Problem setting up Wireless with WAP54G

I am having trouble setting up my wireless network with my WAP54G access point. I have used this same router successfully before but now on my new network it gives me trouble.
I did a reset on my Access Point, Then the default setting is with a static IP address. I can just connect with the access point (wireless) with no problem. But when connected to the modem it doesn't give me internet...
Reading the manual of the modem it tells me that any router connected to the modem should be set to DHCP. So when I put the settings on my access point to DHCP (and change them on the network settings of my laptop) I cannot connect with the Accesspoint anymore..
Can anyone help me? am I just doing something stupid here?

Hi sdedmer. What is the make and model of your modem? Is it a modem-router-in-one or a gateway? If so, you may need to enable the DHCP of the device so it can provide IP addresses for multiple devices to connect wirelessly. The WAG54G is an access point. It can only provide wireless and Internet access to one device at a time. For this, you may need to purchase a wireless router if you want to connect multiple devices (wired or wireless) and extend the wireless range using the WAG54G.

  • Problem setting up WDS with MSI RG54GS2 & Motorola WR850g

Problem setting up WDS with WR850g & MSI RG54GS2
    Hi,
    I'm trying to bridge 2 routers: Motorola WR850g & MSI RG54GS2 .
I set the MSI as the main router (it works better for me as a router than the Moto), and the Moto is the repeater. I have set it up exactly as the guide on Broadbandreports.com for the Motorola , and on Tom's Networking http://www.tomsnetworking.com/2004/04/14/how_to_wds_bridge/
The Moto sees the MAC of the MSI (Status is UP), the MSI doesn't have a page that shows WDS MACs . I know the routers are connected because when I connect a laptop to the Moto wireless network, it gets an IP (and the DHCP on the Moto is disabled) and the default gateway of the connection is the IP of the main (MSI) router.
The problem is I can't surf anywhere. I can't even ping the MSI router - which should be possible if the WDS works properly. The Moto Wireless Bridge Operation is set properly to Access Point/Wireless Bridge .
    Can anyone solve this?
    Thanks.

    David, welcome to the discussions.
Are you refering to Airport Extreme Setup as the Extreme base.
Or are you using a 3rd party Router as your primary Base, or the Express as the primary base.
Read the supplied link, Not all 3rd party routers are WDS compatible.

  • Problem setting up wireless

l set up wireless with a router supplied by my ISP which worked fine until l put the computer to sleep. When woken from sleep there was no internet connection.
If l shut down the computer and restart it, the internet connection is still there, so it's obviously a 'sleep' problem.
l have a relative who knows about computers, albeit PC's, set it up again and it was okay 'til woken from sleep. Thinking it might be the router l purchased a Time capsule, same thing happens.
    l have a iMac 10.6.8
    Any ideas what's causing this?
    Looie.

It's okay, problem solved. Got in touch with Apple support for a second time and they've managed to get to the route of the problem. Took about an hour, but TC up and running and no problem with the 'sleep' issue.
Not something l could have managed on my own, so a big thumbs up for apple support on this ocassion.

  • Problems setting up WNA with OAS 10.1.2.0.2 and Windows 2008

    Hi,
I am trying to set up WNA with an OAS 10.1.2.0.2 in a RHEL 4 platform. I have been able to configure Synchronization and Windows External Authentication following these steps:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/idmanage.1012/b14085/odip_actdir003.htm#i1010999
I have also tried to configure WNA without success with those steps.
    The scenario is here:
    * OAS 10.1.2.0.2 infra in a RHEL 4
    * Windows 2008 SP1 (only i use AD from it)
    * Windows XP (client) that should be able to log in without problems when WNA is configured
How can make it work? I haven´t find any useful documentation

