Problem starting xorg...
Hi there... i'm pretty new to the linux forum and i have some problems which i cannot resolve
When I type startx to start xorg this picture appears and my computer tottaly freezes...
I have no idea what's wrong, both mouse and keyboard aren't working... i tried to reinstall xorg and kde but nothing... Thanks

Starst again the same, and only tab button and space are working... when i press tab it gives me some note something " 1813 possibilites?(y or n) and when i press space it lists something

Cant start Xorg (or problem in starting) in my new FSC Lifebook E8410
Hello again
once again i am presenting you a weird problem
I have bought the new fujitsu siemens laptop: Lifebook E8410 with a Nvidia graphics card (128 MB) and an integrated webcam.
When i attmept to start xorg; it gives me one of the following errors:
*XIO error: NVIDIA driver not found. (although i already installed the driver using pacman -Sy nvidia)
*Xorg starts succesfully, however, it just stays a blank screen
*Xorg starts and closes in less than 5 seconds by itself/
i have used Hwdetect (with abd without the -xa option), xorgconf, and nvidia-xconfig
I have also tried to start nvidia-settings but it keeps trying to start something graphical and the following error appears:
**GTK eroor: unable to start GTK
i have tried two other disturbutions: OpenSUSE, and Knoppix. The graphics is perfect with both of them.i have also copied the xorg.conf file from knoppix which was running perfectly and pasted it, but still it is the same error 0_o
can someone please help me with this?
please tell me if you want any logs or files
i am used and in love with ArchLinux, please help me run it.
ps: i have full hardware details from openSUSE but i dont know where to upload it

anyways, there is an update now, i have edited xorg.conf and set the driver for my nvidia card to be "vesa".
ofcourse the graphics card does not work properly (nvidia-settings cant do anything here unless i am running xorg via the nvidia driver).
now here is the part that is driving me crazy: i am running xorg perfectly (with KDE or GNOME) when i am root. but i cannot do it when i am in my own user although i have added my user to the video group :S

Unable to start xorg after latest nvidia update

I have NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 card. I did update to version 346.47 of nvidia driver and figured out that after reboot SDDM dont start. I disabled login manager and tried to start xorg server manually but without success. I see that there is segmentation fault in log but don't understand where it comes from exectly.

In addition, in order to disable sddm I downloaded latest Arch linux installation CD (2015.02.01) but I was unable to start PC with this version. Loading stuck after first 3 lines, after "triggering udevevents".
I had old version 2014.08 and it worked ok.

AlexeyI just wanted to echo eugeneyche's comment. I ran the same steps mentioned by ElectricPrism but that didn't really fix them. I had to add nomodeset to my kernel parameters. I now want to know what's really going on. For the record, this was my backtrace:

Q1) when i start xorg with startx, i get the following errors even though xterm shows up:

Q2) another problem I have is Ctrl-Alt-backspace does not shutdown x, I have to switch to another console and switch back to Ctrl-C even though I have added a serverflags section with the dontzap option into my xorg.conf in accordance with the wiki, how do I solve this problem too?
PS in this case my .xinitrc has the line exec xterm
Q3) After I commented out exec xterm in my .xinitrc file and tried to start xmonad with the line $HOME/bin/xmonad, this happens in addition to the error in Q1:

when i followed the arch wiki and just used xmonad in the .xinitrc file, a bank screen is shown and these errors occurs:

The way xmonad works is that if you have your own configuration ~/.xmonad/xmonad.hs, then when you run it, xmonad automatically recompiles itself and puts the resulting binary into ~/.xmonad/xmonad-i386-linux. So what the default xmonad binary does is that
1) it checks whether your config ~/.xmonad/xmonad.hs has changed (if yes, it recompiles)
2) it checks whether ~/.xmonad/xmonad-i386-linux is a binary that can be run (if yes, it runs it)
3) runs xmonad with the default config
So I think what happens with you is the case 3).
Note that when xmonad runs with the default config, you won't see anything special (you need to run some programs, or check in the console whether the process actually runs. If it does run, then all is fine and you should ignore that error).

and the ~/.xmonad directory does not exist currently, I assume I would have to manually create it?

Linux crashes after about 5 minutes (when I start Xorg)

my linux-system hasn't been stable a lot during the last couple of weeks, ... or even since I used linux on my system. Only once, when I used a specific version of the nvidia-drivers as my system really stable. Mostly, it was stable enough to use. Maybe I'm wrong, but that is my impression at the moment. I have to say that my chipset (via kt133 I think) or the implementation of it, can have a problem which causes this instability.
Anyway, the last time, it was only the screenimage that stopped working. Sound, ... kept on going, so I supposed it was an xorg-problem ...?
However, since the last archlinux kernelupdate (and I also tried my own custom-kernels with 2.6.16.x as the base-kernel), linux crashes very quickly as soon as I start xorg and my internet-connection (but it happens also without my internet-connection up it seems). This time, also the music stops playing.
Now, I heard of cases where Xorg starts using 100% cpu, but I can't login with ssh or so, although there may be others possibilities.
I notice that when my screen, ... freezes the led of my harddisk is ona nd stays on.
I'm not sure about the following. I once enabled logging and got some output on a vt. I thought that ther system frooze (my harddisk light was on it seemed) and some moments later my system went on working. I'm not sure if this is the same as what I experience most of the time, since it doesn't seem to come out of it (or maybe I haev to wait longer ...). Anyway, I got:

- IDE controler failure
- Bad cables
- Bad harddisk
Out of these 3, the last one sounds the most reasonable with nowadays harddrives. And yes, your system will hang when all your important processes are hanging while trying to do disk I/O.
What windows does is switching back to PIO mode and never report anything, until you hit the nice BSOD telling you to replace the floppydisk in drive C... -
I decided to install Arch on my main machine. Pacman'd xorg and hwd (and ran hwd -s) but I'm having a problem starting x now. My xinitrc seems to be okay with an echo "exec startkde" > ~/.xinitrc thrown in for good measure.
The problem seems to be numerous font renderers? I'm getting errors for about 8-9 font renderers already configured somewhere else or something to that effect? Does anybody have any suggestions at all what to do with this?shinobi wrote:

The beauty of it, is that it automatically detects everything for you. It worked for me on another machine about 3 weeks ago, but now I'm having problems on my new machine.
In which case, perhaps you better try the old-fashioned method of xorgconfig I don't think it'll cause you many difficulties. You can always use hwd to give you the necessary info about your system, and use that for whatever xorgconfig asks you. -

Tabs only open in a new window. Ctl T opens a new window NOT a new tab help-last update this problem started 2 days ago. How do I set FF back to open tabs in 1 window?
There is no plus sign and going into optins and changing settings has not worked. I have uninstall FF and reinstall-keeping my personalization-and that was no help.
Right clicking on FF Icon to open a new tab, or going up to FF drop down tab and clicking on new tab both do not work.
Help everything opens a new window not a new tab. there seems to be no way to reset this or to chose a different optin. I just downloaded new tabs at end addon and it didn't do a thing.as a first troubleshooting step - does it work like normally when you open & run firefox in [[Safe Mode|safemode]] by pressing the shift key while you open firefox (all other instances have to be closed before)...

Purchased a new Apple TV and the remote double clicks each time I press the button. It worked fine during set up and for the first two days. I have since moved it and this problem started. Restarted,reset,unplugged,changed remotes, no change. Latest software update. This is really annoying. iPhone remote app works just fine. Any suggestions?
That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it... -

Im having major problems syncing my iphone 4 to itunes, this problem started after upgrading to ios 5. I have upgraded my itunes, turned sync by wifi on and off but still nothing. Everytime I try to sync my iphone it just says sync cancelled. Please help.....

I have been using an iPhone since I lost interest with Nokia phones. I fell in love with Apple's innovation, design and technology. However, I am beginning to lose interest wth the product as well.
I have an iPhone 5, my phone's battery can only last an hour and the phone is 7 month old. The problem started last week while I was in Argentina. I had a bad holiday due to this, as I could not make use of the technology because my phone was off most of the time and I had nowehere to charge except to go back to the hotel. I could not even share pictures on Instagram. Has anyone ever experienced such a problem? If so, why and how was the problem fixed? I am starting to engage in a debate that I have been trying to avoid with my friends. They say that Samsung is striving and I now tend to agree, and if the problem persists I will gladly join the Samsung family. They seem to make reliable phones. Sadly, I never experienced this problem with iPhone 3GS & iPhone 4S.

I've got an iphone 5 and it's working very well with me but I have to admit that its battery lasts (slower) than my Ipad 2.
Still i can help with some tips that may improve your iohone's battery by an hour in addition (hopefully):
- close all apps by multitasking....
- do NOT keep the brightness to the max
Believe me you're gonna regret changing your phone to a samsung

When I try to transfer songs to my ipod touch or my friends ipod nano, I get error 13019 "Ipod cannot be synced". Everything was working fine and transferring successfully and then this problem started to occur all of a sudden. My music is managed manually and always has. I looked online for a solution and they all involve resyncing the library and unchecking voice memos. Is there a way to resolve this issue without having to resync my music or reinstall itunes?
Have you powered off and then back on the router?
Have you done anything to the router recently like changed a setting?
Have you tried:
- Resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Resetting network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network SettingsTo me the error sounds like a network/router problem vice aan iPod problem. -
My wireless keyboard no longer connects with my iMac since changing the batteries. It now shows as not connected, not paired and not configured. A friend recently connected his iPad to the iMac and since then the problem started. Any ideas to resolve this?

I am having problems with my outlook 2011. While i am able to check and SEND email on all my other devices ( Ipad, iphone, Macbook), I am unablesend any email with my iMac ( i can recieve email) . This problem started suddenly and the error message i get is error 5.7.8. I have read the threads on line and went into settings, even created a new profile, nothing helps...Please advice..is this something to do with my keychain Access?
