Problem Setting up lion OD Replica
Dear Community,
i have some big troubles in setting up the Open Directory Replication to another mac mini i7 Lion Server.
The directory was set up on the first mac mini i7 Lion Server without any problems. It's possible to join the directory from another mac computer.
When i wanted to set up the directory replication on the 2nd mac mini I'm getting this error:
There was a configuration error when configuring your server as an Open Directory replica.
See the Configuration Log for more information about the failure. Please refer to the Open Directory Administration Guide for further help.

I'm getting the same failure too. I have a Mac Pro running 10.7.2 and an iMac as a backup runing the same. The Kerberos thing is really the puzzler.
What's even more interesting is that my computer connected for a bit the first time and now it's in the masters "replica" list....but it's not connected and trying to connect it back is no luck...error 78.

Problems setting up an OD Replica (Could not retrieve HOST GUID for parent)
I have two computers running Mac OS Lion Server. The first started out as an OD Master and I wanted to migrate that over to the other. Here is the process I took:
Initial: 'A' is master, 'B' is unlinked.
1) set 'B' as replica of 'A'
2) set 'A' as master.
3) set 'B' as replica of 'A'.
Steps 1 and 2 went through fine, but 3 failed. I then made 'A' standalone and tried to re-bind it as a replica with no avail.
after investigation, i saw some errors in 'B's logs and decided to just nuke it and create a clean master. This went through without a problem, but I'm still getting errors trying to join 'B' as a replica. I dont see any errors in 'B' that would show any problems. in 'A' i see the following error in the slapdconfig.log:
FATAL : Could not retrieve HOST GUID for parent
I have not found any information on the internet for that error and i have not found any other errors on 'A' that would hint at why i cannot make it a replica.
Anyone have any ideas on what I might be able to try?I too have this error in setting up a 10.8 OD replica. Did you ever find a solution

Hey everyone,
Having a few problems setting up mail to exchange on a Nokia 5800.
We have the latest version of Mail to Exchange installed.
Were using Microsoft Exchange 2007.
Example serup of what we have done:
Mail to exchange - New profile - Input Username and Password of domain account - Input domain name - Chose Internet as means of connection -
The Nokia goes off and searches for the domain information, finds it OK. Shows a message regarding a server certificate, we chose to install this certificate this time only.
Phone crashes?
Any ideas whats going on?

Depending on the customer feedback, it works fine. Apple Mail the client that comes with OSX supports standard protocols (POP3, IMAP, SMTP), these are all supported by Exchange 2010.
If you're running Mac OS 10.4 Tiger or Mac OS 10.5 Leopard, you can still use the Mac Mail App to connect to your account. However, you need to connect to your account without using IMAP or POP.
If you're running Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard or Mac OS 10.7 Lion, you can use the Mail program included with those releases to connect to your email account automatically using an Exchange account.
When you use Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard or Mac OS 10.7 Lion and connect using an Exchange account, you can use features that aren't available to users who connect through IMAP or POP, including iCal and Address Book.

ps: sorry for my english :SYou apparently are using a version of OS X you did not purchase using your Apple ID. Although you can download Mavericks you cannot install it over your current system. You must repartition your hard drive, then reinstall the version of OS X originally installed when it came new from the factory. That would be on the installer discs that should have come with the computer. If the computer did not come with discs from the factory but OS X was pre-installed (Lion or Mountain Lion) then you can perform an Internet Recovery:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
Some serious problems with Mountain Lion

I upgraded my mid 2010 15" MBP to Mountain Lion 2 days ago, and I have some serious problems with my machine now.
- Wifi problem: like many members 's machines, mine has problem to connect to the wifi after sleep or restarting, I had to wait 10 to 15 minutes for it to connected to my home network. Anh I tried to remove all of my settings in System Preferences/Network and added new connection. And now it cant connect to wifi anymore. I'm writing this article while sitting on the floor with my Ethernet cable plugged in my MBP. I connected to internet through a DSL modem and a Airport Extreme as a bridge and Access Point. I also tried to set up all of my network device but my MBP can't connect to the wifi still.
- Keyboard problem with Pages: I was very happy with the new iCloud syncing for Pages documents but after 5 minutes, I met a big problem with Mountain Lion. Whenever I type in Pages with Vietnames Keyboard( Mac OS X built in or from another developer: http://www.trankynam.com/gotv/ ), Pages stops working immediately. I can still drag the Pages's window around but can't type or do any editing. After that I have to force quit pages. It is really stupid that I'm writing a book in Pages and now I have to stop my working till apple fixes this ridiculous bug. I tried German Keyboard as well and Pages worked flawlessly. Do you hate Vietnamese, Apple?
- Messages problem: Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I couln't send or receive any messages. It worked perfectly in Messages beta.
Does anyone have the same problems like me? Any solution such as how to reinstall Messages(I googled but found nothing)
Apple, please test your software more before release it. I feel like I have no computer at the moment because I can't work, can't surfing the web wirelessly and can't communicate with my friends.HI,

