Problem saving files to network

We are working with files off of a network, the file server is running OS9.2. I am running OSX on my G5.
We seem to have isolated the problem to photoshop.
When we are working on a file in Photoshop off of the server, and we go to save the file, the program crashes after saving.
I tested the issue when files are on my G5 and there is no problem.
We have tested the server for any issues and found nothing.
This problem came out of nowhere about two weeks ago.
What Ive done up to this point:
-I've tested my G5 from the Disk Utility on the OSX DVD
and found no issues.
-Unistalled and reinstalled Adobe CS2 Suite.
-Trashed all pertinent preference files.
Any ideas?

Sounds like the bug in AppleTalk in 10.4.6. The basic solution is to downgrade the AppleTalk back to 10.4.5. You can find instructions by doing a search on the discussion boards for Photoshop.

  • Problems saving files to network with Adobe CC on Mac OS Yosemite

    Hi there
I have just made the change up to Adobe CC on my four Mac computers.
This consists of three Mac Minis (new) running OS X 10.10 Yosemite (as installed by Apple) and an iMac running OS X 10.10 Yosemite (upgraded from 10.6 Snow Leopard).
The problem we have is on the Mac Mini's, when I am working within InDesign, if I create a new file and then try to save it, it will only save to either the local Mac hard drive or the Creative Cloud. Any attempts to save this file to a local network Mac or Windows server results in an error regards permissions (Error code 1).
If I save this file to the desktop of the Mac and close the file, I can then drag and drop it into the network location with no problems, thus the permissions are correct on the servers and the issue is coming from InDesign.
But the iMac which has had it's OS X upgraded, this allows the saving of files to any of the locations with no problems.
If an InDesign file is stored in any of the locations and I attempt to open the file, any stored on the local network servers will error on the Mac Mini's, but will open on the iMac.
Has anyone seen this sort of behaviour at all and have a possible way to resolve this?
At current all work is stored locally and moved into position, or copied off of the server, worked on and then moved back. This is not an acceptable way to work permanently.
    Thanks,
    Rabidengineer.

Having same issue. Using Indesign CC 2014.2 update, OS X 10.10.3 and any server using a smb, afp, or cifs connection.

  • Problem Saving Files CS5

After years of no problems I am suddenly having a problem saving files.  This started with CS4 a few months ago, and has continued with CS5.
When I attempt to Save As... I get an error message:
Could not save as "{location & filename}" because the file is already in use or was left open by another application.
The only place the file could be considered "in use" or "left open" would be due to Bridge.
I get this error message whether saving as jpg, psd or any other file type.  If I retry saving the file then it will usually save properly after several attempts.  But if I close Bridge then it will save the first time every time.  I get the same error whether saving as the original file name or with a new name.
I have been using Bridge to preview and select the images I want to edit for a very long time.  But this problem didn't start showing up until a short time ago, so I wonder about a problem introduced with an update??    Those who use Bridge know that it remains running in the background while the image is processed through Camera RAW and PS.  There has never been a reason to close Bridge when working in PS and it is not very convenient to do so just to save a file.
If anyone has a solution to this I would like to hear about it.
    Thanks,

    Hi Jimcarke,
My problem is very similar. Just Upgraded to CS5 from CS4.
Graphic files, no problem.  I can save 80Mb and 30 layered mixed graphic files, even after editing.
No JPEG's in the stack though. Perhaps I'll have a look at that!
With simple JPEG's at 1.9mb, after editing, then as soon as I enter 'Save As,' Bingo the great blank screen'
Problem seems worse if I get as far as rotating the image, then everything disappears instantly.
Customer services have suggested all the usual remedies and now I can't open a file or edit anything
I'm back to the insufficient RAM issue.
I've just 'given up' and back to CS4 again and will try to get some work done for the morning.
All good fun and an interesting way to spend a very sunny Sunday afternoon. (GB)
    Regards
    John

  • Problems saving Files on Lion-Server

My colleagues frequently report problems saving files stored on our Lion-Server machine. This usually applies to Photoshop CS6 documents but has been reported fpr MS Word .docx-Files as well. Usually the problem can be circumvented by savin the files in question  on the local machine and later copy them back to the server.
Unfortunately the errors happen at random times where I usually have no access to either the cient computer or the server so I have no clue of wht is going wrong.
The Server-Logs, especially the AppleFileServer Logs don't show any information related to anx client side error message.
The only thing I see are entries in /var/log/system.log reading something like
    "Jul  9 15:36:14 servername AppleFileServer[1368]: MDSChannelPeerCreate: (os/kern) invalid argument"
I'm not sure, if these messages are related to the failure of saving files, but they are the only clue I have so far.
Has anyone experienced similar problems or better has a solution to avoid thes errors entirely?

