Problem Saving Self-Contained Presentations

When I save a self-contained presentation, Keynote saves every pict, movie, sound, theme, etc. BUT I can not find the actual presentation (i.e., the file that ends with .key). Am I missing something?

The folder IS the file. If you're saving to your HD, it will be named filename.key and when you double click on it, Keynote will open. If you're saving to an external PC formatted drive or a flash drive, those don't understand the way OSX stores information and will show a folder with files inside of it.
For any .key file you've saved, your can right click or control click on the file and choose "Show Package Contents" and you'll be able to navigate inside the file to see all the parts that make up the presentation. The most important part that brings it all together is the index.xml.gz file. That tells Keynote how to display your presentation using the media included in that "folder".
Now, if you want to email this to another computer, you'll need to right click or control click on the file and choose "Create Archive of..." and then send the resulting .zip file.

  • Problems saving a self-contained movie in Quicktime Pro 7.7.5

When I tell Quicktime Pro to "save as a self-contained movie" and provide a name and location for the file, I expect it to do as instructed...but it often doesn't. Why? How to resolve this?

Sorry you can't save these settings.

  • Movies edited in QT Pro and saved as self-contained revert in iTunes

Hi all. I'm having a consistent bad experience editing QT movies in the QT Pro player. This is the typical workflow (on Mac OS X 10.5.7, lates QT update):
    1. Screencast captured in iShowU HD saved as .mov with H264 codec
    2. Edited .mov in QT Player (Pro) to trim unwanted footage and tidy dropped frames etc. This sometimes is just deleting portions of the footage, sometimes copying a selection and pasting in a new document, sometimes doing this to combine multiple selections in a new document.
    3. Save as self-contained QT .mov (every time without fail - I don't use reference movies)
These new movies look fine in QT Player, and import nicely into Keynote, and my Keynote presentations export to Quicktime movies fine.
However, when I try to export in ANY format and view in other software (including iTunes and the iPhone), either using QT presets (iphone, AVI, etc) or custom settings, or Handbrake (ffmpeg), or zamzar.com, the result is always either the full unedited footage, or something that approaches the original, but with corruption at the edit points.
The problems are occuring on both my MBP and my Mini, which have very slightly different software installed (eg Perian on the MBP but not the Mini)
What's going wrong and what can I do to put it right?
    Many thanks in advance.

I am not talking about mpeg 1 or 2. I take a 100 MB dv, mpeg4 or h.262 clip, set an in and out point, hit trim to selection and hit apple S. it QUICKLY saves the file without rewriting the data fork and keeps it at 100 MB on my disc, even though the data size is now 50 MB in QT. so, the data is not lost, it is still there on my HD, just with new tags to tell quicktime what part to use and what part to ignore . I would prefer to just keep the one 100 MB file that i could retrieve the original if i want instead of keeping that 100 MB file and choosing save as and getting a new 50 MB file, now having to store 150 MB to have the original and edited one.

  • Problem with JavaFX 8 Self-contained Application !

    Hello everybody,
I generate a JavaFX 8 Self-Contained Application for Windows (.msi).
    Eclipse 4.3.1 (Kepler)
JDK 8 B116 (EA - i don't use the lasts beta versions (B117 and B118) because there is a bug during installation for Windows XP)
    Scene builder 2.0 (EA)
When i install this application (exec .msi) on my PC (Windows XP SP3 - JDK 7 and 8 installed), no problem.
So i install this application on 2 others PC (PC without JDK 8 installed).
The first PC on Windows XP SP3 (JDK 5 and 6 installed) : display problem - the font is very big as if I had made a zoom on the contents of the window !
The second PC on Windows 7 PRO (JDK 7 installed) - when in launch the application by the system menu, i have two strange problems
1/ when i move my mouse on the content of the window, this content becomes black !
2/ it's necessary to resize the window (full screen) and to come back to the original size to obtain a correct display !
    I don't know where is the problem(s) ?
is it linked to JDK 8 (BETA version) embedded ?
If you have a idea do not hesitate !

I only use external FW HDDs for my video work; my Capture Scratch files are on external drives and I export finished movies to external drives. My project files are on my system drive, this is the best way to work, I have never had any problems I could associate with this configuration
I am assuming you've gone thru your project, your timeline and everything is kosher. Is everything fully rendered? Have you mixed down your audio? Have you tried exporting just the last 30 seconds of one of the projects to see if you can replicate the problem?

