Problem Saving Photo Attachments to iPhoto

This may be a Mail issue but it affects the iPhoto Library. My Mother accidentally wiped out her iPhoto Library simply by saving a photo attachment to her iPhoto Library file in the Pictures folder. Now, this seemed like a logical place to which to save a picture file. What it did was overlay the iPhoto Library with the picture attachment. SHE IS DEVASTATED! There is no way I can figure out how to get her photos back. If she accidentally deleted the library file I could get it back. Any ideas?
She has a Macbook Pro and has yet to upgrade to Leopard and therefore does not have the benefit of running Time Machine.
I don't think the software should have allowed this to happen.

TJuianne,
If you're very careful (in other words, look, *but don't touch*) you can navigate to your iPhoto library in Finder. If you control-click and "Show Package Contents", you may find that the pictures are still in the library, but iPhoto has lost track of them, probably through a damaged database.

I can't figure out how to save photo attachments from email. I've searched the user's manual and various websites for the right answer to this. I've tried tapping and holding on the photo. I've tried bringing up the menu with the attachment open. None of it has worked. Can anyone help? Thank you!

I have provided some steps to assist with saving photo attachments. Hope this helps!
    1. From the home screen, select Messaging.
    2. Select a contact / mobile number.
    3. Select and hold the message.
    4. Select one of the following message options.
Depending upon message / attachment type, the available options will vary.

  • Saving email photo attachments in iPhoto

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion.  Before I upgraded, I used to open an email (that had a photo attached), Click the "Save" button, scroll down to "Add to iPhoto", and it would automatically add the photo to the iPhoto library.  I've done this for the past two years without a problem.  Now with Mountain Lion, I go through the same process but the picture isn't added to iPhoto.  Is this a Preferences thing?  What can I do so I can make this work again?

Bug. Report to Apple. IPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
For now save the the desktop and import or open with quick look, expand to full page and save to iPhoto from there

  • Saving photo attachments in mail.app

Can anyone please tell me if there is a simple way to save multiple photo attachments from several emails to one folder in one go?
I am hoping that I don't have to go to each individual email & save

Not wanting to start another topic, is anyone else having issues with the new Lion Mail?
First: is there any way to turn off the jps in the image and just send them as a file? I hate remembering to make sure the cursor is set to the best location for the inserted images
The problem I see is sending more than one file. Im not so sure the second plus file is attached.
I know for sure the image of the scond file is normally half gone.
Thanks for any insight and help.

  • Problem using photo's in iPhoto to upload to net

I just got this macbook. Brand new to Mac. I just put some pictures from my iphone into the iphoto library. So, theoretically they're on my mac and ready to be uploaded to the net. These are property pics and I'm putting them in a listing. I've never had an issue withthe pc. So, I go to my listing page and try to upload but for some reason when I go to my pictures file to upload, I can't get access to the iphoto library. I read a few posts in here and it appears I have to make a copy of the pictures before I can use them for anything...
can someone tell me why apple would make something so ridiculous?? why would I want to make a copy of something I just copied onto my computer so I can use it again. Why add a step to the process? I've found the same with PDF attachments in emails. I'll open the attachment and then I can't save it until I make a copy of it from the preview area...why the heck add the step?
So, I'm sure there are ways around this...at least I hope there are. Please let me know how I can simply connect my phone, or camera, to my computer, save the pics, and then upload them to where ever I want without the need to duplicate everything.
    Thanks

Apple didn't make anything so ridiculous. You don't have to copy the photos to use them. With the pdfs and email, jusy drag them from the email to the desktop or where ever you want them. There is no "preview area", what you're been asked to do is save the file from the server to your machine. Same as Windows, a little different workflow that's all.
As a tip: before you decide that Apple are making things ridiculous, remember you've got a  learning curve ahead of you. Just like when I sit at a Windows machine, it might help to bear in mind that if it seems overly complex or thick, then you've probably got something to learn. That works for me.
Anyway, t he first of these is what you want.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Saving photo attachments from Mail to iPhone

    Merry Christmas
The MMS debate and iPhone rages on and many iPhone fanatics say 'why do you need MMS when you can send/receive photos as email attachments...?'. If that's the case, is there any way you can save a photo received as an email attachment to the 'Photo' section of the iPhone? Is this yet another oversight from our friends in Apple or have I just not discovered how to do it? If the former, it seems the only way to keep photo attachments is to archive all emails with photo attachments - neither intuitive, functional nor an effective use of memory...or I could save emailed photos into iPhoto when next on my iMac and transfer them over to my iPhone when it's docked, but this somehow seems to underline the iPhone's lack of functionality in this area (a rarity given the rest of it is absolutely superb - aside from the MMS issue, lack of video & non-ability to forward/send multi-SMSs).
Grateful for any advice, or do just have to write some feedback to Apple and just grin and bare it?
    Cheers

Sorry to say this but yeah this one is for the feedback page, there is no way to save the photos from the Mail app to the Photo app

  • TS4435 email photo attachments and iPhoto

Why can't I import email photo attachments directly into iPhoto...the option is there, but doen't work?

    Greetings,
How were the images sent: as part of a Rich Text email, or plain text email, with an attachment? Either way, for each image, you should see a Save button, which will display an Add to iPhoto option when you click and hold.

  • TS4435 Saving photos direct to iPhoto

Okay, a more suitable resolution might be to fix this issue?

SInce the answer is in the article you posted
    Resolution
Follow these steps to import the photos into iPhoto.
    Open iPhoto.
Return to the Mail message with the photo attachment(s).
Drag and drop each photo onto the iPhoto icon on the Dock.
It still is not at all clear why you posted or what your question is - the problem and the solution are very clearly stated in TS4435

  • How do I save photo attachments to iphoto

I cannot get a photo sent to me to iphoto.  I've tried dragging, but nothing drags.  I've tried going to file\save attachments which seems to work but then the photo is no where to be found (and yes, I knew where I saved it.  I even tried saving to desktop.  no luck).  I've tried using the save drop down in the mail message details.  Doesn't work.  I'm running OS X 10.8.5  Thanks.

