Problem scrolling in events folder

Hi,
instead of on top with the latest image added, the events folder opens always only at the place of the image that happens to be also the current events folder icon. This is annoying as it requires me often to scroll all the way up from the bottom (my images are sorted by date and descending). How can this be changed? I like to have an events folder icon that does not affect the way the events folder opens and I like to begin on top with the last image added. Please, let me know. Thanks!
Frank

Personally I prefer that when I go back to the events that it goes back to where I was before I entered a specific event. Useful for when you are going through events looking for stuff and don't want to have to scroll back down in the event list to where you left off each time. This is the opposite of what you want unfortunately, but I assume the designers agreed that going back to the last location is desired by most people so some people won't find it ideal.
However, you can always use the Home/End keys on your keyboard (or with keyboards without them and instead a "fn" key, you can use fn-{left arrow} for Home and fn-{right arrow} for end. Yes, an extra key stroke when you get back to the event list, but as least you don't have to scroll it up or down to get to the top of bottom of the event page.
Hope that helps,
Patrick

  • Problems With Vertical Photos in One Event Folder

This is my first post here on these forums...I tried searching for an answer first and couldn't find one.
I have one event folder that is having problems. I am unable to export or even duplicate any pictures that are in the vertical position. This folder did not have this problem about a month ago, but since then I have added photos and now a problem has occurred. I have an album that contains some of these photos and they have the same problem there (for obvious reasons, since they are the same photo). All my other event folders are fine and do not have this problem. Did this folder somehow become corrupt? I haven't messed around with my library at all (at least not that I am aware of, I pretty much stay out of finder). At first I thought it may be because the pictures in the folder were taken with two different cameras, but I have other folders like that and they do not have this problem.
I tried rebuilding the library (cmd+alt and clicking iPhoto), but they did not fix my problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    mogunn:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There is a way I think you can recover that event. Open the library package like this and go to the Originals/event folder for the problem event. Copy it to the desktop and confirm that the photos are there and you can open them with Preview. Next open iPhoto and delete all photos in the event and then reimport the event folder from the desktop.
Warning: while in the library package via the Finder do not rename, move any file or folder. Just copy that one event folder to the desktop.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • ICal problem scrolling through all-day events

Not quite sure how to describe this but making easy to understand.
I organise my daily events using iCal on my mac and sync them to my iphone running the latest iphone updated software. I place all my things to do as an all-day event and at present has 21 events in there.
The phone scrolls through events no problem when I don't have a lot of events in the all-day event part but when I try to look at for example todays events with 21 items at the all-day part at the top it won't let me scroll and only shows 14 events instead of the 21?
    Any ideas?

This appeared to be a timezone issue, when daylight savings time came around the iPod and iCal dates synchronized correctly.

  • Feature Request: Timelines in Event Folder

    Hi,
Final Cut X is an awesome video editing program - great job with all of the updates you've been pushing out!!
There's something that I would love to see in Final Cut Pro X that would enhance the editors ability to organize.  I'd love to see timelines in the Event folder - like the title says.  I know that the creators of FCPX initially allowed the seperation of Events and Timelines to give editors access to all of their media at all times - and I am thankful that they are continually thinking out of the box to give us this kind of functionality.  But after it was released, I'd like to know if editors wound up using that functionality - that's not a rhetorical question, I'd really like to know.  Do they take footage from one movie shoot and use it in a different movie?  Do they take graphics for one commercial and use it in another?  If it's a consumer making a family vacation DVD, do they take shots from one trip and use it in another?  I definitely think it was an innovative idea, but it didn't wind up adding functionality that we use very often, and it wound up introducing complexity to the organization process.  The way timelines currently work, I have to export the entire sequence - I can't have version 1 of my video at the beginning of the timeline and version 2 at the end.  I have to create two, three, four seperate timelines.  I can't use keywords to make the different versions.  I also can't have 2 different commercials on the same timeline.  I would love to one day be able to open up the Event window, choose my event, and see all of my related timelines there, all my footage, all my graphics, and even all my Motion files (because right now, I have to create my Motion files as templates and organize those in a seperate template window.)  It would be great to hit a little plus sign in my Event and create another timeline.  But right now, I start getting stressed when I have more than 10 projects in Final Cut... and I have about 30 and counting.  It also takes 2 to 3 times longer to delete my old projects because they're in three different windows, and I have to remember how I made them.  It may sound like a small issue, but I think Final Cut is good at eliminating the small problems in an editor's day to day workflow.  It would also consolidate all of the project's data into one folder on my hard drive.  And the great part is, editors would still have all of the same functionality that you originally envisioned, being able to access all of their media in any timeline - because the Event window is still there, and as accessible as ever.  Allowing timelines to be placed in an Event, along with Motion files, would allow an increased level of organizational optimization that would give editors the freedom to think less about saving their work and more about creating it. Lemme know if you have any thoughts, too!
    - David

