Problem saving back to Final Cut Pro

I'm sending clips from Final Cut to Soundrack, editing them, saving the changes in STP. But the changes are not reflected in the FCP clips. I re-save in STP, and FCP gives me a signal that media is missing. When I reconnect to the saved STP file, the clip's in and out points are misaligned in FCP. Just in case you are wondering: I've left both programs open for the procedure, they're stored in the same directory, and the sample rate for both is set to 48000 hz. Can anyone help?

sounds like your settings in motion are incorrect re frame size.
if I were using motion to do things I would view "fields" and use field rendering of any project then import the rendered quicktime out of motion and drop that in my FCP sequence. If changes are needed i reopen motion fix the offending parts and output again. FCP renders frames and sometimes panning and zooming can stutter when frame rendered.

  • What is the proper way to back up Final Cut Pro x

What is the proper way to back up Final Cut Pro x?
Final Cut Pro X & Motion 5 are the only two programs I do not have a hard copy for.
Click and dragging the files from the applications folder to an external harddrive seems to simple to be correct.
Are their additional folders or actions that are required to back up these software?
I'm having problems and was instructed to back up all files ASAP before taking my iMac (mid 2010) to the Apple store for treatment.
    Please help!

Most apps from the Mac App Store are simple drag & drop installation. DId FCPX or M5 just download to your Mac or was there an installer app involved? If they just donwloaded, then dragging them to backup media should be enough. If there was an installer, then you should backup the installer. But these apps aren't going to disappear from the Mac App Store in the short time that your Mac is in a repair shop. You can also download them again fromthe Purchased pane after you have signed into your account.

Make sure your easy setup has the correct frame rate for your sequence.  Seems crazy but somehow or other fcp assigns a frame rate to audio files.   I've found this can sometimes be tricky to get right.  Here's what I've done to force the issue.  Make sure the easy setup frame rate reflects that of the target sequence in fcp.  Create a new project.  import the audio in the new project.  And then copy the clip from the new project to your main project.
    Good luck

  • DVD back to Final Cut Pro

So basically we have made a DVD movie and would like to convert it back into Final Cut Pro for later editing at times. Is this possible and if so how is it done? Would you use a program like Popcorn, DVD Shrink etc. to rip the DVD and then import some type of file back into FCP? Thanks in advance.

  • Sending Audio Files back to Final Cut pro, nothing.

    Simple issue:
I send from Final Cut Pro To Sound track pro some audio files along with the clip.
I edit it in Sound track Pro, and save (just like in the tutorial) then I quit.
I go back to Final Cut Pro and what do you know, the file that I sent HAS NOT BEEN EDITED!
    Some one help.

I tried the same thing earlier in the year, and when the sound came back into FCP, it was corrupted!
Since then, I don't know if this is a good option, but it seems to work fine:
Once I have finished my editing in FCP, I export the soundtrack into an AIFF. I edit the AIFF via STP, and when finished, import it back into FCP.
I'm not experienced enough to know if this method is bad, but it has worked well for me!

  • Sync problem w/ DVD from Final Cut Pro X

My project is a 2-hour play.  I improved the audio in ProTools then dragged it back into FCP.  I was able to get the improved audio to sync perfectly with the video (both are 48K), then mute the original audio.  I checked the whole 2-hour play for sync.  I burned a DVD, played it on my DVD player, and the audio gets ahead of the video around the 30 minute mark and keeps drifting.  Several DVD burns yield the same problem.  Any advice?

Thanks Russ.  OK, I am now rendering again via Compressor 4, this time I have 2 files in one tab - 1) a MPEG-2 and 2) an AC3 file.  Seems to make sense.
To burn the DVD immediately after, I added a 'Job Action' to 'Create DVD' after the render, and the dialog confuses me.  No problems with the 'Job Action' tab, but the "A/V Attributes" tab indicates the follwing:
Type:  Final Cut Pro.app  (shouldn't this be a reference to the rendered file/s?)
Video - showing the same dimensions of my FCPx Project file (NTSC  ..640 x 480)  instead of the MPEG-2 (Pal ...720 x 576).
Audio - Properties show Linear PCM... 6 channels, etc... not the AC3 file.
My question is, how do I create a DVD from the newly rendered files output from Compressor - is the Job Action the way to do it, and if so, how do I get it to reference the new files?
    Thanks,
    Geoff

  • Problem when HD movie (Final Cut Pro edited) viewed at smaller sizes on youtube

Does anyone else get occasional lines during motion (not interlacing) and motion jerks with their HD video when it is viewed in anything other than Full Size HD?
I am having this problem and it's driving me crazy trying to figure out where the problem is. Original footage was shot on an HD JVC Camera 1920 x 1080/50p AVCHD. Final Cut Pro converts it to 29.97 Apple ProRes 422 with Field Dominance: Upper (Odd).
Please refer to the attached file to see the compression settings I used in MPEG Streamclip. I found that I saw a lot of jumpyness before seting the data rate at 15000 kbps. There is still slight "lag" on panning shots, but watching the converted file on my computer and in Full HD on youtube (at full size) it is acceptable.
Is this a problem with youtube or with my conversion process? I have heard that AVCHD cameras have caused similar problems for others. Has anyone found a solution?
    Thanks,
    Spark

Here's an example of a file (.MTS) converted to H264 for youtube then uploaded with horrible panning problems:
    http://youtu.be/hD8UnT_fv1s
And here's the piece I made which works perfectly fine when fully loaded and played full size in HD mode, but has glitches at any other size/ quality when played:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VHByjcs-n8&list=UUSCZm618F5deYQzcZLiw-vg&index=1 &feature=plcp
At around 0.51m, 1.20m and 2.08m motion lines/ glitches are most noticeable. Seems to happen mostly during panning/ movement shots.

