Problem setting up smtp mail out .

Hi all you good people .
I am having a problem setting up the mail program . I'm using mail two under os-x leopard 10.5.7 . I have the pop mail working fine , but for some reason or another it wont send the mail out . I remember I got it working before , but it was a pain in the butt to do . So I ma forced to use Microsoft Entourage for my mail receiving and sending . I think Microsoft Takes more skill to use than the apple mail program .
I would love for someone to help me solve this . My mail server is from time warner . I use there High speed internet for my mail access .
P.S Roadrunner .

Hi,
I assume you are using Mail 3.6, and not "mail two"?
What Authentication are you using on this SMTP? If not already, try using None, and removing Password and Username from SMTP setup for at least one test. Most Roadrunner SMTP are authenticated by reference to the IP address of your Modem, and using a separate authentication of the SMTP results in failure.
Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information, then click on the arrows beside the name of the SMTP in the section on Outgoing Server. After you click on the arrows, choose Edit Server List. Then if the SMTP is set up with the correct name, etc, click on the Advance Tab, use Custom Port with Port 25, None as authentication, and do not enter any Username and Password. Under authentication of None, the name of the SMTP will not have your Username appended. This is the equivalent, after having previously done the set up, to those email clients with a setting to use the info of the Incoming for authentication.
Let us know, but Roadrunner can vary from area to area on this, but this is the way it seems to always work.

  • Problem setting up Yahoo Mail Plus

I am in the process of transitioning from Entourage to Apple Mail. I have successfully imported all of the mail from Entourage and have successfully set up my Gmail account in Mail. I am trying to set up my Yahoo Plus account (POP3) but when I get to the Outbound Mail Server screen, set up gets stuck.
I put in all of the smtp information along with my ID and password and I set the SSL and proper port check boxes that matches the Entourage account information but I just get a spinning gear and a message that Mail is trying to contact to the server but it never does.
I spent about an hour in a chat session with Yahoo tech support last night. They checked all of my settings and checked my account access via telnet and verified that everything is working fine. They have escalated this within their support organization but so far I have not heard anything from them.
The strange thing is that my Blackberry is sending and receiving my Yahoo mail without any problems and it was working fine with Entourage. I turned off the Entourage syncing to make sure the two desktop apps weren't hitting up against each other but that made no difference.
Has anyone else run into this issue and/or any suggestions on where to look next for a solution?
    Thanks,
    David

  • Problems setting up my mail.

Just today I bought a new MacBook Pro. I am completely new to Mac computers, and while trying to set up the email ran into some difficulties. I can receive emails, but cannot send them. When attempting to send an email the following error message appears, "Cannot send message using the server promail.ptd.net." This is the same server in place for receiving mail. I have checked the email providers website for their instructions, and this is the server we should use for outgoing mail. I am running Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

You may have already done this, but if you are using Apple's Mail program, setting up the outgoing mail server is not as simple as it first appears. In Mail's Preferences, the Outgoing Server dropdown list includes, as the last item, "Edit Server List". If you select this, you will have more boxes to fill in according to your ISP's requirements for account information and, under the Advanced tab, authentication. In my experience, when outgoing mail is repeatedly rejected, it is usually an authentication problem.

  • TS3988 Problem setting up e-mail on Mac, iPad and iPhone

I am having a major problem with my e-mai @me.com
    1) I have a Mac running Mountain Lion;
    2) The new iPad all up to date
    3) An iPhone 4 also up to date.
iCloud e-mail on the web works perfectly, sending and receiving.
On my Mac, I was able to configure as an IMAP account, but not using the standard settings provided by OS
Both iPad and iPhone, while using the same and only Apple ID I have, do not recognize the default e-mail server.
Notes only work between iPad and iPhone. Notes on Mac never worked since installation. It says it cannot be setup at the moment and ask to do it later... and has been doing that in the last 15 days...
    What should I do?

GOing by what others have posted, hotmail seems to be having issues. There may be not much for you do to but to wait it out. You can always try removing and then readding your account info.