Have you considered posting in the iPhoto forums?

  • Problem saving photo from email in IOS 7

I recently upgraded to IOS 7. On IOS 6 I was able to click on a photo in an email and "save photo" or "set as wallpaper". How do we do that in IOS 7?
I also am having trouble resizing a photo for background/wallpaper. How do we resize them for wallpaper?

    Hello ritaright,
Photos can be saved from an email by holding your finger on the photo, then choosing Save Image.

Regarding the setting of resizing your background image, it may be desirable to enable 'Reduce Motion.'

  • IOS 7: Problem saving photos from Safari

When I choose Save Image from an image in Safari (by holding down on the photo) the photo does not save and instead a photo I took weeks ago appears in my photo album as the thumbnail and when you open the image it's blank.

    Hello again,
Thank you for your reply. Following Iphoto - preferences - advanced, I have checked the box which says "Importing - copy items to photo library". However the problem is still occuring, whether I look for the photos in the album I created for them, or in the general library. When I try to open photos from copied from this source, even though they are displayed on the general album folder, when I click on the photo to enlarge it it comes up with this error message (as before) "The volume for P00404..etc.jpg cannot be found. Insert the disk or connect to the server volume and wait for it to appear on the desktop, then try again." the photos then disappear from the screen and I am left with a black triangle with the ! mark in it.
The memory stick does NOT come up in iPhoto (as it should between the Trash can and the Albums) - but I have been able to transfer things from the desktop or emails before with clicking and dragging.... I can't quite figure out why this shouldn't work now.
When I put the memory stick in again and try to look at the same photos, it starts flashing - so it must be referencing to the memory stick at this point?
I am relatively new to Macs, so I am sorry if these questions are a bit stupid - I haven't had any trouble til now.
    Regards
    SJ

  • Can you please help solve my sudden problem saving photos in version sets?

Saving edited photos in Version Set
Ever since I have owned the excellent Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0, I have saved edited photos in a version set with the original. Now, in spite of the 'save in Version Set' box being ticked, they are saved separately. When the edited photo is saved, it says 'imported from hard disk'. It has never said this before.
When the photos are imported from the camera, they are saved in Adobe/Digital Camera Photos/code provided by photoshop (eg 2006-03-10-1632-38). Under properties/history it says imported from Panasonic DMZ-TZ3. This has not changed. All the saving arrangements appear to be unchanged.
Photos (thousands!) have been successfully edited and saved in a Version Set. Under properties/history it says 'edited version' and 'imported from Panasonic DMZ-TZ3'.
Suddenly, photos that have been edited and should have been saved in a version set, now say under properties/history nothing about being edited.  They say 'imported from hard disk'. In other words they are being treated as a new photo.
I really hope you can help me to solve this infuriating problem. Please ask if you need more information.
I work on a PC with Windows XP
    Michael

Michael: are you still using an old version o0f PSE (e.g. PSE V4)? Problems similar to the one that you described are relatively frequent in old PSE Versions ( I was suffering a lot from them)..... and there are quite seldom in newer PSE versions.  Unfortunately, I do not remember which PSE Version became much better in this area (was it V5? or V6?)
If using an older PSE version and encoutering often the problem: consider to migrate to a newer PSE Version..

  • Problems rotating photo's in iPhoto

I am trying to rotate a several pictures in iPhoto and when I do they work fine but I go back to look at them and they have all gone back to the original photo (not rotated) can anyone please help me with this?
    Thanks in advance Tracey

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.

  • Problems saving photos edited in PSE10 to Windows 8

I edit a photo using PSE10 and then save it to my picture library in Windows 8.  When I go to the picture library the thumbnail is the new (edited) photo. But when I click on the thumbnail to enlarge it to full screen, the picture is the old (unedited) photo. This was not a problem with Windows 7.  How do I correctly save edited photos?  Help.

    Jodeth,
That's great. Yup, it's those little things!
You can always do a "save as" and save to the desktop. This will not change the image within iPhoto which is sometimes a way to go if you don't want the image changed within iPhoto but want to use the edited image for something else.

  • Sending photo attachments to iphoto does not work

Whenever I get photos in an email, and I send them to iphoto via the slideshow it never works. The photo gets "sucked" to iphoto, but when I open iPhoto it is never there. I am still save the images to my desktop and having to add them to my library. Any ideas?
By the way, I'm using iPhoto 5

    donny,
A frequent issue lately, has been with leftover files from Panther, or earlier mailboxes. This problem is likely related to these leftover files:
If your mailboxes, or at least some of them, originated in Panther, I want you to read the article at the link below, and perhaps get back to me with some observations, before attempting any changes:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301315
This issue of leftover files applies not only to mailboxes you have previously created (which are in the Mailboxes folder the article mentioned) but can also apply to those mailboxes in account folders created prior to the upgrade to Tiger.
Also, please report the size of each file or folder. Do not, however, try to list the files that are within the folder named Messages, that is found in each and every mailbox. It is very important to compare the size of any file named "mbox" with that of the Messages folder. If the mbox is greater in size than the Messages folder, then not all messages have been converted to be in the Messages folder.
The path, as I am sure you know, to the Mail folder is Home/Library/Mail -- within the Mail folder are one or more account folders and the Mailboxes folder.
The files that become the most problematic, in my opinion, are any leftover index files, and might be related to this issue with iPhoto. Let me know what you find.
    Ernie
