Problem: Security & iPod update affects update_prebinding

Before the latest combined security and iPod update (of 22nd sept. 05) I first run the repair permissions & disk from Tigers installationdisc. After that I restart from the HD on my PowerBook and does a "sudo update_prebinding -root / -force" in Terminal.
After this process I run both updates and installation hereof. Fine enough...
After that I once more runs the repair of permissions & disk from the installationsdisc, restarts again from PowerBooks harddisk og does a "sudo update_prebinding -root / -force" in Terminal - and expects that I then just have to restart to have completed the whole thing according to the book....
...but in Terminal something has now been written, that I have never seen before:
update_prebinding: temp file missing: /usr/lib/libz.1.2.3_redoprebinding.dylib
It makes me a bit nerveous - 'cause what's this - and what does it mean???
Has it got something to do with the updates?
I try the whole process in Terminal three times - but this message is written in Terminal at the end of the update_prebinding every time...
?????

I just connected my iPod into my computer and it told
me to update the iPod software. Now my iPod library
is no longer accessible; instead it just shows the
iPod "options" like which playlists I want to sync,
etc. The problem is that all of my videos are
actually stored on a different computer so I used to
just manually update while using this computer. Now I
am no longer able to view the contents of my iPod or
delete songs/videos. Could I somehow go back to the
iPod software that I was using before I updated?
THanks
On the menu on the side of the screen where your ipod is listed, there should be a drop down menu that says music, video, podcasts, etc. Click on music and you'll have access to your song files.

  • Problem with iPod Updater 2006-08-28

    Hi,
It seems that there is a bug in this version of the iPod Updater. I didn't know where to post so I came here as this problem may be the related to the fact that I use it on my Nano 1Go.
When I restored my iPod, the iPod Updater created a void SysInfo file :s
So this was a problem to test stuff like iPodLinux.
I had to restore it with the precious version on the CD (2006-03-23) and then make an update with the 2006-08-28 to keep the SysInfo file.
    Is it normal ?
Could someone warn apple of this bug ?

I was a fool. I refrained from updating because I knew better than to try to fix something that isn't broken, but I was hungover and upset about the fact that whenever the headphones cord wiggles my ipod pauses. I was convinced for the split second in between two throbbing beats in my head that perhaps the new update would give me an option of shutting that aspect of the ipod off. Woe is me.
Now 10 gb of my music is unavailable. The ipod just skips over it. It didn't delete the files, they're all still there, I just can't play them; not on the ipod nor on the computer (not original computer for ipod). In Itunes an exclamation point shows up in the first column whenever I try to play certain songs, but there is no information about what is wrong. If I go to info on these songs there is no entry for Profile: Channel: or Encoded With:, unlike the rest of my songs that still work.
    Any hope of recovery?

  • Any known problems with iPod Updater 2006-06-28?

I was wondering if anyone's had any issues with their iPods since updating with the iPod Updater 2006-06-28.
    Thanks!

  • Problem after ipod updater

I have updated my Ipod nano, after doing so my comuter recognizes it as a hard drive, and neither itunes nor the ipod updater can access it.
when I go insside the ipod and see in the about section, it tells me that it has 1.8 gigs installed and 1.1 available, but there are no songs appearing nor any information appearing on the ipod. It used to have information and songs prior to the update.
so now everytime I connect it the ipod gets reset, and I am not able to do anything with it.
    How can I fix this?

If the songs are on your computer, that's the most important thing... backup. If they are I would try the 5R's
    http://www.apple.com/support/
If that doesn't work... Applecare. I think you'll have to restore the nano, this should resolve issues.

  • Problem with Ipod updater

    so here's my problem--
I tried putting new music on my ipod, and it told me that my ipod needed to have a software update. ok, no problem. downloaded the software update, and when i tried to update the ipod, it told me that it didn't need an update, and when i tried to update it anyway it said there was nothing to install.
craziness! I can't update my ipod but i can't put new music on it without an update.
    help!

    gr8ball,
For starters, how about letting us know what software version your iPod says it has installed. See:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60984
See how that relates to the latest version available for your iPod model as listed on the Updater download page: http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    We'll see where that leads.

  • BEWARE of iPod Updater 2006-01-10

I just ran the iPod Updater 2006-01-10 on my iPod Photo and it erased the disk and made it unrecognisable to the OS. I then tried to run the iPod Updater 2006-01-10 on it and run restore, but it could not read the disk. So the iPod was DEAD. Luckily I had iPod Updater 2005-11-17 on my machine and it seems to be working.