  • Setting up SMTP mail in BW for Information Broadcasting

Dirk Herzog: I am trying to configure SMTP for sending web query results as an e-mail to external internet addresses. I have read through all the HELP.SAP.COM documentation but we are confused by the configuration for SMTP server in transaction SICF and SAPConnect settings in transaction SCOT. What is the SAP Mail Host and Mail Port that we use when configuring the SMTP node in trans SCOT?
The HOST data tab of SICF's SAPConncect virtual host doesn't give this information. As well, the Service Data tab on SAPConncect virtual host in SICF is confusing. Do we have to fill in the Anonymous Logon Data in order to send mail externally to the Internet?
I apologize in advance if my questions are not clear. Since you just recently got Info Broadcasting working, you may understand the common hurdles we are having.
    thanks and regards, David

The mail server also needs to be setup to allow mail relaying from a system other than itself - or at least our Microsoft Exchange server did.

  • Problems setting up e-mail in a new user account

I have had my Mac Pro for a couple of months and have accessed all my family's e-mail from my administrator login.
I have just created a user login for my wife and have transferred her mail account settings into her user account. Unfortunately though, when I attempt to retrieve her e-mail I get a 'password not recognised' or 'pop account unrecognisable' message. I have checked and double-checked the e-mail account settings; they are correct.
I am still able to receive her e-mails when using my login.
    Any ideas??
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    1. If you haven't tried this already, just delete the user account entirely, and then try setting it up again.
    2. To find the permissions file:
         a. hold down the option key
         b. go to the Go menu in the finder
         c. scroll down to Library and open it
         d. in Library, go to Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences
         e. drag it to the trash and restart.
    3. if that doesn't work, go to Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access. In the Keychain Access menu, do Keychain First Aid, and repair.
This should keep you busy for a while.

  • Problem setting up new mail account

I think when I got my macbook about 3 years ago I must have tried to set up an account for the 'mail' application. I no-longer remember wither my user-name or my password. When I open the app it comes up with a window explaining that I will be given guide-lines on how to create a new account, however, no guidelines are given and it just wants me to enter my use name and password, which it then does not recognise (it seems to therefore assume that I already have an account rather than helps me to set one up). The ending of the user-name is already written in (and is unalterable, as it's outide the bit I type in) and is "@mac.com" even though my Apple ID ends in "@mac.co.uk" (as I am from the UK) - should any of the details for my mail account be the same as my Apple ID?
Would be grateful for some help!

Hi amiaba, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I can't quite tell what it's doing, but open Keychain Access in Applications>Utilities, click on your Keychain on the left, put .mac in the search bar, once you find it, double click on it and click show password.
If you have no mail in there try this with Mail quit.
Drag this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Start Mail & see if it steps you through it.
Not sure on the .uk thing, but is Date & Time>Time Zone set to the UK?

  • Problems setting a forward mail address

    Hi
On my mailserver I has my domain hosted as an virtual domain (have some others there too)
I have used workgroup manager to setup the user primary email on the virtual domain and everything works nice.
But, I want that mail on that account to be forwardet to my gmail account too, so I tried to edit the "/etc/postfix/virtual" on my server, and it worked fine, until I should add another user on the same virtual domain.
The mail for user 2 never came to the mailbox, so I checked the mail server logs, saying it rejected the mail for user2 because the mail was not in the "/etc/postfix/virtual" file.
I alsa got an warning saying I should not virtual alias and virtual mailboxes at the same time.
Can anyone help me configuring the forward right?

    Hello,
I have exactly the same problem with Windows 2008R2 with P2000 and now on WIndows 2012 R2 with MSA2040 and 10Gbe interfaces.
On the W2K12R2 infra, I had been able to force my both path to optimized one time(I don't remember how :( ) and I saw the traffic load balanced beetween my both interfaces. But, after rebooting, my configuration wasn't kept and I had 1 optimized and the second
non-optimized. Like all my other servers connected to the same NAS.
For information my configuration is: HP MSA2040 SAN with 2 DAC connected (1 from controller A and the second from controller B) to SFP+ card on the server.
    It has working temporaly.
Did anyone find an answer since 2012 ?
    Thanks in advance. Best regards.