  • Saving Final Cut project as a self contained Mpeg2

I am uploading thesef inal cut projects as mpeg4 files and see a lot of degradation as the distributor puts them through the transcoder to mpeg2. Is there a way to save these as self contained (audio and video) mpeg2 file. I have tried exporting to qucktime as a self containted movie but running it through compressor ends up as a video only file.

If you're using the current version of Compressor, if you look in the video settings you'll find a checkbox that allows you to create a muxed mts file.

  • Final Cut Express wont make make a self contained movie

Until recently I have always been able to export my movies from final cut express HD without any problems. They save as final cut express movie files. Now when I come to export a movie, I click on " make self contained movie" and what I get is a quicktime movie that is split into 3 parts, one named whatever I had told it to save as and the other 2 with the same name but -av1 or -av2 after it. If either of these is deleted the original wont play but they wont open on their own. There is sufficient hard drive space and they are all saved in the same folder. There appears to be a 2GB maximum file size as the first movie is 2 GB the second is 2 GB and the third is whatever is left over. Anything smaller than 4 GB just saves as a 2GB plus whatever is lreft over! They will play if original video clips are deleted so they are independent but wont play if one of the 3 is missing. Please help this is driving me scatty

  • Files in MOV-Container missing, although MOV is self-containing

    Hello everybody,
I've got a strange problem here. We are capturing MPEG4-Files with a camera and cutting those files with quicktime pro (so that we don't have do re-encode those files in order to gain time). The files consist of a few MPEG4-Movie-Sequences (that are copy/pasted from the original files) and a small Signation-MPEG4 from the harddisk. Then the files are saved as self-contained quicktime-files and transfered to another computer.
But a few files will not contain the signation, although the moviefiles from the camera are in the container.
Is there a difference in Quicktime if a file is added by drag'n'drop, by "Insert" or "add to movie"?
I can't reproduce the problem (it comes up on a Mac and on Win with Quicktime 7.1.3) and it scares me
Thank you very much, i would appreciate your help.

Could it be a solution that the file is - during editing the video - "Saved As" a self containing movie... But afterwards, when the last file is insertet and when the video is finished just "Saved". Maybe if you save a video through "Save" (and not "Save as"), for new, added files just the references will be saved in a self contained-video.
    Your thoughts?

  • Out of memory error when exporting to QT self contained movie

When I export to QT self contained movie the program runs for about an hour then brings an "out of memory" error. My project is 1hour 10 min. I have 650 GB on the external drive I'm saving to and another 145 GB on my imac's drive. There are also photographs I've included in the sequence but I have removed them all from the sequence to see if the format was the problem but the error still comes up. I would appreciate any help.

Well I don't have to render as I go, it is just a choice. I checked to see if all the video and stills were rendered. I re-rendered after making sure all of the options were checked, removed all of the stills from the timeline just in case the still format was the problem, then attempted to export again. It took about 2 hours. I watched with activity monitor and it took almost all of the available disc space then my computer shut itself down. When I rebooted there was a Quicktime file 320 GB in size but would not open. I got an error message that it was not a mov. file.
    But to answer your question:
    Video is 29.97fps DV/DVCPRO
    Frame size is 720 x 480
    3.0 mb/sec
    16 bit Integer
    Aplha= None /ignore
    Composit is Normal
    NTSC-CCIR 601
    Stereo
Stills are at 25.0 fps JPEG

  • Using 'Save As' in a self contained file is dropping elements

    Hi there,
I am finding with a fully self-contained Keynote file containing placed audio, movie and images, when you do a 'save as' it says there is a problem saving some elements in the file and they drop off. However if I duplicate the original file in the finder, then open in Keynote, delete and edit some pages and do a straight 'save' it works fine!
Any suggestions would be most helpful so I can go back to doing 'Save As' - the more intuitive method of working.
    Thank you,
    Josh

That is a typical behavior of Keynote 3 that disappeared with upgrade to Keynote 4 in my case.
The respective files were probably rather aliased to some place (i.e., the trash), than stored in toto in the Keynote file. Again a problem of Keynote 3 not carried over to Keynote 4.
On the other hand, Keynote 4 is much slower with large files, unfortunately.

  • Save as self-contained movie option no working in browser downloaded video

    HELP!!!!!
Today my QuickTime Pro 7 option arrow to save browser downloaded videos as self-contained movie has stopped functioning. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

+I've found mov's to be substantially larger in size than wmv, but I can't really explain why, other than compression being the factor.+
MOV files are a container format, not a compression format. Also, when saving as a self-contained MOV, it simply repackages the file with the same encoding, so this problem is independent of compression issues.
+You can also get on the F4M user forum+
Yes, that was going to be my next step. I posted the question there, and they said the increase in size is a side effect of making the WMV compatible with the MOV format. It has something to do with ASF packetization.
    http://forum.flip4mac.com/forum/messageview.aspx?catid=10&threadid=1439&forumid= 1
To get around this problem, I guess I'll just have to recompress all the files in some other (non-WMV) format.