Okay, that's a good thing.  I just tried it out, and this is what happened.  I made a selection of the area I wanted to export, turned it into a compound clip, and copied it.  Then, in the project list, created a new project that will adjust it's frame size automatically, pasted it, then export.  That definitely is a way to put different videos in the same timeline.  Nice workaround, thank you Tom!
But, even though this answers one of my questions (thanks Tom), I still have a bunch more that I want Apple to consider.  First of all, this doesn't answer the questions about organization.. or Motion.  I would still like to be able to organize my projects in a more conducive environment.  If I could see my timelines in the Event pane, I could utilize all of FCPX's awesome export features in one click, the way FCPX intended.

  • Found Audacity for my background noise. Can I edit my audio files in the FCPX event folder in Finder?

I think I found the solution to my background noise problem using Audacity.
But can I edit my audio files that are in FCPX Event folder in Finder? Or do I actually have to edit my project all over again to put in new audio (edited by Audacity)?

No, copying the whole Project and Event is just too much of a waste of time.
Do this, in the Browser, select the audio file you need to take to Audacity.  Export it as a Master File, and in the Settings section of the Share window, set Format to Audio Only.  Set Audio File Format to AIFF.  Set Open With to "Other" and select Audacity.  Then pick your Desktop as the location to save the file.
In Audacity, do whatever it is you want and save it.
Back in FCP X, import the new "fixed" file, be sure to check the box to copy it to your Event folder.
Finally, if necessary, do a Replace edit with the new version to the old one if it has already be edited into a Timeline.

  • Horizontal scroll-bar on folder view

This is a big problem for me, my folder structure is very complex and has lots of nested, long-named folders. Even maximizing the left sidebar size, I still can't view the most nested ones!!
    2 solutions:
    - add a horizontal scroll-bar
    - (Picasa like), make some folder temporarily the top one (don't like this one personally)
and by the way, the nesting margin should really be reduced!
    thanks
    Luca

I agree, but in the mean time, Jeffrey's Configuration manager allows you to make the panels arbitrarily wide:

  • FCP X does not recognize Final Cut Events folder

FCP X will always recognize both internal drives in my MacPro, named Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD2.  About one third of the time it will see that both are present, but for Macintosh HD2 it will say there are no Events or Projects or anything else there for FCP X to read.  After rebooting anywhere between 1 and 5 times it will recognize the Final Cut Events folder that is actually there and let me get on with my work.  I have never changed anything about the folder manually or outside of FCP X, and it's not like it never recognizes the folder.  It is only about a third of the time that it will not recognize it.
So I have a couple questions:
Is there any way to point FCP X to the events folder on a specific drive that it thinks is not there so I don't have to keep quitting FCP X and rebooting?
Is this a bug that others have had and Apple will address or is it something about my hard drive?
It only happens to one drive, the other internal drive is fine, and all external drives and drobos have been perfect.  Could it be that the drive in question is only 5400 rpm?

If Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects folders are on your internal drive, make sure they are in the Movies folder.  This is where they are installed by default when on the system drive it seems.  If on an external or non-system drive put them at the top level of the drive.
Then (IMPORTANT), if you have them on more than one drives at the same time, Final Cut Pro X can get confused IF you have the same event names and project names in these two folders on both drives.  It's probably best to put them only on one drive to troubleshoot your problems.  Then, once that is resolved, you could have the Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects folders at the top level of two drives but with differning events and projects within them.  It should have nothing to do with a drive being a 5400 rpm.  The timeouts for reading drives for an application are much slower than the rotational speed of the drive.  IMHO. Best wishes.

  • Not enough disk space for event folder

    Hello
So, i've been facing this problem for quite a while now (3 hours of constant raging ;D)
Something went wrong with FCP X and I lost my entire project (which is not the point)
I cleared everything from FCP X to start over again (all the event files, projects,...). Now that I am trying to get every file back in my event folder (via import files, it's about 41gigs of files) it says that I haven't got enough disk space. But I do, I have 830gigs of free space on my internal HD.
I have no idea what the problem is or how to solve it.
    Your ideas are very welcome
    Thanks beforehand, a young editor.

First tried it without removing them from the trash (if that is what you mean). then emptied the trash and tried it again.
and yes I have there is currently 862,13 GB available

  • No scrolling of Events in Day View

In the latest version of Snow Leopard (10.6 as of this writing), iCal day view does not allow scrolling of events. If the amount of events in a day goes beyond the bottom of the screen, there is no way to scroll to see the rest of them. The user must cut some of the top ones and paste them into a different day in order to see the bottom ones. Scrolling of events in day view is needed to solve this problem.
Anyone have any tricks for avoiding cut-and-paste to see iCal events when they go below the screen?

can you change the height to 100% and see whether you have the same issue

  • Scrolling lags in folder with many subfolders

My problem is that since upgrading to Yosemite, navigating large folders is extremely sluggish. Dragging one file from one folder to another used to lag for up to several seconds, but I fixed that particular problem, for the most part, by clearing Finder's cache. However, scrolling in any folder with approximately a hundred items in it or more still hangs. I tried playing with the scrollbar visibility but that didn't solve anything. Is there any way to fix this so I can scroll quickly and smoothly through large folders? Thanks.

Open your Music folder and type cmd-F. If the folder is not selected as the search source, select it.
Leave the first line set to Kind is Any.
    Option-click the + button
Set it to "None" of the following are true
In the first line of that criteria, set it to Kind is Music All
That will include all the folders, but you can sort by Kind, which will move them out of the way.

  • How do permissions work with iMovie Events folder?

I'm using iMovie and have one problem: every time I launch iMovie, the software takes a couple of minutes "optimizing movies."   I read in the forums that a way to solve this problem is to change the permsions of the iMovie Events folder so that everyone has read/write access.  This may solve the original problem, but could cause a new problem if i don't understand the implications.
I'm fairly new to Mac.  My Mac has three types of users:
    me
    staff
    everyone
We really only have one account on this computer.  I think the other ones (staff and everyone) are default accounts.
What are the implications of giving staff and everyone read write access??
Could for example someone on another computer on my home wifi network delete or make changes to those folders and files?
Is there a way to solve my original problem (stop the "optimizing movies" every time i launch iMovie) without giving staff and everyone write access?
    Thank you.

    You have two options:
    1) Add a Class-Path entry for each plug-in directory, not just the plugins.
Class-Path: plugins/myDir plugins/yourDir2) Go ahead and put the plug-ins in separate packages - package handling makes doing plug-ins easier in the long run. Two ways:
    package plugins.myDir;    // no Class-Path entry requiredor
package myDir;            // which works with your current Class-Path

  • After renaming and moving to my desktop an iMovie project, i can not open it. I moved it back to iMovie but still it is not working. I noticed that there is not an Event Folder for the project. Can someone help me?