Having problems trying to send mail after setting up the account exactly as Thunderbird. SMTP.ATT.YAHOO.COM as outgoing and pop.att.yahoo.com as incoming.
I've tried everything but can not send mail.
Also, where is the stationary that can be sent out in the emails?
    Thanks!

I was having the same problem. I finally found that when setting up the account do not check the box for Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and do not check Use Authentication. Tha did it for me.

  • Setting up a mail client and the outgoing SMTP set...

If you switch to BT and you already have email accounts set up in a mail client such as Mac Mail, you will not find any help from BT to set up correct outgoing SMTP mail server settings. Most other ISP's are usually very helpful with this but BT have a policy that is designed to make things very difficult to use anything but a BT email account. They claim that it is "To protect our email server from abuse by spammers". However, the solution to this has potentially quite the opposite effect as you will not be able to enable SSL for it to work!!
OK so the first thing to do is create a new 'MY BT' account and then go to 'email' and create a new BT email account. Keep a note of address and password as you will need this later.
Go back to the main BT home page and click on mail. You should land on a page that has the new 'BT Mail Account' in the left column and above a purple tool bar with 'Settings at the end. Click on 'Settings'.
In the left column, underneath 'Mail' click on 'Accounts'
Click 'Add' and fill in the details of your 3rd party (Non BT) account. They encourage IMAP only but I used 'POP" with no problems as I have no intention of using the BT mail client.
In 'Mail settings' fill out the mail server details from your email provider or where your site is actually hosted. For example if you are using 000webhost.com then they will advise 'mx.000webhost.com' or may be 'mail.yourwebsitename'
The correct port to enter is the port listed in your web client. For me with Mac Mail then this is listed in preferences and if you check this then also double check that use SSL is NOT checked
Enter the email user name and password of your 3rd party account
Make sure in 'Security' that 'Requires SSL' is NOT checked
    Then save the account
Click on the 'Email' link in the purple tool bar and there now under the 'BT Mail Account' should be your 3rd party account. Click on it and it should now load your email. If it doesn't then you will have to try again the steps above as there is no point in going any further if the BT client cannot access your account.
OK if it is working then go to your email client (Mac Mail in my case) and in preference set up your 3rd party account as follows.
Incoming mail server is as the info from your host ( like as in 'mx.000webhost.com' above). Enter user name and password for the 3rd party account.
Now set up an Outgoing mail server (SMPT). I just called it BT with the server name 'mail.btinternet.com'. In the advance section click use default ports. It actually uses 465 if you do not have a default option.
    Do NOT enable SSL
    Set Authentication to 'Password'
Then in user name enter the details of the NEW BT account you opened for user name and password.
And that's it. Well it works for me! I got no assistance whatsoever from BT in trying to solve this. I asked to cancel my new BT infinity service after only 5 days when it proved so difficult to get an email client like mac mail to work. I had 4 calls from them and even the 'Tech Experts' had no idea what I was talking to them about!

    Melski wrote:
Ah yes Thank you Oliver that is a better solution. However all the settings in the BT client have to remain as no SSL. If you change to use SSL there you will not be able access the 3rd party email account.
Your email client cannot handle SSL for SMTP (BT) and non-SSL for POP3 (000webhost)?
    Oliver.

