Have you ever had iDVD open?
Try this:
This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.

    Thank you for your insights.

    Hi
Most probably it's the Start-Up/Boot/Mac OS hard disk that has less than 5Gb free space.
To let iDVD run OK - This Start-up hard disk should have 25Gb or more due to that
Your Mac is running a sort of UNIX (Mac OS) and this makes Mac OS and iDVD to use
lot's of temp files - AND they can not be addressed to any other hard disk at all.
More RAM - will not help
External/Second hard disk will if You first formatte it as Mac OS Extended and
move material over to this (or use it as Start-up hard disk)
External Start-up hard disk must be FireWire - NO USB2 will do this.
Must be Mac OS Extended formatted
Western Digital - My Book Serie - Can't do this.
My Lacie - works gladly as secondary start-up hard disk.

  • How do i add a second movie to an idvd project when 'sharing' from imovie always opens a new idid window?

I am creating an idvd project with multiple imovie projects.  I know I need to share my imovie project with Idvd.  WEhen I do that, idvd automatically opens.  Now I want to add a second project.  The problem is that when I share imovie projects a second time, it automatically opens a second idvd project.  I want to add multiple imovie projects on one idvd project.

One should not share directly to iDVD from iMovie.  The Share ➙ Media Browser option should be used as that results in a better quality movie in iDVD.  Do the same for both movies and you can drag the movies from the Media ➙ Movies pane in iDVD into the DVD menu window at the left.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Sharing from iMovie and getting a total blank

Hi. I sort of have two questions. One that's bothered me ever since first fiddling around with iMovie and iDVD is why when I open a DVD project after having closed it before does it always give me a new name. The first one is project.dvdproj. The next is project 1.dvdproj. The next is project 2.dvdproj. How can I avoid this?
At the same time, though, if I make some changes in iMovie and want to send it to iDVD, do I need a new name each time? Can I set something to where it just automatically replaces the one that came before?
Now the main question. This new version of iDVD is so much harder for me to intuit. (And the help menus don't always help a whole lot, either.) A couple weeks ago I made an iMovie that needed no chapters, so when I "shared" it to iDVD, I had no "Play Movie" button or anything. I finally figured out that I had to add the movie seperately. (How is that "sharing" then?!) Currently I have an iMovie which I'm ready to make a DVD of. I shared it to iDVD and it gave me the "Play Movie" button, as well as the "Scene Selections" button. Great! But then I had to stop working and I wasn't happy with some of the submenus, so I decided to just quit without saving anything because I wanted to start from scratch. Now, when I try to go from iMovie to iDVD and "share" it, I'm getting a total blank. No "Play Movie" button, no "Scene Selections" button. I really don't want to have to put them in myself. Can someone please, please help?! I'm more than frustrated by all this. I just want to get the thing done.
Thank you for any help you can give!

    Hello, yvonne,
    Welcome to the discussions.
why when I open a DVD project after having closed it before does it always give me a new name. The first one is project.dvdproj. The next is project 1.dvdproj. The next is project 2.dvdproj. How can I avoid this?
iDVD will ask you to name a new project when you first create it. You need to be sure you 'save' it before closing it. Then, you should be able to open it by clicking on the project with the name you gave it. The DVD projects usually save to your 'documents' folder by default.
At the same time, though, if I make some changes in iMovie and want to send it to iDVD, do I need a new name each time? Can I set something to where it just automatically replaces the one that came before?
Once your movie is in a DVD project and then you make edits to the movie, you should receive a message when you open that iDVD project that iDVD has detected changes and it will ask if you want iDVD to update. You can then click yes/ok.
Currently I have an iMovie which I'm ready to make a DVD of. I shared it to iDVD and it gave me the "Play Movie" button, as well as the "Scene Selections" button. Great! But then I had to stop working and I wasn't happy with some of the submenus, so I decided to just quit without saving anything because I wanted to start from scratch. When you are finished with your current iMovie, make your chapter markers and then save and close your movie. Don't send it to iDVD from WITHIN iMovie.
Open iDVD and select your theme. Then, using the 'Media' tab, navigate to 'Movies' and select your movie and drag it into iDVD's main screen. Be sure not to drop it into a 'DROP ZONE.'
That may have been what you did when you did not get the title or scene selections. You do not need to create these yourself.

  • Slow motion problem publishing from imovie to idvd

The problem is with publishing a film to idvd from imovie. The slow motion clips "glitch up" when viewed on idvd but run smoothly when viewed on imovie. The visual of the slow motion clip pauses as the audio continues. The movie picks up as normal after the slow motion scene ends. There is another point in the movie where a non-slow motion scene does the same thing (visual pauses and audio continues) until the end of the entire movie. The glitch stops before the credits (which is not filmed fottage). How do I fix this?

hmmmm..I would double check the other clips. Other than that I am stumped. Maybe someone else will have some ideas.
Also, once you changed to 25%, you need to re-SHARE the video. (If you haven't already)

  • How do I burn 2 or more movies (shared from iMovies) into a single DVD

What is the easieast way? Can I do seperate titles for the movies, ie you can click on the movie you want to see?
    Thanks!

