Problem-Starting InDesign Server for use with CORBA / Java and IOR file not generated

I'm trying to start Indesign Server cs3 for use with Corba, as per the document the server should generate the start-up message like this..
InDesignServer -iorfile c:\ior.txt -pluginpath Server\Corba
[server] Writing IOR to ... and it should generate the IOR file
but I'm getting the usual start-up message and the IOR file is not generated, I hope IOR file is required for Java component interaction with IDS, kindly help me to solve this.
Thanks in advance.

[From Susan Doan, who is having trouble posting to the forum today}:
It looks like the example command line in the "Intro to InDesign Server" pdf is using curly quotes instead of straight quotes. If you copy the command from the pdf and paste it in your command shell, it won't work because of the curly quotes.
You can run the command without the quotes as Rich has said, but, as will all command lines, if your path contains a space, you will need to put quotes (straight ones!) around the path.
Thanks,
Ole

  • Which iMac for use with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom

Any opinions on which iMac is best for use with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom. Not sure if the 2.7 i5 with 512 graphics card is Plenty of power or if upgrading to the 3.1 i5 or 3.4 i7 is a wiser choice given the price differences. Appreciate the help

So I was reading over your post, and even though this is older and has to do with CS5, I have some information for CS6 that will be relevant to your question now that it is time to upgade the software. In general Photoshop has always been more about RAM than Processing power, though that is important too. Until CS5 it could never quite take advantage of what multi-core processors really had to offer, and even the graphics card didn't really effect much of it outside of certain features and the 3D optio
Now that is no longer true and Adobe can effeciently use all aspects of the computer to give you much better performance.
So much so that I was able to buy a brand New ASUS with the following specs:
    Dual Core 2.2GHz Processors
8GB of RAM (4GB original to the machine)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit OS
    320GB HDD w/ 5400RPM
This machine not only runs photoshop CS6 and Launches in less than 5 Seconds... it can run Premier and After Effects as well, and this Laptop cost me less than $400 (on sale at Best Buy 2 Weeks Ago. You don't have to buy something this cheap, but isn't it great that you can and still run Master Collection effectively?
You can read my details on how to buy a Photoshop CS6 Laptop, what specs you need, comparison between Mac and PC and watch the video of my Photoshop Speed Test by reading this article:

  • Partitioning an External 320gb drive for use with Time Machine and...

I want to be able to use my Western Digital 320GB external drive for use with Time Machine and to use as extra storage space on both my Mac and when I boot into Windows Vista.
    Is this possible?
I was playing around in Disk Utility and would I partition the part I want to use for Time Machine with the Mac OS Journaled, and whatever I want as space for windows, use a MS - DOS format?
    Has anyone done this before?
    Cheers-

Unless you are using 64 bit version of MSWindows (64 bit XP/Vista), it won't be able to handle a disk with GUID partition table (GPT). Disks with Apple Partition Map (APM) or GUID partition table are the only ones that Time Machine will work with (not MBR disks). Note also that the MBR/APM/GPT are at the DISK level and not the partition level, so don't mix the format with partitioning scheme. Time Machine disks are meant to live in the Mac universe (for now, anyway) and sharing with the MSWindows 32-bit universe is not possible.

THANK YOU for any help you can provide!

These are errors/warning because of incorrect connection pool settings.Either the database parameters were not configured correctly or there were some issues with the configuration itself.
Your server did start up correctly though.

  • Problem starting websphere server 6.0 with Eclipse.

    Hi Frndz,
I'm trying to start WAS6 server from Eclipse IDE view but I get the exception DescriptorParseException with the XML file com/ibm/ws/management/descriptor/xml/JVM.xml. On the other hand, I can start without any problem my WAS6 server outside Eclipse.
I would really appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks in advance.