  • Problems setting up wireless printing

I can set up to print from my laptop with a USB connection to the printer. I want to be able to print when away from my desk, so have tried for 2 years, on and off, to get my printer to print wirelessly. I've probably spent 10+ hours trying to get this set up. In the end, I always end up having to reinstall the printer with the same old USB connection.
This is driving me crazy. I'm a tech writer for a software company and am very computer savvy. Yet my non-techie family members have all managed to set up wireless printing at their homes in 5 minutes or less with different brands of printers.
Here are the steps I'm following, though I have also tried numerous variations, such as trying it with my USB cable connected vs. disconnected.
    1) Uninstall current (USB) printer installation.
    2) On the printer itself, verify that Settings > Network Settings are at the defaults.
    3) Using most recent drivers and installation .exe from the HP website, start a new printer installation.
    4) When prompted, select "wireless installation."
RESULT: Even though my firewall is OFF, it searches and says there are no printers on the network. (Huh? What network?)
    5) Try again, and this time select "network installation."
RESULT: Even though my firewall is OFF, it searches and says it can't detect a network.
If wireless installation requires a network, but network installation does not cause a network to be installed, I'm not sure where to go from here.
    6) I've also tried downloading and installing the ePrint utility, but when I get midway through the installation, it tells me it can't find my printer.
I'm suspicious that my model M1212nf MFP may not even allow wireless printing. Some info on the HP website says to check that a particular button lights up to show the printer is online. This light doesn't exist on my printer model. On the other hand, my physical printer's settings has settings like: "display IP address," etc., that would lead me to believe that it can operate wirelessly.
I have read all of the related HP printer help, and there is nothing that explains in simple language what types of cables I need to set up a network and/or wireless connection, when to plug them in, which installations to perform out of the many add-ons available, etc. I am sure this is a 5 minute process if there was just some good explanation in the UP help of how to do it. Assistance would be appreciated!
    This question was solved.

    Hello @SKYdiz,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you have had issues for the last 2 or so years and spent multiple hours attempting to configure your HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer for wireless printing. At this point I'm going to offer some additional information on this matter. First, are you sitting down?
Unfortunately, the HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer is NOT a wireless model printer. The 'nf' at the end of the printer name stands for 'network, fax'. Therefore, while your printer is not wirelessly capable of connecting to your router, it CAN connect with an ethernet cable.
All you need to do is connect an ethernet cable from the rear of your printer into your router. Than any devices connected to that same router (either through wireless or wired ethernet connections) would be able to 'see' your printer on the network and print to your printer. For more information regarding the ethernet setup on your printer, please refer to: Setting Up the Printer for a Wired Network in Windows 7 for the HP LaserJet Printers.
Now if an ethernet connection does not work in your specific network configuration, than HP does manufacture other Laserjet models that do use the wireless feature. Here are two Laserjets that are black only, multifunction wireless units that are similar to your current model printer : HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw and HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw.
Please let me know if this clears up any confusion. Should you have any other questions or concerns I will be more than happy to assist you. Happy New Year!

  • Problems setting up WDS with AE

I recently had some problems with my home network and performed a hard reset on both of my AE base stations in order to reconfigure the network. I am trying to set up a WDS network with the two AE's (one being connected to the internet and the other serving as a remote to extend the range and use AirTunes function). When using Airport Utility and going through the setup process, I set up the primary AE with the connection to the internet. I am then using Airport Utility to try and configure the second AE to join the main network, but AU is not allowing the remote AE to connect/join the primary network. I keep getting an error message saying that the Apple wireless device could not join the WDS network and that I should close Airport Utility and try again. I have tried this a number of times, as well as performing more hard resets of both AE's and nothing seems to be working - any suggestions??
This is the first time I have ever had this problem using AU. In past versions of the program this has always worked setting up the network automatically, but does not seem to be working this time. Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    JB

  • Setting up wireless with Canon M980

Please help! The printer works on USB, but not wireless. I'm using a 'Be box' router and the computer confirms that a LAN network is established. I've pinged with 100% and I've reset the printing system on the mac. The problem is that the print/fax system preference doesn't show M980 wireless (only USB). Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
From reading your post it sounds like you have the Ethernet configured but not the wireless. Unless you meant that you were able to ping the wireless IP address and get 100% returned, in which case you can skip section.
But in case it was the Ethernet address that you were pinging successfully, then read on.
The MP980 cannot have both Ethernet and wireless enabled at the same time. Via the machines Settings view (the pliers and screwdriver icon), scroll to Device Settings and press OK. Then scroll down to LAN settings and press OK. The first menu is Change wireless/wired, press OK to enter and have a look at the which setting is highlighted. You want to ensure that Wireless LAN active is highlighted. Scroll to change this if necessary and then press OK to activate.
Now, while you are still in Device Settings, scroll down to Wireless LAN setting list and press OK. This will show you if the connection is Active and what IP address is currently set in the 980. If the correct IP address is set, then we can add the printer queue. If the IP address is not set, then you need to connect to the printer via USB and open the Canon IJ Utility to configure the network settings.
With the wireless network settings correctly set in the machine, turn off the power to the machine and disconnect the USB printer cable if connected. With the power back on to the MP980, you can select to add the printer queue but you have to select More Printers > Canon IJ Network. This should display the wireless MP980 with its MAC address enclosed with brackets, such as (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx). Select this and click Add. This will complete the wireless printer queue creation.
Hope this helps you. Please reply if it doesn't.