  • Saving file to network location

    Hello all of you,
I encounter an issue with InDesign CS5 when it comes to opening and saving files to a network location. I added my company's ftp server to Windows 7 and it appears correctly in the My computer overview (there's an additional line besides the hard discs, DVD player, et cetera). The connection to the server functions fine, no issues here. No problem exists when opening files from this server from within InDesign; I can do whatever I want. Only when I try to save a file the network location isn't displayed anymore within the My computer overview in the InDesign "Save as" dialog box. The network location however appears in the pull-down menu at the top of the dialog box (and nested as part of My computer ...), but when I pick it there, it won't show the context of the server. Additionally logging onto the server (it's IP-based and anonymous logon) doesn't change a thing. Trying to save in the empty server space InDesign returns a "Can't save here" error message.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Building the document locally and then copying back to the server isn't a solution, because all external content that is linked in the document resides on the server.
    Best regards,
    Luc Peulen

Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Building the document locally and then copying back to the server isn't a solution, because all external content that is linked in the document resides on the server.
Scott is basically right. Lots of ID users work over network connections without issue, but if something is going wrong, it's the first place to look. I wouldn't have thought it possible to work in InDesign over a FTP connection!
If you can get Windows to access that server as if it were just another drive (using "Map network drive" in Explorer) then it should work normally. However, a generic Adobe phone tech wouldn't help you figure out why it wouldn't work - there are simply too many variables in a network environment for a generic first-level tech to figure out.
In the short term, the only solution I can suggest is:
Retrieve all of that external content that is linked in the document, and the InDesign document, at the same time, & store it on your local hard drive.
    Do your work.
    Save & package.
Upload the entire package back to the server.
Long-term, you'd need to talk to your own IT staff to troubleshoot the connection between your workstation and the FTP server. If you can get information about your network from them to post here, I bet that someone will make suggestions to pass on to your IT staff that will actually work.

  • Having problems saving files in CS2

I'm learning the program: Classroom in a book from InDesign CS2. In the beginning when the file was small I was having no problem saving the doc. But after The doc got bigger and I had done many things to it, I would save the doc, the save word in file was gray as it is suppose to be, then I would close the file. When I reopened the doc all my work would be gone. I have recreated this 3 times now and the same thing keeps happening, NO SAVED FILE. What am I doing wrong??? Thank you advance for your help, Sherrine

How are you opening the file (double-clicking an icon, File > Open,
File > Open Recent, etc.)? Are you saving/opening over a network? It
sounds to me like you may be opening the wrong file. Try doing some work
on the file, and then Save As to a unique name. Then use File > Open
Recent to open the file and see if your changes are there.

  • Problem saving files to PDF in Illustrator CS4 [Mac]

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem with saving files as PDF's in illustrator CS4 - something I've happily done for years until about a week ago.
It seems to be something to do with the "Save As" command. When I select Save As and then select PDF, the PDF saves as a copy of the current file rather than it saving as a file itself. It also doesn't rename itself properly. Saving a file in the .ai format seems unaffected.
The multiple page function also seems to be affected - I can create multiple pages no problem, but upon saving the PDF reads as a single page PDF in both Acrobat and Preview. Reopening the same file in Illustrator reveals that the extra pages are there, but not showing in the PDF.
Any thoughts? I've trashed preferences and repaired permissions, but no joy....
    Any help greatly appreciated

Have you entered specific artboards in "use artboards"?

