But I want to just make sure I am understanding your response.
I have created a PDF form in LiveCycle and saved it as an Adobe Static PDF form.  When I supply this form to my users.  The only way they can fill it out and save it is they must have Adode ACROBAT.   The free Adobe Reader will not allow a user to fill out the form and then save it electronically.    They can only fill out the form in Reader and then print it out. Is this correct?
So any one I want to fill out the form and save it electronically will need to have Adobe Acrobat and at least the Standard addition...which costs money.

  • Illustrator CS3 - problems saving as pdf  (or pdf-compatible)

    Hi,
My office are trialling Illustrator CS3 as we're getting some business card type work and we'd like to be able to send the proposed designs to the client as a multi-page PDF.
Unfortunately, I'm having a terrible problem when saving a particular file i) as .ai format, if PDF compatibility is checked, &
    ii) as a PDF.
In both cases the progress bar goes half way and then Illustrator hangs, eventually saving after 3 hours, at the last try!
The multi-page document consists of 7 x A4 tiles, I know this sounds big but actually there's not that much stuff in it: on each page there's a bit of text, a gradient, 3 monochrome logos and two drop-shadows. There is also a spot colour and a linked image (500kb). If/when it eventually saves the pdf is <150kb and the .ai is <2mb.
I've tested various options when saving to try to trace the problem and it ONLY hangs when PDFing is involved; it saves with compression really fast.
Obviously the time it's taking isn't practical so I'm hoping someone can suggest what might be wrong. The PC is a decent spec: WINXP sp2 / 3GHz P4 / 1mb ram / 256mb gfx / 1.5Gb swapfile / 5gb defragged space on HD. I've looked at the Windows Task Manager as Illustrator is trying to save - the CPU is only up to 50% and the swapfile usage is 300mb - if it's taking so long why isn't it maxed out?
Hope someone can help, thanks in advance.

I can't save a 1.4 meg .ai file as .pdf. Program freezes.

  • Adobe Reader XI and Firefox 17.0.1 problems saving multiple PDFs

    Hello,
I am running Adobe Reader XI (the most recent version as of my writing this), Firefox 17.0.1, and Windows 7 SP1.  I am trying to save multiple PDFs but I am only able to save one at a time before having to restart firefox.  Here is the chain of events:
I open a PDF in a new browser window
I click "Save" on the toolbar
I select the location and save my new PDF
I close the window and return to open an additional PDF
The PDF opens in a new window
I click the save button (see step 2)
The button is present and animates when I click
Nothing else happens (i.e., no prompt to select the save file location)
    I get upset
    I restart firefox
Repeat steps 1-10 for additional PDFs
I have a whole bunch of class lectures in PDF that I would like to save so I can study offline.  Please Help!
    Thanks,
    T

I just tried this (Reader XI & Firefox 17.0.1), opening PDFs
in the same tab as the link
    in a new tab
    in a new window
all had no problem with saving; the explorer windows opened each time in My Documents folder.  I do not know why this does not work for you.
Suggestion: if you have links to these online PDFs, right-click on the link, then select 'Save link as...'; that is anyway quicker than opening and saving the files.

  • Problem saving PSD file in Illustrator

I have several files that I created in PSCS3. They are all simple, with two or three flat colors, one color per layer, no effects, shadows, etc. My client is having these printed in China using a type of silk screening process on mug-like items. The printer in China has asked me to resend the files in Illustrator. I am not familiar with Illustrator, but do own a copy of CS3, so I opened my PS file, dragged it to the AI icon and saved it as a layered AI file. The problem is that when I print it out on my Epson printer the AI file looks a little more fuzzy around the edges than the PS file. I checked Document Raster Effects setting in AI (a warning said it was at 72 dpi) and changed it to 300 dpi. That helped a little. But, there still is a small difference so I am wondering if there is anything else I can do to make the objects appear as smooth in AI as they are in PS. I am a little out of my depth here so I hope someone can help. Thanks so much!

I received this response from the Illustrator forum:
"Unless you properly vectorize everything, there is no point in just embedding the PSDs in AI. Since you speak of "simple, with two or three flat colors", I'm afraid you started off on the completely wrong foot by doing it in PS in the first place. This screams "it needs to be vector" all over the place, the reason being that for silk screen you create a sieve mask for each color and for maximum sharpness of these masks, vectors work better. It's not an ultimate requirement, though, but based on that info, as a minor you must familiarize yourself with how to create spot color separations using multichannel/duoton/tritone documents in Photoshop. It may still cause fuzzy edges, but at least you should get clean colors. Otherwise you need to learn AI and re-draw all elements there, assigning proper color swatches which then could be used to create proper separations..."
I would appreciate being directed to a good tutorial on how to create the spot color separations in Photoshop spoken of here-is there one anyone recommends? Thanks!