  • Set up wireless with Airport Express and PC

i have ditched my cable/internet provider and use a service that brings the internet right to my apartment . I can access it with an ethernet cord.  Airport Express was recommended even after I said I had a PC. I  downloaded the airport utility. This where I am confused. I used one cord to plug the airport device to the wall where th internet  comes in from. I used another ethernet cord between the AE device and my computer. i then went through the set up without a problem. When I unplug the cord between my computer and AE device my computer does not connect wirelessly. It does see other networks. When everything was plugged in i walked through the set up without any problems. Did I do something wrong with the cord set up?
Previously the computer had no problem with wireless access.

Typically when you get Internet from a wall socket there is either a modem or modem/router combination upstream of it that is providing the Internet service. In this case you will want to configure your AirPort Express as a bridge. Is this what you did?

  • Problems setting up Tomcat with RoboHelp Server V8

    Hi,
My Systems Administrator is trying to set up RoboHelp Server version 8 for me. he has been following the Adobe Installation guide and has got as far as page 10 where it tells him to install and configure IIS and TomCat, at this point he says he does not understand what he should be doing. He has not installed TomCat before and it is telling him to configure the tomcat directory and although he has tried using what it says it comes up with an error the directory does not exist.
    He is using:
    Windows 2008 Server Standard
    IIS 7.0
    TomCat 6.0.20
SQL Server 2008 express SP1 - this is the latest version the adobe instructions says RooHelp Server works with SQL Server 2008 but does not mention express not sure if that could be a problem?
    MS Report Viewer 2008 SP1
    Java V6 Update 12
He says the installation guide talks about a directory with Win32 in it which does not appear on his machine its a 64 bit machine.
Please can someone give me some instructions on how to set up the TomCat part - I have looked but the troubleshooting that adobe has does not seem to be for Windows 2008 only Vista and XP and even then it says nothing about setting up TomCat
    Thanks in advance

I was able to setup the email with Outlook, but every time I try to setup the contacts.  I get the following error:

This error does not occur immediately, but occurs after several steps of downloading and uploading.

  • Problem setting up wrt54g with windows 7

Upgraded Vista to Window 7 and I cant connect to internet through the wrt54g.  I have cable internet service. I think this is the problem: I access the router settings, under the STATUS tab the IP is 0.0.0.0  The bottom of the page does NOT have an IP RELEASE button as the manual says it should.  It says H### something RELEASE (I forgot to write down exactly what it says)  In summary I CAN access the router wireless but it wont let me access the internet.  Any Help?

You are able to connect to the wireless network.
The Internet IP address on the status page is 0.0.0.0.  That means the router is not getting IP address from the modem.
Connect the computer directly to the modem with the Ethernet cable. Make sure that you can access the Internet through the modem.
If you are able to access the Internet through the modem then Internet is working fine on the modem.
Connect the modem to the Internet port and computer to Ethernet port 1 on the router.
Open the setup page of the router. Click on MAC address Clone sub tab. Enable it and click on Clone my PC's MAC. Save the settings.
Unplug the power to the router and modem. First plug in the power to the modem. Wait for 1 minute and then plug in the power to the router. Wait for a minute and then try to access the Internet on your computer.
Once you are able to access the Internet with the wired connection to the router, try to connect to the wireless network. See if that works.

  • Problems setting Inhibit Outputs with UMI

I am using a 3rd party stepper drive with a PCI7334 and 7764 UMI. The Step, Dir and Enable inputs on the drive are opto isolated. I have tied the -ve terminal of each to Ground and the +ve terminal to +5V though a 390ohm resistor and to the corresponding connection on the UMI.
I setup the axes inhibit output in software to be Inverting, the switch on the UMI is set to Active Low inhibit outputs and the Drives are Active closed (need to have a potential difference across them to be enabled).
My third axis must be enabled the opposite way around. But when i set it up in software to be Non-inverting, it doesn't change on the UMI. why would this be so?
Can you have one axis with its inhibit output active low, and another axis with it
    s inhibit output active high?
Also, Do i need to pull the inhibit outputs high?
Your help will be much appreciated.

