Problem shutting down the Satellite U200-170

Hi,
i'm new at this so do forgive me if the question was asked already. I just bought a Satellite U200-170, it was the last in the store and i did not feel like waiting for 2 weeks to get the laptop so i bought the showroom model (which is in perfect state). I did format the laptop because the store made 2 partitions whichh i didn't want. So when i was formating the pc i inserted the recovery cd (part 1/2) and the pc started up with all the necessary drives and utillities.
Afterwards i did insert recovery cd (part 2/2) but nothing happend so i figured all of the utillities and drives was on the first cd. Now the problem is that i'm experiencing some problems when i want to shut down the laptop. The screen kinds of crashes when windows is shutting down so i have to manualy shut down the laptop by pushing the on-button. How to solve this problem.
I also like to know whats on the second recovery cds.

Hello
Recovery image is one file that contains more different components (OS, drivers, tools, utilities, some demos or anything else) and just if the whole image is preinstalled you will be able to use it. Usually it is saved on two CDs or one DVD (depending how big the file is).
While recovery image installation there must be shown the installations procedure (shown in % or on other way I dont know how it looks like on newer models) when the CD1 content is copied the message will shown that you must enter CD2 to continue installations procedure. When you put CD2 into drive press enter and installation will continue. When the installation is over you can start the notebook and use preinstalled operating system.
With short words: for 100% OS installation you must use both CDs and the whole image must be installed. With just 50% of image you can not even start Windows.
If you, after recovery procedure, can start setup process and later use Windows XP the installation was successfully. Your problem can be caused by something else. On this way it is not easy to say what. In my opinion you should contact your local dealer and I am pretty sure that he can help you and explain why this happen.

    I'm getting kernel panics each day as I shut down, the message of restarting by holding down the power button appears on the screen - it began about a month ago and. Do you have any ideas of how to solve the problem? I've copied the logs that I found for each kernel panic that still have the message logged. Please help if you can, I have read some of the other comments and perhaps it has something to do with my anti-virus software being on at start up. I have copied the log here. Any advice will be welcome.

    com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardACMData            4.2
    Two experiments you can try.
    1.  Boot in safe mode and see if you can shut down normally.  All thise additions won't be running in safe mode so this test would indicate it is one of them causing the problem.
    2. Uninstall all the intego VirusBarrier stuff.  That's my first guess and the troublemaker.

    Eustace, thank you so much for writing back.  I will try what you suggested!!
    thx for your reply - apparently when I went to the Apple store a long time ago, they restore maybe photos and itunes etc from my external hard drive (passport).  I guess at that time they reinstalled an earlier operating system than my macbook came with and that somehow corrupted FileVault.  apparently there was no sparse bundle (whatever that is) for my old admin account and they said that ever since the install of the older OS that it was actually NEVER backing up anything in my admin account.
    Then, I bought Time Capsule and starting backing up to that instead.  I started having problems with it being slow etc and then StartUp Disk full errors and didn't know what to do, so I "Restored" from Time Capsule and that's when I lost everything in my Admin account and was locked out when I tried to log in - it said File Vault error ..."
    anyway - that's THAT sad story.  I was told to create a new admin account and I've basically been trying to start over - even though I have a partial save of my computer in Crash Plan and I DO see a sparse bundle listed in there, but I just don't know enough about computers to know if it's something I can get back or if I am just totally doomed.
    I'm afraid to reinstall anything because if there is even a remote shot that the other files are still floating around in my computer, I feel like that chance will be shot forever.  I need to hire McGee from NCIS, I just KNOW he could get those files back for me!!!

  • When I put my macair to sleep overnight and want to put it back on in the morning, it says that it had a problem shutting down and all my work is lost. Is that normal?

    In the evening when I put my mac air to sleep and turn it on in the morning it says it had a problem shutting down and had to restart again, so all my work is gone, and this is happening quite often now and I bought it in January. So shouldn't I use the sleep mode over night is that too long and causes it to crash? Or should I take it to a apple store for them to check it out?

    Overnight isn't too long for sleep mode. I do it all of the time with no problem. However, I save everything first so I would not have the "all my work is gone" issue even if there was a problem. I would have it checked out.