One way is to export each movie from iMovie as a separate QT movie file and add that file to an iDVD menu window, making sure to avoid any drop zones in the menu. That way each movie will have it's own play button.

  • Audio Synch Problem Exporting From imovie 6

I have a created a large imovie project in imovie 6 using pictures and imported video.  The project uses a lot of extracted audio voice overs on top of the photos.
While trying to export the video to quicktime or idvd, the audio gets out of synch at various points.  I have tried exporting it many times using a variety of different options, and the audio remains out of synch, sometimes in different places with each export.  Lastly, I have extracted the audio from the video clips for some of the more problematic portions of the project, but that has not proven successful.
The odd thing is that the movie plays perfectly while in imovie.
Any suggestions as to how to correct this issue?

    Hi
    Tedious situation.
To avoid this I'm kind of strict in Audio in two ways
    A
    • Material used if video is in same frame per minute - else I use JES_Deinterlacer to convert all to one standard. I use PAL = 25fps - one of my Cameras records ONLY in 30fps - (some people records in 24fps - to get a movie feel - I never)
So keeping the fps from Camera to (in my cases) DVD - gives a supperior result
    B
    • I'm strict in the kind of Audio formats I use - ONLY .aiff (or from miniDV tape Cameras) AND THEN 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (still .aiff as on normal CDs) and here 44.1kHz
If Camera is set to record in LP-mode or 12-bit Audio - Then I use an external Audio Editor to get this right
If from iTunes - I never use this directly - BUT - collect needed audio into a New PlayList - BURN THIS as a Standard Audio-CD (NO .mp3 - but .aiff here too) and then use the files on this CD in my movie project's in iMovie HD6 or FinalCut any varsion (or if forced to - iMovie'11)
    Else read this
    Audio Sync problems
    • 12.bit - should be 16.-bit (from miniDV tape - set Camera right)
Avoid recording in LP-mode on miniDV tape. This tape must be play-backed by same Camera. When Camera dies
so does the video material in worst case.
    • .mp3, .avi etc strange file formats - should be converted to .aiff 48kHz 16-bit
    • in iMovie (up to HD6) - do - Extract Audio - it most often helps
    • from iTunes - collect into a PlayList then Export out as an Audio-CD (not .mp3) and use the files on this (.aiff 44.1kHz)
    • There seems to be a problem with slow-down resp speed-up. Has to be in specific steps as 25% 50% 150% 200%
    else problems will arise
    • Audio problems when transitions is in use - especially iMovie HD/HD6
    a. Select video clips
    b. Extract Audio (Advance menu/Extract Audio)
    c. Now apply transition
    d. eventually fine-tune end and start of extracted audio clips

  • Problems converting from iMovie to iDVD

First of all, I'm new to this so I apologize if this is a ridiculous question.
I just spent days building a movie in iMovie, complete with photos and music. Because I couldn't figure out how to chop the songs to the lengths or starting positions I needed, I just used the volume control (click on the line and a yellow ball shows up and you can drag it down) to fade out songs as new ones were started. As a result, two songs are often playing at once but you can't hear one of them as I have that particular song turned down (which is good).
Problem: When I converted the movie to iDVD so I could burn it, the volumes were all back up and the songs play at once.
    HELP!
    Thank you.

    Hi S
Go back to Your iMovie project.
Play it. Is it still OK ?
IF not. iMovie rendering process has harmed it. Re-import the photos and re-edit it.
Now - Don't use the "Share/Export to iDVD" function in iMovie.
    Just close iMovie.
Locate Your movie project icon (with a Star on it). (I use to store it on my DeskTop.)
Start iDVD and import the movie icon.
Now iDVD will do the rendering an so much better.
    This might work for You.

  • Problems sharing from iPhoto

I have been having lots of issues with iphoto lately, but one that I can at least easily explain relates to sharing photos.  I select 5 photos to share, choose to share by email and when the next box opens where I can choose what layout I would like to use and it shows the photos I have chosen....the photos are wrong.  Sometimes, it duplicates a photo, other times it selects photos that I did not choose.  I have closed out, re-opened, but no diference.  What is going wrong.
    Jocelyn

That was a test, and tells us that there is an issue within your main library that iPhoto's own tools can't resolve.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IDVD: Files exported from iMovie 11, one works, one "Unsupported File Type : Unknown format"

I used footage from the same camera (taken on the same weekend using the same settings) in several different iMovie "projects". All were shared from iMovie 11 as "File" using the quality setting "SD 480p".
In Quicktime Player, all ".mp4" files will play and they show the following info in its inspector:
    Format: H.264, 854 x 480
                  AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
    FPS: 29.97
One exported file will drag, drop, and burn in iDVD just fine. The other two files show the error "Unsupported File Type : Unknown format" as soon as I try and drag them into iDVD.
The only difference I can find is that the one file that works is about 803MB, while the files that don't work are 1.87GB and 3.98GB.
All files and the iDVD project are in the same folder on my startup volume. I've tried deleting com.apple.idvd but that didn't help. I've tried rebooting and starting the iDVD project from scratch but I get the same results.
    Mac OS 10.9.1
    iMovie 10.0.1
    iDVD 7.1.2
    Any ideas?