In response to the thread I created 24 hours ago consolidating discussion of this issue, Apple has locked the thread, locked me out of my former user name, and deleted my attempts to continue the discussion on this board. I can no longer post to these forums with the name "L3263827"!
Apple seems to be dodging this issue, and I wanted users of the forums to be aware of their despicable behavior.
Many of my previous posts have been deleted. If I disappear again keep the discussions up! Apple will not address this issue unless it is demonstrated that the updater has caused problems on a "significant number of units". Apple's position seems to be that the updater is "working" on "millions of units" and therefore those of us with problems are insignificant or irrelevant.
After hours on tech support today they offered to repair my iPod without charge (as they should have offered from the beginning), or to send me a $100 coupon towards the purchase of a new unit (which I was apparently supposed to be honored to receive). I have had to address the lockout of my userID through different channels.
Attention users with old iPods that are now paperweights: Report the problem! If we don't report the problem and prove the pervasive nature of this issue Apple has repeatedly stated they will ignore it!
Check the old thread "Complete iPod Failure" ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=330396&tstart=0 ) See how many users reported problems between 4pm and 9am! Don't let Apple steal your iPod and sell it back to you!
I suggest users experiencing problems with iPod Updater 2006-01-10 now create new, individual "Me Too Updater 2006 - Username" threads with descriptions of their problems and models, rather than post to a single thread Apple can lock and ignore.

  • PC crash after installing ipod updater

    HI!
Ok, so after coming home ipod updater was loaded on to my computer i guess as a supplement to V7 of itunes. we should have the choice of allowing this! anyway, a few days later, i am playing itunes off my computer and it completely crashes. i have to exchange my HD. my friend also had a problem with his system after updater installed. he had to manually uninstall all itunes software and reloaded an older version. is anyone having incompatibility problems with their pc and itunes 7 or ipod updater? i have another friend whose PC just crashed this week, also since having downloaded these same programs. What is going on?? This was also after we hooked up my ipod to his computer to transfer music and it would not allow him to click and drag files to my ipod while connected to his computer. he seemst to think my ipod may be carrying a virus, but my pc runs a realtime virus monitor and downloads updates when available. if my ipod had a virus wouldn't i know...and i only download music from itunes and my own cd collection, i do not take files from other sources! what could be going on here? i am nervous because i don't want to get my new hard drive installed and have it crash again if there is some problem related to itunes and/or ipod updater. i had no problems before ipod updater appeared on my computer, and this all happened within a week of that. any ideas or help would be awesome!!!
    thx

Im having the exact same problem, used to run on an older version of iTunes untill i updated...now nothing works with updating my iPod. We could use an answer here....

  • IPod Updater Code problem? iTunes not connecting with iPod.

There may be a problem with the iPod updater.
    I have a 15 GB iPod (JQ418QZLQQF)
Updated iTunes to 5.0.1.4. Connected iPod.
Got a window...told me to downloaded iPod Updater 9/23/05. Did it.
Updated iPod. iTunes would start writing and then quit. Got a window; told me to restore iPod.
Tried restore 7 times. Failed. When iTunes tried to load it stalled, then McAfee Antivirus program hung up, then got messages that it could no longer communicate with iPod ... got (-36) errors.
Got FAQ sheets. Did everything. Unplugged from internet, disabled antivirus program. No luck.
Unloaded every non-related program in RAM. No luck.
Tried iTunes and iPod in SAFE mode. No luck.
Last error message was "Attempting to copy to the disk "IPOD" failed. An unknown error occurred (-53)"
Bought 5th generation 20 GB iPod Color. Plugged it in.
Reformatted it with the 9/23/05 ipod updater. ... iTunes could not connect to it.
Tried the 9/6/05 updater. Still didn't work.
Opened the CD that it came with and installed the 6/5/05 ipod updater software. iTunes immediately recognized the new ipod and loaded songs without failure.

I ran into this on a client system yesterday. Same issue re: new songs with a dock ipod running ver 2.2.
I tried to update on three separate g4 based macs, each running 10.3.9. On one, the ipod failed to mount. On the other two, the updater gave the message {approx} "the firmware for the update is not present" when the Update button was clicked.
For no good reason, I tried using the "Update" in the Options menu instead of the button. I immediately got an administer confirmation box, gave the password, and the update proceded correctly. Monkey behavior triumphs. Got to be an installer bug. Try it and let us know if this works for you.

  • Problem with new iTunes & iPod update

Ever since installing the new iTunes update I've been having problems updating my iPod.
At first when I ran the new version of iTunes a message popped up telling me that I needed to update the software on my iPod. Upon trying to do that, another window popped up saying that 'iPod couldn't be mounted'.
So now my computer can't detect my iPod. I've restored my ipod which didn't help. I would reset my ipod but I can't even do that since when I run the ipod updater program it doesn't detect it. I've tried numerous times to see unplugging/plugging my ipod with the firewire and noticed the ipod hdd was whirring like crazy (and still no detection).
Since the last time I attempted doing that I've noticed that some of my mp3 files on my ipod have become corrupt and would stop halfway through play and just skip to the next song.
Any idea whats going on and how I could fix this??

    iPod won't turn on.
iPod doesn't appear in iTunes or on the Mac desktop.
iPod does not appear in iPod Updater or iTunes in Mac OS X.
iPod appears on the Mac OS X desktop but not in iTunes.
Try to restore it in disk mode.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.