    To whom it may concern:
Yes, you can have one axis with its inhibit output active low and another axis set to active high. You need to go into MAX under the Device Settings and expand the tree entitled Axis Settings. With the corresponding axis selected in the tree, you can set the inhibit output to active high or low. If you don't expand the tree under Axis Settings then whatever you set the inhibit output polarity to will apply to all axes on the board. That might be part of your problem.
That inhibit output shouldn't need to be pulled high. That would be handled internally to the board.
Hopefully that is help to you. Best of luck with things.

    Hi SilverRoseJewls,
Thank you for joining the HP Support community.  I understand that you would like to setup your Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw printer to be able to use it with your Chromebook.
Chromebooks don't use full feature drivers due to its design. Please use the printer's wireless direct feature so you can connect to the printer from your Chromebook. Once you have connected to the printer's wireless direct network you can follow the steps in Jon-W's post to connect the printer to your home wireless network.
Once the printer is setup wirelessly you can then setup Google Cloud print so you are able to print from your Chromebook.  I have included a document on how to set this up.

  • Problems setting up WDS with old AX and new AEBS

    Hi all,
after buying a new AEBS last week, I want to put my old AX back into service. Here's what I have planned:
The cable modem sits in the living room near my stereo. The AX should connect to the cable modem and the stereo and be the main station in a WDS network with the AEBS. The AEBS will be in my study as a remote station to the AX.
Sounds trivial, but apparently it isn't I have spent the evening setting up the two base stations again and again. For some reason, the Airport Utility cannot see both stations at once as soon as they are configured. The AEBS won't find the AX even though the MAC address is correct.
I tried with and without WPA/WPA2, but I cannot figure out what's wrong
Could someone please give me a step by step guide of what to do? I am quite desperate by now...
    Cheers from Switzerland
    Daniel

Well, what can I say... Of course, I could not give up
Finally I got it to work. For future reference, here's how:
I first set up the AEBS to create a network, then used the Wizard of the Airport Utilitiy to add the AX as a WDS-device (it sets up the whole WDS automatically). Then I flipped the settings - set the AX to be main and the AEBS to be the remote.
I also had to adapt the Internet-Settings. Both base stations were set to bridge-mode, which doesn't work in my case because I only get two IPs from my ISP. So, I set the AX (the main) to share an internet connection and get its IP by DHCP. The AEBS on the other hand needed to get an IP manually (outside of the address space of the DHCP server created by the AX, but within its subnet).
After that it all worked - even AirTunes The AEBS now sits on my desk and the AX provides internet from the living room.
    Cheers,
    Daniel

  • Problem setting up connection with 2wire USB adapter (BT Home Network 1200)

I keep on running into a brick wall setting up my internet connection on my newly purchased MacBook (I have never used a mac before, having used a PC for years). I am trying to set up my macbook as an additional computer on my BT Home Network 1200, and I have installed the drivers given on the 2wire CD, but even when I plug in the USB adapter, the Macbook does not seem to recognise it. The adapter looks something like this:
Anyway, the instructions given in the BT Home Network PDF manual seem to suggest that it is relatively straightforward, and that it is simply a matter of clicking the apple menu, selecting "control panels", selecting "TCP/IP", and then in the "connect via" box, clicking on the pulldown menu and selecting 2Wire PC Port. However, I am using 10.4.9 and it seems to me that this guide must have been written for an outdated version of Mac OS X because none of these instructions seem to make sense or work in the context of my macbook. At the moment, it seems like I won't be able to get my macbook online. Could someone please help explain to me how to get around this?

Any reference to 'Control Panels' will, indeed, be for Mac OS 9.x, the last version of which (9.2) was released in 2001.
My advice would be to return it to BT and ask them for an ethernet-based modem, not a USB one.
USB DSL modems have varying levels of support in Mac OS X ranging from poor to none. The fact that 2Wire doesn't include Mac OS X instructions implies that this model is at the lower end of that scale.
By comparison, an ethernet-based modem will connect to your Mac via ethernet, have the option of sharing the connection with multiple machines, typically be faster, and has an almost 100% compatibility rate.