  • I have recently upgraded my mac and ipad to IOS7 and find that Safari will not load onto my iPad. It just shuts down the app. Any ideas? I have been onto Mac who took me through a very long iPad robot, but the problem is still the same! Help appreciated

    I have recently upgraded my mac and ipad to IOS7 and find that Safari will not load onto my iPad. It just shuts down the app. Any ideas? I have been onto Mac who took me through a very long iPad robot, but the problem is still the same! Help appreciated

    Do you mean that you did a soft-reset ?
    Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History
    If that doesn't fix it then try closing Safari via the iPad's multitaskingbar and see if it works when you re-open it :double-click the home button to open the taskbar and then swipe or drag the Safari app's 'screen' up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
    After trying the above you could also do a soft-reset (even if this is what you've already done it might be worth trying after clearing Safari's cache and closing the app via the taskbar) : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Problems shutting down laptop

    Good morning!!
    I have a Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200 and sometimes I have problems shutting down it. I have seen in some forums that it can be because I have open apps. After checking it out I see that all of them are closed and I cannot close the laptop yet... Do you have any idea why it can happen and how to solve it?
    Thanks!!!!!

    Have you upgraded to Windows 8.1? If so, did you follow these instructions?
       How to Update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1
    What happens when you disable fast startup?
       Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does > Change settings that are currently unavailable (near the top)
    Under Shutdown settings at the bottom, clear the check box for Turn on fast startup (recommended), and click the Save changes button.

  • Safari will lock up on my MacBook Pro. Force quit doesn't help. When I try to restart the computer, I get an error saying Safari cancelled the restart. I have to press the power button to shut down the computer.

    While I'm using safari,  it will freeze up. When I force quit safari and reopen it, I find that I'm back to where I was when I did the force quit and safari remains locked up. When I try to restart the computer, I get a pop up that says that safari cancelled my restart. I then press the power button to shut down the computer. When I reboot the computer and open safari, I see all the tabs and windows that were opened when this issue began, only this time safari isn't frozen. This problem started yesterday.
    Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is there a fix for this problem?

    Try Resetting Safari: Open Safari. Cick on the name Safari in the menu bar. In the drop down menu click Reset Safari.

  • Thread problems - shutting down.

    Okay, I've got my multi-threaded server program working just fine and all is well...until I shut down the server.
    By some quirky twist of fate, java chat servers seem to be a popular education assignment in the last two weeks, which will probably put some people off answering this simply because of all the clueless posts on the subject recently. :)
    Anyway, a little background on how I'm doing things first.
    At the top there is the Server object, which is implementing Runnable. This instances the ClientManager, creates the ServerSocket and then kicks off its own thread and loops in the run() method waiting for connections while a boolean is true. If it gets a connection it calls the ClientManager addConnection() method and passes it the received client socket.
    The ClientManager holds a List of ClientConnections and provides methods to add and remove ClientConnections. The ClientManager also runs in its own thread by implementing the Runnable interface and uses its run() method to loop through checking for incoming messages from each client.
    A ClientConnection object also runs in its own thread via the Runnable interface. This checks for incoming messages from the client and stores the String ready to be received by the ClientManager and broadcast to all ClientConnections.
    So, you've got the Server running in its own thread, the ClientManager running in its own thread and the ClientManager maintaining a List of ClientConnections, each running in its own thread.
    I'm starting my threads like this:-
    // Constructor.
    Public SomeObject() {
        start();
    // Runnable method.
    Public void start() {
        // threadObject is private class variable.
        bThreadActive = true;
        this.threadObject = new Thread(this);
        threadObject.setDaemon(true);
        threadObject.start();
    }I'm running my threadded object like this: -
    Public void run() {
        do {
            // Do work here.
        } while(bThreadActive);
        // Activates the shutdown method for this object.
        shutdownObject();
    }I'm shutting down my threads like this: -
    Public void shutdown() {
        this.bThreadActive = false;
    // The main shutdown code.
    Public void shutdownObject() {
        // Kill thread object.
        this.threadObject = null;
        // Do other stuff.
    }Which I think should work fine. Anything wrong with the above?
    I'm getting problems with NullPointerExceptions with the Server object at the point where it tries to shutdown the ClientManager. This works by shutting down all ClientConnections in the List first and then emptying the List before killing its own thread. Also, the Server object seems to shutdown before the ClientManager. And other such weirdness.
    I know you're all going to ask for specific code and a stacktrace, which I'll provide....I just want to check that my method for using threads as above is correct first, so I can rule that out - mostly because I suspect I'm missing some vital piece of knowledge on using threads....things are not working as I expect.
    Anyway, a quick answer on the above and then I'll start posting more specific info.
    Thanks all :)