I found out that the problem with my wifi was my MBP received automatically a ridiculous IP such as 169.254.170.0 instead of 192.168.1.4 as it should be.
WIll be part of the Issue as will be DNS issues.
mDNSresponder crashed with Handsoff! v1.5.3. After upgrading Handsoff! to v2.0.2, it works again.
In this case mDNSresponder also being stopped will stop DNS working.
I would guess if you have resolved these that you can Chat to people again.

I have set up an od replica in another geographic location. Both servers involved are lion 10.7.4. Everything seemed to go well however I am able to add users to the replica through the server app, and configure network accounts with home directories that exist on the replica... set up filesharing on the replica.. is this the way things are supposed to work? I am in a distributed environment where some services would be better served from one server ie., ical, ichat and others better served per server ie., home directories, filesharing, wikis.... I am concerned however as the small bit of literature I have found suggests that the od database should be read only on the replica.
I am having a hard time finding any documentation on just how this is supposed to behave and how it is supposed to be configured beyond the initial "make this server a replica" stage. If there is any one out there that could shed some light on this or point me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated.
ThanksActually, there seems to be nothing that I cannot do yet. I have added users, user groups, computers, computer groups, configured mobile accounts, successfully logged in ALL from the replica and I see all of this reflected in the wgm of the master. My intention is to do this with several more servers, all being replicas of one od master. I have read however that all od user modifications, save password changes can only be done from the master, and that the copies on the replicas are read only however I am not encountering that. I cannot find definitive information on the intracacies of configuring a replica(s) and would like some direction so that I may be confident that I am doing it correctly before I involve myself too deeply. For instance, if I am making a fatal mistake by configuring the way that I am I would like to know however I find it perplexing as to why, if one is not supposed to modify the OD from the replica, I am able to do so...

Graphic problem with OSX Lion - freezing all windows
I try to define my graphic problem with OSX Lion. Simply if you have set for example hot cornes and switch between desktop, all windows etc. the move of switchng windows i chopping and freezing. I dont idea why, but it hapennig since I installed Windows 7 via bootcamp. But the problem is still here after I remove Windows. Cleaning cash doesnt work. Can anybody help me please?
No, it's not Lion. It may be something you installed. If you just bought it you could also take it back to the Apple Store and they may be able to help.

The code works when I remove the reference to the variables "username" & "password" in Connection "conn" call & replace them with the actual username & password, but this is not exactly what I was after. I was hoping to make the program responsive to each individual user, not set in code.
I also would like to make the program pause after the call in "main" to "PassDB" to wait for "PassDB" to exit before continuing.
I would also like to make "PassDB" destroy itself after the "OK" button is pressed & the "username" & "password" set.
If that isn't enough for you, I would really like the program to search 2 different database tables, return their values & compare them to be sure that they are the same.

Problems setting up an NFS server

I just completed my first arch install. :-)
I have a desktop and a laptop, and I installed Arch on the desktop (the laptop runs Ubuntu 9.10). I had a few difficulties here and there, but I now have the system up and running, and I'm very happy.
I have a problem setting up an NFS server. With Ubuntu everything was working, so I'm assuming that the Ubuntu machine (client) is set-up correctly. I'm trying to troubleshoot the arch box (server) now.

Now, I have these problems:

I realized that even though both machines had the same group, my Ubuntu machine (client) group has GID 1000, while the Arch one has GID 1001. I created a group that has GID 1001 on the client, and now everything is working.
I'm wondering why my Arch username and group both have 1001 rather than 1000 (which I suppose would be the default number for the first user created).