  • Error sending multi-track project back to Final Cut Pro, can't open XML

I am an experienced Final Cut Pro user but just tried using Soundtrack Pro for the first time on a real project. I sent the audio from my Final Cut sequence to a Soundtrack Pro multi-track project, added a few effects and created some fade-ins and fade-outs, and then tried to Export back to Final Cut.
I selected "File > Export", named my file and selected "After Export > Send files to Final Cut Pro sequence."
Now in Final Cut an error appears that says "The document “Name.xml” could not be opened. Final Cut Pro cannot open files in the “Final Cut Pro XML File” format."
Am I crazy or is something wrong happening here? I can get the exported audio files to appear in my sequence if I select "File > Import > XML" in Final Cut, but after this whole process Final Cut seems to be functioning unreliably (after closing Final Cut and re-opening, I even once got a similar error that said "Final Cut cannot open files in the Final Cut Pro Project File format", which is obviously crazy).
Am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Input problem w/ USB to Final Cut Pro?

I have a Canon Vixia HF S30 which uses flash memory. The only outputs I have on the camera are HDMI and USB 2.0. My computer recognizes the camera as a flash drive but Final Cut Pro 7 will not. I have tried tinkering with a number of settings in the Log and Transfer window with no success. I am guessing that there must be an issue of Final Cut Pro not located the camera because it is connected to the USB drive and not the firewire. I have tried to find a setting under Audio/Video for a non-firewire connection, but have found none. I am confident that it can work with Final Cut Pro because it had in the past before I had to reformat and reinstall Final Cut Pro. I just can't remember the correct settings to import the video. Please help!

Log and Transfer works with both USB and FireWire -the majority of tapeless cameras connect via USB but you could jst as easily use a Disk Image of that cameras card located on a FW drive.
There are two things that cause problems -the directory structure of a card not being intact is one.
There are also multiple video file types, not all of which are compatible because various manufacturers add their own tweaks to the AVCHD format.
Some manufacturers provide a plug in for their camera so that it works in FCP.
If Canon don't provide one for that camera you can use MPEG Streamclip (free) to transcode the files to ProRes LT or ClipWrap ($50).

  • Downgrading from final cut hd back to final cut pro 4

I recently upgraded to final cut hd but decided i would rather stick with what i am used to with final cut pro 4.0. is there any way to go back to the original software?

Why are you doing this? What is different in FCP HD that 4.0 had? FCP HD is FAR more stable than 4.0...
What you will need to do is throw away everything final cut pro on your HD, the program and application support files and preferences, then reinstall 4.0.
I still find it odd to do this...

  • Backing up Final Cut Pro projects

I would like to save projects on a portable source such as a DVD. I would like to use the same video on several different work stations. Every way I try seems to save just a "link" to the video stored on my computer, so when I try and load it on another computer it shows the video clips as "offline".
How can I save the actual video clips on a DVD that I can use in Final Cut Pro on another computer?
    Thanks for your help

Just to make sure, please don't hit me if you already know this, but...
The Final Cut project files are just "organization and direction" files. They are files that simply contain directions and 'pointers' to the actual video clips saved on your hard drive. They tell Final cut to "use just this section" of the actual captured clip on your hard drive.
The actual captured clips might be stored on your main hard drive in the following folder(s):
documents\Final Cut Pro Documents\Capture Scratch\ (Your project filename folders here)
Again, you can smack me if I'm not getting the gist of your question, but the key would be moving your actual captured clips to an external firewire drive (as the others have suggested) and then moving that to the other machine ALONG with your project files.
    that make sense?

  • Backing up Final Cut Pro

I am using the built-in backup to my 2Tb Time Machine but have noticed that whenever I do some editing in Final Cut Pro, even just one cut or two, the entire project appears to be backed up the next time a scheduled backup starts (12 gigs on the one I am working on at present). Although I have plenty of space on the Time Machine, the backups take some time - in fact it seems that backing up is almost constant now. Is this correct? I don't want to exclude Final Cut Pro backups as I may forget to reinstate them.

I use Shirt Pocket's Super Duper to clone my working external disk to my backup disk - making sure the backup disk is offline when I start FCP X(otherwise it gets confused). This works extremely well.
SuperDuper has a 'Smart Update' feature which (when enabled) only updates files which have changed or which are new to the backup drive. Using Smart Update, the backup usually takes about two minutes per day, rather than the hours it would otherwise take.
Your backup drive must be formatted OS Extended (either journaled or not).
If I ever need the backup, I will simply rename the backup disk to be the same as the working disk so that FCP X will recongnise it.