  • Problems saving files in Snow Leopard

I've just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard (I know I'm a dinosaur...) and am now having major problems saving Appleworks files.
When I'm doing corrections, I sometimes need to save a file over 10 times and my helpful "Do you want to replace this file?" box has gone and instead it's saving as a new file and adding another 'full stop' at the end of the file name.  It's driving me nuts!
Is there any way to get back to just over-writing the file?
    Any help gratefully received...
    Thanks
    Take care
    Marianne

This is turning out to be really crazy. I haven't added any third party application at all.
Last night I tried Roger's 'command-S' and it worked on a different document I opened.  I tried the same document, changed it, 'Saved As' and it asked me if I wanted to over-write the file.
I then opened the original document I was having trouble with, hit 'Save As' and the same thing happened; it just made multiple copies of the file.  It seems to be a problem with this particular client and all his files; unfortunately, he's the client I do the most work for.
Now I don't know why it's happening on some documents and not on others.
Any further ideas?  Can I do something to this client's files, re-save them or whatever, so I don't have this problem?
    Thanks again...

  • Are there any problems saving files in Pages for iPad?

I have a new iPad, and I need to chose a wordprocessing App. Friends have advised me that there may be a difficulty saving files from Pages. If so then is there a recommendation for a different wordprocessing App ?

I use Pages every day on my iPad. I have had great success with it.
I use it with iCloud, and I use it on my Mac. I have created documents on the Mac, saved them to iCloud, opened them on the iPad, edited them there, saved that back to iCloud, opened them in the IOS Beta in iCloud.com, downloaded them to my Mac at work, and so on and so on...
I have used Pages every way that you can possibly use it with iCloud, iCloud.com, and locally on my Macs. No problems whatsoever.
Pages documents are saved automatically on the iPad as are all documents in all apps - at least as afar as I know. You do not have to actually save them on your own... no Save As... no Save commands at all in tha app. They are saved automatically with the last set of edits that you make in place.

  • Problem saving files across Mac network

Hi all, hoping someone has run into this and can help—
We're running into a problem working with trying to find a way to have multiple users modify the same indd file without having to change the Sharing and Permissions on an individual file basis?

Not a server per se (and maybe that's the problem), but it's just one Intel iMac running Leopard with the InDesign files on it, and one newer iMac running Snow Leopard trying to read/work with the files. The protocol is AFP. For the second user (newer Mac) it forces a "Save As" instead of "Save" and then denies permission to overwrite the original. If they save the file locally and replace the original, the same thing then happens to the first user.
We've checked permissions on the files, and everything should be accessible. I'm wondering if the differing versions of the OS might have something to do with it, though I don't know why it would. Will upgrade anyway, but in the meantime Adobe keeps saying it's a Mac issue, and Mac keeps blaming Adobe. Thanks for taking the time to respond, btw.

  • Problem Saving Files to A Sharepoint 2010 Site from Office 2010: Saves locally by default rather than to the correct sharepoint site

Hi we are starting to use sharepoint 2010 / word 2010 and have found an interesting bug/problem. Sometimes when a user tries to save a file (by clicking on the save button in the quick access toolbar for word 2010) the save dialog comes up with the
users local "Documents" folder as the path (not the correct sharepoint path where the document should be saved).  (I should say that we are creating the file from sharepoint by using a toolbar on the document library, with the new button)
We are using a content type and a template attached to the document library when we create the file.
This is really annoying because the user might not notice that the document is saving locally and not to sharepoint.  I have found a strange workaround which involves clicking the [File] tab on the ribbon in word 2010, then clicking "Save and Send"
and then clicking the save button again.  At this point word 2010 seems to "remember" that it is trying to save document to sharepoint and shows the sharepoint document library.
This is a real nuisance which could lead to documents being lost/misfiled if people don't realize that this is happening.  Can anyone help me?
    Thanks
    Kevin

Saving files to SharePoint Document Library.
    For a test try this:
    Word 2010
Disable all options in "Protected View"
(-> Word Backstage -> Options -> Trust Center -> Protected View)
Now you can create a new document in your document library. The
save dialog comes up with the correct sharepoint path.
    Hope this helps