  • Problems saving as PDF

Using the standard "save as pdf" option that is part of the OS X system, I can produce a pdf file, but none of the web links on the page will be active. I've tried it in both Word and in my web browser, and neither will make a pdf with active links. This is a new problem, as I have been able to turn Word documents with links in it into pdf files that have the same active web links. Any thoughts or ideas?

I just did it with a TextEdit document, but I'm running Snow Leopard and don't have access to my G4 at the moment, but that should also work in Leopard. The links are hot. I even copied the TextEdit doc into Word '04 and saved it as a PDF via the print menu and those links are still hot. Can't tell you why it's not working for you. Create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists.

  • Problem saving as PDF from MS Publisher

    Window's 7 (ver 6.1)
    MS Publisher 2007 (SP2)
I have a postcard document that I'm trying to save as a PDF. The document saved fine but I had to change the size slightly (increased the custom size from 4 x 6 to 4.25 x 6.25). Now, instead of the full document, here is what I get (about 1/2 missing):
Sending to my printer works fine, saving as JPEG or PNG works fine...it's just the PDF that drops the image off the page. Help?!?
    Thanks.

I would look to create an output paper size that is fixed (e.g. A3) and see if the contents fits better this way?
    All the best,
    Jon

  • Has anyone experienced problems saving downloaded pdf files in Yosemite?

In Mavericks, I could choose the pdf file destination folder using the save dialog box's "search" entry to select the folder to save a file in. Now the search feature seems to have been disabled. Yosemite appears to have implemented a new method to choose a destination folder. It sometimes allows me to navigate to a parent folder and get a list of sub folders that I can scroll through to choose the desired one. Problem is that the feature seems to be unstable - I can't reliably get this feature to work and wonder if I can downgrade to Mavericks.

  • Problem saving annotated PDF files with windows reader app

It has happened to more than one of my files. After I read it, and jotted some notes on it, when I was trying to save, it tells me I couldn't. At first, l thought it was a problem of my file. However, it has happened to every file I tried. When I opened
the file with another PDF app, it opens and saves fine.
Is there anything I am missing that causes the problem?

    Hi,
I just made a test using Windows Reader, it works fine without problem. For your problem, I doubt there is a problem with this app and you can try to reinstall this Reader app trough Windows Store.
On the other hand, you can access to the link below to download the pdf file to make a test. I already made a test using this pdf file on my system, Windows 8.1 Pro. Reader app works fine:

  • Problem saving to pdf in print mode.

    Greetings.
I am switching to Firefox to avoid frequent Safari crashes. However, when I attempt to save to a pdf from a web page, using the "Print" function, characters in the font in the web page are replaced in the pdf.
For example, the word "protege" appears in the pdf as "protégÃ&copy".
The problem doesn't occur when I save as pdf from the same page in Safari - just with Firefox
Font preferences in Firefox are as follows:
    Fonts for: Western
    Proportional: Serif
    Serif: Times
    Sans Serif: Helvetica
    Monospace: Courier
    In Safari:
    Standard Font: Times
    Fixed Width Font: Courier
I'll bet this is a simple fix. I'd appreciate knowing how.
    Thanks.

Bob it would be through the printer driver options. When you chose to create a PDF using Adobe PDF driver, you need to go to 'PDF options' and pick the one that would allow font embedding. ie: 'press quality' forces font embedding if the font allows it to. I prefer to make my own 'setting' in Acrobat Distiller, but if you don't have Distiller, you can chose one of the preset ones.
Some fonts are write protected and will not allow embedding, but most will. You can even get around that by writing a PDF 1.3 version of the file, but pdf 1.3 doesn't support a lot of what the current PDF 1.6 does - Transparancies etc.
You need to create your Distiller Settings before trying to save your file obviously.

  • Problems saving to pdf files with adobe acrobat on imac

I have just installed and activated Adobe Acrobat 9.0 on my new iMac OS X 10.8.2, but it keeps coming up with an error message when trying to save a powerpoint presentation to a pdf file. I have downloaded all updates, painfully, one by one, from 9.1 to 9.5.3, but still to no avail. Any suggestions to get Acrobat up and running. Unfortunately, customer support from Adobe a big fat zero.

Are you trying to view PDF forms?  If so then you may want to use Adobe Reader.  You can find the download for Adobe Reader at http://get.adobe.com/reader/.

  • Problem saving a PDF file

I am able to open a PDF file but I cannot save it. The file was stored elsewhere on line.  Does anyone know how to save it to my ipad?

Your question would be easier to answer if it contained more detail, but let me guess that you're really asking: "How do I get a PDF file that lives online to my mobile device so that I can open it in Adobe Reader?"
If that's the question, then you can do a number of things:
Save the file to your desktop and sync it to your device via iTunes.
Save the file to your desktop, create an Acrobat.com account, upload  the file, and sync it through Reader on your device.
Email it to yourself and tap the "Send to" icon to open it in Reader.
    There are many options.
    HTH.