  • Self-contained movie asking for source files

I have exported a final cut pro movie as a self-contained file, and after I deleted the source files, as my harddrive was jammed full, I am unable to burn the project onto a dvd. The file won't open in quicktime or final cut pro. It keeps asking for a source file to continue - HELP! It was a two hour movie that I am to be burning for XMas, and it has slipped out of my computer apparently. It was opening on its own without my harddrive connected before I deleted the source files, so I KNOW it was self-contained which is the only reason I deleted the files in the first place! Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

This is not a new problem. I have encountered it through many versions of QuickTime.
Typically, it happens after I assemble a compilation of clips from various sources, including imported Windows Media files. I diligently check the "Save as a self-contained movie" option, which always indicates a file size larger than the "Save as reference movie" option -- for example, 1.7 MB vs. only 9.2 KB for a short clip. And yet, if I have discarded the original clip, QuickTime is unable to play some of the supposedly self-contained movies because it can't find the deleted source files. It's kind of maddening, especially when there's no way to recover the original clips.
I haven't tracked this, but I suspect it might happen when a clip in one format is pasted into a movie without first converting it to QuickTime. Has anyone else noticed this possibility and tested it?

  • PowerPoint experienced a serious problem with the 'adobe presenter powerpoint com addin' add-in.

I've installed Adobe Presenter V7.0.7 Build 7746. When I open an existing PowerPoint file and try and use Presenter, I get the following error: PowerPoint experienced a serious problem with the 'adobe presenter powerpoint com addin' add-in. If you have seen this message multiple times, you should disable this add-in and check to see if an update is available. Do you want to disable this add-in?
No, I don't want to disable it. When I click No, PowerPoint stops working. I get a message that says: Microsoft PowerPoint has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly, Widows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. My only choice is to click the Close program button.
When I open the PPT file again, I get the same "experienced a serious problem" message. If anyone has a solution to this, I'd appreciate knowing what it is. It took me a while just to get the Presenter option to appear in the PowerPoint toolbar. Now that I have it, it's not working.
    Thank you!

Thank you for your quick reply. Here are the answers to your questions.
    1. The file I'm having issues with was not created using any version of Presenter. It is simply a PowerPoint file.
    2. The file is a PPT not PPTX.
    3. I am running Windows7 and Office 2010.
I think I might have found the solution to the problem. I opened the PPT file and saved it as a PPTX file. Then I clicked the Presenter option in the PowerPoint toolbar and was able to select different Presenter options with no issues. I opened other PPTX files and I did not get the error window stating 'PowerPoint experienced a serious problem with the 'adobe presenter powerpoint com addin' add-in'.
This seems to work. So, it appears that any PPT file needs to be saved as a PPTX file before using Presenter. If you have another solution that I might be able to keep in my back pocket (in case this happens again and what I did does not work), then please answer. Otherwise, I'm good now.
    Thanks!

  • How to get self-contained .mov files without FCE opening up?

    Hi all experts,
I have fully rendered my first file, which is a simple text animation.
I did Export > QuickTime Movie. I am sure I tick the MAKE MOVIE SELF CONTAINED box.
When I quit FCE, I went to search for that .mov file. When I click at the file, FCE project file open up as well !!
If I copy this file for my friends, when they click at it, will they be able to see it if they do not have FCE ?
    Thanks

  • Cannot export a self contained Qucktime movie

As of yesterday I have lost the ability to export a self contained Quicktime move from FCE. The sequence is complete and rendered and I have exported as recently as last month but now it simply makes what's known as a reference movie with the suffix .mov
The Export drop down menu still displays all the Quicktime options.
Additionally the Quicktime icon in my dock when clicked displays a question mark. I tried downloading Quicktime but still no go.
    Please help Tom

Right but what I am trying to convey is that I need to generate the brushed chrome framed, high quality, up-loadable, stand alone video that I used to get with ease and I cannot get that with my FCE. What are you calling it, what is the proper term because I always called them Quicktime. I made one less than 2 months a go.
Quicktime is present in my System Prefs but is not in the dock. When it was a question mark appeared over it. I cannot find it, launch it, etc.