Problems setting up static routing

I'm having a problem setting up static routing. I keep getting the message "invalid static route". I have an E1550 router and my frimware is up to date. I have tried a few different gateway addresses ie 192.168.1.1, 127.0.0.1 and my router's address on the net, but I keep getting the same message. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it?I think the E1550 router supports LAN to LAN routing provided that you have two local networks. If you only have a plain modem and the E1550, I believe you can't do Static routing on that type of setup. Problems Setting Up Developer Users
I am having a problem setting up developer users and I am trying to determine if I am missing a step or if there is a configuration problem on my staging and production systems.
What I want to do should be very simple. I want to create a user that can create an application and see the information under the "Application" tab in the Navigator.
I have created the user using the following steps on 3.0.9.82 for Unix:
1. Create the user
2. Make the user a full administrator (rather than end user)
3. Make the user a member of the portal_developers group
4. Make the user's default group the portal_developers group
However, when I do this the user does not see the information under the
"Application" tab. The only way I can get the user to see the info under the
"Application" tab is to make him a member of the Portal_administrators
and/or DBA group. Both my staging and production boxes have the same result.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on what might be happening?Thank you- I have read through that thread and can see some resonance with my issue.
My AOL emails work VERY fast with BB, in fact almost simultaneously received on PC & Torch " ping ping!"
This issue only raised its ugly head when I had 2 Torches replaced by my insurers.
Whilst the claim was in process I used a new Curve, loaded from backup on PC to keep emails going and of course phone & web facilities. ( I use the BB to power internet via bluetooth to my PC / laptop when living on a remote island with no phone lines or power supplies) All was fine. Swapping email accounts took a few minutes with the usual password confirmations for each AOL screenname etc.
Then the new Torches came back from insurers, and I tried to swap devices. Phoning & texting is fine. Al data and contacts swap over fine.
SETUP email accounts.............stymied every time. It says repeatedly that my user name/password is invalid etc etc etc
Have tried security wipes. Have tried setting up new BB ID & passwords on PC website. All is OK until I try to setup emails on the Torches. This has used up ridiculous amounts of time- all wasted.
I love the BB phones and the fast email push......in fact I recently bought a new Sony Xperia Z1 but sent it back because of wifi coverage meant no emails on that superb phone for lots of the time.
Good old BB I said..........I always get emails wherever I am. ( Rural Scotland has very patchy radio & wifi coverage)
Was about to purchase new Z10s just to get a bigger screen, but now I am averse to buying ANY BB phone again because this present mess means I may never get emails set up again. How nuts is that?

Problems setting up VVSA 6.0 (lookup service adresse)
Hi,
I was happy to see VVSA 6.0 released, but i'm having problems setting it up. It keeps saying that the lookup service adresse is not reachable. But I have tried with the VVSA 5.5 and 5.5.1.1 and they work just fine with the lookup service adresse.
Anyone else having this issue?
Also trying to check for updates within the appliance failes since the repository is not online at vmware it seems.
Might not be ready for primetime (like ESXi6).If Developer has a separate Oracle Home on your PC, then it has a separate TNSNAMES.ORA file that is uses to connect to the database. If you search for all tnsnames.ora files, you should find the one used by Developer 6.
Since Enterprise manager works, the tnsnames.ora in your Enterprise Manager's home will have an entry for your server database. You should be able to cut and paste this into the tnsnames.ora file used by Developer, or try copying the E.M. tnsnames.ora file directly.

I recently downloaded mysql Connector for my project.
However, I have problems setting it up.
When I run my program, It gives me a class not defined error.

I have put the jar file of the JDBC Bridge in a folder
C:\Drivers\Sql Connector
I have also added the absolute path of the jar to the system classpath
The value put in is:
C:\Drivers\Sql Connector\mysql-connector-java-3.1.10-bin.jar.
I am not sure what the problem is because I was told by the API that this was all I needed to do. Are there any other files I need to include with the jar file? Also, Is there a specific folder I must put it in?

Have recently got a blackberry 9300 and having problems setting up my aol email account.

Problems Setting up my wireless network with an Xb...
Hi, I have had some problems setting up my wireless networking.
I have everything switched on and am able to go online with the laptop and the Xbox with no problems but when I try to share media with the xbox I have problems.
I have opened the ports specified in the setup from xbox on windows firewall and have no problem connection Via Ethernet cable but when using wireless the xbox cannot detect the laptop.
I have checked the network map and both xbox and laptop are connected and have enabled sharing and am running sharing software.
Below is the network map.
I have also been having problems with BT software, the free virus protection will not install, The desktop help will not launch although it shows up on task manager and the installation disk does not launch correctly it doesn't get past the loading screen.
I have had a printer on the wireless network and had no problems printing.
If anyone knows how to resolve this please help.I have this same Motorola modem and I just verified that my 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can get Internet access with this modem without any issues.
When changing ISPs (or networking equipment) it's always a good idea to start from "scratch" in configuring your equipment.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.