I renamed an iMovie project, then I moved it out of iMovie to my desktop. It did not work from there. Finally I managed to move it back to iMovie, but still does not work. I can't edit it, it does not even appear as an option. I found out that the Event Folder for this Project is gone. Is this the problem? Is there a way I can get it back? Can somenone help me?? Obviously after so many mistakes you can tell I am new on this. Any help will be appreciated it!!!!!

OK Let's take a step back.
If you imported video clips from a camcorder there would be an Events folder in the Movies/iMovie Events/ folder.
You have the option as you import from a camcorder to send your Event to an external drive instead. In this case, it would be in the iMovie Events folder at the top level of the external drive.
If your project has no video clips, but only photos, there may be no events folder, only links to iPhoto.
Similarly, if your camera imported your video clips to iPhoto, and you used the iPhoto event in iMovie, then your clips are in iPhoto, and there is no separate iMovie event.

  • Future support for Scroll Bar Events?, Any workarounds?

I am wondering whether there is an intention to add scroll bar
events to Forms. These would be incredibly useful in a number of
    situations ie
    1) You have a window with two stacked canvases. One contains
items in a tabular MR block style. It has a horizontal scroll
bar. When the user scrolls this view, I want to move another
stacked canvas by the scrolled amount, to keep it in synch with
    the underlying items.
    2) Similar problem for block scroll bars. In a MR block, I have
a list item on a stacked canvas, that I reposition over the the
current record. This is acheived by writing a When-New-record-
Instance trigger. Unfortunately, when the user scrolls with the
scroll bar, the stacked canvas obviously doesn't move.
The only solution I have found is to use timers, which is very
    messy

    Hello,
This is a well-known issue with this code, as you can see in the thread you copied the code from.
In the following post, Laura is presenting an IE only solution, based on a different code I wrote - Re: How to implement fixed column headers . Cross browser solution is yet to be found.

  • How to take clips from Event Library and put in separate event folder?

(I looked in iMovie Help menu but found no help.)
I recently did a file transfer from my Sanyo HD2000A which was a large accumulation of clips taken since last spring 2010. This was my first upload.
Now I have a lot of clips organized by date by iMovie '11. There are various categories of these clips, and one of them is +"Ducks in my back yard swimming pool."+ Another is a huge number of clips taken over time of three baby sparrows in the nest outside my window. It is a progression of how they are fed by their parents and how they grow and leave.
My plan is to get them into their own folders, filed by time/recency, and then pick and choose from those two folders/categories during the making of a movie which includes them along with other little adventures.
Question: How can I separate all of the duck clips and the sparrow clips so that they are each in their own folder and not spread out in folders organized by days?
    =L

Lorna, I think I understand better now what you are talking about.
So on any one clip, it will be ducks, or sparrows, but not both.
You can create a folder in the Event Library called Ducks and another folder called Sparrows. These must be in the Movies/iMovie Events folder on your internal drive, or they must be in the iMovie Events folder at the top level of an external drive.
Go through your current Event folders. Drag the duck clips to the duck folder. Drag the Sparrow clips to the Sparrow folder. I would do a MOVE, but if you have enough disk space, you could do this as a COPY until you are sure that all works as you intend.
The next time you open iMovie, it will generate thumbnails and cache for these new Duck and Sparrow events. The events will be placed in the Event Library in the month of the most recent clip, even though the clips may span several months.
If all goes well, you can delete the prior events. If there is footage still in them (that is not sparrows or ducks, for example), you could delete the thumbnails and cache folders and let iMovie regenerate thumbnails and cache after it opens.
Also, Tom's advice about not moving or renaming anything you have already used is very appropriate...
If you have already created Projects using this material, this will break the links in your projects. (Unless you did a COPY rather than a MOVE above and left both the old and new folders intact.)

  • I have no problems copying iMovie Events from one Mac to another, however, how can I copy iMovie Projects from one Mac to another?

I have no problems copying iMovie Events from one Mac to another, however, how can I copy iMovie Projects from one Mac to another?  Any help will be appreciated.  Thank you.

This should give you some good insight, I'd probably store them on an External HD on the old machine and then just drag and drop to the new machine.