  • HELP - iPod Update Problem

Just joined the Forum after reading some of the posts here - you guys seem to know alot more about this than me so any help is greatly appreciated.
My 30Gb 5th Gen iPod has software version 1.2.3. iTunes tells me there is a version 1.3 available but when I try to update it I get an unknown error message (1417).
I've been through the support pages and have done the 5 R's as recommended but my iPod won't restore - not even to the early version. I get an unknown error message (1418) when I try to restore.
On trying to just synch the iPod without updating the software iTunes tells me that my PC is not authorised to play over 100 tracks and it has now removed them from my iPod even after I have signed in to authorise my computer over 30 times when the messages appear!!
This is the only computer I have used to update my iTunes and iPod for over 2 years now and it is running fine. I've had no problems until now and usually update every 2 - 3 months.
I need help to get my iPod updated to the latest software and to get my iPod / iTunes to recognise that my computer is authorised to play the music.
Help please - I've been trying to get this thing to work for hours!!
    Cheers, Al

Thanks Jeff but I've been through these steps on two or three occasions before I joined the forum and they haven't done any good.
The other reply tells me to re-format the iPod.
Is this a good idea or would I just be left with a (semi) useless portable drive?
If I were to consider this would I do it through "My Computer" and format the drive or explore the drive and just delete all the content?
I don't want to do anything that'll be un-recoverable. Let's face it I am still able to use the iPod at the moment and although I've lost access to 100 songs I still have over 3000 songs to keep me going! All I really want to do is update the software and keep it updated.
Another thread suggested the removal of iTunes and iPod updater software from the PC and then re-installation. Any views on that solution?

  • Problem Ejecting iPod Photo since updating software

Can anyone help with my problem ?
Just updated iTunes to 5.0.0.35. All seemed ok until I needed to update software on iPod (colour screen, 60gb) to 1.2 so I can use the camera connector I bought when I go on holiday.
Now I'm having serious problems. I've had the pod for a few months and it's been great until now.
I've been adding album art to iTunes albums. Now the pod with it's new software connects to itunes much slower and I seem to have lost songs from the pod. "Do Not Disconnect" message is continuously on pods screen. It won't disconnect from tunes and when I try to disconnect from PC using the safely remove hardware tactic, I get a box saying "The Device 'Apple iPod USB Device' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later."
I've tried everything, from safely removing it to right clicking to eject. The iPod is still stuck on the DO NOT DISCONNECT screen. The only way was to disconnect it then restart the pod using menu/select buttons together. But when I connect it again to the PC, the same thing has happened. Again, I've tried all sorts, from rebooting the PC to changing some options in iTunes.
This all seems to be since I updated the software this morning (Sept 30). I've also tried resoring the iPod and starting all over again, but a soon as you connect it to the PC, it seems to freeze up with that same message on the screen. iPod Updater software said it "Couldn't Mount iPod connected".
Please put me out of my misery. Boo Hoo............

    Cheers for that Mrsuknow,
Unfortunately I don't have an 'automatically disconnect' check box under my ipod tab, or anywhere else in preferences for that matter.
And the pod never finishes updating. It tries for a few minutes, then a message appears saying, Ipod couldn't be updated, file(s) not found. A load of exclamation marks appear next to certain songs in the iPod library. When I try to play any of them on the pod, they show as being there but won't play. They're still there on iTunes.
And I've tried restoring factory settings again on the pod, but updater says it can't mount the iPod again.
    Boo.....

  • I think I found out what the iTunes + iPod update problem is

    All,
I spent some more time trying to figure out what exactly this iPod update/iTunes problem is and I think I discovered something interesting.
I can manually sync my MP3's but not my AAC files. When I sync MP3's - iTunes and the iPod are fine. However, as soon as I attempt to sync even one Protected AAC file, iTunes bombs.
I'd be interested in seeing if others try this and get the same results. If this is the core problem, syncing protected or AAC files, then we may be able figure out the exact component that has botched everything up here.
    Chris

RE: manual sync - I mean manual copying through iTunes. That is - not selecting to update the songs automatically. I drag them from my library to the iPod within iTunes so I have control what goes there.
Bummer - I thought I was on to something. All I can say is that I can sync anything but the Protected AAC's. When I let it automatically sync my iPod, iTunes bombed. When I selected manual syncing and moved a playlist, it bombed after a few songs. I tried to look into why it would stop on certain songs, and noticed that it was bombing on the protected AAC's. So, I copied over 1000 MP3's including songs and podcasts, and they copied successfully. I selected one AAC and immediately it bombed.
Maybe our problems are not the same?
    Chris

  • THIS WILL SOLVE YOUR IPOD UPDATE PROBLEM (HOPEFULLY...)

I checked this out, did what he said, and it worked perfectly.
GKE, "Ipod update freeze, firewire problem, possible fix for many.", 10:46am Oct 9, 2005 CDT

Unfortunately, that didn't do the trick for me - a few more songs copied then previously, but then I got the 'Attempting to copy to the disk "xxx" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to' ....
