Problem sending emails on a MacBook using a new BT...

Can anyone help? I am using a Mac Mail on a MacBook running 10.6.8. We received a new hub from BT and I am no longer able to send emails from my email account using the hub. Wireless connections other than my own home hub work just fine, so I know there is a problem using the home hub.
As you can imagine this is VERY frustrating. I have paid a technical support person £50 to look into this and we have no answers. I have spent an hour on the phone to BT help and got nowhere either. They could not understand that I was running Mail on a Mac and gave me instructions to diagnose the problem that were for PC users. They could not put me through to Mac specific help.
I have read through lots of varied forum posts and have found out that it seems simply that BT hubs do not seem to like Apple products. My email is provided by 123-reg and I am using their webmail to send emails but am not happy to do this on a long term basis. I work both from home and elsewhere and am not a technical person so need a practical and straightforward answer to this problem. I am paying BT each month to use the hub and if I cannot I would like to stop paying asap.
Can anyone help?

Have you just moved to the Home Hub 3 or 4 after being on the Hub 2? If so, I can provide a resolution for you.
The issue is with the way the mac presents it's name to the router, it doesn't resolve properly on the router and as a result causes issues with email providers that use SSL.
The easiest way to check if this is the issue is to go to the apple menu>system preferences>network. Select wireless on the left hand side, then advanced in the bottom right corner. Select DNS at the top of this screen. Then press the + symbol in the bottom left corner and then type 8.8.8.8. Hit apply, then close the network prederences box. This will probably ask you to save the changes. Hit save, or apply changes.
Open mac mail and try and send a new email, should go fine.
Now we have determined the issue, the fix is quick, but a couple of steps. Go to spotlight in the top right corner of your screen and type terminal, select it from the list. This will bring up a little screen where you can enter type written commands. You need to type scutil --set HostName DavesImac (for example). then close terminal.
Next step is to go back to apple menu>system preferences>sharing. At the top of this screen it shows the name of your mac. There is an edit button, hit that and then in the box on the next screen type in the same name as you typed on terminal (DavesImac in our example), then hit apply.
Go back to system preferences, then select network. Select wireless again and at the top it shows location. Click on the up down arrow and then hit the + button and enter a new location, home for example, then select it. Hit apply at the bottom of the screen. Then hit advanced again and at the top select tcp/ip. There should be a button on here Refresh DHCP lease. Hit that and it will refresh your connection to the router. CLose down all the screens, reopen mac mail and try and send an email, should go fine.

• Having a problem sending email, I have tried all the fixes, but no luck, actually it works at times and most times it does not. What more can I try.

Issues send email from my macbook Pro, it is a web based email, and I can send it by logging into the webmail site. The odd part is that sometimes it just works and most times it does not. I go through and make some random changes and and then go back and change it back and it wold work for that email, and then a few minutes later I try to send another and does not work, try doing the same and this time it does not work, getting a little frustrated, what else can I do, except chage back to a windows based laptop?

If you're having trouble sending, but not receiving, mail, it's likely due to your outgoing (SMPT) server settings.
Which webmail service are you using? Some provide some good guidelines on setting up your account, some not so good.

• IPad problem sending emails

I can receive emails to my btinternet.com address on my iPad but i cannot send emails from the address using the iPad. Has anyone else come across this problem and know a solution?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I've got exactly the same problem but I must be doing something stupid because even entering manually doesn't work. I set up originally using the Yahoo wizard and can receive emails fine. However the details for the Yahoo SMTP server give a Host Name of smtp.example.com and the User name and Password fields say "optional". I can't edit these fields and I can't delete the Server and start again. I have set up another SMTP server with a Host Name of mail.btinternet.com and Server Port of 25 but it still doesn't work.SSL is On. Authentication is Password. Help would be much appreciated. Apple support were useless.

• Send email to different domain using different address

hi
I want to set my exchange recipients have 2 email address.
1=[email protected] 2=[email protected]
1.how can I set this setting? (I know I can use something called policy but I don't know how can use that for exchange 2013; please tell me how can do this)
2.how can set my exchange server to send email to different domain with different account? (after question 1; my recipients has 2 email address (***@domain.com,
***@domain.co) I want my recipients when send email to "company.com" using domain.com address and for other domains using domain.co)
thanks

1. Add an accepted domain. Add the e-mail address to your e-mail address policy. Update the e-mail address policy.
2. http://www.ivasoft.biz/choosefrom2007.shtml This has been the traditional answer for Exchange 2010 and earlier. You might contact him to see if it works for Exchange 2013.
I don't know of a native way to do this except to create separate mailboxes for each address.