  • Significant problem saving files in Photoshop CS2

I am running Photoshop CS2, with Windows Vista Home Edition.
My problem is a new one, as Ive been running the program the exact same way since I bought it several years ago. Two weeks ago I bought an Intuos 3 tablet, and installed the software that came with it (including Corel Painter Essentials), and updated the drivers for Vista. After doing so, the appearance of my save menu changed in photoshop, but everything still ran properly.
Yesterday when I tried to save a file that I had opened and modified (a photoshop file, not .jpg), Photoshop stopped responding. I did not receive any error message, the program simply froze, and refused to respond. I gave it more than five minutes before shutting it down. This has happened three consecutive times. I can save a new file, (using the save as function), but anytime I attempt to merely save (either using control-s, or by selecting save from the file menu) Photoshop stops responding.
I have not edited any preferences or settings.
I have lost a great deal of time and work over this, and am beyond frustrated. Any help would be very truly appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestions guys, unfortunately I'm still experiencing the same problem.
There was nothing off screen, escape did not help. I don't usually get a box when all I'm doing is saving (unlike using 'save as'). I haven't had any messages from Windows Error Reporting, and don't see anything in the System Event Log, but don't know exactly what I'm looking for as I don't access it regularly.
I've ordered the CS4 upgrade. Should arrive this week.
My new question is, should I uninstall my current configuration, install Photoshop Elements 6.0 (which came with my tablet), and upgrade that? Or should I leave it as is, and install the upgrade on my current configuration?
Will CS4 fix my problem? Or will the problem merely transfer onto it?
    Any help greatly appreciated!

  • Problems saving files

    Hi,
We run a set of PowerMac G5s and iMac G5s off a Xserve all of which are on 10.4.6.
We're experiencing alot of AFP problems as mentioned elxewhere in the forum and I've tried most of the recommended fixes with no luck.
But in the last couple of days we've noticed a certain problem which really affects people who are working on the PowerMacs and saving Quark files down to the server. What happens is it seems they save down their file normally but when someone tries to open it latter it seems to have reverted to a previous version. When I checked the AFP logs I notice they are getting -5006 errors when they try to save. I've also noticed that when I look at the connections pane in Server Admin unlike the iMacs where an IP address is given PowerMac users just have broadcasthost sat in the address field.
I don't know if that is whats causing the problem but it seems like my only clue at the moment. I've set manual ip addresses on the machines to see if that might display the IP address but with no luck. Anyone else experienced this problem and come up with a cure?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Which permissions model are you using? I've had pretty good success with QuarkXPress 6.5 and the Effective Permissions model, which incorporates ACLs. Of course, there are still periodic problems, but that should be fixed soon.
Two things to check for now, though:
    1. Have you seen my ACL Tips posting? I have several suggestions for effectively setting permissions: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1535247
    2. Are you using QuarkXPress 6.5 or 7.0? Quark only supports these two versions with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. Earlier versions of Quark 6.0 or 6.1 require the 6.5 update to be functional for Mac OS X 10.4. Any earlier versions, including Quark 4.x or 5.x which would run in the Classic Environment are simply not supported.

  • Problem saving files & file extensions

    Hi every body
WE just bought an educational licence of design standard and it been installed on our networked computers.
It seems to be working fine on my computer apart from a bug maybe with adding colours to the gradient map. but thats not why im posting.
If a pupil logs on and opens a new file does some work and then tries to save in a photoshop file format this will work the first time but on a second attempt if they save as another file with a new file name it will say there is a copy of that file when clearly ther isnt. If they say that they want to copy over the file it will save the file but photoshop will not open that file again unable to open wrong file format.
anybody have any idea why photoshop may be acting like this it seems to be a file format issue..

Do/did those machines have Photoshop 7 installed on them? If so, search
for psicon.dll and rename it to psicon.dll.old. Reboot and the problem
    should go away.

  • Problem saving files

I am using Dreamweaver 8 on Mac OSX 10.5 for an intranet
site. I deleted my site and set it up again. Now all my recent
changes have disappeared, and everytime I edit, and then try to
save a file I get this error message:
File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not
    completed
Any light folk could shed on this would be much
    appreciated.

As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems You might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized settings like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences You’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, etc.) or starting from a new User might also be beneficial.