Hello Bengt and thank you again for the replies.
As I mentioned in my previous posts, I'm using iMovie 10.0.1 which has very limited quality adjustments. In every case I chose the smallest size, which iMovie 10.0.1 calls "SD 480p (854 x 480)". I used this same setting on all exports.
I still have iMovie HD (6.0.4) and iMovie '11 (9.0.9) on my iMac so I tried both of them. In both cases, they could import only the file that works in iDVD. Both older versions of iMovie choked on the longer movies shared from iMovie 10.0.1.
I have many many hours into the editing of these clips and I do not want to have to go back and redo everything in an older version of iMovie. Might I be better off going with a different DVD creation software? Or am I out of luck? Because I can't really change iMovie 10.0.1's export settings, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do to get it to export it as something that iDVD can use (really, I can't even tell why it's different and why iDVD doesn't like it).
The software "WonderShare DVD Creator" has no issue with any of the files I've exported from iMovie 10.0.1.

  • Problems sharing project from iMovie to iDVD

I understand that in order to share my project from iMovie to iDVD, I must go to Share > iDVD. I did this, then began adding a main menu and other details to my project in iDVD. Then I went to view the project. I discovered some errors I had made while editing the project in iMovie, so I quit iDVD and went back to iMovie to make the corrections.
After I fixed my project, I went back to Share > iDVD to discover that iDVD had been grayed out. I have already tried:
    1. Restarting the computer
    2. Duplicating the project
I have the latest versions of all the software (just bought my MacBook over the holidays). Help, please.

    Hi,
I am having the same problem with imovie - did you ever resolve this problem?
    Thanks

  • Sharing/Exporting files from iMovie?

Is there a way to share/export all the individual clips all at once w/ out iMovie making the file one long movie with all the clips?

iMovie offers no way to export a collection of clips in batch mode, exporting each to a separate file.
Note that dragging a clip from iMovie to the Desktop copies the entire source file to the Desktop, not just the clip. (If the clip is the entire file, of course, that is not a problem.)
FCP should be able to accept iMovie source files, the files created when importing from a camera. (I don't use FCP so I have no experience.) In fact, you should be able to import to iMovie from the camera, open the Media folder inside the iMovie project and import those files directly to FCP without exporting from iMovie.
To look inside the iMovie project, Control-click on the project in the Finder and choose "Show Package Contents".
This must be a Frequently Asked Question in the Final Cut Pro discussion forum. I suggest you check there.

  • Problem with QuickTime Movies From iMovie HD

I posted this earlier (on the second day of Leopard's Release), and did not get much feedback, and so thought I'd try again after people have had time to run Leopard.
I have some movies that I created using iMovie HD. I have the QuickTime version of the movie for use with Front Row.
On my G5 iMac running Leopard, the quality of the movies on Front Row is fine. However, in Leopard, the quality is lousy. The movies were made from still photos, using the Ken Burns effect. There are also transitions. On the web, on my iWeb site, the pictures take a while to come into focus. I sort of expect this on the web. However, I've found the same thing with the movie files using Front Row on Leopard. Again, this slowness in coming into focus does not appear when playing the movie on Front Row on Tiger on a G5 iMac.
Curious if anyone else has encountered problems/issues with QuickTime movies files from iMovie HD. And if so, what if any fixes are available.
    Thanks in advance.
    Russell

Hmmmm, so it works OK in Front Row but NOT in Quicktime player? Thats odd. Front Row works worse for me!
It sounds like it may be a rendering problem with Quicktime - It has to process the file in general (or parts of the file, for example, if you export 10 pics looped in Flash, it has to process the 10 image files each time it plays it through, resulting in the first 4 or 5 images to shoot out jerkily [read LAG] unlike the rest of the movie, which is smooth). If these images in your movie are large in file size or contain tons of wacky photoshopped effects, etc, that might be whats causing the problem.
I'd check everything is updated to the latest version, repair permissions on the disk in Disk Utility, and then see if anythings improved.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Problem in Internet Sharing from Ethernet to wifi

Whenever i go to Preferences > Sharing >  Click Internet Sharing > From Ethernet > to wifi and hit start. It actually creates my wifi access point but the problem is that i lose my internet connection from both, my mac from which the connection is being shared and my cellphone which is connected to it. I can not identify what is the problem, but i have tried it many times with or without the WPA2 personal key. Even after stopping the internet sharing, i have to plug out and then in my ethernet cable in order to connect to internet.
This problem was also on OS X mavericks with me last year, but it resolved automatically, i don't know how. But since when i have upgraded to yosemite, i can't make my hotspot connection working . Suggest any quick and effective way please.

    Same problem over here...
Additionally: if I unplug Gigabit-Ethernet-Adapter and plug it in again while Internet Sharing is still activated, the internet via ethernet works, but breaks down again about a minute later...