• Annoying problem sending email

We have 2 MacBooks. We have separate email accounts (several each). We both frequently get problems SENDING email. The account can vary.
The problem is that it says the server needs us to enter the password. This seems to be a bug, we've learned. If we hit "cancel" and go in the outbox, and open the email, and send it again, it always goes through immediately.
How can we stop from having to take all these additional steps to send email?

I too have had the exact same problem. I contacted godaddy and of course they said they don't resolve problems with third party clients. I have entered all the settings above, and as they show on the godaddy site, and as the 'helpful' support person sent me. None have worked. I have a hard time believing I have the only computer that doesn't connect to godaddy servers.
My pc works just fine, even a touch on the fast side with my godaddy mail, but Apple mail is only able to receive and not send. As for Mark's comment my mail takes almost 3 minutes before it times out. According to the connection doctor I connect to the server, password is accepted, but then it just seems to lollygag around doing nothing. If I have 'details' selected it shows me lots of 'PASS' and 'OK'.
Any help appreciated.

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol RFC 5321 specifications.
RCPT TO:<forward-path> [ SP <rcpt-parameters> ] <CRLF>
The first or only argument to this command includes a forward-path
(normally a mailbox and domain, always surrounded by ">" and "<"
brackets) identifying one recipient. In other words, you can only define a SINGLE mailbox address at a time. Multiple addresses requires multiple repeats of this command verb, once per maibox.
Do not confuse this and the To: tag line in the Mime header that contains a comma delimited list of recipients. That tag line can contain anything - it is not parsed, not checked, and not verified as matching the actual recipient mailboxes as specified via the RCPT TO verb.

• Problems sending emails with iPhone 3G and outlook exchange

I have a problem sending email with exchange. Receiving and answering mail works fine and calender updates work fine. However when I initiate an email from the phone it syncs and ends up in the sent folder in the computer but never reaches the recipient. I have tried this many times with different recipients and phones. It only happens from my iphone and ipad. Any suggestions?
Any help much appreciated

The iPhone you returned is still syncing against your server and locking out your account. Someone possibly has access to your mail data. I'd recommend having your Exchange Administrator install the Microsoft Exchange Server ActiveSync Web Administration Tool (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E6851D23-D145-4DBF-A2CC -E0B4C6301453&displaylang=en) and attempt to wipe/delete/block that other iPhone.

• Problem sending emails out...

Problem sending emails when saved first as a draft. When I go to send the final draft, it disappears, including the draft. Very upsetting, happened many times but not consistently...
Help please, any ideas?

I can’t edit emails saved in drafts for both email accounts that I have. Double tapping on the email in the left hand list does nothing. Doubling tapping on the email gives me options to copy or define. Tried resetting the by holding the home and power keys down until the apple appears but nothing. Without this function the ipad is pretty pointless. Is my device faulty? Any help appreciated.

• TS3899 Problems sending email from hotmail addresses in iPad Mail

Hi
I am having problems sending email from my hotmail addresses (live.com) in the Mail program on my iPad. I get a message that says "An error occurred while sending this message". Tis morning the program worked perfectly. Now, not so much!
I have turned my iPad off and on. I have deleted and reinstalled the mail accounts. Neither strategy helped.
I have no problems with my gmail address. I can send mail if I log on to the hotmail website in Safari.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I would like to find a way to only have the gmail inbox but still send from any three of her accounts.
You can do it this way:
Set up only one account. The one from which you want to receive mail.
In Mail > Preferences > Accounts > +gmail acct+ > Email Address insert the other email addresses, separating each with a comma and single space.
Only the GMail account will receive incoming Mail. However, when you want to send from another address, in the From dropdown menu toggle the address from which you wish to send mail.
You will, of course, delete the other accounts you have created to avoid getting incoming messages.

• HT4864 Problems sending email via icloud

I am having problems sending email via my iCloud through Mail or Sparrow, I have checked the mail server settings and they are correct based on what is described on the Apple site. Anyone else having this problem?

For some reason, iCloud smtp servers haven't been working well over the last couple weeks. I have experienced this twice, in as many weeks. Very frustrating as I send numerous emails on a daily basis via my iCloud account. If I login through the browser, the sending works fine, but via Mac Mail...no go. Very irritating to say the least. Apple, please fix this fluctuation problem.

• Why can't I send emails from my Macbook Pro. A window pops up saying this: Sending the message content to the server failed. The server response was: An error occurred while sending this message using the SMTP server "(null)"

This is starting to REALLY frustrate me! I used to be able to send emails with attachments perfectly fine with my email, and now all of a sudden it won't work. I work from home, and 8/10 my emails need to have images in them. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!

Contact your internet service provider. They can run some tests to verify the cause of the problem. This sounds very much like an ISP issue.