  • I've started updating Flare for use with Flex/Spark

    Hi,
Flare is a pretty cool actionscript library which allows you to make some pretty great interactive visualisations (or visualizations if you're American) of data. A couple of problems with it though:
It has pretty awful documentation. There's a tutorial that gets too in depth, too quickly and doesn't outline how to get up and running quickly at all, or what form of data is expected. &
It doesn't play all that well with the Spark architecture, making you 'hand draw' things on the nodes of a chart rather than just applying skins.
I'm trying to rectify this by:
Writing a quick start guide to getting up and running with Flare quickly. &
Starting to recode the library to be Flex friendly.
The quickstart guide should get anyone up and running with Flare using the downloadable version there is from them.
The second post has a partially recoded version of Flare to be friendly with Flex. I've worked on it more since then, and will continue to post updates as I get more and more working and cleaned up.
I hope this will be helpful, as Flare has some pretty cool things going for it (and some baffling choices also!).

Yes,you will lose all the music files when updating the firmware. What firmware is on the device now? You will need to do the update on XP SP2 with Windows Media Player 0 & no WMP components.

Hello,I've just bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. It is recognising my player but is requesting I download drivers and the installation cd does not work. I have been searching for a solution to this and believe there is a way of updating my player using a computer with XP.Could someone please tell me how to do this? Will I lose all stored music if I do update the firmware?
    Thank you!

  • Do I need the Middle Eastern edition of InDesign CS6 for use with Hebrew?

    Hi, all.
Yesterday I upgraded from InDesign CS5.5 to CS6 thinking that I would get full Hebrew support. I've not even installed it yet, but as I dug around on the forums and other internet sights, it seems that the regular CS6 version (USA) has "hobbled" Hebrew support, but if you want the real thing, you need to get a Middle Eastern edition. Is that right? For example, http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/arabic-hebrew.html says this under the heading "Default Fonts":
When you install a Middle Eastern or North African version, the default typing font is set to the installation-specific language, by default. For example, if you have installed the English/Arabic-enabled version, the default typing font is set to Adobe Arabic. Similarly, if you have installed the English/Hebrew-enabled version, the default typing font is set to Adobe Hebrew (or Myriad Hebrew in Photoshop).
That makes me think that there is a ME edition of ID CS6. I think I need full Hebrew support. I'll be laying out a book with Hebrew and English and another language (European) interspersed. I don't want to have to work with a version that doesn't have what it needs for Hebrew + European languages.
And while we're at it, under what circumstances does one need the In Tools plug-in for Hebrew if CS6 is what is being used? Or is there even a CS6 version of plug-in for ID CS6?
    Thanks!

@Peter Spier: I think it's called MENA (Middle East / North Africa).
@Everyone: It may well be that Adobe is not offering the MENA version of CS6 anymore. I got this note from Cavalier Technical Services after I specifically requested a quote for ID CS6 Middle East version (link in earlier post): "There is no longer any CS6.   They only access to Indesign – including languages – is through the creative cloud. However, you do not need to purchase (actually subscribe for the year) the entire package. We can offer you only Indesign for Cloud for $269.00 per year currently."
I plan to give up on InDesign CS6 ME (or "MENA"), and just try to use www.in-tools.com's plug-in and see how it goes. I guess no one reading this has much experience with In Tool's "World Tools" plug-in, right? You're probably mostly already on Creative Cloud and it's irrelevant for you. David Blatner commented on it here (Jan. 2013): http://indesignsecrets.com/typesetting-hebrew-and-other-languages-in-english-indesign.php/ comment-page-1. I guess that back before that (i.e., 2007!), Peter Kahrel wrote a script for just reversing the order  of letters (David Blatner referred to it here: http://indesignsecrets.com/free-script-for-hebrew-or-arabic-text-in-regular-version-of-ind esign.php/comment-page-1).
I'm not sure I'll be coming back to this thread any more, unless there are comments on In Tools' plug-in.
Thanks, everyone, for your kind replies and encouragement!

  • Format external HD for use with Mac Network and PC

System config: Home network: Mac Pro & MacBook Pro connected via AirPort Extreme. Both run OS X 10.5.6. The Mac Pro also runs Windows XP Pro. Work computer: Dell, Latitude D830 running Windows XP Pro.
Situation: I have a Western Digital WDMT5000TN 500GB Portable HD, (FireWire 800 & USB). The WDMT5000TN came formatted Mac OS Extended, which, as I suspected, could neither be read nor written to in XP. I reformatted the drive NTFS in XP Pro. This worked well with XP but was read only in OS X.
Ideally, I would like to format the drive so that it is both read/write capable with both OS X & XP Pro and handle file transfers in excess of 100 MB. If this is not possible my second choice would be to have the drive read/write OS X & read only XP, given that I upload mostly in the Apple domain & would be able to perform backups of it’s contents using Time Machine with OS X.
If anyone has a formatting recommendation or related information that may help I would appreciate your insight. Thank you.