    Ooops....my mistake. I was calling shutdown() twice. Once from the GUI code and automatically from after the loop in the run() method. Funny how the stacktrace doesn't drill down any further than the method that makes this call.
    Okay, its almost all working perfectly, except for this part....
        //  Start accepting client connections from the server service.
        public void run() {
             while(bThreadActive) {
                 if (sockServer != null) {
                     if (!sockServer.isClosed()) {
                         try {
                             sockClient = sockServer.accept();
                             if (sockClient != null) {
                                 this.clientManager.addClientConnection(sockClient);
                                 this.pOutput.printOutput("Connection accepted from: " + sockClient.getInetAddress().getHostAddress());
                         } catch (IOException ioe) {
                             if (bThreadActive) {
                                 this.pOutput.printOutput("ERROR: Could not accept incoming client connection");
                         } catch (NullPointerException npe) {
                             // Leave this for now.
             shutdown();
        // Shutdown the server service and disconnect all client connections.
        public void shutdown() {
            try {
                clientManager.stopThread();
                sockServer.close();
                threadServer = null;
            } catch (NullPointerException npe) {
                npe.printStackTrace();
            } catch (IOException ioe) {
                pOutput.printOutput("ERROR: Could not cleanly shutdown the server socket");
            pOutput.printOutput("Server service shut down successfully");
        // Stop the server thread (automatically shuts down).
        public synchronized void stopThread() {
            bThreadActive = false;
        }When I call the above like this from the GUI object...
        // Stop the server.
        private void stopServer() {
             try {
                  server.stopThread();
                  setGUIMode(MODE_DISCONNECTED);
             } catch (NullPointerException npe) {
                  npe.printStackTrace();
        }...the string "Server service shut down successfully" from the completion of the shutdown() method never appears, so it looks as though its not executing.
    But if I do this instead in the stopServer() method and remove the shutdown() call in the run() method, it works......but I get two (sometimes three) outputs of "Server service shut down successfully" which makes me think its being run twice somehow.....once before the ClientManager has been shutdown and once after or twice after.
    Server service shut down successfully
    Shutting down Client Manager...
    All client connections disconnected
    Client Manager successfully shutdown
    Server service shut down successfully
    Server service shut down successfully
    Any ideas?

  • My new MacBook Air keeps shutting down the screen while I use it

    My new MacBook Air keeps shutting down the screen while I use it and has to be rebooted. I took it in to the Genius desk at my local store, but they couldn't find anything wrong and said that they have never seen this problem before.
    I Spoke to the IT support guy at work. He has the same problem with his new MacBook, but not with his older one. He suggested that it is a software issue with all new MacBooks and is connected to the timing of it going into sleep mode. Does anybody have a solution? Apple doesn't seem to have one.

    Try a SMC reset.

  • Node Manager not shutting down the Managed Servers

    I have WebLogic Server 8.1 SP4 installed on around 9 separate boxes - 3 servers form one WLS domain of one admin + two managed servers. The managed servers are started using Node Manager from the admin console.
    On one domain start/shutdown using Admin Console works just fine however the other two domains the managed servers startup fine but shutdown fails - or takes over 15 minutes. I see the following error in the Node Manager logs
    NMMessage: Command read failed 'Connection reset' on socket/ <ip_address>
    Any ideas on what I can do to fix this ? The servers which will not shutdown have EJB's installed on them. Dont think this could be related as shutting down the application results in the same problem as listed above.
    Thanks,
    Kevin.