  • Problems setting up email client (Mac Mail) with BC hosted emails

This issue has me tearing my hair out! My client wanted to take advantage of the 10 emails addresses with WebBasics. Very simple to sort out and the emails are all happily available with mail going in and out through the WebMail interface. Brilliant.
However my client wanted to be able to access her emails through Mac Mail. And I cannot get the outgoing mail to work.
I have followed instructions to the letter, and I can get emails to come in but when I try to send it simply states that the stmp.clientsdomain.com say's it's offline.
I have tried using alternative ports, also using the ISP outgoing mail setting with no luck.
My main issue after speaking to the livechat guys at BC and using Factsheets, is the information on them (screenshots etc) just does not reflect Mac Mail, I admit that I am probably using a later / earlier version but the differences seemt o be huge. For instance, I keep being told that I need to UNTICK the SSL box during configuration. But my version of Mac Mail, doesn't give me the option to tick or untick at any point, it does however throw up a warning message saying that my client's domain is invalid inscure but I can carry on. Similarly when I look at the Account Summary on the FactSheet it says that it should show "SSL:OFF" but when I follow the instructions it states "SSL:ON" . I have gone into preferences afterwards to untick SSL but it still does not work.
    Anyone have an answer?

    Hi Peter,
I'm afraid not, I turned to Apple support forums, followed their advice for troubleshooting Mac Mail (obviously not relevant to you using Outlook) but It involved scanning ports checking firewalls etc, all of this was clear and I just cannot see the problem.
I even got one of the Livechat BC guys to look into it, by setting up a dummy email address on the client's account, I think he was rather intrigued, but I'm not sure he's had much luck as he still hasn't got back to and that was over 20 hours ago.
Can your client receive emails? I can only get my client's account receiving emails, when I try to send an email I just keep receiving an message telling me that it cannot connect to smtp!
According to the BC fact sheet for sending and receiving emails: "By Default, email software will set the SMTP port to 25, which is the standard port for the smtp protocol. However our mail service has two alternative ports available that you can send through. 8025 or 587.
However it's not blocked and those port settings didn't work either.
The Apple fact sheet made mention to firewall settings possibly also blocking, but it's not relevant to me using my version of OS.
Good luck, and please repost if you get any further.
I am now just looking for a reason that my client's mail WONT work on Mac Mail, just so I can sound professional when I tell them the answer is "no".

  • Problems setting up Mail to Exchange

    Hey everyone,
Having a few problems setting up mail to exchange on a Nokia 5800.
We have the latest version of Mail to Exchange installed.
    Were using Microsoft Exchange 2007.
Example serup of what we have done:
Mail to exchange - New profile - Input Username and Password of domain account - Input domain name - Chose Internet as means of connection -
The Nokia goes off and searches for the domain information, finds it OK. Shows a message regarding a server certificate, we chose to install this certificate this time only.
    Phone crashes?
    Any ideas whats going on?
    Thansk

    Hi Jim,
Depending on the customer feedback, it works fine. Apple Mail the client that comes with OSX supports standard protocols (POP3, IMAP, SMTP), these are all supported by Exchange 2010.
If you're running Mac OS 10.4 Tiger or Mac OS 10.5 Leopard, you can still use the Mac Mail App to connect to your account. However, you need to connect to your account without using IMAP or POP.
If you're running Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard or Mac OS 10.7 Lion, you can use the Mail program included with those releases to connect to your email account automatically using an Exchange account.
When you use Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard or Mac OS 10.7 Lion and connect using an Exchange account, you can use features that aren't available to users who connect through IMAP or POP, including iCal and Address Book.

Some SMTP servers require a username and password authentication before you
can use their Server for Sending mail. This is most common with couple
of ISP's who provide SMTP Address to Send Mail.
This Program gives any example on how to do SMTP Authentication
    (User and Password verification)
This is a free source code and is provided as it is without any warranties and
it can be used in any your code for free.

  • Setting the smpt port out wil .mac mail

Maybe I'm not getting this, but I want to set the send mail port on my iPhone that is using my .mac account. I looked at the instructions for doing this and go to Setting -> Mail, but I cannot find where to put in the smtp.mac.com:258 or whatever port I'm using. Can some one walk me through where I put this in?
Or do I set up the .mac mail as an "Other" mail account?

Actually, I do need to set my smtp, as my ISP provider will only allow mail out on a specific port, and the .mac preference does not include that port.