    Two basic options:
    1. Format the drive FAT32 (MS-DOS) which is read/write on both Windows and OS X.
    2. Leave the drive formatted NTFS and install software on OS X to enable read/write access. The options are: a.) Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X - 6.5.1; b.) MacFuse and NTFS-3G 2009.2.1u1; and, c.) NTFS for Mac 1.0.

  • External hard disk for use with quicksilver 2002 and intel imac 24"

i am wanting to purchase an external hard disk to be used with both a g4 and an intel imac 24".
i am considering a seagate barracuda 500gb or 750gb and purchasing an external case separately.
    interfaces - usb2, firewire 400 and 800.
Do I need a case with the "oxford chipset" to have it work.
Are all seagates compatible these days.
I was looking at a ultra ata100 hard disk. Will this disk connect automatically to the enclosure or will additional cables be required
Is the Ice Cube Generation II Ide enclosure ok to use.
    Appreciate any help given
    dual 1 gig G4, Intel 24" Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi-
The Ice Cube uses an Oxford chipset, (part of the external housings onboard controller) so it should be fine. The Oxford chipset has been shown to give the best compatibility and performance, thus being an desirable feature.

Using a Seagate Ultra ATA 100 drive should give you good, quiet, reliable service. There are no problems with the Seagate ATA drives.
Using the drive and housing with firewire will give you the best results, and firewire will allow you to use a bootable backup on the external drive, should the need be.
The housing comes with all the necessary cables to connect and use your external drive.
Insert the hard drive into the housing, connect the power and the firewire, format the hard drive, and you are ready to go..........

  • Where to locate HTTP Server for use with Oracle Express 10g and Apex?

    Hello,
Im a newbie and I downloaded oracle express 10g and Apex 3.2.1. The Apex install is referencing "choosing a HTTP Server" specifically "Oracle HTTP Server and mod_plsql and the embedded PL/SQL Gateway". My question is do the HTTP server or PL SQL embedded Gateway come with the 10g install or do I need to download them seperately? If so where can I locate them?
    Thank you!

If using Oracle XE, then which APEX install scenario would I used if I downloaded both the XE and apex from the OTN?Oracle XE includes APEX 2.1 and uses the PL/SQL Gateway for HTTP service work. No separate HTTP Server is required.
If, after you install XE, you want to upgrade to APEX 3.x, you would select the PL/SQL Gateway for the upgrade.
If the PL/SQL Gateway (EPG) does not provide the full set of services you need, you could put a regular Apache in front and redirect to APEX for those specific issues.
If that is to complicated, then you could license Oracle Application Server Standard Edition 1 (for a fee) to get an Oracle HTTP Server and it's mod_plsql to replace the internal EPG.

  • Looking for a starter keyboard recommendation for use with Garageband

I've got a new iMac running Lion.  I'm looking for a keyboard that will work with Garageband that I can buy for as little as possible but will work and be decent.  Looking at the Apple Store, I see three that could fit in my price range, the M-Audio Keystation Mini 32, the M-Audio Key Studio 49 USB-Midi, and the Akai Professional LPK25 Laptop. I'd appreciate any feedback about these.

    Good, good, and good!
M-Audio in particular makes great "bang for the buck" controllers.
If you spend more, you get a better physical keyboard, which can be more satisfying to play. But for budget models, hard to beat those, particularly the m-audio.
good site to check gear out:

  • Help configuring OS X Server for use with SuperDuper!

Hi, I am trying to configure my Mac Mini running Mavericks and OS X Server and my MBP so that I can make SuperDuper! backups from the internal drive in the MBP to an external drive connected to the Mac Mini. I would like to be able to make a connection wirelessly over the LAN so that I can configure automatic scheduled backups. Can anyone help me with this? I am inexperienced with Server and have not been able to get SuperDuper to locate the external drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can't do that. "SuperDuper" doesn't work over a network. "Carbon Copy Cloner" does.
